I like McQueen, but if Sarah Burton keeps using masks on her models and creates one more non wearable collection again I shall scream. Off to a meeting, but I will show you what I mean when I get back.

That picture was posted on another board, and somebody said "no wonder he (Boehner) drinks!" YIKES, what a mean looking prune! Maybe it wasn't even directed at the Pres. Could just be a perpetual scowl, etched on her face through the years.

And I am so grateful and happy that sanity won out this election, and we have our wonderful President and First Lady back in their respective saddles!

I haven't followed Sarah Burton all that carefully, but remember the masks and other less than great stuff. But I thought McQueen himself was extremely talented and another masterful cutter and draper.

For Momine - here is Sarah Burton's runway horror story. Again, she is incredibly talented BUT call me square and boring - I prefer to see clothes I can wear. Not costumes.

ETA: Yes, McQueen himself was a master. Sadly, he committed suicide about 5 years ago, so Burton stepped up as the creative director.

SS 12 - Ready to Wear - this has to be the most ridiculous look in what was a fairly ridiculous collection:

This was the closer for the Fall/Winter RTW 2012 collection:

    SS 2013:

"Athena" - who is very happily wearing long grey pants, a white polo neck sweater and a green cardigan over it!

Yorkie, the "real" side they numbed up but good, and I didn't feel a thing (until the numbing wore off and then I hurt a lot!!!).  The reconstructed side they didn't numb, and I felt it, but about four inches away.  They gave me this goop to put on - they said once a day, but I'm doing twice - but the stuff burns so bad - for about 20 minutes - that I REALLY don't want to put it on.  What did they give you?  I'll go buy it instead!!!   Also, did they have you put pads on, or anything or nothing???

Those are UGLY UGLY "dresses"!!!!  (the dogs, however, are totally cute) :)

GG, here's what happened to me. I had my bc side kind of rearranged to make it more of a cone. The "good" side was reduced and lifted. It took me longer to recover from the lifted side than the bc side. The PS built a nipple on the bc side during that surgery.

Eventually I was ready for a tattoo on the bc side (didn't need one on the good side). I wish I still had my instructions but I threw them out after it was all over. BUT, nothing I put on ever hurt at all. It was just soap and Aquafor, which I also used during radiation. You can get Aquafor over the counter at CVS, Wallgreens, and probably most drug stores. You shouldn't be hurting over this!

    (((Glenna)))  Good luck at chemo!

(((gardengumby)))  I hope the burning and pain eases soon! (I used Aquaphor, too, during radiation).

Some good news on the job front.  The GE I already knew about because a plant here is involved and staying open rather than moving as had been planned.  The Ford stuff I hadn't heard about.

    http://autos.aol.com/article/ford-bringing-jobs-back-to-the-u-s-at-its-fusion-plant/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl10%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D260641

"Production of the new Fusion, built in Hermosillo, Mexico, for the past six years is moving in a few months to Flat Rock, Mich., to a plant jointly owned by Ford and Mazda. Because Ford plans to build so many vehicles at the plant, it took over 100% of the production lines and hired an additional 1,200 workers at the facility, which is about 25 miles south of Detroit. Ford also builds the Mustang at the plant, and plans to move the next generation design of the Taurus and Lincoln MKS sedans there as well."

Brrrrr ... cold here.  But I just read about below zero on the east coast so maybe we don't have it so bad afterall.

As for the 'costumes' ... what can you even say about stuff like that Surprised

GG, I forgot to answer about the pads. Yes, I had one on for awhile. I didn't do anything until it was time to take it off. Sorry, wish I could remember better. Darn, Aromasin brain! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Lilah just loves him now and gives as much as she gets!  Little brat will pull her facial hair and ears with those razor sharp teeth, but she gives him bum butts and knocks him over.  Hilarious!

Yorkie, the reconstructed side, though I feel some burning is totally within my now completely dissolved "pain threshholds". Unfortunately, when my "good" side was lifted, the coloring in my aereola completely faded away (according to my PS that's not too totally weird.) Anyway, he said (and like a fool I believed him) that it would be "better" to do both sides. Better for whom, I now ask, as it's CERTAINLY not better for me! Oh well, after everything else, this too shall pass.

GG, my "good" side aereola also faded after surgery. The PS didn't mention tattooing it. The bc side has kind of faded now, so they sort of match now. Nothing looks totally natural, but it's a lot better than after the lumpectomy. Yes, "this too shall pass" is now my mantra.

My PS kept going on about how he could do this or do that o "improve" things. I said that I was happy and that I couldn't imagine ever wanting anyone to cut on me ever again!

That's my feeling too. Yeah, I think the bc side could be rearranged a little better. The tattoo on that side is too big relative to the now smaller aereola on the good side. But I do not want any more surgeries, knock on wood.

Just checking in to say hi.  I'm the cook for tonight's dinner so I can't stay too long.  Hoping the Aquafor or whatever gets used does its job.

Can't recall who said it, but maybe Mrs. B is something of a grump.  I think I'd learn now to un-grump were it me.  It is not too flattering ( maybe she doesn't look )  to be seen as someone who might rain on the parade at any second.  It takes all kinds, and though the first lady really sparkles.....I think it is even more so when you can't evoke a least a half-hearted smile at some point.....but hopefully Mrs. B did.

    Mr. B is being a bit un-flattering today....ho-hum.

    See you all later.

    Jackie

p.s.  my spell checker decided to stick around   sigh !!!! never know when it wil behave.

The Pentagon is lifing the ban on women in combat:

Pentagon Lifting Ban on Women in Combat

By ELISABETH BUMILLER and THOM SHANKER

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta is lifting the military’s ban on women in combat, which will open up hundreds of thousands of additional front-line jobs to them, senior defense officials said on Wednesday.

The groundbreaking decision overturns a 1994 Pentagon rule that restricts women from artillery, armor, infantry and other such combat roles, even though in reality women have found themselves in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, where more than 20,000 have served. As of last year, more than 800 women had been wounded in the two wars and more than 130 had died.

Defense officials offered few details about Mr. Panetta’s decision but described it as the beginning of a process to allow the branches of the military to put it into effect. Defense officials said Mr. Panetta had made the decision on the recommendation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Women have long chafed under the combat restrictions and have increasingly pressured the Pentagon to catch up with the reality on the battlefield. The move comes as Mr. Panetta is about to step down from his post and would leave him with a substantial legacy after only 18 months in the job.

Mr. Panetta’s decision came after he received a Jan. 9 letter from Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who stated in strong terms that the armed service chiefs all agreed that “the time has come to rescind the direct combat exclusion rule for women and to eliminate all unnecessary gender-based barriers to service.”

But there was a note of caution. “To implement these initiatives successfully and without sacrificing our war fighting capability or the trust of the American people, we will need time to get it right,” General Dempsey wrote.

A copy of General Dempsey’s letter was provided by a Pentagon official under the condition of anonymity.

The letter noted that this action was meant to ensure that women as well as men “are given the opportunity to succeed.”

As recently as two months ago, four servicewomen filed a federal lawsuit against the Pentagon challenging its combat restriction, saying they had all served in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan but had not been officially recognized for it. One of the women, Maj. Mary Jennings Hegar, an Air National Guard helicopter pilot, was shot down, returned fire and was wounded while on the ground in Afghanistan, but said she could not seek combat leadership positions because the Defense Department did not officially acknowledge her experience as combat.
