Hello,

I am French and live in Australia.  Diagnosed in Oct. 2010, mastectomy in nov. 2010, started chemo in Dec. 2010. I am wondering if there are any French ladies here. Not that i wish that to anybody :(

    Hi Marie-Edith, I'm not French but I did study the French language a long time ago.  Welcome to the boards of BCO and I'm sure amoungst all the lovely women here there is sure to be a someone who is Fench.  I hope your treatrments are going well and you are managing to cope with them.  There is a lot of information to be had here.  I don't know if anyone has suggestef to you to check out the threads and see if there is one headed....'starting chemo Dec. 2010' .....  check it out and perhaps you will find a lot of support and suggestions from others doing the treatments at the same time.

    Bonjour Crissyb,

    Hope you enjoyed learning French.It's a difficult language, i must admit! I was just being curious to see if there was some French people here!! I won't be long, i'm getting ready to go for my chemo today. The tought of it already makes me sick :(

    Not French but definitely a francophile. I went to boarding school there. Paris owns some of my happiest childhood and young-adult memories. The countryside owns my courses in manners, wine and history. Some of my best clubbing nights are in Paris. Welcome, Marie Edith. Bienvenue!

    I'm glad you have some good memories from France. It's a really good experience. It's nice to travel and experience different cultures. I wanted to take my girls to Paris this year and  bought a  plane ticket for April. Of course i bought it before i was diagnosed with bc. I am waiting to see if the airline will accept to change my ticket, as we don't have travel insurance and it was a low cost ticket. 

    I actually come from Normandy. (Cows, milk, cheese, apples, cider, cognac and lots of rain too !!)

    Bonjour Marie-Edith!  Oú habité vous en Australie?   I think I've remembered correctly....lol.  I'm in a small country town caled Burra in South Australia.  I hope your chemo treatment went well today and you don't have too many SE's over the next few days.

    How old are your girls?  Mine are all grown up and at 40 and 37, I think I need to start calling them women....lol  I have four grandsons aged 15, 14, 13, and 12 and I adore each of them but my eldest GS is the one I'm closest to.  He is a very talented  budding young artist and we often have conversations on art and tecnique.

    You take care, and remember to hydrate as much as possible and rest when you need to.

    Bonjour Chrissyb,

    J'habite pres d'Adelaide, a Mount Barker. Ce week end il va faire tres chaud ! Et  merci je vais bien apres la chimio et bois beaucoup d'eau.

    Chrissyb, we also met on the Australian sister board. I think the Adelaide hills are beautiful especially in winter when everything is green. The food, wine and cheese is excellent so i am very happy here. My girls are aged 11 and 13 years old. They have never seen Paris yet and i promised them i will show them so i must keep my promise !!  My family is the best thing for me, that's what give me so much strength with that bc battle. It's great that you have a big family as well and grandchildren. My eldest daughter is also into art and technologie at school !!  

    Well i certainly don't feel like coffee this morning and after a night of sweats and chills, water sound good and i'll probably rest today.

    Marie Edith, I think you are right!  I am sure I welcomed you to the Aussie BC boards.  Lol.  I am known as pusathome there although I don't visit there often now as I have become very comfortable here. Until almost three years ago, I used to live at Norton Summit also in the Adelaide hills and not far from where you are.  Two of my grandsons live at Little Hampton so I know your area well.  Family is very important at a time like this as they give us a reason to fight on and do what ever we need to for however long we need to do it.  How many more treatments of chemo do you need to do?  Just remember, that each one you do is one less that you need to do.

    That's what i said to a friend today after reading your comment : each chemo i do is one less to be done. I still have 12 weekly rounds to go, starting in 2 weeks now. Yes i agree, family is so important. Littlehampton is very near, do you visit often?  Don't worry, i'm new so i haven't written many posts. But i like to read what people have to say, it's very interesting.

