Yes, I am Breast Cancer Girl!!!

Hang on a second while I adjust my pink cape.  Got an article about breast cancer?  Bring it to me!!!  Have a friend/cousin/co-worker who lived/died/killed herself because of breast cancer?  Tell me all about it!!!! 

 Save those books, magazine articles and e-mails about breast cancer for me, because, after all, that's all I'm interested in.  I want to discuss it 24/7 and thank GOD it's October, which is breast cancer awareness month!  It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!!!  I'm thinking of putting up a tree with nothing but pink ribbons and little boobies all over it.  Wouldn't that be lovely???  And of course, I'll string it with white and pink lights.  How fabulous!!!

Well, I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm off to register for a walk and buy a BIG FAT BUCKET of BREAST CANCER AWARENESS fried chicken.

Hello! my canserversary is on Oct. 15 it will be 2 years then and I would say I'm done with the bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and radiation. Then I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia March of this year.

I need some enlightenment and help here. Is there something wrong with me to feel so depressed, sad, and I just want to disappear this month of Oct. for breast cancer awareness month which is also my mastectomy anniversary. The only thing I could keep on thinking is all the flash back from biopsy, mri, mastectomy, radiation, and so on. In short, I don't want to see the pink ribbons, and to listen and watch to breast cancer awareness month. Don't get me wrong, I loved pink and I loved it that a lot of people support breast cancer but I cannot breath, my chest is so tight that I want to hide. Anyone feels the same, is there something wrong with me? what should I do?

No, Angel - that is perfectly normal, honey!  If you're like me, you just want to move on. 

 So far today, I've been asked to 'head up' the Susan G. Komen walk, and two women have called to tell me they have the articles about breast cancer that appeared on the cover of our local paper.  Oh, joy.

This is my first 'pink' season and it's only day 1.  I can tell I'm going to have to bite back the "SCREW YOU, LEAVE ME ALONE!" responses all month long!

Hang in there, Angel - we will get thru the Season of the Pink.

Angel:  I am with you, I cannot ABIDE the 'pink' stuff, never liked pink anyway.  I for one am totally SICK of hearing about breast cancer "RACE FOR THE CURE"....race away everyone~!  Methinks that a 'cure' is not feasible, just manageable.  NOT to be a downer.  I also have daily migraines, and there could NEVER be a 'cure' for that, everyone is VERY different...and we should all be treated as individuals, not clumped together, we all experience meds differently.

I acknowledge I'm still fighting as you all are...but I don't define myself by bc.  Sure, thinking back to all we went thru, it's QUITE alot of turmoil, stress, pain--not just on us, but our families/friends.  Do we want to relive it, NOPE!   If it happens again, I'll deal then, just as I did first time around, by just saying "Okay, what do we do next?"...then forgeddaboutit!!!

I hate October too!  I can't turn on the radio or TV with out hearing about BC.  Such happy commercials.  I guess we were the lucky ones to get breast cancer.  I would rather a month filled with real people talking about what they have gone throughand still are , from stage 0 to stage IV.  I don't think that would paint such a pretty picture.

Oh Suzybelle, this is so refreshing!!

I thought I was alone in this...when I saw all the pink in the supermarket, I wanted to shout "ramming speeeed"!!! and run it over with my cart.

Now that I am 2 3/4 years out, I have a little (not much, still sick of it) perspective in that, hey, it raises money, fine, more research.

I do not care for the things people give me like pink jewellry and stuff, but since my kid got all involved, and it helps her, I've taken the "pink stinks" down a notch to spare her feelings.

For me, Oct. was diagnosis month both times, and I'd like to forget that, but the  PINK won't let me. 

Ah well, they are raising money for us, but thank you for this thread.

More upbeat, more positive, what and how we are making strides in winning.

I think, (call me crazy) but we are pretty "aware", you know?  Hard to miss .  Sarcasm heavily meant there.

I share my emotions to my kids and husband last night and I know that my husband will never understand what I'm talking about.

This is very hard because it is something that we cannot control.So it is very frustrating for us.

Angel, hang in there.  Cancer SUCKS and it's so hard on our families.  And as much as they love us, there are some things a person just can't understand until they've been there, imo.

Definitely hear ya, and no, not being negative at all...we need the humor, and those who have not gone thru what we have, HAVE NO CLUE~!   Hey, the cole slaw is good at 'that' chicken place!  (in fact, when undergoing chemo for those 5 months, it's all I craved was THAT cole slaw--only!)

Got several copies of the 'pink' section of the local paper yesterday...

My fave thing is that I am asked, "Do you know her?" about anyone who has ever had breast cancer, because of course, we all know each other and communicate constantly.

And everyone on Facebook is pushing me to walk or collect yogurt tops.

Isn't it enough that I've given both my boobs for breast cancer awareness!?!?!?!?  Do I really have to eat hormone-laden yogurt now????

This is hilarious!  You guys are great!  My favorite last year was when I walked into our local Panera and it was filled with pink balloons that had just enough air left out of the top that they all had little pink "nipples".  I was floored!  Do they not understand that some people who get breast cancer no longer have nipples!!! And no, I did not buy their special pink f-ing bagel.

This year, I'm going in with a pin and popping every single balloon.  Grrrrrr!

Honestly, I think I'm going to talk to a manager this year and suggest that, instead of sending the proceeds of the "pink f-ing bagel" to God knows where, they could team up with our local cancer care center and raise money for local women who are already diagnosed that need help, whether it's with paying bills, house cleaning service, child-care, etc.  Lord knows I needed those things badly.  There I was, in my little NOT-pink scarf, buying meals for me and my kids that I really couldn't afford but was just too damn tired from chemo to actually make at home, staring at these damn balloons thinking "They're raising money for someone who doesn't even have cancer yet and here I am in the midst of actually going through cancer and I can't get any help!  What is wrong with this picture!!" It's like once you have it, you're a lost cause or something.

Now I'm all fired up!  I wanna go in there and just burn all their pink f-ing bagels in the toaster!

I read this in the news paper... I cracked up laughing...

5,000 run to find the cure for cancer but no one found it. 

October 6th is the anniversary of my last chemo a year ago. I hate that October is the pink month. Last year around this time I had to go for a mammo and sitting on the receptionist desk is a pink duffle bag filled with pink goodies to be raffled off. The receptionist asked if I wanted a ticket. I told her nicely that I hate pink and I didn't want the reminder.

I love the idea of decorating a tree with pink ribbons, boobies and maybe deflated balloons that look like boobies. If only I had a tree in my front yard, I'd do it!

Here's a Breast Cancer Awareness Pre-lit Christmas Tree, just for you. 

 

It's available from Bradford Exchange (http://www.bradfordexchange.com/products/111401001_breast-cancer-awareness-pre-lit-christmas-tree.html) for just $199.96.  The advertisement on that website says absolutely nothing about part of that purchase price being wasted on BC research or support.

The tree is pink, of course, and it's covered with pink BC ribbons (see the zoom feature on the web page). So there's no doubt this fun and exciting tree will contribute to "BC awareness" among family members and guests when you display it at your holiday celebrations.
