SAS...coconut oil maybe the answer...I'm going to try it. I've been putting probiotic power on my tongue. I'm on nystain and I'm still struggling with this mouth problem, which hurts like crazy. I know that my immunity is compromised although I'm not sure why other than possibly the IV antibiotics.

Look at this article and let me know what you think. http://truthaboutmouthulcers.com/treat-mouth-ulcers-with-coconut-oil.html

The way coconut oil works is that it has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and which can help to combat viruses, bacteria and fungus that can be found in a persons mouth and will cause ulcers. The MCFA's which are in coconut oil also help to enhance the body's own immune system and thus help it to fight viruses, fungus and bacterial problems. Also coconut oil is great for helping a person's intestinal system by killing any fungi found in the intestinal tract.

Above are a number of reasons as to why coconut oil can not only help to treat and heal mouth ulcers but also to help prevent them from forming. Also coconut oil is not messy to apply to the ulcer and is completely edible and natural.

Hi Luan, So sorry you are dealing with mouth sores...horrible! Mouth ulcers are canker sores. I've also had inflamed bumps at the back of my mouth (I don't have tonsels). You can look on the net to see images of thrush. It can be a very thicken white tongue, over growth, or cottage cheese like growth.

I'm not sure what kind of sores sas- is struggling with so for her I can't say. For me, I have a very heavily coated white tongue, canker sores on the tongue...sore tongue. Sores and bumps at the back of my throat. I notice lesions inside my gums, roof of mouth very tender, soft and sore. My tongue began to split last fall (not totally...looks like a deep line) when I had a serious episode, which can be a sign of vitamin b-12 shortage. Sometimes it gets so bad that it hurts to eat or talk. What is hard for me right now is to give up fruit. I love in season summer fruit.

Sugar makes it worse. I believe that it's due to low immuity, yeast overgrowth, and possibly a dental infection. That is something I also plan to check out. I don't know why I can't conquer this problem. After it gets better it just takes one sugar overload, or antibiotics to put me back at square one with mouth rot :) That's what I call it.

I would suggest you talk to your doctor or naturalpath about it. Ask to be tested for candida. I did, and they found high levels of candida infection (by blood tests) prior and present. My nurse practioner now believes me and gives the diflucian when I ask for it. My natualpath is treating me for candida infection as well and prescribes nystatin when it gets bad.

At first I saw a few different doctors who all gave me a different dx. One doctor thought I could not have candida or thrush unless I was taking chemo or had Aids. Another thought it was acid reflux whichwas not a problem for me and another thought it was oral cancer. Be aggressive and insist they do the candida blood test.

luan, I lurk here every so often to check up on my bc sisters. My annual mammo was due in June...having a hard time making the appointment.

EVE -hey ------Mines candida --commonly know as Thrush. The Probiotic worked about 98%. I will continue for the forseeable future. I have been using about 3 teaspoons a day. OF course saying that today, I totally fell off it. It will be interesting to see in the morning, what that means. EVE ---you are so right one episode of too much sugar can set it off again. Mine was almost clear after ORVIG------Then I had two glasses of wine out with dinner one night, in the morning it was fully returned. BUMMER---I love wine.

Mine was directly related to Keflex therapy. All standard orthodox medical treatment failed---Diflucan, Nystatin, Orvig-7 weeks. Within 24 hrs of powdered probiotics directly on the tongue ----White icky stuff was 90% gone. I put it on my cereal, and yogurt, and just spoon it on the tongue by the teaspoon and let it sit until it melts away.

Luan I know your preset is Leaky Gut, but I haven't gotten back to studing that yet. I studied it very hard when I had every symptom of LG as I remember, when I had diverticulitis induced by Celebrex in 2001. When I get around to it I promise, I will relook at it, but not right now as to many other things on my plate right now.

    Hi Luan,

Your description of mouth ulcers and severe sore throat could be an oral herpes infection.  I know you distrust the medical profession, but seriously you should have this checked out and treated, especially since it's been chronic for months and could be infectious or progressive.  Really.

SusanK8, out of concern for Luan, who may actually have a serious medical issue that may or may not be contagious or progressive, do you really think your advice is responsible?

