Karen, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Cancer affects too many for sure.
Jazzy I think being a yoga teacher is a great idea. go for it!
I didn't think I could make a summer trip but I might be able to make San Antonio in October. That would be fun.
Did a little yoga myself this evening. It is bitter cold here today and yesterday so youtube yoga it is!
-
Patoo, how exciting to watch your house take shape. It's been 18 years since we watched our go up, It's fun and frustrating at the same time trying to picture the final product.
Treadmill at the gym today. Working on intervals again with different speeds and inclines. Dh and I were going to hike but the windchill was nasty here. We're in the single digits for wind chill tomorrow. Ruth and others up north, I don't know how you survive the winters.

Relatively balmy and sunny!! here. I ended up doing a 4 mile run as realized that I would need to push back skiing until a less busy time. Made major headway on one of the projects I am working on. Now to circle back and get moving on the second one. Fortunately, I have lots of leftovers from the chicken dinner I made last night!
Had to smile that my fitness app had an article on veggies for cold climates. All except radicchio were either part of last night's dinner or in my fridge. I am not sure though that they meant that I should add butter and cream to the mashed potatoes, but that is what I did. Plus a few drops of truffle oil. YUM!!!
I bit the bullet and signed up for all the major cycling events today....megabux, but the deed is done. This year will be year ten for ten of the Seattle-to-Portland. I am also doing the cycling event to Vancouver, BC. All this should whip my sorry hide into shape.
Back to the grindstone. Somehow, I am thinking that I may need a cycling wardrobe upgrade for the summer. Something about the best cycling bottom technology out there..... I know that my sunblock top is fading. Hmmmmm........ - Claire

Karen, I just saw the sad news about Leah. How incredibly wonderful that you got to meet her in person and spend time with her. She seemed like an amazing women & I am so sorry.
TwoHobbies, I am putting you on the 'maybe' list!
I am finally packed & just polished my fingernails so get to sit here and do nothing for awhile. Whoo Hoo!
-
Hello everyone, did 48 minutes of DVD and brisk indoor walking due to it being 14 degrees or so in D.C.
So sorry to hear of the loss of a fellow BCO'er. Life is certainly difficult at times that is for sure.
HUGS to all (as Peggy from another thread has inspired many of us to day, often).
-
1/18- just did the 20 min walk around the building. Gym was too busy so I opted for healthy salad on the way home instead. Working to add that walk to my routine every day.
Thanks for the support on the yoga teacher idea. Will keep you posted when I will be ready to take that plunge!
-
Bad so glad to hear your news and that you have a plan in place. Karen I am so sorry to hear about Leah's passing, the connections we make here are so very special, we meet some very special people who if not for BCO we would never have met. Jazzy when the time is right you should just go for it, so happy you've found your passion. Claire two endurance challenges, you are fierce.
Tonight did Grit Cardio at one gym then went to another and did my very first TKB class (Turbo Kick Boxing) forgot to put my Fitbit on this morning but put it on before my first class tonight and got to 10,000 steps after the 2nd class walking around the grocery store. -
Okay, I am logging on quickly before I shut things down & fly away. Think of me at 2:01 when I am walking off the plane while simultaneously pulling my flip flops out of my carry-on!!! I'm not bringing a computer with but will check in every once and awhile on my phone. I probably won't say much because I hate typing on it because it is too small and I accidentally delete threads, ban people etc. and can't undo the damage until I get to a 'real' screen again.
Have a great week. Much love to you all!
-
Safe travels, Ruth! Soak up some sun for those of us here in the Great Frozen North, eh?
RIP Leah, she was a lovely woman. ((Karen))
-
Karen, sorry for your (and BCo's) loss. Condolences to her family. Ruth, have a great time. Two, hope you can join us in October.
-
RIP Leah. She was always gracious in her posts.
Walked/ran today under a cloudless Carolina blue sky and 32 degrees.

Hi all, I'd like to join this thread if possible. I used to be fairly active but it seems that the sports I usually do, archery, kayaking, and padleboarding, will have to be put on hold for a little while. I had surgery 5 weeks ago and will start rads next week. I have inherited my daughter's fitbit and have started walking an hour a day.
Thanks.
-
Welcome ivy2. . .lots of Fitbiters here. I too used to do archery. . .not sure if I will ever get that strength back but talked to someone several months ago about options, including a modification for those with injured shoulders.
It has not been a good couple of weeks for a few friends on mine. Prayers to all on these boards and elsewhere.
At the gym feeding the Fitbit because we wimps in ColdLanta can't take our version of deep freeze.

