Ha - we crossposted, HL - nice to see you. Yes, awful heat, but happy country with the ruling, no?

SUN: As Timothy Egan said in the NYT, Romney is going to have to run against himself on this one (not that he hasn't been doing that already).

So do you all know that both Fox News and CNN misreported the SCOTUS decision initially as the court having struck down the law? I think Fox corrected itself relatively quickly (and never apologized, but then, who is Rupert Murdoch to uphold any standards of decency...), but CNN went on    f o r e v e r .... Fully four reporters/analysts commented on the supposed political disaster for Obama before the first reporter finally had to say that "upon further reading" it was clear that the Court had not struck down the law.

To see the whole, incredible CNN "most trusted name in news" debacle, go here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsjHThZmKrw

Notice how the headlines are dead wrong too.

I am not one to be happy at another's mistake but in this case I am - CNN has been producing awful content and shoddy journalism for years, all the while calling itself objective (at least FN smirks when it calls itself "fair and balanced"). I hope this serves as a wake-up call. They did issue an apology later, but that is hardly enough to contain the PR damage. I hope all of cable TV takes note of how shoddy it's "instant" journalism has become.

MSNBC got it right, but Chris Matthews and that radio talk host are total bozos (I do like Rachel Maddow). There are very few professionals left in television news.

Jancie and all, I grew up in McLean.  I can assure everyone that its just as hot in McLean as it is in the rest of the DC metro area.

Athena, thank you for the weather report.  Every once in a while I need a reminder exactly why I swore I would never live in the DC Metro area again. . . . . Smile

In my happy place here in the PNW enjoying that I am not suffering from heat.  I know Mary is wishing for sunshine but if my choices are cloud cover OR 105, I will take the cloud cover any day.

Besides, as I look to the south, I see some thinning in the clouds....

Scheduled Little League practice has been switched from 5pm to 7pm tonight...

    How exactly does that help?

"Game is still planned for tomorrow at 12 noon."

The game will be in Manassas, VA.

If still under a heat advisory my son will not play.

It was a great night of arguing last night.

HAHAHAH, Ang ... I wondered what that racket was about!  I'm with you -- if the heat is still as intense tomorrow, nobody should even leave the basement.  I went out to take back some library books and opening the back door was just like opening the oven door.  Hell, it was 92 on my deck at 10 AM ... and my back yard is completely shaded to the point that my back roof grows moss!  I cannot imagine making little kids (or big kids or adults) play any sport in this inferno.  Vicious, it is ... just vicious.

Stay in, stay cool and make lemonade slushies for consolation!!

Miss Poppy is glad to be home from her imprisonment and hasn't been cranky with me.

We have a morning of 4 degrees C forecast for one day next week - I feel your pain Athena. Is the humidity high where you are?

Oh, DC manages somehow, Sun. I think we are breaking records for June. I am going to go broke with all the taxis I am taking. DC Metro stations have uneven a/c (to put it kindly) and so do trains.

complain, complain....at least I have a/c and a roof over my head. Cool The whole country is burning up, it seems.

We haven't heard from Anne in Colorado for awhile.  Every time I see videotape of the fires near Colorado Springs, I think of her and hope so much that she and family are okay (although I don't know if she lives anywhere near there).

Temps here are hovering around 90F, rather humid but there is a wee breeze, at least.  I hear that it's going to be a hot, hot summer, and I don't like that one bit!  The Pacific northwest sounds pretty good right nowCool

Thankyou Artsee - we are lucky to be here. I'm glad I will be able to see him more often than the other little boy but we are still a couple of hours flight away, so it won't be often enough. Trying to talk DD into moving back near us but if she did we would have no excuse to go down there to buy wine:)

Most of the wine we bought has already arrived - we think there is one more dozen to come - total 7 dozen - eek!!

Sorry to intrude - Lindasa, you asked about Anne - I believe she is from Boulder, where there are also massive fires. I admire her, have been concerned for her  & her home (which sounds woodsy), so have been checking you ladies' thread where I know she posts... so I hope she checks in soon.

Northern Sierra Foothills - it's 85 and 25% humidity. "Goldilocks weather." Just right.

94 degrees here and 11% humidity.  It is hot and dry.  Another fire started today in Rose Canyon - already burned some homes and 200 acres.  The town of Herriman has been evacuated.  I know a horse trainer there with about 15 horses on her property.  Don't know any details yet.

However, MY trainer's parents home burned down yesterday in Idaho due to a fire.

We are now battling 7 fires here in Utah.  The smoke was so bad at the barn yesterday due to the winds that I didn't want to ride Jazzy and put her through that - working and inhaling smoke at the same time.

I asked about the weather in McLean as my dh is flying there tomorrow to attend his nephew's funeral next week.  Thanks to all of ya'll - I was able to give him a heads up and tell him to pack SHORTS!

Watching the news now - need to catch some online news and see if I can get more details.

Janice - that's terrible about your DH's nephew - so sorry.

We are three pages away from page 800....don't know about everyone else, but I am missing certain oldbies who don't come here nearly as often as I'd like:

Ann NYC and Barbara come to mind, as does Covertanjou - and Ann from Colorado, who we hope is safe.

Hey, all, checking in from hot and burning Colorado...Thanks for your concern. The pictures of the inferno out of the Springs are sickening. And we've been dealing with a fire locally. It's about 10 miles from our house, as the crow flies, so we can see it from our house. And smell it. Uggg, I'm tired of that stench! We had to evacuate a few years ago, and it's like post-traumatic stress every time another ridge catches fire. We've been fortunate to have a few showers, finally, for about .4 inches total. That's 4 inches overall for the year! Can you say drought??

I'm sick of 95-100 degree weather, but at least it's a dry heat!!!

I've been very busy with my Pilates certification program. It's like getting a degree all over again. So much mental and physical work. My back finally rebelled this week, and I hi-tailed it to my PT to take care of things quickly.

I'm not spending a lot of time on BCO. Too busy and the new format bugs me but I don't know why. I've been through so many interations of it in 10 years here--getting tired of change for change's sake. Yet I admit to the "moth to the flame" syndrome when it comes to the dust-ups that happen on some of the other threads. What great entertainment! (I have to look at it like that, or else I get too worked up!)

Did manage a great little trip out to the Central Coast of CA for several days, tor estock our wine cellar and visit friends. Is it possible to have too much wine? It's too hot for an "out with the old, in with the new" party, so I'll offer up a bunch to the BCOB&G for the next happy hour--on me!!

Everyone take care and stay cool and healthy!

Just talked to a horse person and a local trainer here that is also a dressage judge had to evacuate the horses she had in training and it appears as though her facility has also gone up in flames.  She was able to get all of the horses out but where do you go from here?  They are displaced for who knows how long.

Sorry to keep venting about this stuff but I have to get it off my chest.  Too much crap happening in the past 4 days.  Dh leaves tomorrow and I am going to miss him so much.

Thanks to Lost Creek, and hope you're reading Anne's post now too.

It's almost impossible to believe what we're seeing in CO.  I spent several summers in the mts there, and just weep with the destruction.  Guess everyone knows about the pine beetles, and how dry some of that area is becoming too... the lost of life, property, whole neighborhoods gone.

Thinking of Athena now too, and HL - can't get thru to any of my friends in Bethesda- think they must all be in power outage.  That heat and no electricity - thinking of everyone...

Trying with Artsee to be grateful for just BEING HERE - but circumstances seem so, so, so hard in so many places...
