Motivation

Huge thanks to all of you for your support. I think deep down I know this is the right thing as I am spending so much time on pain killers for the pelvic pain, that my stomach is now complaining. It was when I had to go get bloodwork to be crossed matched for surgery that I got a bit freaked, never had to have that with any of my other surgeries. I think that is what has me flip flopping on my decision, I know this is for the best. Just want it to be over so I can get back on to the motivational trail with the rest of you. Hate to admit, haven't done a thing since returning home from vacation. My body and mostly my brain is still on Maui time!
Well, keep on everyone, more people means more motivation!
Hey Patoo, where are you? Lisa too, did I miss Oprah?
Thanks again everyone.
-
Penny, wow I didn't realize you were having surgery and questioning your decision. As Helena said on another thread...STUPID BC!! I hope you find some peace in your decision and we are all with you this week my dear sister. I am sending you big big hugs right now. I just got teary eyed...shoot! Best of luck.
This quote seemed appropriate:
The mind that is anxious about future events is miserable.
SenecaHugs to all! Helena and Ainm! You go girls!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!!!
-
Ladies--felt like I missed a lot and its only been a day!
Kari--CONGRATS!! That's a big accomplishment!
Penny--good luck whatever you decide. We'll all be sending our best, healing thoughts your way.
AinM--you rock lady!! Sounds like you are actually doing a lot for where you are out of treatment. Great job!
I went for a great hike today with the Beemer--DH went biking nearby. Got some great climbing in which felt good. Stopped by a fun outdoor restaurant on the way home that has wonderful, fresh, local and sustainable food. My favorite is an amazing salad with tuna, fennel, olives, red onions and huge cranberry beans with lot of olive oil. YUM. I think it's pretty healthy--and I keep reading how good beans are.
Also went to see the Julie & Julia movie--so fun! DH liked it too. Have a great evening ladies!! You are all so brave, lovely, sweet, thoughtful and motivating! (Thought you should know...!)
-
Penny ~ I hate that we have to make these kind of decisions about our bodies. I will be thinking of you Thursday, please know we all will be "with" you.
Ainm ~ I am so proud of you, you are really getting into a routine. Keep on keeping on!
Sleep tight sister-friends,
((hug))

Penny -You go girl! I had to have blood during chemo. I was scared too but the chemicals we have been given to kill the BC killed other stuff too and now you have to get jump started to go on. I wish you the best and love ya. Cyber hugs and wishes to ya. the weekend saying Arrrgh!! Joy

Good morning cuties!
DH left very very early for the week this a.m. so I went for my walk and for the first time took his IPOD, what fun was that?! Walked about 55 min, but it just got too hot out there and I was really thirsty. Yesterday did some arm work on the home gym, it felt good. Lunch with Dad and his girlfriend was nice but brief, as my dad likes it! haha...going to a friend's for dinner and to take her teenage daughter out for a mock 'driving test', she has a DMV appt on Wed for her license. Hope she doesn't flip out!! haha
Hope you all have a wonderful day! Thinking of ya and love to you all!

Hi All, Feeling a bit sorry for myself today - lots of aches and pains!! Still walking and doing Wii Fit. But oh the aches in my legs and feet and I'm tired! Hope everything is going well for you all. Take Care XX
-
Ainm - sorry you are down with the aches and pains! Are the pains treatment related do you think or exercise related? Time to pamper those tootsies maybe with a nice foot soak and rub!!
Where is everyone??
I couldn't sleep well so got up and walked 1.5 miles on the treadmill before work. Feelin pretty good now but its been a busy work day.
Make it a GREAT day all!

Kari - I had bad muscle and joint pains after chemo (taxol) which hadn't cleared completely when I started Tamox, My onc told me to start pain killers when I started Tamox because he said the Tamox could aggravate the pains - well it looks like that is happening. As well as that I am doing about an hour between walking and Wii Fit every day and I guess my system is not use to that and I guess my weight on my legs might be compounding things. I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself.
Your saying is so apt - maybe I just need to work at getting out of this slump.
Hope you get a chance to relax yourself!! Thanks!!

