Today my big poodle stole my peach and didn't eat it. So, since it only had one tooth mark in it, I ate it. I offered the big goon a piece of the peach and he SPIT it out on the floor. Argh

3jays, so happy to see you posting.
If Gordy ate ham or bacon that would make him like a canibal in the pig world, wouldn't it? I just find him to be a really fascinating animal and would love to see him in person. How old do they live to be?
Two dogs are fine....three too many. The last one we got, Hope, the one my friend Kathy and I found near my Dad's house, is a really good dog other than the fact she barks too much. She gets along great with both of the other dogs, but she and Harley are best friends so she does what he does and he picks on Brattie so then what happens is those two gang up on him. I think that is why he is afraid to go out the dog door, they bark and growl and come charging at him. He's a timid dog to begin with so this has not improved his self image any and he walks around with his tail between his legs. He's a mess, but then again, he's my husband's dog and he's a mess also so what can I say.
My old dog, Sydney, used to love both fruit and vegetables....he would eat a salad with me, ate veggies as a treat and loved apples. The vet said it was good for him and he lived to be almost 18 yrs old and had most of his teeth. Supposedly most yorkies and silkies have dental problems and lose their front teeth. Not Sydney, but I think they were really strong from the way he would latch on to a toy and not let go. You could swing him around the room and he's never let go. I still miss that dog. Harley already has one lower incisor missing.

Oh, by the way, the cat up the street is eating just fine....she's back to strictly dry food. I didn't make it up there til almost 8:30 last night and she was hanging out on this wall looking at the driveway waiting for me.

Love the stories of all our beloved animals.
The other day a man came up to my door with a little jack Russel type dog. She was older and looked like she had had puppies at one time (not recently). He had found her wandering in the road and was worried about her but was on his way to work. He knew I walk my dog around the neighborhood so he asked if I would help her find her way home. So I "trapped" her on the back porch for a while, gave her water and some treats. meanwhile my dog is going nuts b/c she wants to play with her. I did not recognise the dog and I know most of the dogs around here. I ended up putting her on a leash and taking a walk up the street. It didn't take long to find someone else walking the streets looking for a dog. It was someone who had just moved back to the neighborhood after being away a few years. They kept saying get in the house Oreo (that was her name) and the sweet little thing kept trying to follow me. I finally had to pick her up and hand her to the woman on the porch. I think I made a friend. But wonder how well the dog is treated. But a good ending to the story nonetheless.
Marybe, glad the cat is eating well again.
Ginger, my puppy once stole a peach out of a neighbor's hand and promptly dropped it in the dirt. That was embarrassing. Peaches are so good this time of year, can't let one go to "waste".

Our dog will eat anything but raw garlic or onions. Problem is keeping DH from giving him too many treats.
-
Onions I think are bad for dogs....also grapes and raisins. Maybe I am wrong on this. Once we had a poodle and she got into the garbage and ate a bunch of spaghetti and her stomach blew up like a balloon and she was in sad shape for a day...I think the cellulose is difficult for dogs to digest.

Marybe:
They can live 30-40 years! I just love my P-I-G. The week after I was diagnosed with bc, I went out to feed him and he was just lying down in one of his "holes" in the pen. I called his name and he looked at me but didn't try to get up and run to the gate.
I went inside and tried to get him to get up but he wouldn't. Needless to say I called the vet justa balling, telling him that Gordy was sick, wouldn't get up, etc and I was afraid he was dying. My vet is wonderful and came and the diagnosis was "colic". He gave him a shot and gave me some meds to put on his back, so that it would be absorbed thru his skin, to use for 10 days. Gordy was fine after the shot and meds.
The vet told me that he didn't want me worrying about anything but me and that if he needed to come make a "house" or "pen" call for the cats and/or P-I-G, he would do anything needed. He even brought his wife and kids over to see Gordy.
I'm extremely blessed in so many ways.
Have a great day,
LaDonna

Harry the small dog at the pieces of peach that Stewie, the large dog, spit out.
Yes onion, garlic, raisins and grapes are all bad. Also chocolate, If your dog is big you are in better shape with that one. Dark chocolate is the worst. Apricot pits have arsenic in them, don't let the dogs gnaw on pits. There is an on line list that we should post if we can find it and then we can discuss. I hate, I am sure we all do, the idea of poisoning my dogs or cats. I think cats are smarter about food than dogs are.
I just found out dogs are diurnal. Sleep all day play morning and evening then sleep all night. Stewie, big dog is passed out on the couch next to me. I have 1/3 he has 2/3 of couch. Little dog, Harry, is on poofy dog bed that has pictures of dogs plaing poker all over it.

