So...whats for dinner?
Comments

deborye - you go girl... will make you feel better to get it out. I love chick pot pies
carole: wish I was at yours for dinner - sounds delish.
Had a busy day today: rads at 8am then I went to a work conference from 9-1 and had to have a nap when I got home... ??? Dinner will be something out the freezer - unless DH wants to cook when he gets home from work... but I think it will be something from the freezer.

Deb,
You don't sound very happy. You must be just devastated to have had a friend die so suddenly. Maybe all those other lovely friends and you should rent a condo up in Maine, or Vermont before the snow season and have a girl's weekend. You could spend the weekend developing a new martini recipe, or exploring a hiking trail. I think you need a break! Leave 4 pot pies in the freezer, and the seats up and head out.

btw, I love chicken pot pie.

No serious dinner tonight....Had a nice lunch of spinach pie and salad with a colleague at mid day, so wasn't too hungry..... so I just enjoyed tastings from the various vegetables I roasted tonight...and roasted them just because they were in the refridge, not because I needed to eat.
I am thinking that with all the cooking I am doing, I will freeze a lot and get some mini meals to my single son in Southie, so when he is working really late, (frequently) he can have something good to eat at home, and not waste his money on take out. Previously, I have been so busy at work, I have provided him with no food for his freezer. I figure he is as worthy as my neighbors who currently benefit from my cooking frenzy since I have been at home, and use cooking as an outlet for my creativity.
That said, Susan, you and Apple are so above cooking level!!! It is interesting to read your recipes and "ingredients". Such reading stretches me a bit, which is a good thing!
Tazzy...Hope DH decided to cook for you! -
Deb,I agree with Susan...You need a break with the girlfriends!
-
Lacey,
The good news is.... cooking and eating aren't a contest! Just cooking at home puts you ahead of about 84% of this country. [Yea, I pulled that % out of my *ss.] So, preparing meals for others. Last year, I made lots of food for my parents. I bought some glass containers with snap-on lids; a huge box of them, at Costco. Everytime I cooked something that could be reheated, I made extra, threw it into one of these containers, and then froze. I delivered the containers with ziplock bags of the extras, such as beans and rice. I made cooking instructions to attach to the containers.
I had to get my food to northern NH. Southie is close by in comparison!

Swiss cheese on raisen bread toast. Just got home. My daughter and I took the night shift with my MIL so my DH and subs could get some rest. Now all the sibs are there, and other family will be arriving, so we came home today. Will go back up if needed on Sunday night, but otherwise way too many people for her. She is comfortable, and just said kiss me about 50 times to each person in rotation. At least we know she is in a happy place. Of course we have one sibling who is not quite understanding that MIL CAN'T eat OR drink without choking, and keeps trying to give her glasses of water. Everyone, and I mean everyone, from the aides, to the nurse, to the hospice doctor and all the siblings, tried explaining that it was not doing her mom any good. And mom wasn't even trying to ask for anything either, and she just didn't get it. Always got to be one. Thank the lord, only one has power of attorney, and it isn't her. MIL mostly sleeps. I pray she goes easily and soon, I hate to see her like this. I am going to enjoy sleeping in my own bed for now, and will be ready to head up there again when the time comes.
Michelle, Deborey, lumps, this is a rough time for us all. Please take care of yourselves too.
Much love to all. -
Susan, yes I am happy that DS2 lives relatively close by....and I recently got a pass to Costco, (which I gave up my membership to a few years ago), so maybe I should use it to get those glass containers for my food dispursement. Thanks for the idea!
Moon, enjoy your bed!! -
Well the fridge is almost cleaned out...cooked the last of the chicken breasts last night with apple butter bbq sauce, and had them with roasted butternut squash. Had steamed salmon for lunch yesterday over a romaine salad. We're eating like kings these last few days...lol!
I guess I get dinner out tonight! I have one skirt steak left and some mahi mahi...any ideas for cooking them?
Another beautiful day here in the mountains...calm before the storm I guess because it's supposed to turn cold over the weekend! Time to leave...now if we can just wait out that storm that's coming up the east coast. It will be past us by Tuesday.
Most of my packing is done and now I just have to take care of planting the mums in the yard and bring the porch furniture in, and I can relax for a day or two.
-
DH brought home a Chinese Dinner last night - yippee!
Hope all are safe from Sandy.
-
Apple - I love scotch broth and used to make it fairly often - but barley doesn't work too well for me anymore, so now I make either lamb stew or lamb curry - I'm a big fan of the curry and hubby of the stew.
Tonight I'm making the stew.

