Linda, glad the soap is working for you.  I was helping my mom make her bed the other day and came across a lump.  She says "Oh that's my bar of soap." I had completely forgotten as my cramps eased considerably when I quit tamoxifen.

However....my condolences for the RLS.  I had that as a result of the stemetil (anti nausea med) when on FEC.  It was awful.  I used to make fun of the ads on TV.  Not any more.  Sorry I have no remedies for that!Cry

Alpal, I heard that on last night's news, too.  Good grief!!!  Glad to hear it's overcast there today -- that should help.  OTOH, we have sunny skies today, and it already feels like I'm walking into a steam room when I open the door.  The local amphibians are loving it, though -- they think they're in a jungle.  The tree frogs are singing like it's mid-March instead of mid-July.

Anyway, Kentucky is not first in obesity -- you're not even in the top 5 this year, according to the CDC.  Mississippi is first, and has been for half a dozen years, according to some reports that came out this summer -- e.g., http://calorielab.com/news/2011/06/30/fattest-states-2011/ and http://yourlife.usatoday.com/fitness-food/diet-nutrition/story/2011/07/State-by-state-obesity-rates/49188748/1

Why is there such a high prevalence of obesity in the Southern states?  Hmmm... (otter wonders, as she contemplates not going outside at all today because of the heat and humidity)... let's see.

Could it be because people in the Southern states have the highest level of physical inactivity? (the darker the color, the higher the percentage of people who are "physically inactive" during leisure time:  http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/DDT_STRS2/NationalDiabetesPrevalenceEstimates.aspx?mode=PHY):

There are lots of other hypotheses worth considering, but I've decided to get out of my recliner and walk to the kitchen for another cup of coffee.

[Edited to add:  I see lindasa and I were both thinking the same direction:  physical activity!]

Makes me very angry that someone so incredibly rude and bullying should accuse others of bullying to the point of inducing suicide. Irresponsible and offensive. Then you have others drawing false equivalents suggesting that everyone is responsible.

Thanks for listening to rant. Tongue out

That was a shocker to me. Doesn't make any sense at all. I'm quite sure that Lex. is the least sedentary place in the whole state. Very bike friendly, lots of walking paths, etc. Of course, it could still be more sedentary than anyplace else! That was according to Mens' Health Mag. or something like that. Someone said it was based on gym memberships. Not a good predictor, IMO.

It made me glad that I no longer live in Owensboro!  However, we were at 116 heat ratio yesterday.  We never got that cool down that Louisville received, but at least we are only supposed to hit 90 today.  The broiler weather returns on Saturday, just in time for Owensboro's horse show.  Some things never change!

For just a nano second, I was tempted to take the ignore status off the people who played with too much crazy glue, and go view the train wreck, but ...... nah!

Different kind of rant, mini-one, O/T.  Remember that I was disturbed that my onc seemed pretty unexcited about my recurrence?  Well, my internist just called -- he got a letter from the breast surgeon about it.  He was WILD!  His voice was quivering!  He is terribly, terribly upset -- he kept saying, 'How did this happen when we did everything -- EVERYTHING! -- right? This sucks!  This sucks REALLY BIG!"  and when I told him I was going to have a BMX and ooph, he said, 'I think you are so cool!  I think this is brave and huge and the right thing to do -- and I think you are so cool.  I'm jumping up and down in agreement with you!"  So, whatever I need for presurgery, he's there ... and he gave me the name of an onc he works with.  He knows mine, and was pretty disgusted that he wasn't more upset.  HAH!  It WASN'T just me!!

    rant/off

Otter - you mean they've even taken that away from us? Actually, I'm not sure at all about the teen pregnancy, but we used to up at the top. We have come a long way in education in the last 10 or 15 years. That used to always be a race with Mississippi - but it was termed as"last" not "first".

Thanks for the rant, ROAR, I find it really mean to try to "guilt" people into changing their own beliefs and false equivalents is such a polite way to put it.  Darn Wrong is nearer to my thinking.  I can not and will not be responsible for someone's paranoia.

However, on to more important things, MA is one of the "thinnest" states, wonder if I'll have to move?

When I moved to Kentucky from Calgary, I was absolutely amazed at the "pigs to the trough" mentality.  So many of the restaurants are buffets brimming with all things fried.  Heart attack on a plate!  When we lived in Owensboro, it was almost impossible to find anything to roast without asking the butcher to special cut something.  Everything was designed to be fried.  It has been 20 years and things have improved, but definitely not to the level it should be.  We were at IHOP the other morning as my son came for a visit, and I asked Ed where Bob and Jillian ("The Biggest Loser") are when we need them, there were two young men across the room that must have weighed 400 lbs each.  I would have thought Western Kentucky had Eastern Kentucky beat on being sedentary, and in unhealthy eating habits.

    HappyLibby,

THAT IS SO WONDERFUL.  I know how good it feels when you can feel that your doc is really in your corner, has your back.  Your onc must be so jaded, whatever, from whatever he/she has seen. Sad.  But SO GOOD to know you have someone who understands - and will be supportive of your BRAVE, BRAVE choices.  Really think, tho know the surgery & stuff is well, more than awful, that youare going to feel and BE so much happier aftere it is done.

    HappyLibby - that's wonderful!

I think because oncs deal with all stages of cancer, some may get a bit jaded. That's great that you have a PCP who stood up for you. I wish I had had a caring PCP when I needed one.

So I guess you are not going to see the onc on the 14th?

    Otter/Alpal:

Physical inactivity/over suburbanized with little or no public transportation and pedestrian walkways/too many fast food/junk food places and not enough grocery stores. Also, lower income/education levels correlate with obesity- there is plenty of poverty in MS, God knows.

I knew my PCP was awesome -- I've actually been with him longer than I've been with DH!  He is amazing and wonderful and I can absolutely rely on him for anything because we are a team.  I thought it was over-the-top great when he said he thought I was cool!

No, Athena, I won't be going to the onc on the 14th.  My gyn's office had gotten that appointment moved up to the 7th, and at the end of the appointment, he said, 'Well, get through all your surgery and reconstruction and then make an appointment and we will talk."  Uh -- I don't think so!  Tongue out

Happy .. great news from your doctor .. I'm so glad he is on-board with your decision and being supportive of you.  Hope he finds you a great new onc!

We have a high poverty rate where I live .. and I see lots and lots of fat people at Walmart.  Don't know if it's because of the area or just because it's a walmart.

I'm amazed in the south that at some restaurants, macaroni and cheese is considered a vegetable. I love my mac-n-cheese as much as the next person, but where does the "vegetable" come in?

I also had deep fried pickles for the first time a couple of weeks ago in Nashville. I suppose that could be counted as a vegetable serving, right? Pickles are made from cucumbers, after all.

Deep fried pickles are very popular in the south, especially AL. I had them in BHam  with fried catfish. I ate salad for a week after that trip.

Anybody tried a deep fried Twinkie?  I heard of them, but would not try anything so unhealthy.  Am I missing anything?

I had deep fried soft shell crabs when I was in Destin, Florida a couple of weeks ago. You eat the shell and all in a yummy deep fried crust. My mouth is watering as I'm typing this.

I have been on salads and lean meats since my return from the south.
