So...whats for dinner?
Comments

Seaside- here here! For your kudos to Michelle! Very well said!!
Sherrill-I give you a standing ovation for dinner and a swim, I am a bit jealous!
Debbie- I am glad you had a great time celebrating, shots always lead to something funny, I am glad you all had fun. We can never have enough fun.
Dinner was good, kids ate it and liked it a lot, so did we, super easy and different.

Believe it or not, 30 years in corporate America, and ten years as a manager prepared me for this. I always felt my job was first, to develop my people; and two, to remove obstacles so that my team could be successful. The "Taurus" in me has come in real handy!!!
Michelle
-
Seaside- Years ago i drank way to many tequila shots and was sick for days now i cant stand even the smell of it. LOL!
Michelle- Oh wow i didnt realize you still had to do the taxol Hope you wont need the shot with this Tx! Glad you got the ins thing all worked out. I agree with everything Seaside said about you, you truely are an inspiration/
We are suppose to meet friends for dinner tomorrw, our friends, friends are coming and i was told i had to come meet them because im always the life of the party! I guess im kind of fun to hang out with LOL!, but im so tired and worn out LOL! This will be 3 times this week i have to keep reminding myself im no young chic anymore,
-
OK Debbie, get some sleep so you can be ready to party hearty!!! We just need more time to restore our juices, right?
-
Debbie I think we would be great party buddies, ha ha before this ca crap hit me! We did the japanese restaurant and they pour saki from a squirt bottle (like for ketchup) straight into your mouth and count as they pour to see how much you can drink, all the men did this, and my DH was trying to get me to do it, and I was like "no way". Maybe in my earlier days. We are taking the boat to the other end of the lake tomorrow ( about a 3 hr boat ride) and spend the night, they are having an italian festival. We do this every yr. and the food is awesome.
Michelle, about the neulasta shot....when i was due for mine, the onc dept was in another town, they alternate towns, and they wanted me to drive an hour to get it, and i just said give it to me to take home and I would have one of the nurses that i work with give it to me, and they said they could not do that due to the expense of the drug, so I always either got the drug early or a day late. The physician i work with even said she would take responsibility and give it to me, but they still said no.
-
dinner was icky last nite.. i am in my low appetite phase.. sauteed oriental veggies, noodles and grilled pork chops.. my fam loved it.
I am going to take a shower now.. I hope there is some shampoo. my 11 year old daughter goes thru prodects like crazy.. I am trying to tell her how she is killing the fish in the ocean but i don't think she buys it... she likes to shower in the parents shower because the boys mess up the kids' shower.
-
Apple - that's funny! It's been a long time since I had to worry about daughters stealing my shampoo...lol! Sorry to hear you are in the low appetite phase - hope that passes soon! It's been so hot out your way that it's a wonder anyone wants to eat anything other than ice cream!
Carberry - the "firedrills" around these Neulasta shots are ridiculous! I hope I don't need another one any time soon!
Michelle
-
carberry- The boat ride and Italian food festival sounds awesome! Have fun and eat a little extra for me!
apple- lol at your daughter using all the shampoo! When I was young it was the conditioner I used too much of and it drove my mother nuts. Not to mention that by the time I hit about 14 I liked to borrow her clothes. I would go in her closet and take a sweater/shirt whatever and she would go to get dressed and want to wear the same thing but couldn't find it in her closet. She would come to my room and see me wearing it and make me give it back. lol....I hadn't thought about that stuff in ages
-
carberry,
Cancer center wouldn't let me take neulasta shot at home. Soooo expensive. I was glad not to have the worry of an OOPS!
-
my daughter ... she has special soap for her face, 3 different kinds of shampoo (plus my green Pert which actually makes my hair look awesome).. her 10 conditioners for every type of style.. shaving utensils and foam, deodorants and brushes.. all slowly migrating to our shower.
My husband bless his heart had on VO 5 bottle of shampoo and no deodorant..
-
Carberry and Debbie, you both sound like so much fun to party with. I wish we could get all the ladies on this thread together and have a fun night out. That would be awesome.
