So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
I'm now in the process of using up everything in our freezer for meals so that I don't have to drag it back to Florida from NC when we leave at the end of the month. I hesitate to leave things in the freezer for fear there will be a power outage during an ice storm.
Last night we had a pork loin with sweet potato and broccoli, and a salad. Pretty simple but good. I used some apple butter bbq sauce on the pork loin and it was delicious. Our little town here is famous for apples so when they are in season, we get all kinds of creative things made from them.
Tonight I think I'll make stuffed peppers or a meat loaf...haven't decided yet.
-
Kaara, the apple butter bbq sauce sounds really good, especially with pork.
Tonights dinner is chicken leek pie with the remains of a rotisserie chicken. -
Hi everyone! So many post I can't keep up. Really sick with something don't know if I have pnemonia or not but feels like it, just wanted to pop in and say hi won't stay I don't want you to catch it!
. ha!
Eric- Glad Sharon is feeling better these days. Youve been a great DH to her!
Wish I had some chicken noodle soup!
-
Debbie- I wish I could bring you some soup
Hope you get some rest and get to a Dr to get some meds.
Hi to everyone! I have been reading as much as I can and never seem to have time to post. DS #2 had his teeth out last Thursday and did an amazing job. He talked through the entire thing and was not upset at all- we were amazed. Life has just been busy with DS 1 starting learn to skate in the hockey program and finishing soccer season at the same time. I did the Making Strides walk on Sunday. God I hate that walk. It is a very windy day here and the temps are pretty cool and DS has soccer tonight, so I am making a beef stew in the crock pot for when we get home.
I hope everyone is well- Eric so glad Sharon is doing so wonderfully!
-
Apple, Dou.DS like you have it under control and that recipe sounds great.
Deb, hope you feel better.
KAARA, that Apple butter bbq'd sound so good too.
Laurie, too bad the walk wasn't warmer.
Much love to all -
Oh, I hope you feel better soon, Debbie....also wish I could send you some soup!
Laurie, Bravo to courageous little DS2!
Susan thanks for that great review of Rendezvous. Will have to put it on my list of special places to go! I knew Central square many years ago, too....like the early 70's. S nice to see it reviving now!
Our rug shampoo effort in the family room worked pretty well, and now I am working on my menu for our guests Saturday (our houseguests as well as another of our college friends and her DH) since we will be in Football mode (ND/BYU).... then food for the rest of the one couple's stay here. Have never made lulled pork, but it sounds like a good idea, and maybe a veggie chili, and some cole slaw. Just finished stripping corn kernels to use for my black bean and corn salsa. Saw a leprachaun (fighting Irish, get it?) pie recipe which is not exactly the ingredients I use in our regular diet, but it will be good for gimmickry! Then I also think I'll pick up another dessert from Trader's. I may be all set!
Using the crock pot for the pulled pork, and crossing my fingers since I have never tried making this before.....looks pretty fail-safe, tho.
Have a good evening everyone. The hype about the debate is wild! I feel the media is turning this into the super bowl! In reality it is much more important! -
Lacey, what an apt description of the hoopla over the debate tonight.
Dinner tonight is pasta with Italian sausage and red sauce. And roasted veggies.
Debbie, so sorry you're not feeling well.
Eric and Moonflower, what does a nuclear engineer do?
-
i'm waiting to eat.. everything is fixed but mr. apple is at taekwando with the girl child.. then son #2 has to go somewhere.. in the car. i guess I'll volunteer.
-
HOLY CRAP, we just had a 4.5 earthquake
-
Is that what that was?

