According to the local newspaper a doe and one of her twin fawns were killed by a hit and run driver. The photographer's family cared for the baby a couple of days until it could be transported to a rescue facility.
-
Awww, I think they should have kept it....the dog obviously loved the fawn.
Guess I am fortunate this does not seem to be skunk territory as it sure does seem like a lot of you have had experiences with them. I know how when your car goes over a dead one in the road, without even having your wheels hit it, the scent seems to stay in the car for the rest of the trip.
-
chabba, cute, cute pics!
just want to report my house and pup smell much better today!
-
Good news on the de skunking!
My dog Stewie went to the groomer again yesterday and did much better. They said he did really well with his nails and touch up trim this time. I am glad because I want him to enjoy going to the groomer or at least not be traumatized. Of course when we came home, I took Stewie right out and he peed on his right front leg again. Maybe he needs a leg snood of some sort.

Now I can see Harley. What a cutie. And the fawn. Oh my!
-
That fawn is just too cute. I saw a mini pig getting coaxed down stairs to eat oatmeal....OMG how cute was he.
I'd love to have one but I think 3 inside cats, 2 inside/outside cats, 1 outside cat that WAS ferel (now sits in my lap) and a Russian Boar that weighs 425# is enough....until we get our chickens......but that mini pig is just too cute....would love to have one......DH would probably have a fit, lol.
I wonder if Santa could bring me one on the sly, rofl???
Have a great weekend!

I just returned this afternoon from visiting 3jaysmom and had a wonderful time. I am attaching a few pet related pics....the two in the carrier are hers on the way to the airport....they love to go in the car so just climbed right into the carrier when they put it on the floor.....I would have to chase ours and shove them in. The one pic is a little dog we saw on the boardwalk when we went down there for dinner and stayed to listen to a group playing Oldies on a stage on the beach. And if you look really close in the last pic up on the window ledge there are some baby birds who were just ready to leave the next.....I discovered them when I was sitting out getting some sun one morning..two days later, they were gone.
-
Mine are "chasers and shovers" too Marybe. Bring the carrier into the room and they both flee.
-
the likttle man has been in the extra bedroom tonight, looking for you, marybe.. wanna bet he gets out, goes to the liv room tonight at 2am to see if you're watching "breaking bad"??!!lol
a good time was had by all.. the diva girl actually laid in bed with marybe a few times.. they DO love their carrier.. they know they're going for rides, so they jump right in..3jays

Had surgery this A.M. and when I came home to go to bed, Sophie and Emma again assumed their positions, Emma on the pillow next to me and Sophie in the crook behind my knees. Our furbabies always know, whatever would we do without them! We all slept from 2 til 6, they got up with me and both got their favorite treats.
-
hope your'e feeling well,, karen.. you came home fast.. take it easy, and let those babies love you back to good healing..3jays
-
Thanks 3jaysmom, they haven't left my side, they usually refuse to sit on the same piece of furniture, but this is a special day - mama was sick. They did the same thing during the last 3 weeks of radiation, we all were napping each day together on the couch. It's an amazing thing.
-
Hello,
karen hope you are still resting and comfortable.
I love this time of year when the baby birds are just fledging and learning to fly and feed. I have lots of bird feeders and I can watch the babies and their mommas come to feed. The baby stays on the tree and the momma gets the seed and brings it to the baby and feeds it. Very cute.
All the little squirrels are out too, but the bigger squirrels are not so nice. Tries to chase them off even tho there is plenty of food. It is very entertaining tho. I have plenty of time these days to just watch.
The dog got skunked again the other night, but not as bad and I was prepared with the right ingredients to wash her down right away.
even tho, my life has slowed down, there is still life happening.

Speaking of baby birds....these guys were just ready to leave the nest when I noticed them above the window sil while sunning on 3jays patio....they were doves and the Mama dove would hang around on the roof and watch them...they were only there for a day after I noticed them and then I guess they flew off to explore the world and hopefully are doing well on their own. I already posted this, but you can see them better in this enlarged pic.
Harley came in and his belly and legs were all wet so I think he may have gotten a little too close to the pond and fell in.
-
Thanks for the bigger pic, marybe. they are real cute. It amazes me how quickly the baby birds grow and leave the nest. They are on the fast track.
-
It is really fun to watch the juvenile Canada geese get their flight training. I've only seen it a couple of times since you have to be watching the sky at the right time in the right place as it only happens once each year. First a small flock takes off, calling, then others join them from all over the vicinity. At first about half of the adults take a loose V formation and the others hang back a bit. Most of the juveniles are flying all over the place, though some of them join the formation. Then the rest of the adults round up the juveniles, goosing them in the rear to get them to get in the right spot in line.
It is a very noisy operation.
-
thats' so cool, you get to watch, chabba..
the birds have not been back, so i assume all is well. i've left the nest where it was, just in case...
my oldest Jay is in Martha vineyard, tonight.. i so wish i was, too.. but, im here with my furbabies, and thats' a good thing.. thanks for enlarging the pic marybe. busy day; i owe you an email..hahaha 3jays

