homemadesalsa-Im in awe. Incredible. I watch this kind of stuff on the Discovery Channel but WOW. The process sounds serene; sleeping in your snow shelter with a light in the background. The work involved to get to that point has to be taxing. You had to be in Tip-Top shape to teach those type of courses. Love the photo

Salsa, happy birthday! You are still a young chick in my book! I am 65 and haven't seen any diminishing in my fitness (and a great increase from where I was post-chemo). The only things I don't do are those that require leaping repeatedly in the air.....I'd just as soon keep my original knees! Like Claire, I want to be fit so that I can do whatever I want to do; plus when you go to the doctor, it's fun to be able to answer "no" to all the "old people" questions they have to ask when you hit Medicare age.
*I am cheating by checking in, I'm only about 1/3 done with the house.

Happy Birthday Salsa!
My sister has been visiting for a long weekend so most of my exercise has been walking while playing tourist....its been fun, but I am ready to get back to a regular routine tomorrow...
-
Happy Birthday Salsa!
Yoga on saturday and ran 3 miles today. It's been lovely here for January so no complaints about getting outside!
Have a good week everyone.
-
Good conversations about fitness and age. Like all of you, I want to stay in good condition to be able to continue doing things I love to do!
Highs in the 60s today and sunny. Snoozed on the deck. Dreamed I was inside and the overhead fan was blowing on me. Woke up with sun and a sweet breeze blowing on my face. Watched the cats play in the yard then went for my walk/run.
-
Homemade....love this, talk about getting my blood going.... I am hoping to get up skiing tomorrow, though I did fit in 6 miles of walking/running today.
I still remember the story that my wonderful lifelong friend and cousin told me about my mother. She had moved back to Vermont at the age of 80. It was a chilly and rainy/snowy October day and my sister and BIL were helping her move in. My mother noted there was just time for a walk. My sister only said....what, a WALK????
I will also mention that I was the only one of my class who was still doing anything like cycling 100 miles in a day when I was at my reunion back in June.
Guess who is having more fun???? - Claire

claire- love the story about your mom. More Power To Her

Yes, I was talking about an igloo, I forgot to put the English writting in it (we use the word“ iglu“ ). Thanks Homemadesalsa for the info on those 2 different types. So we made the other type made out of a pile, but still call it an igloo. 😁 My DH made the huge pile of wet snow. I spent the whole Sunday digging the inside and putting it back on top of the pile with the older kid (7 y o). The smaller one was constantly climbing up and going down the pile. Now 3 people fit inside (granted, 2 of them are kids). It's about 5 degr. F today, so it will be hard as a rock. I feel quite tired today from the digging, just waiting for my Herceptin injection now. I can't do my walking today after the injection (it goes in my thigh), I guess I try just some stretching.
Homemadesalsa, what a great career. We love skiing and cross-country skiing, but I've never done something like you. Incredible.
Claire I agree very much and like your reasoning. Thank you for sharing. I am so glad to read that. How did you feel on AI?
-
It is so cold out today I just want to curl up in a blanket. My dogs need to be walked so that will be my motivator today. I will definitely need to do some walking inside today as well.
-
Just back from lunch time yoga. I am three weeks post-op so still keeping it easy and mainly walking. Enjoyed the Golden Globes last night when Jeff Bridges had a shout out to Buckminster Fuller and his description of a Trim Tab...that is my moniker TrmTab! Happy Monday everyone.TT

Hi Everyone - I am new to this board, and 2.5 weeks post-mastectomy with TE surgery. I am extremely lucky as I will not have to do chemo - my MO said that I only need to do hormone therapy. I am missing exercise and am becoming a bit anxious about it. Since I just started to feel much more mobile a few days ago, after my drain was removed, I have started walks, and I also started pedaling on an under-the-desk cycle. Additionally, I am doing stretching exercises.
What did you all do for fitness at 2-3 weeks post-surgeries? I am a little bit worried that I will start gaining weight, and will lose my strength, etc., especially now that I have started hormone therapy.
-
Welcome, RCcali,
Hope you're healing well from the MX. As you will see, the women on this board are really strong in more ways than one! Everyone has had different experiences after surgery and treatment. Like you I had a TE before my reconstruction. I practiced and taught yoga one month after I finished radiation, with the expander in. My point is you'll know what your body can handle. Good luck to you!! Glad you are here with us.
-
Welcome RC. Well, I am three weeks post-op from my second exchange. The initial healing from MX took longer, fresh wounds/raw nerves, so to speak. Exchange is easier and a second exchange easier still, at least for me. With previous surgeries, I pretty much waited the month/four weeks to return and upon returning had to build back up to where I had been, TT
-
Welcome rc. I walked with my hand in a pocket b/c swinging hurt. Then I worked on walking faster, up hills, and stairs etc
-
Welcome RC. Happy Birthday Salsa! Very impressed with the igloo and what you all are doing and have done.
I'm with Claire on the aging thing. I'm 66 - broke my foot at 63, cancer tx at 64 and each time the thing I needed the most was a return to exercise. It's what makes me feel like myself! The lay offs are really hard, but adapt and do what you can and you'll keep some measure of fitness.
Ran 3 today on the treadmill and then weights - feeling blessed I can still do it!
-
Happy Birthday, Salsa!
Welcome,RC. I did lots of walking and lower body exercises while recovering.
I finished putting away the decorations/cleaning the house this morning & then ran around town doing errands. Since it was a gorgeous day, I stopped by DS's and took the grandpuppies for a walk. The weather is supposed to change for the worse tomorrow, so I'm glad I had time to get out today. I went really fun Zumba class tonight (lots of old songs).

