Let's Post our Daily Exercise

It has been a crazy week! My DH was out of town with his job, so I was all over the place. My DS is in baseball, golf and Boy Scouts, which means I am driving. My DD is in drill team, piano, and UIL, which does not coordinate with my son's ride schedule. Thankfully my DH came back yesterday and my DD's activities are coming to the end of their season. I did manage to walk at the trail 3 times and go to the gym once. I got in over 70k steps on my Fitbit!
HBcheryl-I have wanted to try a spin class. It seems to be a great workout!
Lilacblue-Congrats on the 4 year mark! Interesting on the statistical recurrences during 1, 3, and 5. This will be year 2 for me. There is a Tai Chi class here at the beach, but I haven't gone yet, I hear it is good.
Badger-It must be a relief to have closed on your place-congrats.
DF-A small walk can do wonders. After a long day I enjoy being outside exercising.
Ruth-It is beautiful where you are. It is too bad your trip was so long, but I am sure you'll enjoy your visit.
Twohobbies-Hopefully you and your DH will get better soon.
Natsfan-It feels great to get a run in after being stuck on the treadmill. I am looking forward to the time change, as it helps me get in more outdoor exercise.
Mysunshine-St. Martin sounds fun and beautiful. Have an enjoyable trip
-
hi all, had an enjoyable visit with the two moms yesterday. They loved the new place and being treated to lunch. Was going to do some more work after they left but it was so nice outside I just couldn't stay inside. Strapped on my sneaks and walked for nearly an hour. Liking this neighborhood, friendly neighbors and a park right down the street. Another mild day on tap, sunny in the morning then clouding over so will head out for a walk before noon.
-
Boo hoo. . . my cold rebounded and I have spent the last two days feeling crummy. I went down to the beach this morning and just sat on the sand and am now trying to decide if I feel good enough to go out to lunch! Sadness, it's worse to be sick in a beauful place. We leave tomorrow, and will hopefully have a smoother trip home.
-
Ruth I hope you feel better. Your pictures are beautiful.
Congrats, Badger, on your new place.
DF- I find it so frustrating that we need to advocate so much for good care! Your mom is lucky to have you to do that.
Had a good oncology visit. At this point, he says probably 2.5 more years on my AI. My bone density improved in my hip but I have officially got osteoporosis in my spine. Trying to up my vitamin D levels and need to think about if I want to take meds for it.
The good news is that the new Y just opened near where I live and I finally have a pool nearby to swim in. I was there the minute the doors opened this morning and got in a 1/2 mile swim before church.
-
Annie, I'm tired reading that schedule!
Scottie when I had my bone density follow-up I was overall pretty stable but the Dr said I was slightly lower in the spine, slightly better in the hip. That seemed strange so I researched it and it turns out the spine has more of a type of bone tissue that does not respond to exercise, whereas the hip is the opposite. The spine tissue is more genetically determined, which is unfortunate for me since my mom, grandma, and great grandma all had osteoporosis. I'm still going to work on adding upper body weights in hopes that it helps more than the walking and little bit of running I do. And I keep forgetting to buy some dried plums!
Badger, glad you like your new neighborhood and there's some more cold days upcoming to get settled I'm with you on enjoying the warmth while it lasts.
Ruth, darn illness has no regard for vacation! I hope the sunshine and warm weather will heal you faster. I feel like a day at the beach would do me some good.
DF, you are correct. Exercise is now one of those priorities that has moved up the list a bit. Healing thoughts for your mother.
It was another nice day of 60 degrees so I went for another stroll, a slow 38 minutes just to feel the sun and warmth. Not feeling any worse today. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
-
Awww Ruth sorry you are feeling crummy, this cold/flu/sinus infection is a rebounder everyone I know who has had it, has had it twice . Ginger glad you enjoyed your swim, it set you up for the day. What fun you will have exploring your new neighborhood Badger, glad you had a nice visit with your Moms. Annie you should try Spin it's easy on the knees but if you go tell the instructor it's your first time so they set up your bike correctly, it makes a difference. DF how wonderful that you and your brother are advocates for your Mom, Boo Heidi on no 'on demand' maybe you could change your browser to fool it to thinking you're in the US but then again you live in Switzerland and I imagine you twirling around in alpine meadows a la Julie Andrews if you're not dancing in the gym.
This morning did Body Combat with my young Vietnamese friend, his Sunday class has grown and this morning I counted 40 people so it has great energy and I did my final dog walking duties, the family arrived home from New Zealand an hour ago so I am back home, one of the dogs was very naughty and I found her on the deck with a big pot plant tipped over and she was in the middle of all the dirt having a wonderful time, then of course when she saw me she ran into the house - muddy paw prints all over the nicely cleaned hardwood floors, so I've done a little bit of sweeping and mopping and replanting this morning
-
Had brunch after church with some friends so went to the pool this afternoon and did water aerobics for an hour. Weather warming up so should start to enjoy more pool time. Not happy to hear that exercise is not of much help for the spine since my mom had osteoporosis and my last dexa showed some bone loss (though not sure where at). MO prescribed Fosamax but decided didn't want ot take it so became better at taking my Vit D3/K2, eating prunes and increased bone building exercises and classes.
ruthbru, hope you are feeling better. badger, enjoy your new home and neighborhood. I get to do the same in about 3 weeks as the house is completed and now just waiting to close. Will be glad to be in my own place where I can decorate and fix at will. Well, almost. My sister and I get along really well but we are soooooooooooo different. We laugh a lot because if I want white (she hates the color white), she'll want brown. I want a patio dining set for the lanai, but she doesn't because that won't leave enough room for the plants she wants to put out there (we have two lounge chairs and a small table out already). She has about 40 wind chimes and I know she will want to have a lot of them out on the lanai. Nope, that's right outside my bedroom and I am not going to want to constantly hear them. I also don't like clutter! But we always seem to come together as we know it's only 'stuff'!

