Pardon my utter stupidity on the subject of tornados, but isn't this the wrong season for them? I had it in my head that tornado "season" was late summer/fall. Or is that hurricanes?
-
GG- I heard, this morning, that tornado season actually starts tomorrow or next week...one or the other.
-
Global warming is alive and well......and snow is part of it. My "learned" conservatives should read up on it! And it's already too late for us. We have crossed over the safe line.

Oklahoma Senator Won’t Support Tornado Relief Without Budget Cuts

A sampling: (sorry for the language)
Gary Cook You were elected by the same people who desperately need your help right now. Real Americans don't see red and blue states when disasters strike. We only see the United States!
You are being tested right now and you are failing miserably as a senator and a human being. Fucking piece of garbage!

Travis Pütz You're a despicable human being. Insisting on spending cuts BEFORE any relief?
To hell with you sir, and enjoy the weather!
Candace Baitz You may as well been with the looters last night digging through the rubble of what remains of people's lives. All in the name of your personal gain while parents look for their missing children. We are ashamed and I will make sure everyone I know remembers this in the next coming election. Or better yet we could cut some funding real quick with your job and your pension!

Neil Blaisdell Your thoughts and prayers are worthless.
Mike Wilson You are quite literally threatening the well being of American lives by playing politics. Anyone who is threatening American lives should be considered a terrorist and an enemy to the American people. You are the enemy. Americans will not stand for this. You disgust us all. Also, go to hell asshole.

Jamie Lynn You are a pathetic excuse for a Christian, let alone a human being. How could you possibly block relief for people who so desperately need it. Of course, with your cushy senate salary and pension that you and your colleagues have continued to increase for yourselves (must be nice to give yourselves raises when the rest of the country is in the toilet), YOU would have the means to rebuild if this happened to you. Go jump off a damned bridge. You disgust me.

Tornadoes are a spring/summer weather event, although they do happen in winter (more increasingly now with climate change). They are spawned from thunderstorms with air currents that begin to rotate. I'm originally from Dayton, Ohio and I remember tornado drills and the air raid sirens going off and running to the basement. I remember the one that obliterated Xenia, Ohio (near Dayton) on April 4, 1974. It just leveled the town. We saw it come down out of the clouds -- I've seen several but never been in one.
Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30. I was in a Category 5 in Jamaica (Hurricane Gilbert) in September 1988. Even though Gilbert was very destructive, if I had to pick which storm I had to be in, I would pick a hurricane. Tornadoes are like TNT!

Kam.....soooo many people should be reading those entries. Most people's instinct when something happens is to hold out their hand to help............these people like this Senator are frightening.
Blue...you are right on.

OK. I must have been thinking of hurricanes.

BTW, here is a picture of our "new" house (if it passes inspections....) It needs some work, but not a massive amount - new flooring throughout, a deck, landscaping, and I'm hoping for a bathroom remodel - but not too sure about that yet....

-
-
GG...nice bungalow. They are so hard to find up here. But we did. I will try to post a pic too.
-
Very nice GG!
-
GG -- It looks like a lovely house to come home to! Hope it's in good health (passes inspection!).
-
As long as these legs hold out, I won't think of moving, but a bungalow would be ideal for Mr. Parkinson's who has a firm grip on my body.
-
Blue..I can't wait for the bungalow. The basement is finished too, but it will be nice to have everything on one floor. I'm not getting any younger you know!

-
My DD just called. They are taking me out to dinner for my BD to celebrate my getting older. They just can't accept that I stopped having birthdays 10 years ago! Must be daft or just insane like their mom. I hear things like that run in the family!
-
Pip you looked pretty fit to me when I last met you!
-
Just take the celebratory offerings and smile. It will make them happy. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (I should have known you were a Taurus too!)
-
LOL! With a mix of Gemini!
To brighten our day!

And about climate change: idiots like Sparklemoose and all her fundie followers who are expecting the "Rapture" couldn't give two hoots about Mother Earth, so it's deny, deny, deny. Anyone in the oil and gas industries -- and of course all the related industries -- couldn't give a rat's patootie about climate change because then they'd have to do something about it and that would cut into their profits.
So...who are we left with? The folks who suffer through devastating ice storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and hundred-thousand-acre forest fires....oh, and the 97% of eco-scientists and their fellow researchers who might as well be talking into the wind, not to mention all the law-abiding taxpayers who support disaster relief.
And just a thought: if the San Andreas fault decides to split further apart, would Senators like Coburn and Inhofe tell those folks in California "Too bad, so sad; no relief for you unless we cut unnecessary expenditures like, say, medicaid, medicare, food stamps etc."
Makes me want to throw up! There's been a fair amount of America/fundie creep coming across the border and it's frightening.
-
Linda, but we're Canadians and don't have the right to say anything.
-
His Republican constituents will celebrate him as a man of principle and then re-elect him, because they'll get the aid regardless of Coburn's stance. Coburn knows that, which is the only reason he feels comfortable doing it. If his vote was the deciding one, he'd give the aid in a heartbeat.
-
Another trickster! How sad!
-
Canadian? You're also American!
-

Major BURN!
-
Enjoyful: That's NORTH American to you, hon! Let's get it right
.And Blue: I, you and everyone else on this planet have the right to say anything we want to! Ain't nobody gonna tell us to shut the h*ll up
! -
North American to the US, too!
-

Happy Birthday Blue!
Hope you're having a fabulous day. Sure wish we could see each other again this summer. BTW ... I thought PIP looked great when I saw her too!
love ya buddy,
Bren
-
When I was a kid I'd get so upset when people would refer to citizens of the U.S. as Americans, as if no other country was the home of Americans and totally forgetting that both North and South America are also home to Americans. As I got older I found other things to get PO'd about.... but still - Americans fill an entire hemisphere, not just one country!! We probably should have named ourselves Staters or something...

-
Happy Birthday, Blue!!
