Yes, I have been to the Boiler Room. There are lots of cool restaurants in your town!
-
I am dog sitting which has been great fun. Also staying at my friend's house so a mini vacay. Ends tomorrow night. Wow, can he run. Quite full of wild oats as just turned one, and hasn't yet been neutered. Made sure I watched what was going on with the ladies in the dog park
About 7 miles of walking today. Invited my cycling buddy Jim so he got in some exercise as well. Will be good to get back to my place tomorrow evening though. - Claire

Finally a sunny day here! I shoveled snow off of our walkway and sidewalk this morning and then went for a long, long walk. It felt good to be outside!
-
Sweet pic, Runnermom!
-
Jaboo, hope your are doing well after surgery.
Have been getting yoga in everyday as my belated New Year's resolution is to get more flexible. Started out with 7 minutes and now I'm maybe doing double that, usually at the end of my cardio or weight training session.
I have also been decluttering and organizing although not with the KonMari method. I see that I've been using the so-called Swedish death cleaning/organizing method for the past 10 years or so.

Not to be morbid but I didn't want my mess hanging around when I wasn't. And I wanted my files to be organized as they never were. Now my purpose is fortunately not so much mortality-related but just foreseeing a downsizing move in two years.
-
Heidi- I clean out my closet every four months or so. I need to declutter kitchen drawers. I need to be better organized with my paperwork. Good intentions and so on. My 5K was canceled this morning due to thunderstorms. Hopefully MLK 5K tomorrow morning we'll go as scheduled

Shoveled off the stairs and walkway to my house before putting down some pet safe ice melt

Here is something to think about: For the last 8 years a group of us from this thread have gone on an annual field trip. The numbers vary (the fewest being 3, last year we had 8 travelers) and we have checked out a different destination every year (last fall we were in Nashville). We do have plans started for our 2019 outing, and would love for anyone who is interested to join us. Here's the information:
*October 10-16 in Santa Fe!!!
* The big Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque will be going on and we'll spend a day there. Another day some of us are going to take a balloon ride ourselves. We will also do some hiking, check out museums & other local points of interest, shop a little, and eat lots of yummy food.
* We plan to rent an AirB&B. Since this is a really busy time of year, we've been advised that we should get that taken care of by early March. We would also book the balloon flight at that time. I imagine that we will also rent a vehicle. Because it's a smaller city with lots going on in October, we will need the numbers of travelers much earlier than we usually do.
*So........if you are interested; send me a PM with your email address & I will get you onto our group email list. Since March is when we need to book, I will need to hear from you by March 1. (I will send another reminder out in case anyone wants to ponder this for awhile.) We always have a great time & it is awesome to meet the ''real' people behind the avatars.

For those who had exchange surgery...how long after exchange were you able to exercise??
-
my dr had me walking as I felt comfortable, with no more than a few pound lifting on either side for a few weeks, no more than 5 pounds for 6 weeks.
At least that is what I remember! Lol
Remember all tissue healing occurs in -12 weeks. You don't want to generate internal pressure from lifting, sit ups etc that can put pressure on internal sutures.

I am 5 weeks post-op today. For first two weeks I was allowed to be my own personal walking machine … not the treadmill, just my own two legs.
At my two week follow up, I was allowed to go on the treadmill, recumbent bike, and stretches and core exercises that would put NO pressure or strength requirements on upper body. With next visit +4 weeks from that appointment.
I do go on a business trip later this week, so at 5.5 weeks was given permission to lift a 20lb suitcase out of my car, but was told to check it and not lift it into the overhead compartment.
At my 6.5 week post op appt, Feb 1st, I hope to be released to start adding back upper body work, for me yoga/pilates so downward dog, plank, etc. Building back as I can tolerate. After my first exchange, this took approx. 2 months to build back the strength and confidence I lost after 6 weeks away.
My insurance covers a 3 month window for follow up appts, so I guess that coincides with what someone else said about 12 weeks for full internal recovery.
Best, TT (happy my Patriots won)