    I come to Adelaide about every six weeks as I have a standing Doctors appointment with my GP who is in Stirling.  I am due to be in Adelaide for the last week in February.  I have an overnight hospital visit at that time and a few other appointments but I would love to catch up with you if you are up to it.  I'll pm you my phone numbers if you would like.  Just let me know yes or no.

    There is a lot to learn and this site is particularly good for good information.  The ladies here are very knowlegable and what makes it even better, is that they are very willing to share what they have learned and what they have experienced.  In the time I have been a member, I have come to know and love a lot of ladies as good friends.  I hope you can do the same.  You should never have to feel alone or lonely or think that no-one actually 'gets' what you feel as each and every person here definitely does. 

    Oh my, I've rambled on a bit so I'll say good night for now and hope that you feel well tomorrow.

    Bonjour Marie Edith!  I am french and I live in virginia for over 40 years, but born in Orleans France, I was dx in oct 2009 stage IV  but I am doing well, I go to the Cancer Center of America and they are wonderful, after chemo, I am currently on arimedex and zometa for the bones. I hope the chemo is not too hard on you. Je vous souhaite bonne chance et bientot une tres bonne sante.by the way I love Edith  Piaf in( non rein de rien, non je ne regrette rien.)

    Alors, Edith Piaf! Je suis une chanteuse et heir soir j'ai chante "Non, je ne regrette rien"....Haven't spoken in too long (French grandmother dead many years as well as my Mom) but sing in French all the time. Family is from Normandy, Coutainville to be precise. Spent my summers in Andorra and so spoke French (and Spanish) all the time there. Live in New York state now, by the Tappan Zee bridge.

    Bonjour!  Si tu vas  a "Calling all Canadian Women" thread, je pense qu il ya plus de francophones.  Il a plusiers femme de Montreal (comme moi), et je suis certaine que tu peut trouver des femmes et hommes qui parle/ecrit francais.  Je parle meiux que j'ecrit, mais je me force a ecrire.

    Je pense qu'on peut dire aux compagnies aeriennes qu'on a ete malade (cancer) et ils peuvent te laisser changer le billet. (Je n'ai aucune idee de fair des accents ici).

    Bon je me tais parce que j'ai oublie beaucoup de francais! A bientot!

    Bonjour mes amies! Non, j'ne suis pas francaise. (and my French is terrible since I studied it over 30 years ago!). But I ran an exchange program with French students for a while (the stress, Mon Dieu!). Love France, and had a trip planned to Normandie, 2 days after Sept, 11th, 2001. Ah, C'est la Vie! But I have been to gay Paree, 3 times. Still need to get to Normandie et Mont St. Michel, I can't wait to see it! I can still read French en peu. But as you can tell, my writing skills are pretty poor, and my speaking is even worse.

    Just wanted to say Hi, and let you Aussies know, I am praying that the floods are receding and that you all have been able to stay dry.

    Mont St. Michel, apart from being breathtaking, had the best omelettes I have ever tasted. Of course, that was embarrassingly long ago. For all I know, it's been flooded - lol! I hope not.

    OMG! So many people ! Bonjour tout le monde !!!

    I love the Mont St Michel, it's a beautiful place but very busy. I know Coutainville well i come from Pirou- Plage (15 kms away). J'adore aussi Edith Piaff !! I saw the movie.  Me and my girls love to sing our favorite song is of course "Non je ne regrette rien", but i also have a CD with many other songs.  

    Bonjour Athena : Omelettes and butter cookies, yum :)  We explained the circumstances to the airline company but still waiting. Will let you know. I don''t have accents on my computer. Your french is excellent !!