She says she has mouth ulcers and bumps and a severe sore throat that has been going on for months.   In my humble opinion, it's dangerous and irresponsible for you to pretend to diagnose her and blame whatever medications she's taking, and then to tell her to just change her diet and she'll be healed.  You (nor I or anyone else on the internet) don't know whether she has thrush or herpes or strep throat or coxsackie virus or any of a number of other possibilities.   Some conditions might be improved or even cured by a "veggie feast," but then again some conditions might not.

She needs to seek medical attention, if not for herself, then for others around her who could potentially be exposed to an infectious and/or contagious process.  It's the right thing to do.

Sas...I've been putting the probiotic powder on my tongue at least three times a day.  I know the probiotic powder is helping...so thanks for suggesting it. Yesterday I bought coconut oil and coconut oil pills. My tongue is so much better today. Yesterday, I began also taking 8 nystatin pills, (first week you take 2 a day, second week you take 4 a day, and third day, you take 8 a day). Plus, I'm taking vitamin C, Super Lyzine, and vitamin supplements.

I know whatever is causing the problem it has a lot to do with low immunity. It is my opinion that yeast infections and overgrowth can compromise your immune system. The doctors did a blood test and it showed that I have a high level of yeast infection in my body, past and present so I know yeast perhaps is one of my problems. Thinking it was yeast came about after 4 rounds of antibiotics (one from H Pylori) in a period of six months which is well known to cause yeast overgrowth.

thenewme...for that reason, I am pretty sure the bottom line is yeast. I never heard of oral herpies. I will look it up.  Usually herpies are sores that itch, burn and blisters. I've had them in my teens and twenties but rarely if ever have a cold sore anymore. You would think if it was oral herpies that I would have a lip blister as well.

Luan...carbs...that's hard to give up but if your mouth hurts so bad that you can't swallow or eat, it easy to give it up. If you do, be forewarned, you'll lose weight :) Try flaxseed pancakes...two scrambled eggs, a little ground flax seed, mix and you have the batter for a great pancake. I like it best with crushed pineapple on top, or berries. The pancake gives you the feelings of eating carbs. Instead of rice, quino is better for you. It's a super grain from Africa that has a lot of omega 3's. Right now, I can't have rice or potatoes so quino is a good subsitute.

"It's hard to find info about it [black seed oil] online."

Umm, actually info about black seed oil (nigella sativa) is quite easy to find online if one knows where to find reliable and credible medical/health information.  Here are a few sources for starters ;-D.

Evebarry, I was actually referring to Luan's symptoms, not yours.  FYI, though, herpes doesn't  only occur as a lip sore.  In any case, there are lots of other etiologies for the symptoms Luan mentioned - some serious, some not so much, but since it's been chronic for months, she should be checked out.

ETA - I like quinoa too - it's one of my favorites!

Thanks Sue, black seed oil next on my list

Thanks Evebarry, am having pancakes already with bio buckweat, quinoa, trying all kinds of flours. The sore throat only lasted a few days back in January, ALL my troubles started when i was given a different generic for tamox because of stock rupture, real nasty SEs :((( white & red counts below norm, so gotta work on that. Edited to add that they are not open sores in my mouth, they are not on my lips, they,re two little bumps which i,m sure will resolve when blood counts are normal again.

Forgot to add in previous post that will DEFINITELY not be going into benzos either. Have had to deal with a verrrry addicted to valium and ativan mother for past 50 years. the addiction has turned her into a real witch. Will be restarting Holy Basil instead. Thanks much for your support sistas :))

Luan .. Celexa doesn't interfere with Tamoxifen.  It's one of the few antidepressants that doesn't.

    Hope you feel better soon.

That's weird Luan, because I checked with a medical researcher personally about this.  I guess it's a non issue for me at this time because I no longer take Tamoxifen or Celexa.

    I wish you well,

Eve, thanks for that pancake recipe. I'm going to give it a try! And quinoa...yum.   I cook it in chicken broth then slather it with real butter (or coconut butter).  It's a great "comfort" food.  I could eat that all day (!) but I dont because even though it's not a grain, it's still high in carbs and I'm trying to lose weight. Undecided  You should be eating lots of it though, it might help you put on some you have lost trying to combat the yeast.  I used to love stuffed green peppers but stopped making them so much because of the rice.  Now I use quinoa instead.