Had a great trip with DH to see our daughter in Israel. Tel Aviv to Newark was a good flight. Landed to find out that our flight to Denver was cancelled. Re-booked on a 10pm flight which left late. Should have been home 9:30 or 10pm...Got home at 2:00am. I think by that time we were up 32 hours or so!!! We both woke up way early!!! So 4 or 5 hours sleep last night. Back to work today - after winter break. Lots of walking but most days only got 15 - 20K. Today no real walking but still got close to 10K. I'm so tired...I hear the bed calling - sure hope I'm not up at 4:00!!
-
karen- you sound exhausted. And I cannot believe you start back to work today. Sleep well.
-
Wow Karen, that sounds brutal. Take easy for a few days so you don't get sick!
-
Welcome RC! Walking is a good place to start and use these exercises to help with stiffness and range of movement: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/breast-cancer/treatment/surgery-for-breast-cancer/exercises-after-breast-cancer-surgery.html Salsa, Happy Birthday and thanks for the igloo info. Karen, that was some return, welcome home. Wonderland, love your recent artwork. 2Fun, good to read you. Back for me in the saddle on normal schedule with 4 classes today. My free, yoga for cancer class (for those living with cancer) is now listed on the Macmillan charity site so perhaps someone new will come along this afternoon. Good work everyone and let's keep at it!
-
Welcome RC!
Karen: Hope you are sleeping right now!
LB: It's great that your yoga class is listed on the Macmillan charity site.
What a gorgeous day! It was 68 degrees when I walked/ran. So refreshing. It's not going to last, though. Snow, sleet, etc. predicted for this weekend. Just in time for Girl Scout Cookie Delivery Day. Oh boy. I have been helping with this day for years. The delivery is outside and it's always cold. Why should this year be different?!
-
wonderland- I'm not fond of sweets by I end up buying about 20 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. I see clients at several group homes so I donate the cookies to the caregivers. Let's all support the Girl Scouts.
I have a practice stair climb Saturday morning. It's 32 flights of stairs. March 9th is the official climb which is 49 flights of stairs. I have not been training for the stair climb. It's probably going to kick my butt. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning so I'll climb 16 flights tomorrow. In the past we could just go into bank and Office Buildings to practice. Because of tight security I no longer have access to those facilities.
-
A nasty day here, wind gusts of 49 mph brought the windchill down to a bone chilling 17 BELOW zero. I went to POUND, did a couple quick errands & stayed inside the rest of the day. BRRRR!
I got my yearly report from Fitbit. It says the amount steps I took equals 548 hours of dancing or 7,162 laps around an Olympic sized track, and most importantly; I burned off 1,558 scoops of ice cream!!!
-
ruth- great work. It must be all those exercise classes you participate in.
-
Between my 2 girls I was cookie mom for 12 years (6 for each daughter)- though there was a few years gap between each time. I totally forgot about girl scout cookies this year....We used tp buy 2 cases and have them throughout the year. Last year I think I bought 3!! I don't eat them anymore - so if my girls want, I'll buy for them to have when they visit.
Last night went to bed at 10:30 - woke up at 2am and then again at 4:30!! Earlier tonight I was struggling to stay awake - I'm still tired but don't want to go to bed before 10 or 10:30 as I don't want to be up at 4!!
Nothing like putting something away and not remembering where you put it. I took the extra credit cards (3 I think) out of my wallet and no don't remember where I put them....next time I will have to include that on my packing list!! Well, I best get back to figuring out where I put them. Unpacked and all the laundry is down, most of mail is sorted
Sweet dreams
-
karen- how was your first day back to work?
-
I've been up since 4am....not jet lag, just my insomnia rearing its ugly head!! Went to bed around 10:30 - woke up at 2 to pee and went back to sleep then up again at 4 - decided not to try to fall back asleep so I've been on the computer reading!! What I would give for a solid 6 hours sleep!
Jo - first day back was okay. Yesterday and Monday worked on reports and work for a class. Today I have meetings all day - my dept meeting for 4 hours, 1 hour meeting with my team, then preparing for a training with my teammate that we are doing the end of the month....
Best jump into the shower so I can get a walk by 7 to leave at 7:30. Have a great day
-
I hope you can get back on schedule, Karen. The sleep thing is tough. I sometimes take Unisom (over the counter sleep aid) and that helps me and doesn't make me groggy the next day.
The Walking Women are inside until further notice. Brrrrr, it's cold here! I think I'll go to Lunch Barre in a few minutes and back to Dance2fit tonight.
-
Just back from lunch yoga class, 3.5 weeks post op, so still no weight bearing on arms, but did some twists today at 30%...Congrats to the NDSU fan!
-
trmtab-that's great. I didn't have reconstruction. Reconstruction seems to be a much more complex process then a BMX. I'm glad you're doing so well.
