Happy Birthday SusieQ. You're only as old as you feel, so go buy something new and feel it!!!

Hubby n I wall-papered a wall in our basement today, we both think it looks better now.
I've been busily removing 50+ year old wall paper in my sewing room. Unfortunately, it seems that there is something in the wall paper that both hubby and I are dreadfully allergic to. After I work on it for a couple hours I can't do anything but sleep - and my body aches for the next day or two. I should just take a couple days off work and get it done, but it simply ticks me off to use vacation for anything other than actual vacation right now. I had to "spend" six weeks of vacation for my DIEP surgery in 2011 - which was NOT a vacation!!! -
Thanks Girls - I did buy a new top yesterday - feels great

-
Susie Happy Birthday!!
-
Ooops - you'll have to add a 'z' in there now. I was sitting here at work and realised I hadn't tried Susie spelt differently and voila - my new name.
Thankyou Alexandria
-
Athena - I thought DC was in the same media market - friend in Bethesda says they're being inundated with NOVA ads - she is doing a lot of work for Kaine in NOVA, says it's looking good!
Mary - I thought you'd llike that video! Isn't it AMAZING. "I didn't ask you a question." TO A TEACHER! He had already identified her as a teacher....makes my head ache. Can't wait til CLC sees it...she's gonna have steam comin' out of her ears.
Ouch gardengumby - wonder if it's an "arsenic" related paste, or even worse, or as bad, mold - oooooh, I am so allergic to mold...hope you're wearing VERY GOOD MASKS...and have fans, extractors running FULL TIME in the house...hope you're feeling better..

Enjoyful...hoping for a benign result!
Susie...Happy Birthday!
Sunflowers...some days that would make steam come out of my ears. Tonight, it made me cry. I feel so defeated by this world some days. The world is so so so messed up. The schools are letting corporations (testing, textbook, pepsi, etc...) call so many shots. The administrators are pushing their ideas of good teaching, though they have never taught. The state and federal government are chastising and punishing teachers for the state of affairs, and in doing so, are gutting anything that is left that is good in public education. The result will be that the rich children of our country will go to private school. The poor will be, once again, screwed.
I am now considering leaving teaching. I love teaching. But my job has become entirely an effort to protect and shield my students from the harm that is being foisted on them by the incessant testing, the demoralizing of their teachers (yes, they go from class to class and face frustrated saddened teachers), the constant barrage of candy sales, the increases in class sizes...the list goes on and on. I don't think I will be able to effectively shield them from that for much longer. You would all be stunned if you knew what is actually going on with the push to increase standards. Just a small example: every teacher in my building will be rated on a number scale. 20% of that number will be based on how every student in the building scores on their math and ela exam in June...even if you teach science. Yes. Every teacher in the building will be evaluated as equally effective (as to that 20%) and it is completely unrelated to your own performance. For another 20%, at the beginning of the year, every student has to take an exam on the material they have not yet been taught. The teacher will be assessed on what percentage of students don't get a 75% on that exam but do get a 75% at the end of the year. So, if a teacher manages to get a student from performing at a 30% to a 65%, they are considered ineffective. If a student goes from a 75% to 100%, they are ineffective. But the WORST part of this is that the students have to waste their time taking a test that will simply make them feel crappy about themselves because they won't know much of it.
I am sorry to rant. But the world is so so so messed up.

Susie...Happy birthday!
Enjoyful...hoping all is benign!
Sunflowers...Some days those things make steam come from my ears...and some days they just make me cry. I am so very sad for how horribly messed up the world is.
I deleted my other post, because it is too much of a rant. And no one wants to hear that crap. Suffice it to say that education is getting gutted by the right. And the people who will suffer are the poor. The rich will go to private school.

And I am deeply saddened by it... And I think dark depressing thoughts about the world around me. So I can't always focus on how messed up it is...and I have to turn my face back to the sun...

What the heck is going on with the board today? I'm having a terrible time posting. Anyway, let me try and hope it goes better this time.
Happy Birthday, Susie/Suzie!
-
Happy Birthday suzie.
-
Thankyou girls - wish I'd stayed home. One very very nice surprise - my son called from London and sang to me (he's an opera singer) - I cried. Dodn't know he had my work number. I miss them SO much. Why aren't we rich so we can just pop over there when we like. He promised to send some new photos/videos of Alexander - can't wait to see them.
On another note - it's the 3 year anniversary of that mammo that resulted in my diagnosis.
-
Happy Birthday SuzieQ.
Kam170, Glad you liked the article. It sounds like your doctors are doing their best to keep current.
-
Hey, I just ran across the best video - eye candy and political content alert!

Happy Birthday, Suzie!Hope it's still that day in down under!
-
River Rat - awesome! So darn cute.
Happy birthday, SuzieQ! Every birthday is a victory! -
Thanks girls - yes, it's still Monday morning.
-
Enjoyful/Scoot....Was going to say if you needed some cheering up you should watch River Rat's video. That is something I'm sure I could watch many times over. SuzieQ.....birthdays...what would we do without them. A pleasant way to mark time --- great the inside usually doesn't keep total pace with the numbers, so have lots and lots, and lots more.
Jackie

-
More thanks to you girls - love you all.
Can't say I've done any work today - better try and do a little

-
HB Suzie!!
River Rat - Ann Romney would just say "it's hard" to that!
-
Speaking of conservative thinking - my mother and sister thinks Fox News is too liberal - I kid you not!
-
This is "True the Vote" ^^
It's really what they use to call Racial Intimidation designed to reduce votes from minorities.
-
Kam, LIKE!!
-
2016 - the stupidest opportunistic movie I ever saw. A waste of 1 hour and 27 minutes. That is all.
Oh and wonder why it came out now.....DUH!
-
Happy Birthday, Suzie - hope it's the best one yet.
CLC - let the sun shine, it's going to be okay, really. YOU are doing the MOST IMPORTANT work in the world.
Hi, Blue, hope the wedding excitment is building, and your sciatic pain is going away
"Swing states" are turning BLUE, yeah.
Having a great giggle about Willard's wife saying "this is hard" - yeah, right - so what does she think being President of the United States is? easy? What a doofus attitude - stop being critical of us, can you spell entitlement????
-
Thankyou Sun - I did survive the day

-
Blue, that movie gives a whole new meaning to the word propaganda. Very sad what fearful people will latch on to and cling to. Very sad, but unfortunately, not surprising!

-
Lassie, I had to watch the video several times myself to make sure I understood the words.

Kam, you cracked me up.
Riley, I've heard that too.
Belinda, I am so stealing that graphic.