Michelle, glad you got AC finished. I was also AC to Taxol. Then I had an allergy to the taxol and had to switch to Taxotere. I had the neulasta with the AC, but the onc said I didn't need that for the Taxol. However I needed it for the Taxotere. Finally done with all of it as of 10 days ago. That is funny about the Neulasta shots. I never went into the cancer center for them. They actually sent them overnight UPS to me in a refrigerated package to have for the day after. It came through my prescription plan. I don't think it had anything to do with my medical plan. The prescription deductible was $75 for it. I don't know if I would have had to pay anything if I would have gotten it at the cancer center. It might have cost me an extra $300 doing it this way. Only just wondered about that just now. Oh, well, I'm just glad that part is over. Good luck with the taxol Michelle. I think most people find it easier than AC.
Apple, I have a 13 y.o. daughter. She sounds a lot like your 11 y.o. She is crazy with the shampoo/conditioner/soap. She has to have liquid soap to use on her spongie in the shower. She has so many kinds that she picks from. I wish she would just use one up at a time, but she seems to have to vary it. She just said to me today all her soaps are summer scents and she needs to get fall/winter ones soon. I said I didn't know soaps were for either summer or winter, and she looked at me like I was from Mars. She wanted to try a new shampoo, and she was out so she asked me to buy her some Bed Head shampoo and conditioner when I was going to the store. I was at the store with my DH and we were getting ready to go in line and I said we have to get shampoo for Robyn, but I can't remember what kind she wanted. My DH said just look for the most expensive one. LOL He was right, and we found it.
Going to try making some eggplant parm for dinner tonight. Never made it before. Hope it comes out okay.
-
Trying to decide where to go for dinner tomorrow. August 6 is our anniversary and this year feels special since it is our 45th. The place I had wanted to go burned to the ground recently. At least I've got it narrowed down to two, one small and cosy and one with a great view. Probably won't decide until we are in the car, lol.
-
Kay- a tip for your eggplant parm- chill it for an hour in the fridge after you egg it and bread it, then fry it. For some reason it helps to keep the crumbs from falling off and makes it nice and crisp. One night my DH was running late getting home from work and called to let me know. I had already breaded the eggplant and put it in the fridge to wait for him- it came out better than it ever had and I now do it every time.
Good luck, hope it turns out great!
-
Carberry - I really wanted that Neulasta to be given at the infusion center because I have met my out of pocket max for medical treatment. But for prescriptions, there is no max, just as there is no limit for doctor co-pays. I don't know what it would have cost me if they had shipped it to me directly, but I doubt the answer is "nothing"!

Well, I have to laugh. The kiddos went to my in laws for their Friday visit while I got some book keeping done and I got a phone call from my oldest begging to have a sleep over. Absolutely! So DH and I have a quiet night in store for us. I called a couple we have been friends with forever (who have no kids) and they are going to come by and enjoy a fire outside with us tonight. Now to figure out food?
But since there are no kids I am going to have a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers while I think!
-
Carberry- OMG I think that sake game sounds hilarious and a lot of fun, warm sake get me everytime, i doubt i could do that though! LOL!
Michelle- I did sleep good and ready for another round! Ha!
Kay- Too bad we didnt all live closer that would be awesome, hey maybe we should plan a trip to vegas sometime.
Chabba- Happy Anniversary- Wouldnt it be nice to have small and cozy witha view, but i think the small and cozy sounds romantic, but then again depends on the view! what a decison, no matter what im sure you will have a great time!!
Funny stories about the shampoos and soaps, and clothes, I have to admi though,t I'm a soapaholic, There, i said it!! Im so bad about tha,t i buy a new soap and shampoo everytime we go to the store, my DH always gives me a hard time and i say, just get over it! LOL!
Laurie- Woot-Woot on the alone time tonight, Sounds like you more than deserve a glass of wine or 2 ha! Good tip on the eggplant parm. I find that helps with chx or anything im breading.
I get a lot of raves about my eggplant, its pretty good if i say so myself- I use both eggplant and zucchini bread them both ( peel the eggplant) but not the zuccini, layer them with mozz cheese and parm and a good homemade or store bought marinara and top with thinly sliced onions it is so delicious i might make that this week end! My Dad is coming here on the 11th im going to make those lasagna cupcakes for him, i will let you know how those turned out, has anyone tried them yet?
-
Joyce- So you are a golf widow too huh? Enjoy your evening!
Every one have a Nice weekend!