Cats are pretty smart about food, but can be poisoned by lots of plants. I had to get rid of my houseplants because my torti thought they were salad. Can you even imagine a cat eating sansiverius (mother-inlaw's tongue).
-
Filterlady, I can see why you got Gordy, I imagine we would have great fun eating corn on the cob and sitting on the porch if i had a large pig. My dog thinks he is a pig somedays.lol
You are so right,Marybe, cant do more than 2 dogs, cause it would break the bank, what with the pet shampoo and vaccines and city licenses, etc. Last time I got my dog all the vacs in case I needed to board him and got his blood test for the heartworms and got the meds for the combo,hookworms/heartworms/& flea prevent pill, then i put K9 on him and he still is itchy, guess he needs an oatmeal bath..I have been super itchy too but blamed it on the Femara when I guess its the pollen. Anyone using Trifexis pills for their doggie?

We are taking care of our DD big black lab for a week. When our big dog, poodle plays with black dog it is huge rough house wrestling just like you would tell your teenagers not to do! Little dog races around barking while all of this is going on. Three dogs is too much if they are big. Maybe little ones would be okay.

3jays,
I woke up this am to check the threads to see if there was any news of Marybe. She's such a wonderful lady and I enjoyed all her posts, especially her love for all critters.
I'm sure that Sydney is waiting for her at the rainbow bridge. What a reunion that will be!
I'm praying for her and her family at this difficult. Marybe is doing this her way and I pray for her comfort and the comfort of her family and friends as she takes the final steps in her journey.
Marybe, you are one of a kind and I appreciate and treasure the advice you have given me and for sharing your story will lots of us that were never able to meet you in person.
Love to all,
LaDonna

And her cat. I believe his name was George. He died last year I think. And I bet with that big heart she has, there will be quite a reunion at the Rainbow Bridge. I wonder if they know and are waiting to run into her arms?
-
George and Sydney are getting ready to sniff the air and begin their joyous run to Marybe. She is a very special lady who started this thread and knew our furbabies are an integral part of our treatment. Rest now Marybe and blessings to your family.
-
today, at about 1:10: our beloved Marybe passed from this world.. my prayer is that she is with Sydney, who she sorely missed, and George.. right now..
she passed out of this life, as she did everything, peacefully, and on her own terms..
Barbara A was there with her, and will post later.. I ask for prayers, or good thoughts for her family and friends as they try to learn how to live without her light, as we, also will have to. please also pray for Barbara's coming hone, as she was there to the very end..............3jays
-
I can almost hear the reunion...
-
Hands lifted up in prayer for dear Marybe and Barbs safe journey home....3jays take care dear girl, I know your heart is breaking...Marybe is gone from this world, but will always be in our hearts. Hugs, Kiley
-
And they sniffed the air and ran to Marybe's open arms. Blessings to Barbaara A. and to Marybe's family and many friends.
-
ohh, Karen!!! i so hope thats' tru, and our furbabies wait for us..3jays
-
3jays, I know it must be true, Marybe's arms are full of her lifelong friends. I did not have the pleasure of knowing her, only through her postings, but you get a good measure of a person by their treatment of life's furbabies, and her heart was as big as all outdoors, she would have eventually have gotten that stray baby to her house.
-
So sad today.
-
im trying to get a pic made, to show her with both her furbabies, but its new to me, so don't know if i'll get it.. it comforts me that she'll be with them... She hated the "rainbow bridge" thinking they might be "shut out " of heaven.. we talked last oct about that, and she decided that was the ONE thing she could look forward to when she died.. she loved George,he was her first cat: but syndney, she still cried for..
think she got a "good licking" when she showed up!!!3jays
-
i 3Jays! I look forward to seeing those photos when you get to post them. Thanks Ginger

I clicked on your picture and it took me to where you keep your photos. I then clicked on George and Sydney and stretched them out on my screen here. They are just so sweet. I didn't realize Marybe had a Yorkie. And George is a big beautiful cat. I am sure Marybe was very happy to see them again.
Hugs Ginger
