    I have BRCA2+   It's actually a gene mutation and we all have the gene....it's the mutuation that is the issue.  I know mine was transferred from my grandfather to my mother to me. My oldest son has it and now there is a 50% chance that he has passed it on to each of his children.

    Wow this thread is moving like a whirlwind!!  My memory isn't good enough to comment on individual posts, but I hope everyone is doing ok. Tonight I take my 100th Tamox !! Doing fine - minor se's but nothing drastic.  Ooops I've just noticed my battery is nearly out so I'll just post this.  Have a good night/day everyone, I'll be dreaming of you all!!!

    At 3pm I joined my kid and the nanny outside playing in the garden.  He ran to me and reached up his arms- you know- "pick me up" and I did, and I hugged him and he giggled and I threw him up in the air a couple times and he squealed with joy.  Then I grabbed him and rolled around on the grass over and over again, and my elbows and my butt got wet from the wet soil under the ground and he was smiling and laughing as we tumbled around the ground.  I flipped him over many times in somersaults and back flips and each time he ran into my arms and hugged me.

    This is all I wanted in the world when I got the DX.  This is what I was so afraid of losing to SFBC.  This is what I couldn't do for months- and i know too many good mommies who can't do this, and I want them to know how much I appreciate that I can.  I feel so lucky.

    I love my life.  I did pre-SFBC and I love it now.  I am just so happy!

    Rachel, we're gonna have to get you some Pom Poms...RAH RAH RAH!

    What's the deal with the cold hands thing?  Anyone have a link to a study?  I'm going to Google it...

    Last day of rads tomorrow...yippee!  I'm baking brownies for the rad techs and staff and then I'm going over to the infusion center for a port flush - get to see my chemo girls - bringing them some brownies too!!  A little scary moving past 'active treatment.' 

    My son's team made the playoffs.  1st game is Saturday.  Yeah!!  Maybe I'd better get some Pom Poms myself!

    I LOVE NYC! Used to come all the time, traveling for work and look forward to getting back soon.  I haven't done much of anything for a year but BC (chemo, surgery, etc.) -- a trip to NYC might be just what I need!

    1st batch of brownies is done and frosted...maybe I'll do a lemon glazed pound cake for those who aren't so into chocolate...

    OK, Rachel, so we'll plan something. I know there's a NY get-together on the 21st but that's a Sat. afternoon and I'm Orthodox so I can't make it then. We can figure out another time and find a place.

    Who else will be in NY that week to meet us?

    Good grief, Rachel! You remember to invite me and then I have to slog through 8 pages of posts?! I am exhausted, and I can hardly remember my mental list of comments that I wanted to make. Yeah, I was wondering about the handshake since I only have one breast on my chest, but I get the drift.

    Before I forget, I enjoyed your description of your romp with your son. I am so grateful when I have those just-love-life moments, although some times they are bittersweet....Leggy, Thanks for your story about the woman smiling at you (pages back, but I think you are the one who shared it).

    Chelev--I hope those antibiotics are working intensely and that you have relief and good news soon.

    And, Rachel, I once gave the same remark about cussin' since I valued my vocabulary and my ability to express myself, then, a few years ago, I discovered the joy of selectively saying things like "Holy Fucking Shit"! There was simply nothing better to say in certain situations! I was tempted to start this post by saying "HFS" but I decided to save it so I could savor it....

    Congrats to all the negative test resulters here!!!  Wish I could go up to NYC - I have only driven through on the way south.  Some day I want to see a Broadway play!

    I went to the gastroenterologist this afternoon about my kicking alien baby problem.  Doc says I need an endoscope and the dreaded colonoscopy.  He also is going to test me for something called "celiac disease"  which at first I didn't hear quite right - I thought he said I was being tested for silly ass disease!    Anyway "celiac disease" is interesting - I googled it but I don't think I have it.  Silly ass disease fo sure tho!

    Rachel, loved the description of you playing with your son. Those kinds are moments are indeed precious. One of my babies is having his birthday on Sunday ... 6' tall and age 33. For some reason he won't romp with me anymore .... I think he does all his "romping" with his fiancee....LOL.....all my babies are grown up ... 3 boys. Now my grandchildren ... well that's another story. Ryan is 4 3/4 and Hailey is 2 1/2. They are soooo much fun. I just get on the floor and play with them. We have loads of fun.

    kookiesmom- i do not dread the colonoscopy.  Oh I have such a long (funny) story about my first colonscopy but the bottom line (pun intended) is that colonoscopy can save your life.  It's one of the few screening methods that can stop a cancer right in its tracks.  In the end (pun intended) they found a polyp, cut it out, and that was the end (pun intended) of that.  I came out of that feeling SO happy, knowing that my ass is not going to kill me.  I walk around with this singsong voice o/ my isn't going to kill me, my ass isn't going to kill me /o 

    Come to think of it, a couple weeks ago I got notice my colonoscopy doc was shutting the practice and now I have to go  to another place :/

    But this much of the story I will tell... I have temporary tattoos of Van Gogh masterpieces, so I put on my fanny sideways- it was the Church At Arles btw.  I figured as long as they are back there they might as well have something nice to look at. My doc sees is an flips out- he thought it was real.  I was hey, you think I'd put a real tattoo sideways on my ass for you?  Really?

