Is anybody out there from the Triad & Trangle area?

Hi Holli,
I'm about an hour north of Greensboro. I'm much closer to the Triad area than the gals in Northern VA. There are quite a few of us in the Triad area.
I'll help spread the word and hopefully more will visit this thread!

I would love to meet you but I live farther west - Hickory area.

hi Holli, Bren and Sheila,
I am in Albemarle, NC....east of Charlotte. Great to get the NC women a thread going.

Hi Amber, Holli and Sheila,
Sheila, I know you have met Naniam in Hickory, and I have gotten together with Naniam a few times, either in Hickory or Statesville.
Winston or Statesville might be a good central location for us all. Statesville's about 2 hours from me, but I don't mind the drive to meet everyone.
We used to live in Huntersville and Tim is from Hickory .. so I know my way around.
Hope to get to meet up. I know there are lots of other gals from around this area ... we just need to find them!

Hi Bren..just saw your name up there and wanted to give you a hug
-
Hi Lisa ... hugging you right back!!!
-
I would love to have a group of fellow BC survivors get together sometime in the Triad. I live in Jamestown, 10 miles from Greensboro. I am sure that there are others out there who would like to join us all.
-
I am in High Point
-
I am in Fort MIll, SC, just south of Charlotte. I haven't heard of anything in this area, but would be willing to make the drive up if you get together.
-
Hi Everyone!
I'm in High Point too.
I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a BS for me? I want a second opinion... Thanks!
-
Hi Liz, I live North of Hickory. My BS moved to Charlotte last year. I will pm you his name if you are willing to go that far.

I think we need to plan a get together!

My Battle - My Victory
Yesterday I fought a Battle, But I did not fight alone-
I had a Protector - A Guide, I was never on my own
This enemy came to me suddenly, No warning as to prepare-
And before I knew what happened, this enemy was everywhere.
I felt so overwhelmed; Did no one know my pain?
How could this be happening to me, How did it know my name?
Today I fight this battle, The enemy with me still
It has not yet taken control, Nor has it broke my will
It is hurtful and it is cruel, It doesn't care the damage it causes
It is wearing down my defenses; I can soon count my losses.
It is ruthless and emotionless, Its purpose to destroy
I can not, must not let it, Will not let it have control
Hear me when I tell you, Please listen when I say
I have many scars from this battle; I do struggle from day to day It takes many things from me; Within my body it has much power
It affects loved ones around me; The battle has become a war
You may not know by looking at me, Then again maybe you can, That this enemy shows no mercy, I fall when I can no longer stand
It does not care what age you are, or your status here on Earth It doesn't count your income, or what you think you are worth
This battle that I speak of, Cancer is its name
And because I continue to fight, I will never be the same!
Tomorrow may never come for me; I live only in the present
My life is right here, right now, What I have is this very moment
But I will continue to fight, For I learned down on my knees is where I fight this battle, It is where God gives me the victory. -
Are any of you planning on doing the Komen Race for the Cure in Charlotte on Oct. 3? If so, you're welcome to join my team - the more the merrier!
-
I am doing the Komen Race for the Cure NC Foothills in Hickory on Oct 17. Anyone is also welcome to join my team 'Friends of Survivors'. This will be my 9th year and the NC Foothills 10th year. I started my team just after my mom was dx in August 01, then I was dx in april 07.

Hello ladies,
I live in south Charlotte but, would also be willing to drive a little to meet.
Carolinachick - I will be doing the race also.
-
nasharayne - that's great! Are you forming a team or running as an individual? You're welcome to join my team "Saving Second Base" if you want to do the team thing. Either way I'd love to meet up with you sometime on race day. I noticed that our diagnosis dates and statistics are very similar, other than the her2 status. Who is your onc?
-
I completely forgot about this page until I did the race today.
Carolinachick - My onc is Dr. Limentani in Ballentyne. Sorry I couldn't join your team, I walked with my boyfriend and bestfriend.
-
He's my onc as well, although I go to the office uptown. I hope you enjoyed the walk on Saturday. It was beautiful weather and great to see over 14,000 people walking and running to support breast cancer research and awareness!
-
I saw the start of the race on WBTV at 8:00 am and it was impressive. The Foothills race is October 17th in Hickory at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Last year we had 1,750 people at the race, this year we are hoping to pass 2,000. I have 18 people signed up on my team, largest I have had since I started organizing teams in 2001.