Saw my BS, she clinically evaluated me, cellulitis is gone, no biopsy is necessary, she said nothing would show up anyway and then you would have to deal with the healing of that. I agreed. It is what it is, tata will just have to look and feel the way it is because of the radiation compromising the lymphatic system in the breast, it may get better. She wanted to see me in 3 months, I said I will see you after my next mammo, she was ok with that but gave me a lecture on how to take care of my tata to avoid anymore trouble. I said I will be super duper carefull.
Next mammo is in July.
-
deb,
Cute avitar! Are those your cats? Hard for me to tell how you feel about today's news. Can you put your concerns aside? I hope you feel that this is 'nothing' [which means NOT cancer] and can put this scare behind you.
*susan*
-
Any damage? I hope all is well. Earthquakes really get scary when they hit 6.5 or 7!
-
Not my cats, although the cat I have now (was my DD's) looked like those when she was a kitten.
All I wanted from my BS is for her to reassure me that everything will be OK and she did. It makes me feel a lot better, now I can move on. I go to the Breast Care Center in Woburn right across from the Mall next to the route 38 rotary. I love the care but hate the commute. May start looking for new doctors at the Lowell General Hospital.
-
Wishing you better Debbie.
Fish tacos for dinner.
Wishing all enjoyable dinners and healing hugs to those that need them.
-
susan~here is a pic of Tinkerbell. She is almost 15 years old now.
-
I will be looking for closer doctors soon. Lowell General Hospital has a excellent cancer center.
-
This is her now.
-
The thickening skin showed up on mammo and MRI and it may always be that way. So ladies, take care of your radiated tata. Try not to get any bug bites that may crawl in your bra or subconsciously scratch your tata with hands that have been cleaning dirty places or planting in your garden, that may of happened to me. Even after radiation, keep that area moisturized even if you have foobs or no recon done, keep the skin clean, soft and supple. Instructions from my BS, Dr. Kelley Cornell.
-
deb,
That is one cute cat!

Deb...I'm happy to hear it's good news. What a relief. Don't forget to breathe!
Cute kitty. I had a cat adopt me in college and I've had a cat every since.
Sharon is/was a nuclear fuels engineer. She is the one who figured out how much and what kind of uranium pellets went into the reactor. Pillow talk can be kind of interesting. :-). She was a US Navy lieutenant and a ship's engineer too.
I'm with DD at a high school fund raiser. It's neat seeing the kids, but it does make me feel old....
And as far as the earthquake....I didn't realize they happened "up" there. I grew up in southern California. There they were fairly common. Now that I'm in Arizona, it's been awhile since I've felt one.
Apple, did you finally get some company for dinner?
Eric -
So, I was busy multi-tasking while getting a late dinner ready, and my phone rang with my neighbor asking, "Did you feel that?" I actually didn't notice the earthquake (we got a very far tremble since it was centered in Maine)in my moving frenzy, but DH did. I was actually disappointed since I've had the pleasure of experiencing four earthquakes while living in this house....."pleasure" because we have yet to have a "big one", and it is so fascinating to feel your house kind of "stretching" about you!
We went to the food store late this afternoon and I was disappointed that they did not have pork butt, aka Boston Butt, for my pulled pork. Said that people also use the shoulder which they carry. Hmmmmmm ......Any advice on that? I can go elsewhere to get the Boston Butt if need be.
I though that Candy Crowley did a superb job tonight moderating the debate....good for her! -
Boston Butt is a part of the shoulder. The shoulder is comprised of two parts: the butt and the picnic. The difference is pretty signifigant. The picnic is what is used for cured ham. If you are trying to make a pulled pork, I would call around and find yourself a boston butt.

Thanks Susan. I definitely would have lost at Letterman' s, Know Your Cuts of Meat!
-
Looking for dinner?
-
Lacey, I tried pulled pork with the picnic cut once, definitely an inferior result.
Deb, very happy for you! -
Deb- Great news!!! Yay!!
Lacey- You can also use a pork loin. I have pork I pulled out to do pulled pork tomorrow and it said it was a center cut roast? Huh- I know I have used it before and it was good. Bought it because it was on sale.
-
Had meatloaf for dinner last night..made with hormone free organic ground beef from Costco. It was delicious! Leftovers for lunch! Also some roasted butternut squash with onions and celery. The freezer purging is going well...lol!
Beautiful day here today...leaves in full color....going to Rascal Flats concert tomorrow evening in Greenville, so hope the weather holds!
Earthquake in the NE? Wow....the only one I was in was in Palm Springs and I thought someone was rollling a laundry cart down the sidewalk...my BF said "no...it's an earthquake".
-
i felt earthquakes once... so scary. I missed the big one (Northern Greece, 1979 or 8)
-
i am going to attempt beef short ribs for dinner.. I've done them a couple times with less than stellar results. I'll brown the meat, add liquid then vegetables on top... i think.