So, have I mentioned that Obama is speaking at noon at the local junior high tomorrow? It's located one block from where my mom's two sisters live. We don't yet know how we'll be able to get to them to pick them up for the funeral! I emailed three offices of the Obama campaign headquarters yesterday, after trying to call and getting no answer. Someone has assured me that they will work something out - we just won't know what it is until about 9 p.m. tonight!!! I need more complications, right! Meanwhile, I am getting ready to make beef stew for a dozen or so. I guess I'd better get moving!
-
Michelle- How are you doing? I know it will be a tough week for you with the service and everything coming up you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending love and hugs to you!
Joyce- Hope you stay safe from the storms in your path. Looks like a monster storm coming everyones way on the East coast. Been watching the news and it looks like it going to be a bad one. Hope you all are safe!
Dh went on Medical leave a couple of days ago he is having trouble concentrating and focusing at work, he also fell a couple of times at work. He can not drive right now either, which I have been arguing with him about that for the last couple of weeks but he wouldn't listen now he agrees. Hate though he is off work, they can't fire him while he's out but worried he won't have a job to come back too. And he is already driving me nuts! Maybe Deb and I could go on a trip some where far away LOL!
Moon-Sorry about your your MIL!
-
Michelle- Just saw your last Post. Oh no that is the last thing you need right now!! Hope it all works out and with no complications!! (((hugs)))
-
It will all work out - it must...
Debbie - I'm doing OK, just really tired but then, who wouldn't be after this past week? Sorry to hear Chuck is having such struggles. I hope you are taking care of yourself in the middle of all this...hugs to both of you!
-
Michelle, how unlikely is it that the Secret Service would figure into your family's funeral arrangements? Incredible!
Debbie, I hope your DH gets better and that his job is there when he's able to return to work.
Deborye, how are you holding up?
Laurie, I'm hoping that your health has improved. You seem to handle your busy life well, but there is probably some stress in all the multi-tasking. And stress is not good for us.
Moonflower, thinking of you and your family at this sad time.
Friday is one of my golf days but everybody was out of town or unavailable to play today. SO I went out and bought some pansies and gerbera daisies to plant in the pots on my patio. It was so humid outside that I was dripping with perspiration. This weekend is supposed to be much cooler.
Dinner will be leftovers: pork loin and red beans and rice. Plus a nice tossed salad with avocado and Greek olives.
-
Michelle,
I wonder if the Nashua police would help? Generally, they will provide a police escort for funerals. Might be worth a call. Unfortunate timing to say the least.

Oh dear, Michelle. Good luck with avoiding the chaos and blockades. Maybe the good news is that Obama will probably be there all of ten minutes with the major blitz he is on, covering so many cities. Just too bad that you have this complication to deal with.....
Debbie, (((HUGS))) to you and Chuck, and hoping for the best, first with his health and then with his work position. I know this must be such a stress for you.
DH and I just had carrot ginger soup and leftover veggie chili for dinner.....early for us. We are headed out to see Argo...... -
Michelle, I guess nothing is easy..sigh...
Debbie....If your DH hates being sick even half as much as I do...He's going nuts...and taking everyone else too! I hope they can quickly get to the bottom of it.
Moonflwr....thinking of you. I remember both my dad's and Mickey's travels down that road.... Hugs to everyone there.
Everyone that needs to, stay safe in the storm. I'm hoping the storm is a "no event". I'd rather not get called up for storm duty.
Dinner tonight....nothing.... I took the day off to watch Chrissy (DD) swim in the district qualification swim meet....She qualified, so she'll be swimming in the finals tomorrow. Chrissy was starved, so after the meet, the three of us went to lunch and stuffed ourselves.
Eric -
Debbie and Moon, so sorry for your family troubles. Too much stress there. Michelle, I truly hope this works out for you, what a development.
Dinner tonight is potato leek soup and more bread sticks. -
Eric, tell Chrissy we wish her luck.
Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. My MIL is actually doing a bit better right now, but will remain in hospice. I think she is waiting for the weekend so people can visit. I am home now because with so many of the siblings and their families visiting, there are a lot of people for her. I will probably go back on Sunday afternoon with my daughter as people go home to do night shift and the sibs need a good nites sleep. All depending on what happens. So kind of a holding pattern.
Will eat leftovers if I can find good ones, otherwise guess I will be cleaning out the fridge! LOL. Much love to all . -
-
I thought this picture was funny-I just don't get why the lady has such big boobs? Maybe its me....
Debbie- Hope your Dh is ok- sounds worrisome:( Hope you are feeling ok too and your Dad.
Michelle- I can't believe you have to deal with the stress of getting in and out of the funeral in addition to just putting your mother to rest. I hope things go smoothly tomorrow.
Carol- Thanks for thinking of me. I am still battling the whole sinus crappy feeling thing- but I just keep plugging along and trying to find my own way. Allergy meds have helped the past few days I hoping that will solve the problem.
Tonight was tacos. I am hoping this storm is a bunch of hype. I grocery shopped today so we are all stocked up for the next week or so. Lots of good meats on sale.
Hope everyone is well.
Eric- Sounds like you had a great day!
-
Thats hilarious Laurie! lol
-
HUGS Debbie.
If I go anywhere it will be myself at a B & B like the Sugar Hill Inn in NH or On Golden Pond on Squam Lake in NH. He would not go to anyplace like that. I wish my DD lived closer, she would go with me in a heart beat.
-
-
Stay safe everyone in Sandy's path.
Laurie... that was priceless and so true.
Michelle: As Eric said.. is nothing easy?
Moonflwr/Debbie: (((hugs)))
And hugs to all xxx
Dinner, Mexican Rice & Chicken.
-
She has big boobs because she went to a male plastic surgeon. Sharon's plastics guy still, I think, feels she is making a mistake because she didn't have the tissue expanders inflated well! past the point of grotesquely large.
-
Eric- lol! I will add that comic does NOT apply to you! Funny I had a male PS and he was the opposite and wanted to be conservative on size. Although he was also obsessed with natural droop
I explained if I was going through all of this they could at least not look like they were 100% natural after having 2 kids, some perk would be nice!
-
My mind is perky.
-
but - what to have tonite? I have to be gone between 3 and 5.45 - normally a time in which i would cook. egads, sometimes i hate trying to come up with something. maybe baked fish with fettucine alfredo.