Ruth, hope you feel better. Badger congrats on the new homw. Patoo yeah that your new home is finished.. . .my exercise this weekend was more cleaning as we only have a week until DD's BF flies in. I count scrubbing the fridge as major exercise. . .apparently it's been a few years.
My Fitbit Blaze is supposed to arrive on Weds., so I'm gearing up to increase my workouts.

Arrived on St. Martin today. It is an island which is half Dutch and half French. We stay on the Dutch side where the Heinekin Regatta is. The regatta begins on Thursday. I will be helping with water taxis, fun, but a lot of work and our shift is 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. My hip is a little better, but I hope it gets ALOT better!!! I will post some pictures.
Patoo is taking care of my kitty back home.
-
2/28- pretty toasty warm/hot yoga tonight for one hour. I started back to my gym again and going to try to make it work!
-
Decision - good for you and your brother for advocating for your mom. Ruth, Two, and everyone else who has been sick - hope you're doing much better today. Mysunshine - sounds like so much fun. Some years ago we did the 12 Metre Challenge there where you get the opportunity to crew an America's Cup yacht in a "race" with other sailing yachts. It was great fun but a lot of work.
My trusty ancient Nike Fuelband finally gave up the ghost this weekend. I did a lot of research and ended up with a Garmin Vivosmart HR. A few things I liked about it - it's waterproof so I can use it when swimming, and it has a wrist heartrate monitor. It also has a few bells and whistles that I think will be useful, like being able to control my phone's volume on the wristband - I use headphones when running (one ear only so I can hear what's going around me) but if I want to change the music's volume, I have to dig around in my running pouch to find the phone and adjust the volume. I'm looking forward to trying that option out. It tracks all the standard stuff like steps, stairs, total miles, etc. It's charging now, so I should be ready to go tomorrow with it. There's a 14 day return policy, so I plan to put it through its paces during that time to make sure I like it. I've earned just enough money in our workplace fitness incentive program to cover the cost, so that worked out well.
DH and I were up at the cabin this weekend, and were planning on doing a weekend run when we saw a flyer for a charity Zumbathon. Neither one of us has ever done Zumba, so it seems like it might be fun to try, and for a good cause (Leukemia/Lymphoma Society). Well, there we were in a local VFW hall - about 40-50 woman, and DH. He was the only guy. It was a lot of fun, but not my cup of tea. It's way too twisty and pivot-y for me, and I could feel the strain on my knees and ankles. I was trying to do everything low impact, but even with being cautious, one of my ankle tendons is killing me today. We had a lot of fun, but I won't be trying Zumba again. Maybe AquaZumba someday, but definitely not regular Zumba. Badger - we thought of you - the Zumbathon was in Emmitsburg, right near the FEMA Training Center.
-
Flying home today, praying for an uneventful trip!
-
Safe flying ruthbru. Nats, I'm with you on Zumba. I dislike the twists and turns especially when it's not properly choreographed. Frustrates me not end. I'll leave it to my sister and mysunshine who both seem to enjoy it. BTW, mysunshine, your kitty actually showed herself to me today. Didn't run and hide under the bed but sat and watched as I refilled her bowl. Probably making sure I did it properly. I gave her a couple treats for sticking around .
Had to take car in since got nail in my tire. 5 hours later all done. Annoying as they are just slow, slow, slow but it is where my contract maintenance work is done. Too frustrated to do much else today. Will make up during rest of week.

Ruth have a safe trip. Mysunshineshine. . .I will have to live vicariously through your photos.
Things are calming down at work finally and my hours are better. Now that it's daylight later am making a concerted effort this month to get my steps in on days that I'm not at the gym.
At the gym tonight feeding the Fitbit.