Black seed oil...never heard of that. Thanks girls for all the info.  Oregano oil is another great antimicrobial.  It's some potent stuff, let me tell you!!!  For those of you with mouth sores, you can swish it around (mixed with water!) or gargle with it.  It really helped when I had infected gums around a root canal.  I put some of the oil (full strength) on cotton and applied it to my gum line.  The infection would recede as long as I was using it. (I used it until I could get in to get the root canal tooth removed).  It also helped the pain. It was kind of like an analgesic.

    http://www.buzzle.com/articles/lesions-in-mouth.html

What I found on oral herpies...I have not had blisters with fluid or or crust formed over the lesions or sores. According to this and other info I've read, I can rule oral herpies out. Plus, I haven't been sick or fatigue which comes with an oral outbreak.

In the initial stage of eruption of mouth herpes, it looks like tiny red spots on the lips or inside the mouth. Usually, they appear in clusters. Later, these spots get converted into fever blisters with fluids inside it. Within a few days, these blisters breaks up and takes the shape of skin ulcers with a small, gray shallow spot at the center and a red base. After a week, a yellowish crust is formed on the sores of the herpes. As it becomes dry the crust turns more and more yellow in color.

Thanks a bunch Evebarry, i,ll sleep better tonight, zzzzzzzz Geeze, forgot again to add, thanks Impositive for the info, am aware of oregano, will certainly try it also, have stayed away from it as a supplement though as is has hypoglycemic properties, am already borderline

Impositive...when making the flaxseed pancake to change it up  for lunch or a side dish you can add onions, cellery, spinich, cilantro or fresh basil...for herbs, oregono (don't add it all...select your favorite few )  ... and then if you like put tomato sauce over your pancake. Also add a touch of lemon juice on the pancake.

Fun juicy hamburger without bread... large leaf lettuce, hamburger, onion, fresh tomato, salt, crushed pineapple. You can leave out the pineapple but my daughter said with pineapple it taste like shishkobob.  You can add ketchup (you make make your own without sugar) and good mustard. The large lettuce holds the hamburger and its content together.

Hello ladies, sorry it took so long, as promised the list of foods and others which will help boost immune system:

Carrots and other red, yellow, orange, and dark-green leafy vegetables contain beta carotene which helps protect the immune system, especially the thymus gland. Beta carotene and other carotenes also strengthen white blood cell production, and foods rich in beta-carotene help the body better fight off infection.

Yogurt can be very beneficial for the immune system. It helps the body produce antibodies and strengthens white blood cells.

A cup of kale will give you your daily requirement of vitamin A. This is an antioxidant that helps your body fight cancer cells and is essential in the formation of white blood cells. Vitamin A also increases the ability of antibodies to respond to invaders.

People who eat more garlic have more natural killer white blood cells.

Other helpful foods include chicken, kale, almonds, guava, crab, dark grapes and navy beans.

Supplements can play a big role in boosting immune function and white blood cell counts. Some examples:

    - Oleander extract in herbal supplement form. One herbal oleander based supplement was 100% effective in a clinical trial of raising white blood cell counts in HIV/AIDS patients with extremely compromised immune systems.

    - Astragalus root helps stimulate white blood cells and protects against invading organisms. It also enhances production of the important natural compound interferon to fight against viruses.

    - Zinc is necessary for white blood cell function and it acts as a catalyst in the immune system's killer response to foreign bodies.

    - Vitamin C is an immune enhancer that helps white blood cells perform at their peak and quickens the immune system response.

    - The trace mineral selenium is vital to the development and movement of white blood cells.

    - Both Siberian ginseng (eleuthero) and Asian ginseng provide support for the immune system.

    - Echinacea helps stimulate the immune system in a variety of ways, including increased white blood cell production.

    - Green Tea also stimulates production of white blood cells.

Some other potent immune boosters are pau d arco, suma, medicinal mushrooms, beta glucans and aloe vera.

Hope this helps a bit, you all probably knew about these anyways Wink
