I just don't see how this can be as close a race as it appears to be. I've lost some faith in my fellow Americans. Frown

Mary, don't give up now. We need to keep the faith that sanity will win out. The lies are only working on a few.

Mary - it isn't - just keep reading Nate Silver @ 538, and watch the polls for the KEY swing states:

Ohio, Virginia, Nevada, Colorado, New Hampshire

Really - it's ALL ABOUT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE, at this time, it does NOT MATTER who wins the "popular" vote, and those national polls are all over the place.  The "media" WANTS A STORY - so the first made up story was of "mittmomentum" NOT TRUE - really.  Rasmussen ( major polling) is run by Republicans ( regressives) and Gallop was SO wrong in 2008, and really an outlier now.

Just keep your eye on the STATE polls of those 5 states.  And, as someone famous once said "chill, I've got this."Laughing

How much do you want to bet the electoral college gets eliminated for the next election if Mitt wins the popular vote?

Paula and scoot, thinking about you both as you recover from your surgeries. Hope the storm isn't as bad as they are anticipating since I may end up stuck in Boston. I just need to be home in time to vote!

Mary I'm going to vote and I will never, never, never give up, and I find with the Regressives that the more they whine and cry and pout and say things like our Pres. has not done good things ( all with his hands tied behind his back --- oh except for a month or two ) and that Mitty Romney, whoever the h*ll he is, or is planning to be,  is this great businessman who going to restore everything is such a load of it.

Now you can call our candidate a liar, a thief, or a hundred other negative things, but I would have to point out that I'd like to see real proof ( like perhaps back tax records ) that Mitt Romney is none of these things.  " Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone ".  If Mitt Romney is such a paragon of virtue....then why the heck isn't he interested in proving that.  Well, my guess would be if his party knew many of the 'truths' about him, there might be another upset.  Not even knowing many of the Re-pug/Regressives and as well many of the Mormon faith are walking a wide path around Romney...or so they are saying.

It is in the swing states and it is what people vote when they actually VOTE.  I'll be glad when it is done.

I find it interesting that people will broadcast to the world that the President is "a thief, liar, criminal and traitor" and then go to church - no wonder organized religion is in so much trouble.

{Sandy} --- had that same thought myself.  I think it speaks to making judgements about others when we we are scared or upset or feeling a lack of confidence and  just a little desperate.  If the Pres. were actually these things he would not be in office, period.  Also, I don't think God is going to show anyone up.....we have been given the means and intelligence before-hand to sort out who the shady, shifty characters are and happens to be why so many Dems would not even consider someone who changes their stance every time the wind blows and who by careful wording ( sometimes ) keep so much about himself and his policies hidden.

I completely agree, Sandy. No wonder an increasing proportion of the population in the United States identifies as atheist or unaffiliated. I don't want to be affiliated with people like that, either ... The ones who start out a sentence, "I'm not a racist, but ...." If you laugh at pictures of the President portrayed as a pimp or a witch doctor or at pictures of bagger rallies with racist signs, and then announce, "I'm not a racist...." as you brag about going to church, well ....

I sometimes despair, too, Mary. This election should in no way be close -- the choice is so very stark, and that people would willingly vote for someone like Robme and the regressive crowd, who would take us backward to a time when women had fewer rights than men, a time when people actually starved to death, back to debtors prison, back to a husband owning his wife's body and fertility ... I just don't get it. As I said in response to a meme on FB that said, "Bin Laden is dead. GM is alive. Vote Obama" -- if white man accomplished that, there wouldn't be an election -- it would be a damn coronation.

And here is an interesting poll from yesterday's WaPo:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ap-poll-majority-of-americans-still-express-negative-view-of-blacks/2012/10/27/421d683a-2009-11e2-8817-41b9a7aaabc7_story.html

HL, that poll is scary. I think one thing going on is that whites are becoming the minority, and many see their "dominance" in society being challenged. Well, they are just going to have to get used to it, and I say this as a white woman. But I guess that's why cheating and organized stealing of elections is so necessary to them. Otherwise, they will be completely manginalized within a relatively few years.