Badger - sounds like a fun time with the moms. You must be so excited about the new place. Hope the old one sells quickly and for the price you want. Ginger - I'm impressed that you do a half mile swim. I've just worked up to a quarter mile and thought I was doing well, so I'm really impressed by your distance. Ruth - hope you had a better trip home than out.
Grrr - I can't get my new Vivosmart tracker to sync with my phone. I looked at online forums and apparently some people do have trouble. I'm taking it back to see if they can sync it or exchange it for another one.
Quarter mile of lap swimming last night after work.
-
Plan for today - bike ride this morning, bone builder class this afternoon then attend a meeting to learn about hiking groups here. Would love to start hiking but afraid I would not be able to keep up so we'll see.
-
Just caught up with everything. I have been buried but I was able to do the Chilly Hilly on Sunday which lived up to its name on both counts. I walked quite a number of hills and the normally lovely and flat part consisted of stinging rain and blustery wind where you had to hold onto the handlebars for dear life. This is the group waiting for the ferry at the start to take us to Bainbridge Island. Lots of cyclists, very few cars.
Anyway, I survived the 34 miles and was only a bit tired later. But felt chilled all of yesterday. Better cycling days ahead. Much better.
Happy March everyone! - Claire
-
Lot's of bikes and cyclists Claire, Jazzy how is back at the gym going? Yodeling hello to Mz,HeidiHill! Has anyone tried aqua Zumba? Reading of recent individual digital issues makes me happy to stay analog.
Tai Chi this morning at the WI hall and body balance this afternoon at the gym.
-
Lilac, I've done aqua zumba but only once. Hope to get back to it as the weather warms in the morning. Did 8 miles on my bike, about 2 miles of it trying to find my way out of one of the villages (went into a 'no outlet' zone that had streets to nowhere!). Love to do that. Getting ready to do line dance class with my sister instead of bone builder class.
Later friends.
-
LB I've also tried aqua zumba, it wasn't for me because as you know I simply like to dance and I was halfway in and out of the water and I ended up feeling cold. Sorry you didn't like zumba Mary I don't really like it either but the guy that I go to does more than zumba he throws in squats and planks and he sometimes a bit of Bollywood and Hip Hop so it's a nice mix, grrr on the Vivofit hopefully a techhie can get it up and running I know one of the guys I work out with is an engineer and he posts all kinds of amazing things on FB from his Garmin so I know it can be done, me I'm happy with steps and HR. Claire that is a very impressive group. Scottie glad work is easing up and you're going to get in more steps. Mysunshine looking forward to seeing your pictures.
Last night did Body Jam, as I was doing switch jumps my knee went out - the reality of feeling 25 but being 65!!!!!
-
I got home at midnight & straight to the doctor this morning. Given how really, really, really bad I felt, I was not totally surprised to find out that I have pneumonia. So, I am lying low and taking pills for awhile. I am not even tempted to cheat and do anything at all. This really scared me!
-
Oh no Ruth!!! Feel tons better soon. This is one of the times not to push through, but actually rest and let your body heal. - Claire
-
I know. The EXACT opposite of my philosophy!
-
Feel better soon ruthbru!
8 mile bike ride, 90 min line dance class and 30 minutes running in the pool - yep, I'm beat!
Night sculpted friends.
-
Ruth, Oh no!!! Rest and be a good patient so you can get well soon!
Thanks, Patoo. I sent you an email tonight.
I am so thankful that my hip pain is pretty much gone. Tomorrow is the volunteer meeting for the regatta that starts on Thursday. I help on a water taxi that goes out and picks up people off their yachts and bring them back to the St. Maarten Yacht Club. Then they go wherever they want for the evening and we take them back out later. The shift is 4:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. This can get crazy if the water is rough and we are trying to come up to the stern of a 100+ foot yacht with our little power boost. Not to mention getting people on and off!!! Some of the boats (yachts) are ridiculous in size! Many corporate yachts come to watch the regatta. Victoria's Secret Yacht is 300 ft. In length! I will take pictures as the week goes on. So far, we have gone on walks and sat around the pool. That will change Thursday! Soooo glad my hip is better! Here is a picture from our balcony. I don't know why it came out at the top of my post.

should say power boat
-
Looks great & glad your hip is behaving!
-
Great view mysunshine and glad your hip is behaving as it won't be fun assisting people on and off yachts from a moving floatee!
-
60 minutes shovel and sculpt after dinner tonight
Ruth - you behave and get well! A friend of ours was airlifted from our local hospital a few days ago with a really bad case of pneumonia, and we have a great hospital. Take care and lay low 🤒
-
Feel better soon Ruthbru and LOVE the St. Martens picture mysunshine.