    Bonjour Vivre : Nice name. It sounds interesting to organise students exchange. My daughter also corresponds with a French student. Thanks for your nice thoughts for the flood victims. I hope you'll get to Normandy one day :)

     Bonjour Littletower/ Adele : We must have the same "roots". I am a mixture of Normand and Parisian, and Spanish down the line !! But i've always felt like a true normand. Good luck with everything :)

    Bonjour Maximus/Danielle : So you are an expatriate as well ! It's kind of sad that we get to meet on that website. I'm glad you're doing well, I've had chemo 2 days ago and the worst now is the fatigue. Moi aussi je te souhaite bonne chance, bon courage et bonne sante :)

    Bonjour Chirssy : Yes i would love to meet you. My husband works in Stirling. i need to look in my calandar to see when i could come to Adelaide, if it corresponds with you that would be great to go for a coffee maybe :) will let you know soon. It's true, i've learned so much on this site, as everybody's experience can be different. A tres bientot :)

    Marie-Edith, I have my GP appointment at 2.15pm 1st March in Stirling so if you would like to meet at noon for luch at the Organic Cafe that would suit me just fine and you would have less to travel.  I'll pm my phone numbers for you.

    Bonjour Marie Edith,  How wonderful to meet someone who is French on these boards.  Moi, je suis Francaise, mais c'est par mariage.  C'est facile a voir que je ne parle pas tres bien le Francais, mais j'essaye.  Il y a tant de femmes ici qui parlent Francais!  

    Nous avons de la famille qui habite en France, mais c'est dans le sud, pres d'Aix en Provence. Je n'ai jamais ete a Normandy, mais j'aimerais bien y visiter.  

    Quelle domage que c'est notre rencontre avec le cancer qui nous amene ici.  We seem to share a diagnosis.  I have lobular breast cancer, too, and am progesterone negative.  I hope your treatments are very successful.

    Isn't it amazing that we can come here from all over the world and talk like this?  Warm hugs from California.  Gitane

    Quelle surprise de voir tant de personnes qui parlent francais sur ce site et ca me fait plaisir de vous "rencontrer", et malheureusement sur ce site. Et vous parlez tres bien le Francais aussi, j'espere que vous aimez aller en france voir votre famille, et manger !!!  Aujourd'hui il fait tres chaud en Australie et dois faire un gateau d'anniversaire pour ma fille qui a 12 ans !! Chocolat bien sur!!

    I actually read lots of your posts because of the same type of cancer that we have. That "unknown" pleomorphic type that sounds scary !!  By changing our diet and lifestyle we can actually help ourselves to lower the risk of recurence for the future. Sorry if i sound boring, i just want to help !! It's hard, even myself i can't stick to it (the change of diet). Especially going through chemo now..  it's practibly impossible !! Definitely have no energy do do sport for exemple !! But i'll have to do it !! Someone will win, me or the cancer !! So i have to fight every way i can !!!

    I really admire you. (still can't beleive you're actually French !!!) How are you doing with your life now ? I hope you are well :) Are you on any particular board ?

    I lived in Paris for 5 months for work and fell in love with France.  EVERYTHING about France--guess that makes me a Francophile as well.

    I don't write or speak well but understand some conversation....

    Puisque je suis ici, j'aimerai dire bonjour a tout le monde. J'espere que tout le monde va bien. Moi ca va, a part la fatigue ,fatigue, fatigue tous les jours !!!  En plus je dors mal avec la chaleur!!

    Joyeux anniversaire a votre fille, Marie-Edith.  12 ans, c'est speciale.  

    Oui, la fatigue est bien difficile.  Je vais bien, merci.  Ca fait cinq ans deja, mais je sais que le cancer peut retourner et pour moi... alors je pense souvent a ca.  Je vais encore chez l'oncologiste le jour apres demain, et a cause de ca je suis plus nerveuse que d'habitude.  

    It's fun trying out my French here. You are right, having "pleomorphic" lobular is very scary. I do watch what I eat and am very lucky that my husband is such a great cook!  Take very good care of yourself.  G.

    I am enjoying reading your French. I am happy I can still understand it, even though it has been so long. Just wish I could remember how to speak French!

    As you can see I am such a francophile I chose a french word as my name.

    Too bad we cannot type the accents easily.