-
Well, aren't we a pair of old farts!!! Rick has some swollen glands and is having difficulty moving his neck. I made him go to the doctor and they did labs, sent him for x-rays, then sent him home with a steroid pack. No fever, no other symptoms, except that he didn't sleep at all last night. And I was awake about 4:30 and never went back to sleep. So here we are, both just waking up from naps!
I am feeling pretty good other than being a little tired, but I don't think he's going to want to do our usual Friday night out to dinner.
Laurie - enjoy your lovely evening!
Joyce - time to relax and have a great evening!
Carberry - I've been to a number of Japanese restaurants and never seen the sake game!
Debbie - I knew you'd be ready to go another round!
Oops, well in the time it's taken me to write this, he has fully awakened and wants to go eat prime rib...as long as I drive!!! But I'm not so sure he should go anywhere, not sure if he's contagious!
Like the weather, just wait a minute
Michelle
-
LOL Joyce!!! Well, he has gone back to the reclined position and the eyes are closed. In the meantime, we decided to have pizza delivered. He said he's hungry so hopefully he'll wake up enough in the next 30 minutes to eat when the pizza arrives. In the meantime, I turned on the Red Sox/Yankees game.
What a bizarre evening!!!
-
Thanks for the tip Laurie! The eggplant came out pretty well. My taste buds are still a little off from the last chemo I had a week and a half ago, so I wasn't really sure. But DH liked it a lot. He said we should have it again. I think I'll try it your way Debbie with the zucchini too. I got the recipe off the internet. It was almost like lasagna using eggplant instead of noodles. I used ricotta cheese mixed with an egg, parmasan cheese and parslay. I layered the sauce, the eggplant, the ricotta mixture, mosarella cheese and some parmasan cheese.
I bought the wonton wrappers, but haven't made the lasagna cupcakes yet. I am looking forward to trying them though.Enjoy your pizza Michelle. And go Red Sox! (when they're playing the Yankees at least)
Enjoy your evening Laurie, and everyone else too. Have a good weekend.

Anybody else lose their appetite on rads? No dinner for me tonight, just occasional random snacking (fruit, fig newtons). I don't want to cook OR eat a "real" meal.
-
Chabba,
I hope you have a wonderful time no matter which restaurant you choose!! 45 years is certainly a huge milestone!!!
I can sympathise a bit with your favorite restaurant no longer being there!! I just found out this week that my favorite Mexican place (one I have been going to since I was just 18 years old) has closed after 33 years! It was really very much a family run restaurant and I am very sad that they have closed! They had the best margaritas so now I will have to find a new place to get my 'fix'.....
-
Lena,
Yes.... I did reach a point during rads where I could have cared less if I ate or not... I was sore, itchy, exhausted and bitchy.... When it came down to a choice between eating and sleeping, the sleeping won! Quick, nutrient dense foods are your friend... Rest is too!!
Everyone is different but, I do know that my fatigue lingered a bit even after rads were over but, then got quickly better!
Sending you hugs!!!
-
mixing a bit of crushed capers into some yogurt.. makes a great sauce (compliment) to salmon.. as does a piquant cilantro / tomato/ salsa type salsa.
-
Joyce - this looks like a good idea for salmon:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Grilled-Salmon-I/detail.aspx
Soy sauce, brown sugar, stuff you are likely to have on hand...
DH doesn't touch salmon, so I don't cook it at home. He will eat swordfish, though. Might be time to pick up a nice piece.
Michelle
-
When I do salmon for 1 or 2 people - especially on a hot day if I don't want to grill - I like to microwave it in a little butter, chopped shallot and vermouth.
-
excellent idea chabba!
we're having homegrown tomatoes in BLTs (not my home unfortunately, the deer ate the tomato plants stems and all..).. also gazpacho.
-
Apple - I love BLT's! And I may have mentioned this before but your local Price Choppers carry Burger Smokehouse bacon. It's from California, MO, and the best bacon I ever had! I actually had 10 pounds of it shipped to us in NH!!!
Chabba - microwaving is a good idea. Maybe even making little waxed paper pouches and topping the salmon with butter, dill, lemon juice, whatever veggies, herbs, etc. and then nuking it for a couple of minutes.
I use waxed paper in my microwave all the time. It's a great way to cook one or two ears of corn. No muss no fuss!
Michelle
-
so what is waxed paper made of?
-
Thank you for the salmon ideas. I like the microwave idea---sounds good for dinner tonight.