    Good evening, Ladies, I, too am far behind in reading this thread....but I do remember Renee saying her husband flunked the BRCA test -- CONGRATULATIONS!!

    And I so wish I could say I'm also heading up to NY (or anywhere, really!!), but my travel future looks bleaker than a Bernie Madoff client, at least until I get my new foob all done. The end's in sight, though. Today my PS said I had only ONE MORE FILL to go. OMG!! I am so happy about that, even though the 100 ccs I got today required a muscle relaxer and a Percocet. OWWW!! Well, that might be 2 Percocets before the day is done. I now have a 1,080 cc foob and feeling a little like Dolly Porton, although the truth is, I probably have about a C cup going.Wink When you start on the small side, it doesn't take much....

    Love that story about your kid, Rach! Simple pleasures. I'm looking forward to playing with my 7-year old great nephew tomorrow. For the past 5 years, I've gone every Friday to my hometown (30 miles away) to help my parents babysit him. We play outside, play with my folks' black lab, play video games, read books, play Hullabaloo, or just whatever. In the colder months, we do art or craft "projects" that I've found on the internet, or just dreamed up to use my scrapping/stamping supplies. He's already called this week and asked me to bring leaves for a project.....seems that he got a new arts/craft book describing how to make animals out of leaves. I'm a little surprised now, because I think he actually enjoys doing the projects and acts disappointed if I don't have one for him --- whereas years ago, I had to insist on doing them because it was too cold to go outside (at least, too cold for me).

    Yes~ I'd like to hear more about the link between breast cancer and cold hands/cold feet! I'm also one of those who has Raynaud's.

    Hi everyone.  Some good news and then some not so good.  GOOD -- I do not need to go back for a year for another mammogram.  Did not even require an ultrasound today.

    The not so good:  My 96 yr old Mother has been diagnosed with a " very weak heart" and we were asked if she has a DNR ( do not resusitate ),which she does.  But they also said she is in no immediate danger.   

    # 2 not so good thing:  Baby Stephen, born July 27, my DIL nephew, has a problem with his esophagus and is referred to a specialist.  He is being baptized Saturday.

    Dears,

    I have tried since Monday to get through reading this thread before posting.  By the time I get caught up, I am too tired to post.  So, tonight I am posting BEFORE reading.  This is the funnest thread.  I am SO glad I was invited.  Pre BC I had pneumonia every year...last year twice.  So, I am 3 weeks out of chemo and got a bad cold with low grade fever.  Called onc and they want me to take Levaquin (antibiotic) for 7 days to make sure I don't get pneumonia.  It interferes with Tamoxifen but she said not to worry...Tam builds up in your system so that taking an interfering drug for a short while won't be a problem.  Sound right? 

    My boys are out of school tomorrow and it is supposed to be 82 and sunny...so I'm taking them to the Arboretum in the morning.

    Now I'm going to relish reading this thread until I can fall asleep.  Good night to you all!

    someone mentioned their husband having cancer--mine was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year.  The doc asked how long had he smoked?

    Never!  but typically bladder cancer is caused by smoking for 25 years or so.  And you how they treat it? After initial surgery to remove it, he takes high potency vitamins. That's it!  So far he had one recurrence, which they removed during the exam procedure, and been clean for a year now.

    Only vitamins!!

    I tried doing some research on the cold hands/feet thing...and after mucho looking found that the Chinese believe that if you have cold hands/feet they believe that your energy (your chi) is off balance and can lead to disease.  At my last acupuncture appt. I peeked at the computer when my acupuncturist ran out of the room for a sec and saw some codes she had typed in.  I did my best to remember and looked it up when I got back to work...said I have kidney deficiency and my chi is all out of whack!

    TGIF!!!! I wonder if my chi is whacked out too as I have cold hands too.  Either that or its that silly ass disease.  Sorry it just gives me a chuckle every time I think about it!  Does the accupuncture help you Kari?  Can you feel the needles and does it give relief right away?

    I have a busy weekend planned - going to youngest son's high school football game tonight and then rodeo tomorrow night.  I hope we have fun!

    inspie one day i hope that will be the treatment for breast cancer as well!

    chelev and NYC visitors- I only have nannies during the day, and the kid starts heading for bedtime around 6pm, even if I brought him out for dinner, I'm too scared about the spreading of viruses in restaurants in the city through the winter.  And you know I hate to leave him, even with a sitter while he's sleeping. chelev- I have worked some trade shows and I know they are exhausting.  Are you staying by your sister or by the Javits?  You're welcome to kick off your shoes in my crammed apartment and watch me cook with a telephone!