Took the a.m. off with MLK day, then did my usual 75 minute lunch time yoga and now at "closed" school to prepare for my Tuesday classes...even after 30 years of teaching, I don't like teaching at 8am without doing a little prep the day before. Stay warm everyone...was 18 here in southern VA this morning! TT
-
I cleaned house, did some toning, & will go to Zumba tonight. Cold AND snowy here today. Brrrrr......
-
it was 49 degrees this morning for the MLK 5K run. It was very chilly but a great turnout. Upon returning from work I've been working in the backyard. I had to purchase new palm trees because Ted my retriever chewed my trees down to the ground. This trees were 7 to 10 years of age. The vet said there isn't anything wrong with Ted medically but he's probably bored. I'm going to talk to his former trainer in a few days. It's in the sixties tonight so I'm going to build a fire in my fire pit and relax with friends. Have a great evening all of you -
Gorgeous day out today - off for MLK holiday. Two nice walks....One more after dinner. Winter storm is on its way according to the weather people...snow starting around 10pm....I think Denver is supposed to get 3-6 inches, more to the south and in the mountains. Just heard going to be strong winds and wind gusts for areas just east of the metro area.
My district and the teacher union could not come to an agreement in negotiations that have gone on for way too long. When you hear each side of the offer you wonder if they are in the same room!! Teachers are voting to strike. Voting was on Saturday and again tomorrow. If teacher union decides to strike, which it looks like it will the earliest is the 28th. I find the whole issue very unsettling. I wish the district would and the union would each agree to give a little more and come to an agreement. The last time the district went on strike was 1994 - lasted 4 days. I worked for a different district at the time.
So sad - my kids former pediatrician, only 54, turning 55 died last week from cancer. He was an awesome doctor. Way too young.
Going through papers in my home office - some are papers from my late parents that we no longer need. My shredder only handles 2 pieces of paper at a time, so it is a slow process.
This morning after filling up my tank, opened the car door into my face, hit my glasses on the bridge and they broke in half...fortunately I wasn't hurt....these were old glasses but I still liked them. Thankfully I just got a new pair and have a couple more spares.
Stay warm and dry.

A little exercise inspiration:
-
I did 3 km on track today, I was proud of myself even though I was being lapped by others lol.
I have been on strike before, it was so cold when we were out, hope never to have to do that again.
-
karen- what a horrible position for you to be in. Find a way to negotiate. It shouldn't come down to a shutdown. Very sad to hear about your daughter's pediatrician dying at such a young age.
-
POUND this morning & a toning DVD. I took the grandpuppies on a snowy walk this afternoon. Tomorrow evening we hope to be flying out for a week of fun in the Arizona sun. I say 'hoping' because we are in a winter storm watch starting tomorrow afternoon
-
The union voted to strike...the news said over 90% of the union members voted to strike...not surprised about the vote....Legally, the strike can't start till next Monday, the 28th. I sure hope an agreement comes together before then. Our Superintendant (sp) is new to the position since the start of 2019, but she was one of the higher ups for several years....started her career in the school district in 93 or so....She says that she understands the place teachers are in, yet she is holding her position!!!
Sweet dreams

Good morning! I'm 71. Had single MX on 9/25 and recon 12/12, with uneventful recoveries. Between surgeries, returned to the gym, doing HIIT, weights, walking. Last week resumed my usual - 5 days/week at my wonderful small gym with a knowledgeable trainer. Back to swimming as of yesterday. Pre-diagnosis, did a mile 3-4X/wk. It's going to take a while to get back to that! Stretched MX side using kickboard and some lap swimming. Today, I feel some soreness in MX side, but back in the water tomorrow! Being optimistic, signed up for a 10K run (walk too!) in October to celebrate 1 yr cancer-free! Gotta keep moving to keep moving!
-
Welcome, Linny!
The Walking Women 'weighting for spring'. Now I need to pack. Hopefully my next picture will be taken outdoors in the desert sun!
-
karen- I hope the strike is settled soon for all concerned.
Ruth- enjoy the sunshine in Arizona.
-
More uncertainty at work - the superintendent has asked the state to intervene....no surprise as she said she woke if union voted to strike. The state has up to 120 days to respond and 180 to intervene....The head of my department has cancelled all trainings and all meetings through February 8th. I don't see any resolve soon.....Don't like this at all!!!!
-
Lost my post so here I go again. Ishoveled again today. Heavy and wet snow so it is good cardio and weight training.
Last night I vacuumed and cleaned carpeting which is way worse than snow shoveling. I’m going to get spring cleaning, organizing, de cluttering done in the winter when it’s cold out rather than in the spring when I want to be outside!
-
Agree that cleaning carpets is far worse than snow shoveling. It's been beyond dreary here, and looking forward to brighter days. Normally, these things don't affect me unduly, but I think last night's walk in the pelting rain was the tipping point. I ordered a hot water bottle from Germany.
Dinner is almost ready. Wonderful German sausages with roasted veggies and potatoes. I was even uninterested in the Dungeness crab sale at the supermarket.
One break. Need to go to NYC about one month from now and got a screaming deal on the flight.
My dinner awaits. Sweet dreams everyone! - Claire
-
yoga yesterday, road warrior today... on business travel today through Sunday, including half a day of work on Sunday...have my sneakers for some quality treadmill time TT
-
Very icy out today, will be doing indoor exercise, heading for the stairwell. I should go for a swim but not feeling up to it.
-
Ugh, Karen, I know how that feels. In NY we can't strike but we had plenty of job actions about ten years ago. It is unsettling.
I need exercise. The cold weather has all my bones aching and on top of it my little DS got a stomach bug. This weekend hope to get back in the swing.
