I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

I had a boyfriend for 3 years who was Muslim and a refugee from Iran. About as religious as some Christians who only go to church at Christmas and Easter. He treated me like the goddess I am. And our Muslim friends really weren't any different from our non-Muslim friends. And yes, they abhorred the abuses of women. So you can't paint all of one group by the acts of a few.
And, no this is not meant as, nor to be interpreted as, a negative comment to non-Iranian, non-Muslim people.
Edit: And he cooked for me since I'm useless in the kitchen.
Another edit: And he didn't care that I was an atheist. Wow, how tolerant is that?!?

For what it is worth...my PS is Iraqui. Just like I trusted the Irish BS and my German primary. The Italian anesthesiologist and let's not forget my Chinese acupuncturist or my Jewish dentist. And my Puerto Rican (1st one) and Indian (2nd one) oncologists. Oh yeah, and my Hungarian mother. I did not poll each as to the religous persuasion or lack thereof ('Cept for Mom, as she is a Catholic to her sweet core). It is apparently taking a village of the world's people to heal me.Thank god. Mine and the one (s) that they each worship.

Shirley: I have already made my feelings clear to Melissa as to what I think this bco forum should be about and she hasn't banned me yet so I think she is fine with the things we discuss as long as we do it in a "friendly", peaceful way. I notice from time to time certain posters come on here and try to turn our posts into something they are not maybe hopefully to get us angry and we end up posting in a way that forces Melissa to delete and/or ban us. They seem to change IDs but I would give a share of my delicious banana cream pie to show it is probably the same people popping in and out just to stir up the pot and add some unwanted chili peppers to it.
I do hope the "regular" ladies on this thread will not fall prey to these people and end up being a part in getting us deleted. I find no real "bashing" going on in this thread lately. I think that must be a big disappointment to some who would prefere to see us do these things but I hope those days are long gone. Ladies, I do hope you will continue to play it cool and not give those who, IMO, are not our friends, an excuse to tattle to Melissa and show her any posts which are not within the bounds of what we are allowed to do. Thank you for your cooperation and help in keeping this thread alive. Have a good night!
-
Medigal:
I figured this out three weekends ago - there are people getting on here to "bait" they are pretty easy to spot they show up late Friday or early Saturday get some deletes then disappear until next time - I have my own ideas who they are and I think most of us do.
Shirley:
As for Christian bashing why would any of us do that - probably most of the women on this site are Christians but that said most of us don't bash any faith, religion or nationality - I like to think we're way more tolerant and educated than that
-
I don't put a lot of credence in this poor us bashing. The poor loves show their true colours on the site that shall not be named.
-
People who make all sorts of allegations against others but never give one specific example to support their claims are engaging in trollish behavior and their comments should be ignored until they come up with specific examples.
-
208sandy, It's good to have someone else around with mental telepathy.
-
KK...I think you are right. I have popped in there a couple of times and they do get themselves worked up about a lot of us here. I think they sometimes get who is bashing who mixed up. It was a big disappointment for me to find women who I had admired, even though I may not have agreed with them, stoop to such junior high tactics.
-
Ditto PIP.......I'm truly disappointed.
-
I can assure all, I have no mental telepathy but there are a few relatively obvious consistencies.
A few posters consistently use phrases like "all of you", "you on the left/right" whatever, "we won", "you lost". They call into question the group's intelligence, compassion, and education. They throw around challenges to be specific yet are never specific.
I have to agree that what some might label as "liberal" are usually the ones to get deleted. By their own nature they are targets. They probably are not the deleters because they are more liberal than some and would naturally be more "liberal" in their actions as well as their political views.
Yes, they do come in, stir and probably sit back and watch the fire works. It may be like "poking a snake" but for those who may fall into this category, please be careful. Snakes can be dangerous and if one is not careful, one may get bitten.
I don't comment or respond to posts that I believe to be of that nature. Those individuals are not here to "educate us" out of love and concern but out of a need to impose their ideas and wills on others. If I need education, I am quite capable of persuing that on my own. I am not dependent on other members of this board to do it. I appreciate the opinions of both sides and those who post a link to further back up their ideas or provide background for those who choose to read the links.
One member, I believe BinVa, ended a previous post with the simple words, "be nice". It's difficult to do sometimes when someone comes on here and figuratively pokes their finger in your face, but we're all "liberal" enough to try.
FYI I consider myself to be independent as far as politics is concerned. That's not to say the independent party would have me, that's to say, I wouldn't have the democrats or the republicans.
-
Ladies: THIS is a night to celebrate! I think the "snake" did bite tonight but it wasn't us who got bitten. I had no idea so many of you were in on where the problem is originating from. We can now have new hope to keep our thread going and make Melissa's job easier. I will be retiring now and thank you for making it a "good" night.

The Tea Party movement is one of the most interesting political movements in the past 100 years. Although the general press as well as partisan publications would like us to believe that the Tea Party is a monolithic organization, it is far from that. Ron Paul just won the presidential straw poll at the CPAC convention. Ron Paul is the leader of the Libertarian Party. Romney, a very conventional moderate Republican came in second. No one else was even out of the single digits.
MoveOn.org is becoming increasingly influential among Democrats. Just like the Tea Party, the old time political power is a bit worried about the progressive influence of this grass roots organization.
I think the Internet has a lot to do with these types of movements and I think it is a good thing. I recommend that people of all political persuasions work hard to keep the Internet as free wheeling and accessible as it is today. There is nothing that the corporate and entrenched political interests would like more, than to price access out of the financial range of the average American. They have a million excuses on why some should pay more than others but we cannot forget that the Internet was started as a security tool by the United States government and the backbone it runs on was built by our government and given to colleges and universities free of charge. The net is a public service and should never be allowed to fall under the control of corporations. Support Net Neutrality.

