Barbara, the latest of 4 for now.  After the April 27 tornadoes the entire northern half of Alabama was without power several days. No computers to make change. Checking out at a convenience store with 2 items, was a 30 minute deal. Don't want to go back to the "good old days".

Heading out to work. Cloudy and  looking for a humid 88 degrees today.

Sorry, Athena ... no sighs of relief to be had.  I have a new area of DCIS, Gr 2/3, ER+, meaning tamoxifen failed me.  The spot was tiny -- 3mm -- and was likely removed by the stereotactic bx.  However, that means I start back on the merry-go-round all over again - minus rads, since they failed me too.  MRI scheduled for Monday, Gyn for Thursday, med onco July 14 since he is out of town.  Gotta find a new surgeon since mine is now teaching in Saudi Arabia (come baaaaaaack!!!!).  I'm OK -- actually quite relieved it wasn't invasive, as I thought.

No lump, just mammo.  Use this experience to beat your female relatives and friends over the head with the fact that one good mammo (or 20 good mammos) doesn't mean you can skip.  I don't skip -- this grew in a year.  Thank God for OCD radiologists!

Thanks for your support, folks -- It means a lot to talk to people who know the drill.

    XOXO

BN was what was being hoped for, for you,  - but if you couldn't get that one, DCIS and 3mm is an understandable relief.  Still frightening - and another but, you have very good options to deal with this, and that's really something to be grateful for!  The C in DCIS still stands for the Beast, but in a very "attackable" stage.  So sorry you have to be dealing with all this, and thank you for reminding us to Beat our Friends over the head re:mammograms.

I'm so sorry!  You obviously have very careful doctors - DCIS 3 mm - good for them for catching it (and you for keeping up with apppointments).

I was happy with my surgeon and would be happy to give you his name. Let me know via PM if you are interested.

Thanks, all.  As you know, going through this (for the first time or again!) is so much easier when friends have your back.  Treatment plan should form up next week and I'll keep you posted.

    Thank you!

Darn Libby ... was hoping for different news.

So ... now on to the plan and getting the whole thing over with.  We're here to do anything we can to help ... or just to listen if you want to scream, holler, yell, bitch, moan, groan or even cuss a little.  Or a lot ... go ahead and get creative.

    (((hugs)))

Dammit Libby .. that's not the news I wanted to hear.  I'm glad it was caught early, but so sorry it came back at all.  Sounds like you've got your ducks lined up and then you can get a plan of action.

It scares me that yours came back within a year of your last mammo.  But it's encouraging that mammo caught it both times.

    hugs dear friend,

    Bren

About plans of action, not to take focus from Libby dear but I figure you are all the best to ask.  I have a chance to enroll in a long term care program without passing a mega physical.  I can't figure out what to do--enroll or pass.

Its a not insubstantial sum of money per month but as I understand it, it will be cheaper now than when I am older still.

Does anyone have such plan?  any thoughts on what to look for?  Or should DH and I just agree to shove a pillow over each others faces?  Sigh, all these things I never thought of before. . . .

Oh, 3m -- yes, do it.  Enroll.  I enrolled the year after my first dx, after I attended a retirement seminar.  The guy who was talking about LTCare told us his personal experience:  He is older than his wife.  She works for the largest LTC provider in CT.  They were going to get his first, then hers -- each of them when they were 55.  And then she was DX with MS at 45, and rendered instantly uninsurable.  So -- I trotted off and got the insurance.  I was a year past DX -- a year past surgery -- and I went through full underwriting.  With DCIS, not in active treatment (except tamox), I was approved.  I was 51. I have 5 year/inflation protection/90 day waiting and it costs about $1300/year.

So ... you can probably afford to wait a little and go through underwriting, since I don't think your DCIS will disqualify you.  Or if it makes you more comfortable to be insured (it did me), go for it.  DH elected not to go for it this time -- he's only 48 and believes he will be able to get it in due course.

    Just my experience.

And thanks, Athena and Ang -- I may consider posting more .... glad you like having me around!  Wink

Libby that is kind of where I am.  I have healthy genes --well at least I thought I did until the stupid breast cancerbut then I wonder what the future will bring.  What if my breast cancer comes back and I find myself somewhere besides DCIS.

As the financial engine of the family, I have to consider making sure things go on if something happens to me. . . .

blech.  hate looking at all the forms. . . .

oh and I'm glad you are here too.

(((((((Libby)))))))  The only -- and I repeat, only -- bright spot about a recurrence is that you've been through it before, and now you know what to expect.   Am sure you're planning everything out very carefully, and I know you'll handle this with your usual grace and good humour.  We're all in your corner, sweetie!

And good for you dealing with the LTC issue.  I knew you were smart, and now I know just how smart you are!

    More hugs,   Linda

Thank you all for your kind words and support and hugs.  Much healthier for me than drowning myself in a tub of Breyer's Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, assuming I had any.  Fortunately, the Trader Joe's cranberry oatmeal dunkers are all gone now .. Cool

The bright spot in having a recurrence is that I have you all at my back.

    XOXO

Nah, I'm pretty practical -- I'm still in the basement organizing files, so I just stuffed another tissue in my bra.  I'll go upstairs shortly and find the butterfly bandages -- both cars are out front and the household kit is in the linen closet!  Kiss