Mary and Cherryl, I hear you.  I read somewhere that I'm a lazy liberal, sitting on my fat ass collecting disability.  To the person that thinks this, I have a couple questions.

    1.  Have you ever had Parkinson's Disease, on top of BC?

    2.  Do you know that every day is a challenge for me?

    3.  Have you had DBS where you are wide awake while they drill two holes into your skull?

I have a great idea.  How about we change places. You can sit on your fat ass and collect disability and I'll go back to the job I loved!  EH???????

Yep, these are the emphathic idjuts that will be voting for the MUTT!

Oh, BTW opossums are dirty flea infested varmints that carry all kinds of diseases.  Stick to the fishes.

ETA - A visual for the unenlighttened!  Warning............yuk, yuk, yuk!

And here I was, convinced that a black president would help with fear and prejudice. How, after all, can you continue to hate and fear when our very able and intelligent president is a black man? A reasonable, albeit prejudiced person would begin to doubt their beliefs, yes?

And the answer to my reasoning is many-fold. You make shit up, you make intelligence, reason and book-learnin' a bad thing. You translate care and concern for our citizenry as communist, socialist, as something un-American.

I am quite disillusioned and disappointed in Americans as a group. We are ridiculous as a nation, fighting over basic rights to freedom to worship, or NOT, as each chooses. For freedom to make choices about our own bodies. To clamor for war when it's the most costly thing we could do in terms of our lives and tax dollars. To deny health care access to millions and decry it as socialist but bang the drums of war....because somehow war makes more sense than saving lives?

I tell you all, taxes WILL go up eventually. They HAVE to, to pay for the huge debt resulting from the Bush-era wars. Anyone who believes differently is either stupid, deluded, and/or doesn't understand basic math. Can you imagine the hue and cry, the bedsheets and torches should Obama be the President to suggest tax increases?

I'm going to stop now because I'm making myself upset and my surgery site is oozing again. But goddammit, people, will you put aside melanin and party affiliation and think for a minute?

You're absolutely right, Enjoyful. Their candidate lumps us all into one group, the lazy 47%, why wouldn't they? Thanks for clarifying.

Oh, and I may be discouraged, but that didn't keep me from voting. Filled out my mail in ballot just now. Gardengumby is right-Washington state is entirely mail in now. It's kind of nice, but I also miss going to my polling place. I'm glad my kids got to experience the polling place before it was phased out.

I'm trying, Blue! Yep, I'm one of the 47% except that I pay taxes. Does that make it okay? I'm unsure of the criteria. Would a regressive like to clarify?

Blue - PLEASE stop reading any where, on this web site or any other, where anyone would be mean enough to write stuff like that - still, well, surprises me, when some people call them "friends" - not the kind of "friends" I'd let NEAR me or anyone I cared about.

Hiding behind "religious labels" to be vicious.   Brrrss...shivers.  Mary, Cheryl, HL, the racism we are seeing is so FEAR based, and in denial about what we all KNOW and CELEBRATE and learn with, and give thanks for - the USA is not longer a "majority" WASP country.  Think it was Roger Rosenblatt, maybe, on PBS news a while back who had a wonderful "essay" on "brown" USA.  All it takes is looking at a few of these videos, to remind us who we really are:

I wish I had your faith, E. I know if Romney wins, I'm going to have an awful hard time not saying, "I told you so..." to many of my relatives in the red states. I'm sure you all know that the red states get the most benefit from federal funds. Ironic, isn't it?

    what E said..

wonder if it might be easier for "some folks" to understand, if we used the word HUMANISM instead of the "s" word so many seem to fear....

Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Programs so CHILDREN ARE NOT HUNGRY, sounds like HUMANISM to me, and I'm all for sharing it with everyone.  E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E.
