Blue, I trust you and I've seen enough postings elsewhere on it, no need for me to sit through the thing.  The level of paranoia and fear is amazing though.  I think that may be one of the major differences between liberals and conservatives.  In fact I recently read a study that pretty much came up with the same thing.  Conservatives are inclined to fear anything/anyone different from their experience while liberals are more apt to be tolerant and inquisitive. Now I'm wondering if that study was something someone posted here.

E - glad you are feeling better. Surgery leads to whacko effects. Bled through my abdomen once - wasn't sure whether to stem the bleeding or encourage it - after all, the blood looked like liquid fat - who doesn't want to get rid of that -lol! Called my doctor and told him of my dilemma.

Don't think I will waste xxxx time on a bad film - I never liked sci fi fantasy anyway....

Sure, they can go to the ER where care is ten times more expensive than an office visit. And when they don't pay the bills because they can't (which is why they went there in the first place), the costs get passed on to the insurance companies and then on to us.



You see, the trickle down theory works well for expenses, not income.

I think Romney finds himself in a classic 21st century conservative quandry: If you are republican there is no way you appeal to the extreme right without forgoing your electability as president - not without Rove's evil genius at your side, at least, and certainly not without a bad opponent like Kerry. No human can do such an acrobatic leap, least of all a tin man like Mitt.

The GOP has gone so, so far to the right that it is no longer really a major party, except in name.

Maybe Independents should officially declare themselves a major party. With Democrats being the other major party, the right wingers would have to resign themselves to remaining on the fringes. They have very loud voices, but luckily the country isn't accepting them.

Mitt's ER comment is of such astounding ignorance, cruelty (again!) and fiscal irresponsibility.

I'm inclined to agree.....I think the conservatives do seem to have way too much fear.  Though not all, I did see many excerpts from 2016 when it first surfaced and saw little need to watch in the entirety...sorry Blue.  I have just reached the exasperating point of telling most of those I'm around ( so many in my own family ) that I'm going to hell in a hand basket and sticking with the one who has actually made my life better these past four years....now why do you hate Medicare and Social Security so much. 

Sure as well it was more than likely said here many, many times....but if defines any ability for me to understand how people I know to be intelligent can suck up Fox News like it is the Holy Grail.  Where does a person's intellect hide when they are watching this weird double-speak.   Oh well.....I'll leave that be and go enjoy the sunshine on my way to work.

I cannot understand (seriously) why anyone would vote for Willard, but espsecially not: women, gays, minorities, low income workers, military, military families,healthcare workers, healthcare recipients (just go to the ER!!) and seniors.

I see that the GOP spokesfolks are now pushing the meme that the polls are not showing the "true" intentions of the populace and that far more Dems are being polled than Repubs.

So, a couple of thoughts:   Which polling firms are using landlines only, thereby not even including most of those under-40 voters?  I know that several of my under-40 relatives up here in the Great White North are dispensing with landlines entirely and using only their cells.

And could the real reason the GOPers are pursuing this meme simply be that they are depending on lack of voter IDs, harrassment at the polling stations and hacked voting machines to produce a GOP victory so that they can say "See, we TOLD you the polls were wrong".  Now that is totally scary for you folks.

And another thing:  DH and I were talking about our TV viewing habits last night (we do not watch anything together, BTW).  I said "What do you do when a commercial comes on?"  He replied "I either mute it or switch to another channel, or, if I've recorded it (which he very frequently does) I just zip right through".

I basically do the same.  I bet many (most/all) of you do the same.  So my question is:  How effective are all the umpteen thousands of political ads?  I strongly suspect that this is the last major election where TV ads will be used to any significant extent, especially since many people are now getting their entertainment on or via the 'net.

I turn off political ads. Most of them are either misleading or outright lies - and that's all candidates. The Republicans don't have a monopoly on lying, though if there were a way to make gazillions producing lies while paying factory workers less than a living wage, they'd find a way to monopolize it.

OK - on the ER thing.  Am I wrong or does the ER not do cancer treatments or treat for chronic diseases like diabetes?  My understanding is that the ER will stabilize you if you are in a life threatening situation and then tell you to get follow up treatment.

The Repubs are running an ad that has Obama talking about "you didn't build it"  I hear the original speech and the Repubs cut out two sentences giving an entirely false impression.  They did the same thing with "distribution".  Obama was speaking and it appeared to be seamless, but several sentences explaining that he was talking about distribution of government services were cut out.  The movie is the same with carefully edited clips or carefully edited quotes.

Republican ad makers are world class propoganda machines and count on people not down loading the actual speeches.

AND, you will soon hear the VIDEO of Willard interviewed a few years ago, bemoaning the FACT that uninsured COULD go to Emergency rooms - cuz, get ready for it, THAT was "socialized medicine" cuz "we" ( that didn't include me, or you, or anyone I know) shouldn't HAVE to pay for it...which is what happens when someone goes to Emergency Room with no coverage.

Also, Willard is 33% BEHIND the President of the United States in Willard's HOME STATE of MA - ( or so said David Axelrod on Sunday talkies)  - AND, every, and I mean EVERY SINGLE TOWN IN MA has to raise FEES ( ythink taxes) and taxes on individuals to MAKE UP FOR what Willard took away in State taxes - ALSO, WILLARD took the HARD DRIVES of ALL STATE COMPUTERS when he left his one term in office, so no one could TRACE a thing he did.

On lying: it is human and nonpartisam in principle.

But when you are going through a particularly bad part in your history, you have run out of ideas and your own solutions don't work, and you are a politician, you lie.

Dems are just as capable of lying, for sure, but they are simply not needing to do so right now 1/16th as much as the GOP is. They also don't have a Karl Rove policy that says lies, told enough, will eventually get believed. There are a few misstatements (such as quoting Romney unfairly in the "I like firing people") but to compare that with GOP lying "rates" would be a false equivalency. And that's one reason why I don't like CNN. They are the kings of false equivalents. They opened with the story on Romney's 47 percent comments and immediately had Ari Fleischer's take, then the democratic take, as though it was all just a matter of party politics.

Don't try to keep track of these changing views, your head will spin - it was in 2007 that Willard used the word "socialism" to describe inviduals using emergency rooms if they had no insurance coverage.
