I have really gotten into making my own vinegretes and flavorded vinegars. I use the shaker method, put all into a pint jar cover and shake. One of my favorites is 2 TBLS walnut oil, 4 Tbls olive oil, 1/3 cup champagne vinegar, or white vinegar or I use tarragon vinegar, 1 TBLS real maple syrup or Honey, salt and pepper to taste. Put all in jar and shake well. I made some dried tomatoes this year and put them into a jar with olive oil, I use these in winter salads, and use the oil in vinegretes, my favorite is tomato flavored oil, red wine vinegar, a touch of honey, salt and pepper.
Marinated Mozzerrella
cube fresh mozzerrella, (packaged works too)
add olive oil, dried tomatoes, fresh basil, salt and pepper to taste. Amount of ingredients depends on how much you want to make, need enough to flavor the cheese, when all gone the left over oil if any is a great dipping sauce for bread!

Carolynn79, good to see you again! I like home made anything including dressings. BTW do you make your own mozzerrella? I looked into this...looks like a long process but it might be worth it.
SherryC, how did it go?

Hi all,
We've been eating home made veggie soup this week but I still can't get the weight down. I'm thinking baked air might be a good idea

Buon giorno!
Apple, The first picture I'm successful to post here for weeks! This is your FB picture with your siblings. As I said, we are saving your seat at the table. We are missing your beautiful music.

Buon giorno!
Apple's picture made me think to my family. This was taken at the weekly Wednesday night dinner. The occasion was suggested by my sister Jacqui many years ago when one of our brothers was making daily hospital visits for his daughter. At that time only he and his wife were at the table. Then came others to offer support. Then came the tradition to get together every Wednesday night. That tradition continues today. As does mom at the head of the table saying Grace.
I think of our virtual family here in much the same way. I'm so glad to see you all come to the table and share our meals.
Best wishes to all as always,
Marilyn

Apple hope all is well.
Looking at seed catalogs, not ready for gardening yet but nice to dream of Spring!! We had lots of home canned goodies tonight, saurkraut, pickled beets, cucumber pickles and corn, guess we were in pickled mode!! Of course had sausage but store bought. Scheduled for ultra sound guided breast biopsy tomorrow, oh well the journey continues. Hubby is taking me out for a late lunch afterwards, have to go 78 miles and nice local restaurant is halfway home so will take advantage of it. Hope everyone is enjoying good friends, family and food!! Hubby and I are going to Kauai again in February looking forward to frolicking in the ocean and enjoying good local fresh tropical produce!

Carolynn79, Seed catalogs! Yes! It won't be long now. And I second Teka's "Damn!". Stopping for lunch at our favorite place became our routine after long mornings at the hospital. Wishes that all goes well for the bx and that your lunch selection is divine.
Other than copy/paste photos from FB, I still don't know how to get my pics up here or why the problem. I'm thinking that the program on my Mac is no longer happy with Photobucket or visa versa. The orange tree is fruitful and giving us spheres the size of grapefruit. The blood reds are not yet read...next month. The winter has been mild so far with some frost this morning but otherwise it's been like Spring. I planted basil in a tiny greenhouse on the balcony, but that recently whithered. The parsley is hanging on though. So is the lettuce.
We will be leaving here soon and expect to be in Medford Oregon by June 1. So I'll be organizing my garden around a new sun, new earth, new wind, new rains...but not new friends. I'm bringing you all along. My friends and family in US are very happy to know we'll be "closer". We'll be happy for a one level house within short flights to my sons.
Apple, I remember when you moved to your new house in Kansas. You embraced it quickly. You also found your way around the deer who grazed on your plants or you learned to share them. Home is where the heart is. Yours is a big heart.
Best wishes to all as always,
Marilyn

