HL - Thank you for the updates. I am just ecstatic that the surgery appears to have been less invasive than was feared. I hope she can read our best wishes. We are all in her bag.

Minor boast - and I am shallow enough to be truly happy because of all the fashion I can buy:

So I don't know if you all read a post I had a few days ago in which I said I had the audacity to ask for a doubling of my rate at work?

Yesterday they one-upped me and offered me an almost three-fold increase. They love my work. Unfortunately, it may not last too long, but it was nice to get this vindication at a time when other aspects of my life (eg: health)  were no so good.

    End of boast. :-)

Bartender - I'll have what you are holding!

    Bartender.....give her a double....she's earned it.

HL glad to get your news ( you deserve a double share too ) about Scoot/Enjoyful.

Got a piece in my email that ( not that I'm thrilled so much about her ) but C. Rice is telling the dunderheads over at Fox news to hold on with their cover up ideas because the baseless chantter essentially means nothing. In that regard she knows whereof she speaks.

I don't know who Fox news thinks they are going to change.....they have a bunch of mindless people at their feet just waiting for their pearls of lying wisdom to drop who will gladly swallow it all hook, line and sinker and then spread it around to their frinds who may not have seen it.  Everybody else just waits for REAL news.  Think I'll go check out thte Sludge Report.

Athena - congratulations!  Hope you enjoy all the new goodies you're going to get for yourself!  Such fun.

Seems the "mittmentom" stories the press tried to produce are well, wiliting, wilting, wilted, er, ah, gone.

Keep an eye on Nate Silver - his compilations are the most accurate - and lo we might think as do many that the Electoral College  needs "revisiting" - it's still there for this election!  YEAH!!!!!

Lewing - I loved that ad - not on FB, so I appreciate reading all the good stuff you all find there - and Belinda's cartoons, and Helen&Margaret are still my favourites.

Frankenstorm....we're only supposed to get about 5 inches of rain over a few days, thankfully not snow.

kad2kar doesn't look dumb, dumb, dumb to me either.  And I've done more than a few dumb things so I usually recognize them when I see them Wink  So what's up?

I'm worried about you east coasters and that storm.  Stock up on bread and milk (or chocolate and wine maybe) and prepare to hunker down if you have to.

Congratulations Athena!  Sometimes the good guys do win.  And get to go shopping!

Sometimes I honestly think Faux News is trying to destroy this country.  It goes way beyond 'mistakes' ... they are a propaganda machine.   Good for Condi for trying to talk sense to them.  I don't think they will listen to her either though.  The real question is whose interests are they serving?  Pretty safe bet it's not the average American.

ETA ... and I delayed posting and kad2kar answered.  Thought for sure you had boiled a pot over or something :)

Mitty did it again.....caught neck deep in another one of his fantastic lies.  Jeep had to "straighten" him out.  Doesn't he have any idea where you go for lying?  What a sad excuse for a reasonable human being.

I agree Illinois...Mitt's campaign just gets worse and worse, if that is possiblee.  He's desparate to win Ohio.  We really can't say he didn't know what he was doing here, because, and it sounds so trite now, he lies about most things, but to scare the crowd you are speaking to about their jobs, to achieve your own personal goals, is plain uncaring.

To add to  the Robme scare, I've seen articles about Willard supporters threatening their workforce with job security if they don't vote for Willard/LyinRyan. And this is not illegal. Where is the justice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The truth is finally confirmed:

Colin Powell's former chief of staff condemned the Republican Party on Friday night, telling MSNBC's Ed Schultz, "My party is full of racists."

Retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson made the comment in response to Mitt Romney campaign surrogate John Sununu's suggestion on Thursday that Powell's endorsement of President Barack Obama's re-election was motivated by race. Wilkerson, who served as Powell's chief of staff when the general was secretary of state during the first George W. Bush term, told Schultz that he respected Sununu "as a Republican, as a member of my party," but did not "have any respect for the integrity of the position that [Sununu] seemed to codify."

When asked by Schultz what, if anything, the remark said about the attitudes of the Republican Party, Wilkerson said:

My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people -- not all of them, but most of them -- who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that's despicable.

The retired colonel also said that "to say that Colin Powell would endorse President Obama because of his skin color is like saying Mother Theresa worked for profit."

Finally went to see Argo last night and loved it -- funny, exciting, smart, all those things. Alan Arkin (one of my favorite actors) was worth the price of the ticket alone. I mostly seem to go to matinees and twilight shows, so it was fun, for a change, to be out on a Friday night in a packed theater.  Everyone clapped at the end . . . though I was haunted by the fate of the Iranian housekeeper, as I'm sure the makers of the movie intended.

(The last movie I saw before this was the Master, which was every bit as amazingly acted as all the critics say, but also . . . and I feel like a total philistine for saying this . . . very distancing and just not fun.)

As for Mitt's Jeep whopper . . . as a Toledo girl, who knows just how important that plant is to the local economy, I was aghast and offended that he'd use a made-up story like that to try to win Ohio votes.

Wishing Enjoyful a painfree morning and lots of good rest.

Somebody will soon post a picture of sununu and willard driving over a cliff in a Jeep....

    About choice...

Lindasa, I saw that piece from Col. Wilkerson as well.  I do believe many of the older, much more well seasoned Republicans find what Romney and company are doing to 'their' party distateful and disgusting.  I also think as Linda said that trying to "scare monger" for votes shows extreme willingness to give into your desperation.

I'm thinking if Romney does not win, I do feel he is going to be someone to stay away from big time.  He has alienated so many people, including many of his own religious persuasion, and while he may succeed in some buisness ventures  I think his time has come and gone.

He is in a real desperation mode that has only deepened since the third debate.  He has made some really bad choices --- it is so much about trust.  Who has ever in the end trusted a liar.

Jackie, the "trust" factor must extend to whoever gains the Presidency.  I've frequently said that voting for someone who has been caught out in so many lies, and who continues to perpetuate those lies, means that one will never be able to trust anything that person says ever again.  Is that the sort of person the American public wants as their leader?  Certainly, the rest of the free world does not.  Certainly the leaders of the rest of the free world do not.

    Yorkie - priceless!

Lindasa, I forget who it was who said this (maybe de Tocqueville) that Americans only make the right choice after exhausting every other option. IMO, that is why our presidential races are so close. You could run a toothless felon or a porn star and he would lose by just 5 million votes. You could run the Devil himself, and you'd see several states turn red in a whole new way.

Nixon, at the depth of the Watergate scandal, had a popularity rate of 23 percent.

This country tends towards consensus and indecisiveness almost regardless of the picture in front of us. It's rather incredible that we had a Civil War if you think about it.

Sunny - people say Churchill said everything - I am skeptical. It's always either Churchill or Oscar Wilde, who was a major quotation thief.

    But perhaps you are right.Smile

    To quote Winston Churchill:

“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.”

I'm not so sure about that exact quote; Churchill was usually much more eloquent (and long-winded!).  However, the meaning is certainly there.

I've heard from Enjoyfulscootaloo -- She's in a lot of pain in the head and neck area, and feeling nauseous, but all things considered, is doing as well as we can expect.