Ruth- Have fun on your trip!
Wonderland- It sounds like a nice day for a run/walk in SC. We have been in the 70s here in south Texas. It has been a mild winter so far. I'm sure with saying that a cold front will blow through.
Jazzygirl- Becoming a yoga instructor sounds like fun. It would be very rewarding to instruct those that have our fight. You definitely would inspire them!
Karen- Sorry for the loss of your friend Leah, may she rest in peace. We are here for you!
Cheryl-You are really working it out and getting that Fitbit moving!
Welcome Ivy2!
Today I went to the gym and did the elliptical and weights. I have 12,000 on my Fitbit so far with more time to get more steps in
-
Welcome ivy2. Good idea to take it easy and just walk until you are well-healed from your surgery and rads. Walking is good though you may experience fatigue from the rads but try your best and you will get through it.
Pulled out stuff to take to DS tomorrow (I'm tired of being a storage facility) and did 4-mile walk with Leslie Sansone class this evening.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Welcome Ivy. Those activities might be postponed for a bit but I'm sure you'll get back to them.
Ruth have a good trip.
Warming a bit but still not enough to want to walk outside. Tonight I decided to move to some heavier weights so I did various upper body with those, some planks and some Pilates for my back and abs.
-
1/18- another 20 min power walk around the client building today. I went with two other ladies who walk fast so I had to step it up today. Tomorrow I must get to the gym.
I am not sure I know who Leah was, but any loss here saddens us all. Hugs to all those who knew her. May she now be at peace and free of suffering.
-
Ruth....I deleted an aol post on my phone and somehow it deleted all my posts (and permenantly)! Ugh....I had been saving some for posterity.
Welcome Ivy....I just recently joined this thread....I'm a walker, but slacker with all other exercise.
Today was a 12 hour day at work, so only got 12K+ steps!!!
-
Karen, I'm so sorry to hear about Leah. You must have wonderful memories of the time you spent with her in Israel.
Jazzy, becoming a yoga instructor sounds perfect for you! And you'd be able to bring a lot of personal experience to working with cancer patients. I know for me, I had no idea how long I would have stiffness and soreness after surgery.
I missed about a week with various things going on, but I'm back on the walking track. I'm hoping to take my Christmas money and get some kind of Fitbit device this weekend.
-
Welcome Ivy, Ruth enjoy the sun and heat and Jazzy, how lucky you are to have such a great selection of yoga training; go for the calling and you will be terrific! Received last night via email course results, passed all exams and received "passed with distinction" for the case study. Now, a UK qualified Cancer and Exercise Specialist. Feeling grateful to achieve this year long goal and keeping at it.
Off to participate in vi box class at the gym.
-
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome
I'm looking forward to getting back into some semblance of fitness.
-
Welcome Ivy this is a great thread, keep checking in we'll help keep you motivated. Congratulations LB what a fantastic achievement so proud to have seen you embark on this journey the ultimate of making lemonade out of lemons. Cubbie great that you're back on track, I spent time yesterday looking at the new Fitbit watch then talking myself out of it, it's on preorder as I was really tempted. Wonderland hope the cold front passes through quickly. Ruth I totally get the phone 'issue' some of my texts looks like I'm texting in some kind of special code
Last night did Body Jam, new release brain cells getting confused and there is were clogging like moves where you clap and slap your legs, gosh by the end I'd beaten myself up!!!!!
-
Welcome Ivy!!!
LB: Congratulations! How wonderful for you and the people that you will help. I like what Cheryl wrote about lemons and lemonade.
Cheryl: You are cracking me up about slapping yourself!
Walked/ran this afternoon. A few snowflakes were falling and now just a dusting of snow. A bad storm is coming in on Friday and Saturday.
-
Congrats. lilac, on your passing with distinction.
Haha, Cheryl. That does paint a funny picture. I can't talk because remember I'm the one who was going the opposite way in Zumba. Dance to the beat of your own drum.
-
30 minute Leslie Sansone DVD again today. I've been finding her really fun, with it 21 degrees out and (Wonderland) also getting a blizzard this weekend. I do it in my living room and the kittens watch and sometimes join in
-
Reader I also really enjoy Leslie Sansone though I now do it in a class with others. LB, congrats - great achievement. Wonderland, please make sure the snow is gone by mid-next week as I will be in NC (Greenville) for a few days starting on the 28th.
Exercise today was loading some boxes/bins and 2 small bookcases onto a pickup and then unloading it at my son's house. Then lifting and bending to unpack and put it all away for him (he's disabled so couldn't really help).
Night sculpted friends.
-
Patoo that sounds like a lot of movement. I should look into finding a class like you describe. Sounds fun!
-
Claire,
This is a few days late, but I have appreciated your perspective, positive outlook, and enjoyment of life immensely since I joined these boards two years ago. You are such a valuable presence here.
I also believe in the progress we are making in fighting this disease. If it weren't for Dr. Slamon and Herceptin, I probably wouldn't be in this brain mets situation in the first place because I'd already be dead from other mets.
I had relatives that beat 1980s breast cancer, and the difference between treatment options is night and day.
I tell every medical person I meet that I am living with a chronic, and not a terminal disease, and if anyone tries to tell me I am terminal, I will walk right out of their effing office.
And, yes, I did cover Foundation One testing with my team already.
To everyone else here - thanks for the love and support. It means the world.
-
Bad- you have the right attitude!
Lilac-congrats!
I just caught up on about 8 pgs of posts. Have really been out of touch. Several medical scares with MIL and then I got a horrible stomach virus. My BP went through the roof. Working on getting it back down. Trying to get back into my exercise routine.
So sorry to hear about several people losing friends and relatives. Sending hugs to all who could use one!
-
Hi all, I have not be online for a couple of days......been busy doing all the things that need to be done before moving this week-end. Plus my sister and bother-in-law arrived yesterday from Oregon to help me with the move. However, today my sister and I did a 5 mile walk and my brother-in-law went kayaking. So, we all did get some exercise. It is around 60 here. I think it is cold and they think it is warm!
