Southwest Virginia is hot and muggy today too ... with the temps escalating throughout the week.  I miss the weather in San Diego, but there's no moving back there.   It's just way too expensive.  And the housing market continues to fall out there, which is good for first time buyers, but rotten for my son, as they now owe more than their house is valued at.  arghhh.

What chafes my chaps is that even if I could sell and wanted to leave Virginia, I couldn't.  I would never be able to get another home loan.  The economy has tanked so badly that you can no longer get a 'stated income' home loan.  My brother, who has a lovely home in NC, is in the same boat.  We're both self-employed and got our mortgages based on our credit history.

If I could, I'd go back to southern Utah where it's hot and dry in the summer.  I miss the wide open landscape and the mountains there.  I guess I'm a little crabby too today with this humidity.

Another hot crabby person here...and this is supposed to be the coolest day this week.  I sure hope the power grid holds out because without air conditioning I guess I'll be sitting in a tub of water all week wheezing.....Geez, I sound pathetic.  We didn't even have air conditioning until our kids were in college.

My grandchildren enjoyed the sprinkler in the back yard yesterday. Fortunately, the yard is fairly shady.I stayed under the patio umbrella. All were happy. If the electricity fails, I might go under that sprinkler too!

The two little girls who live next door love it when I turn on the sprinkler!  I remember always wanting to go out and play in the puddles after it rained.  Now I wonder why......

Oh Linda, I remember going out IN the rain and playing in the puddles.  And sailing leaf boats down the gutters in the streets during rainstorms.  And playing in the mud in the backyard where the dirt was scuffed under the swingset.

If it rains today and it isn't a thunderstorm I think I'll go out and play in the rain.  

Heat index 108?!  The heat index is like the wind chill - the real number is bad enough, maybe I don't want to hear what it feels like.

This whole week is going to be awful in my area. It's actually dangerous for my health, so I may have to not go to work for a day or two. What a waste of time off.

Enjoy the sprinklers, everyone. I can't even enjoy that in this heat.

Does anybody else remember being near the end of the milk man's route and he'd hand out ice to the kids on these hot days?

River .. that's funny about the milk man ... I was raised in San Diego and don't remember the milk man .. didn't he bring glass bottles?

I remember in western PA the milkman would deliver very early and when I went out to get the milk, the cream would freeze and push the lid up and almost off. So I put it in a bowl, added sugar and had ice cream for breakfast. Mom always wondered why the milk was so thin.

I remember the milk man and the glass bottles and the little insulated box you had on your porch.  I remember the Omar Bakery man, too -- he used to sing out, "Bakery man! Omar Bakery man!" as he came up on the porch.

Bren, yep he put glass bottles of milk in our little milk box that was built into the house by the side door.  It had a little door on the inside and the outside - not very energy efficient.   We put the empty bottles back there for him to take away.

Barbara, never did that but it sounds great.

HappyLibby, we didn't have a bakery man but there was a guy who delivered all kinds of foods, seems like it was called Jewel, but we didn't get anything from him our neighbor did and I really don't remember.

I'm up - Otter, you are welcome to come and house sit while we are away. You'd have to be here by the 11th August though. Unfortunatley, we're not on the beach, but only 1 hour away

OT .. I'm so excited, I just got my passport card in the mail.  And surprisingly the picture isn't too bad.  It's a cute little card and looks a lot like a driver's license.

Yay!  I'm ready to go to Canada now.  I wish it was tomorrow instead of a couple of weeks away.

You've all got me thinking of when I was VERY young.  We lived in a large house, right on the beach in CT.  We had a "proper" fridge, but we also had an icebox!  And I remember so loving the day the nice man delivered that HUGE square chunk of ice, which he carried into the room off the kitchen where the icebox was using the LARGEST silver colored metal tongs I've ever seen in my life.  And, I can also remember following him back to his truck, where he'd "chip off" a big ( well, it seemed big to me) of ice and I could play with in, likck it like an ice pop, put it on my head, and generally have a lot of fun.  MIss those easy days...

I'm so sorry to see you go, but completely understand how you feel. The environment gets toxic here and in some cases there is nothing but ill will, frankly. I deleted all of my post from one thread just now because I want to disassociate myself from it, even though it was started as a great idea with some good resources. It got run over, as so many threads have. It happens like an avalanche.

I hope you eventually come back, and that you continue to read. As a breast cancer patient, you need support and validation.

I can so empathsize with how your feel.  that's why I left a few years ago.  Now, I've learned to THRIVE with the ignore button.  AND, I do think that Dr. Weiss, will have to WAKE UP and start a Forum for COmplementary and Integrative Healing - leaving the Alternatives to their own corrall.

I'm reading AntiCancer: A New Way of Life, by David Servan-Schreiber, and I think more & more people will be looking for what we're all looking for.  I'm so concerned, that those looking for that information will be so terrified by what they might come upon the way the Forum is now, that I've written to many ( and I mean MANY) I've told about BC.org as a resource, and what is happening to it now - and that includes the people at Dana Farber I speak with often too.

I feel that you are a valuable resource with a lot to offer but apparently some people can not handle those who disagree with them. Their lives are in their own hands but to have some of the things that were posted on a site run by a radiation oncologist was just beyond belief.

We are all guests here and if people find this site weighted too heavily toward conventional treatment, they should post where there are like minds. IMHO

Britchick sorry to see you go. 

Do understand your point---I am past active treatment and find I am here less and less---seems like we get rid of one type of negativity and mean spiritedness only to have another crop up. What makes it still work for me is my close and fuzzy relationship with the ignore button.  I apply it liberally and you know, it really works!!!!!  Something to think about!

Hope you are enjoying todays weather in Seattle--wasn't the fog this am odd?