    Happy Birthday to your daughter Marie-Edith. It is my birthday too. Since I do not eat cake anymore, tell her to eat an extra piece for me! Do you sleep in a totally darkened room? It helps. It there is any light at all, even from a clock, it interupts the body's production of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Since I started to cover my eyes, I have been sleeping much better.

    Bonjour Marie-Edith and all.

    I guess I count as a francophile though I can't speak very much french--other than being able to say, Je regrette, je ne parle pas francais in such a fashion that whomever I am speaking to insists that I do speak French and then talks faster!

    I am 16 days away from a trip to Paris with my husband and 3 monsters [13, nearly 11 and 9].  It will be the 3d trip there for my oldest, 2d trip for the middle child and first trip for the youngest.  They are all very excited.  Paris is my reward for the year of stupidbreastcancer and the radiation and 3 surgeries.  When things got too scary and there were too many tests, I concentrated on my future reward.

    Regarding your airline tickets, you will probably need a letter from your doctor about your diagnoisis.  With most tickets, even the cheap ones, a cancer diagnoisis will create flexibility.   I will say that in the States at least, the schools are much more flexibile unofficially when the reason the child is missing class is a trip to France so just plan to switch your tickets and go with your girls as soon as you feel better.

    Happy Birthday to your daughter!  My daughter will turn 11 the day after we get back from Paris.

    Salut tout le monde! Je suis tres contente d'avoir rencontre tant de femmes ici qui parlent francais. J'ai ete seulement une fois en France, et plusieurs fois au Quebec, mais j'enseignais la langue pendant 28 ans dans une ecole publique ici en Ohio. Je regrette que je ne sache pas faire les accents sur ce compu mais vous me comprendrez,  j'espere. La meilleure chance a tous dans cette nouvelle annee, moi je vais assez bien apres 4 ans a l'etape IV et presque 10 ans apres la premiere diagnostique (?).  Alors je vous laisse et j'espere que nous nous rencontrions bientot.

    Je suis un peu moins fatiguee aujourd'hui et merci Vivre pour vos bons souhaits d'Anniversaire,  D'ailleur je pense m'etre trompee. Je ne sais meme pas si le mot "oncologiste" existe ou bien si on dis "cancerologue" ( ca, ca existe j'en suis sure !!) Je perds beaucoup la memoire !!

    Monstmama je suis contente que vous alliez enfin a Paris. C'est une belle recompense en effet. En plus avec votre famille ca va etre magnifique.

    AliceJean (tres joli nom) bienvenue, moi non plus je n'ai pas d'accents sur mon clavier!!  Excusez moi mais bien que francaise, je fait aussi beaucoup de fautes, surtout de grammaire !! Je vous souhaite aussi une bonne continuation, et du courage pour lutter :)

    I have received a letter from the airline company and we have 2 choices. First one is to cancel our tickets with a charge  per ticket.

    Change the date at no extra cost but travelling before september. Because we purchased a low cost ticket and the specials are no longer available, it will mean paying the differnce between the full price and the special price. It could become very expensive for us especially if we travel during the summer season. At the moment we are still booked for the 14th May, but my treatment finishes at the end of June. Don't know what to do yet. If it is unafordable for us i will have to either cancel and not go at all :(  or continu the treatment in France ???

    Alors, j'ai fait des recherches.  L'oncologie, carcinologie et cancerologie sont les specialites medicales.  Le medecin est appele oncologue ou cancerologue.   On dit, "Je vais chez l'oncologue",  oui?  J'espere que c'est comme ca qu'on le dit.  Mais, je sais que je lis le mot "oncologiste" tout le temps sur l'internet.

    C'est vraiment domage que la companie aeriene ne peut pas vous rembourser votre argent, ou au moins vous donner plus de temps. Ils devraient etre plus flexible dans ce cas-la.  

    Je trouve la vache, que vous avez choisi comme "avatar", tres mignone.