Hi All,
It has been ages since I have posted, just got overwhelmed with so much stuff. Well I have Alfie who is an 8 month old Sheltie and a black cat named Tully who is 10. Alfie is still a puppy and I'm still getting used to a "big" dog,my precious Liesl who died 2 years ago was a long-hair daschund. Anyway not used to Alfie counter sweeping as what I'm told it is called. All of my dishtowels now have bites out of them along with my pot holders! He has also gotten a steak, chicken and several pairs of my magnifying glasses. He also loves to steal all socks - eats out the toes only, shoes and homework! So we have been busy chasing him! Well yesterday, I was getting ready to have my book club over for a swim party and just everything seemed to go wrong, broken AC, broken toilets, broken flood lights, and for the 4th time broken pool! Hard to have a pool party when the pool is trying to drain itself. Anyway, things were a bit stressful and for some reason my alarm also kept beeping saying fire trouble but there was no fire. So part of the icing on the cat started the day out and thought I'd share on this thread what I wrote and sent out to my friends about how the day began: Now Alfie is the puppy and Tully is the cat. Hope this doesn't offend anyone!
It it to be sung to Oklahoma's "Oh what a Beautiful Morning"
Oh what a re-pulsive morning
Oh what a total gross day,
Alfie, ate Tully's dead rat, yes
Oh what a re-pulsive day
He took it outside to play -a
He threw it and caught it again
He took it outside to play, yes
Then ate the entire thing!
Next he came in with his red feet
Yes they were covered in blood,
He came in and guess what came up?
Y-es the fur-er and spine of rat!
Anyway, that is how my day started and I was just so totally horrified it was difficult to get everything done for the party! Oh the joys of our furry children.
-
Oh Stanzie, here's hoping tomorrow is a better day! Puppies do grow up.
-
One member of my WNY group has a puppy that she wonders now why did she rescue, he has provided much laughter for our entire group, though not so frequently for his mama. They do grow up and you will be able to laugh at the memories. He is a counter sweeper also, I had never heard that phrase before but it describes perfectly my 7 year old chocolate lab. He ate a whole pizza minus one slice and there was no stray sauce or crumbs. He has passed on but I remember clearly his antics, he too loved the toes of socks.

New book out by an American vet, documenting the therapeutic benefits resulting from owning a furbaby, from cholesterol, to stress, heart attacks, asthma and more, will try to catch the title. But we all knew that didn't we.
-
Hi and Yes Karen, we all know about the benefits of having furbabies
. Well I think I now have that tune stuck in my head. You are very clever Stanzie.
Hey does anyone know anything about this. My dog Jilly, every night sits quietly then starts snapping like she is catching flies. Seriously, she can do ten snaps in one go and is looking intentely at something as she snaps. We think she must have floaters in her eyes, because there is nothing there. Unless they are microscopic at any rate. We cant see anything, and my other three dogs never do it. She doesn't seem to do it during the day when it is brighter, so my theory is that in the dimness of our loungeroom at night, it's darker but enough light to the floaters in her eyes.
She seems quite ok and it's a bit of a game for her when we talk to her. She really wants to catch one! Should I take her to the vet to get her eyes checked?
-
Aussie - does she do it every night? Does she seem to see all right? My MIL had floaters and she would grab at them sometimes but it was during the day and night - that didn't seem to make a difference to her. Maybe she has fabulous eyesight and can see people that others can't. LOL! wait make that see small bugs and such that others can't! Not sure where that came from Ha ha... I'm leaving it in cause I'm obviously not awake and this struck me as funny!
So you all don't think Afie is just a gross horrid dog I'll tell you a story from yesterday. I'm sitting working on the computer and I hear this odd sound. Alfie is sitting on the sofa with a cat toy. It is one of those mice toys that if you pull its tail it vibrates. Well he figured out how to hold it in his paws and pull the tail with his mouth and lets it vibrate while smiling (as you know Shelties smile) then pulls it again! LOL Brilliant~! Unfortunantly he did it one too many times and broke the toy
-
Woke up this morning and counted seven cat toys our foster cat had brought upstairs for us to play with. He's a sweetie, but 5:30am is TOO early. I think we're going to try to keep him awake more during the day.
-
here's 2 pics.. neither of furbabies (not mine, anyway) but, my GS is in Martha s vineyard, where mac is.. he played hard at state beach yesterday.. then, i got this other pic in y email.. can yousee how similiar they are; or is it only me?? 3jays

LOL - 3Jays!!
Ok, seriously anyone have any brilliant ideas on this dog eating rat issue. The cat has been killing them pretty much non-stop. Where I live there are lots of meadows and open areas so tons of wildlife.... plus the neighborhood was built in the 20's so it is old homes.... Anyway, I'm getting really worried about disease and parasites. Will take him to the vet as soon as I can get an apt. But tried luring him away with cheese or hot dogs something he doesn't normally get but should be a grand treat and no he prefers the rat.... I'm just not sure what to do... The yard is big so I just can't search everywhere.... but getting worried about his health - and then what if a neighbor poisons them? ??? Ugh, do not like this problem at all..... Thanks.
-
here is a silly picture of my dog running thru the dandelions.
Stanzie, I had rats living under my little shed in the back yard for a few years while I had no pets. Now that the neighbor has 2 cats and I have a dog I hardly ever see any rats. Hopefully this is just a phase the puppy is going through. Sorry I don't have any concrete suggestions. I know my dog wants to please me and she would sure know that I was not pleased if she brought a dead animal into my house. I think she is starting to get the idea about the skunk smell. It is just like raising kids, it takes time and comes in stages.
When I think back on how my life was like when my kids were young and I was a busy working single mother, and felt like I had to do it all myself to prove to the world that I could take care of myself and my kids, I would have given myself more of a break. I know at the time I felt overwhelmed, but to tell you the truth I miss those days now. At the time they felt like forever, but now they seem to have gone in a flash.
Hang in there, we are with you in spirit.