Hey, I am very inspired by this forum. We are actually having a Show on Sunday and we need a breast cancer survivor to speak as part of our motivational speakers. The event is about women taking care of themselves. It's called DIVAS Trunk Show, event starts from 2pm until 5pm and it's free to attend. If anyone is interested, please let me know and i will add you into the program. Even if you don't want to be a guest speaker, feel free to attend. It's at 709 E Market St Greensboro, NC 27401. Call 336-275-1466 for more information.
-
Carolinachick - What a small world, you didn't happen to see Dr. Turk too did you?
-
Sheila - Have fun at the Race! I thought that I would be more emotional, but I actually just had fun and enjoyed being with my friends and family that morning. It was wonderful to have my "cheering squad" with me.
Nwanna - I wish I could participate. Unfortunately I'll be out of town this weekend. Hopefully one of our other ladies can come - it sounds like a great event!
Nasharayne - I didn't see Dr. Turk. Is he/she an oncologist, surgeon or radiologist? Dr. Sarantou at Blumenthal Cancer Center was my surgeon, and Dr. Bobo is my radiologist. I can't believe that we were diagnosed three weeks apart.
-
Carolinachick, talk about small world, Dr Sarantou was my surgeon when he was in Hickory! He did my first biopsy and lumpectomy in Feb 2005 and followed me every 6 months until he went to Charlotte in 2008. He was also my mom's surgeon in 2001 and saw her every year. If I have to have any more surgery I will go to Charlotte and have him do my work.
I get emotional every year at the race, even before my diagnosis. I have a 'sponge heart' that is so filled up with tears that when God reaches down and squeezes, the tears just flow.
Sheila
-
Sheila,
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Sarantou. My husband says it's because during our consultation he kept saying that breast cancer was rare in "young women" like myself (I was 44 at dx).
I think he was very empathetic with my husband, since his wife is my age. He did a great job and I wouldn't think of going to anyone else if I needed any more surgery.
I think next year the race may be more emotional for me. This year I just felt so joyous to be out there and able to walk, especially since six months ago I was in the throes of chemo. It was a beautiful day and I just wanted to enjoy every moment of it.
We need to plan some sort of get-together for us Carolina Girls. I know the holidays are coming up, but maybe sometime in January or February when we could all use a pick-me-up?

Jennifer, I was 44 at my first dx of ADH. He listened to my concerns about taking tamox at my age (along with the family history of ovarian cancer) and let me make the decision to not take it at age 44, but 18 months later (46th birthday) after 2nd dx of ADH, he said that tamox was no longer optional, but mandatory and to consider pbm because the question was not if I developed bc but when. He still did listen to my concerns and checked out the use of Evista instead of tamox in pre-meno women before telling me that evista was out.
My mom loved him so much that when his wife was expecting their first child, she made a quilt for the baby. We (myself, mom, and sister) went to a discussion about genetics and breast cancer at Frye Regional (hickory hospital) and he dropped by carrying his lovely baby.
It does sound like fun to try and organize a get together after the first of the year.

Carolinachick - I know so weird on the dx. Dr. Turk is a surgeon. I also went to Dr. Bobo. I guess Charlotte isn't that big.
Yeah, I thought I would be emotional during the race also but, I'm glad I wasn't.
-
I guess Im the furthest out so far - I live in Jacksonville, about 30 minutes from the coast-2 hours from Raleigh, an hour from Wilmington..at least theres some NC women here! Hi!
-
I live in Goldsboro! 5 year survivor...well almost December 23 is my 5 year anniversary!
-
I live in Cary, nC!
-