Marilyn I hope your move goes well, from what I saw Oregon is a food lovers paradise and has good weather to grow a variety of flowers, herbs and vegetables. Also they have great reisling!! Our lemon tree appears to be dying, we have had it in and out of the house for 7 years but all teh leaves are falling and I see no sign of new life beginning, we shale try another one as we really enjoy it. If you have any advise it would be appreciated!
My sisters and I are all starting to save seeds, I will try to save extra to share with any of you. I may have some this spring but have to check out my stash! Along with the biopsy this week I had another flare upfrom a stubborn cold/flu (pretty sure cold), had to go to clinic yesterday and have bronchitis and sinus infection so doing not much this week end, sleeping, magazine reading, and gabbing here! Hope all have a nice weekend. Did make some nice potaote vegtable chowder yesterday, thinking some broccoli soup for today making some bread the rise fell so I put all in the fridge and it cool rose last night so think I can make a free form loaf to have with my soup. I have also found that if you throw a fallen batch of bread on the fride it will keep and you can usually make pizza dough or flat bread, the dough keeps 10-14 days if it does not have a lot fo fat in it.

Buon giorno,
It's a bit of a distance for many of us to bring a dish by for the family meals. The family made a suggestion.

Carolynn79 .... about the lemon tree .... here's the advice from DH:
Maybe the movement: Move just when the weather is changing, not when the move to in or out doors is a great difference of temperature.
Maybe trimming: When you trim, be certain to do just before the buds grow to bloom. There are web sites to help know how.
Last year's winter and snow was too much for our lemon tree. It took much coaxing to bring it back and it's not fully convinced that it wants to give the fruit it once did.
We'll be doing this too with both orange and lemon. I'll let you know how it turns out. The oranges this year are bigger than grapefruits. This past Fall we had blossoms and fruit growing at the same time...never happened before. The fruit has a wonderful flavor.
Did I mention that Stella got into our trash to pull out the orange peels? She loves to eat the white inside. For humans, that part helps clean toxins in the gall bladder and liver. I wonder if it works the same for dogs? But our other dog Napo has no interest in the peels beyond wanting to take what she has. Then when he gets it into his mouth, he spits it out. He has a slobber saliva..she doesn't. It must be in the genes.
Best wishes to all as always,
M

Thanks, it is funny you mention the blossoms and fruit at the same time, ours is always like that. It was very wet heavy rains when we brought it in, I did trim it and we are seeing a few new leaves but will look on the internet so we trim correctly. I looked today and on the side where all the leaves did not fall off there are 2 small lemons hanging on hopefully they will stay on. The oranges sound great, I guess I should eat more of the white pith, my DH does but I peel as much off as possible! We sure hope we have a normal spring so we have fruit this year, really missed our, apples, peaches, plums, cherries, and apricots last year! We are making a new venison dish tonight will forward if it is good! That is funny how some dogs like certain fruits! We used to have a cat who loved the pimento in green olives she would roll it around until she got it out and then would eat it but not the olive!
Best wishes
Carol

Teka a cat that likes peanut butter, did she make funny faces if it stuck to her tounge!! I find that by totally ignoring my christmas cactus in the winter very little water and then placing out on the east deck in the summer keeping moist that it does well. We bring in once evenins drop into 50's on a regular basis. I just took it to the basement for a bit and then will bring back up in a month or so. I do not have luck with slips either but my sister does, she uses a rooting hormeone on the end and puts in soil, works everytime!

Buon giorno,
Sure would like to see a blue sky for a change. It's been weeks of clouds, rain and more rain. I talked to my friend in Rome who said "What rain?" Lucky us I guess only 1 hr. NW!
The good news is that the rain is cleaning the garden very well and caring for the orange trees.
We had my favorite salad last night...oranges with back olives, a spritz of herbs and drizzled with olive oil. This was our side dish to pork chops.
For one brief day, I broke a sound barrier of weight and put it back on the next. But the downside is in sight. I need a dose more of exercise to keep it going on the down slope.
Best wishes to all as always,
Marilyn