Yep Medigal, we all have nicnames. What a hoot!

Net Neutrality to all!!!

Here is a real victory for people, parents, women and girls. Truly good news.

Lurking on this thread is highly entertaining.

Hear hear, Kadeeb!
Mum, you should lurk no longer. Join in.
Morning folks. Glad we didn't get deleted in the dark of the night! Good on all of us for not falling for the the deleter's ploy.

BarbaraA - How is your brother progressing? Hope it is good.
-
Morning everyone:
Glad we're still up and running. Barbara - how's your brother doing?
Sandy

Thanks for asking, gals. Took mom to see him yesterday. That is a production as she has COPD (and refuses to quit smoking. I mean she is 81 so whatever). The nurse brought him up from the sedation and the respiratory therapist came and took him off the ventilator assist. So he breathed on his own the whole time we were there (and several hours after). He knew we were there and grabbed our hands and squeezed. I think he has the hots for his nurse. Anyway, we left after an hour. I called the nurse before she went off at 7 and she said he got very tired so they put him back on at 40%. So it is a process to get weaned and he is slowly but surely doing it. He REALLY wants the tube OUT! His nurse explained that she was taking the restraints off but he could NOT pull at any tubes and he gets that so he is happy about that. Man, what a process.
-
Morning Sandy, looks like others are sleeping in or haven't had time to check in yet.

Morning Sandy and Barbara and Kadeeb!
Mum .. it's good to be entertained! And we aim to please .. I think that's why this thread has so many lurkers .. we provide a nice break from our day to day stuff, and fun reading!
Hope all have a good day!

My DH was diabetic as well and I think that must have something to do with the difficulty in weaning but sounds like your brother is progressing well - I know he hates the tube, poor thing, but he's getting the best care there is - ICU nurses are the BEST (I have two good friends who do that for a living and both are young mothers who work 12 hour shifts). Keeping everything crossed.
Hugs, Sandy

Whew, just catching up after about 12 hours away!
notself, do you consider THE ATLANTIC to be a conservative magazine? I'd better rescind my subscription then. No right-wing mags in MY house! Regardless of lean, I think there are some great articles in it. But I do think it's pretty liberal.
The venom on the "site that shall not be named" is pure poison. I felt dirty for a week after I looked at it. Never again.
Everyone have a great Sunday. I'm thinking about roasted brussel sprouts for supper tonight!
-
Thanks, Sandy. Morning Bren!
Getting ready to head out to see the bro. Man, I am getting tired with all this running around. After taking mom to see Dave, I took her grocery shopping and that about dropped me. I had nothing left in me to go see DH's band playing (plus it went down to 39 last night and they were playing outside). They are playing outside today, too, from 2-7:30. I usually go around 4:30 and stay til the end but today, I am going early and leaving around 5. I don't need to get sick right now.
-
ok..you got me...what in the heck is the site that will not be named? will someone PM me so I can go check it out...curious is my middle name:)
BarbaraH- stop right now and pause...remember to exhale and take a break-jump in the tub, forgo the band if need be.... as you cannot afford to become ill...got it?! <geez, I am bossy:)
-
Morning Ladies. Hang in there Barbara with your bro. Nothing lasts forever and hopefully before long this will be a part of the past and you can get your strength back from trying to help him.
Annettek: Take some Mylanta once you find out the name of that so called "site". It may be harder to swallow than my pickled pigs feet! However, I am so happy this morning we didn't fall into their trap and our thread is still alive and well.
Blue: I think nicknames are great and no one has a better sense of humor than I do. However, when they are used to "mock" people and one is being mocked by those you "thought" were your friends, that is a different story. Maybe you might want to give Annettek the name of the thread we are referring to so she can see for herself what is going on. Thanks! Have a nice day!
-
good morning!
barbara, I'm glad to hear that your brother's condition is improving ---know what you mean about mothers and smoking. my mom is in her 80s and has mega heart issues. she was supposed to quit smoking and claims that she has but I can hearing her inhaling on the phone when I call [after all these years, its a pretty easy sound to id]. But like you said, she's 80---what is one to do?
as far as the "site that shall not be named" I went and took a look. sheesh. Having already lived through both 6th grade and middle school, I see no reason to experience it once more and no need to read the site again. If stress and negativity did play a role in my having stupidbreastcancer, then I have an obligation to my monsters to reduce those things, not seek them out.
I find it is truly amazing what one can access on-line. In my youth one had to have a subscription to get news and I did have a subscription to the Christian Science Monitor which I really enjoyed. Now we no longer get a daily paper--haven't for years as they stacked up and didn't get read but we read the NYT on line and my local paper and also Bloomberg which is not just business news. We get the Wall Street Journal at work and I try to take a look a few times a week but it depends on my schedule. I get my international perspective by reading the BBC website and also Aljazeer.
-
My MT isn't working this morning. Will someone plese tell me the time and place so I can do a drive by the wreck?
-
Good morning, everyone!
Barbara, I hope your brother is better today.
I know that everyone is curious, but honestly, rethink visiting. It is akin to thinking you are going to be jumping in a clear blue lake, and then realizing you have jumped into a toxic sludge. You will need several showers to get the guck off.
I hope everyone has a great day!! I am off for brunch with DH and some friends.