Met a group of our BC ladies from Ont on Sunday. We all agreed exercise was inportant for us now. That was just extra motivation for me!!!
-
Hi BCO team,
Just went for big walk with DD (dear dog) as it is my non-running day - must say the old muscles are creaking after 3 runs in 5 days. I have also contacted some of my friends from Sydney who I used to work with and we are planning to meet up this time next year to do the City to Surf which is now the largest fun run in the world. 14km and this year they had 75,000 entrants. I have done it 3 times before but not since I have had children (10 years) and stupid BC. I'm really excited as it is something to aim for and also believe in my good health for the years to come.
hugs to all
Helena

Helena: that sounds like a wonderful plan.
I have not been the best at organizing exercise but I did buy a pedometer. To my surprise I always walk at least 3 miles a day and more often than not it is 5 miles. That is the advantage of living downtown in a city....it is easier to walk most places than it is to drive and find parking. Even on my vacation I walked 5 miles most days because I was in cities (in Europe so it was great).
I have been reading this page for a long time for inspiration. As soon as I get the OK from my doc I will join a gym. You ladies are amazing!

Dear cuties,
I bet you've all forgotten who I am, I've been away for so long! I went to a Yoga Retreat at the Beach for BC survivors... It was like HEAVEN. We did Yoga on the beach each day at 7AM, then swam in ocean! I think it was a thing from my bucket list that I didn't even know I had!!! Lots of walking on the beach and Yoga a few times a day.
Didn't gain too much weight, and exercised last night, 40 min on Eliptical, and sweat till I was dripping!
I could not read all your updates - I am trying to catch up at work! I just wanted to send you all my LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
Spring (Beverly)
-
Spring =where was the retreat at? We have yoga for cancer survivors once a week.
Still babying the blister area on my heels. Heat index over 100 this week. So the mutt and I are staying inside most of the day. Hot flashes will keep me warm enough!
Having my first mamo since last year on Wednesday. Won't find out the results till the 20th. Not looking forward to this. Also having more blood work done. Does this ever end?
-
Joy, we were at the Trinity Center in Salter Path. I'll let you know next year when sign up starts in case you want to come!
First mammo, hang in there...
Spring.
-
Spring ~ Your retreat sounds wonderful!
Helena ~ Love your plans to do the City to Surf fun run! You go girl!
Kari ~ How'd the mock driving test go?
Joy ~ Are you sure they'll make you wait for the results of your mammo? Many places don't when we're in the position we are now, as they understand it's especially stressful, so will read them while you wait. But we'll be thinking about you, and praying that everything is clear.Mandy ~ Glad you're getting some serious walking in, and hope you'll soon be able to join a gym.
I did a total of 15.54 miles last week -- or 31,080 steps further away from bc! vivre, I can't tell you how motivating I'm finding that image of yours!
And, Lisa, like everyone else, I'm still waiting to hear about your Zumba performance! Deanna
-
Hi Cuties!
Spring, good thing you checked in today cause I was getting worried about you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need me some Spring each day! LOL!!! That yoga retreat sounds wonderful! Good for you!
Helena, you are a true runner, which I'm not cause when I read your post I said "fun run??...well that doesn't sound too fun to me"!! haha!! I laughed! You Go Girl!!
The heat is cookin in a lot of areas right now, thinkin of you girls! I was drippin last night...another Spare the Air day here but should ok tomorrow.
Deanna and Mandy - that's a lot of walking! Wow, very inspiring to me! The driving test went ok, but she sure doesn't pay attention much, and that scares me with teens on the road! YIKES!!! She's 18 so she never had to take behind the wheel lessons, and I think it should be mandatory after that lesson!! Anyway, I gave her all sorts of advice and she really appreciated it. You know how you tend to listen to adults other than your parents at that age.
Make it a great one!
Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul.

Kari--love that quote!
Spring--(I'm still calling you Spring since that seems to fit your sunny personality!) I thought of you today as I FINALLY got to the gym. First time on the elliptical since BC. I did not go for as long as you but went 1.2 miles at a good pace. I also did some stretching, abs and free weights which I also haven't done much of as I was afraid of LE. So if I combine the yoga with some gym and the daily time with the pooch, I should stay in decent shape. Then of course I need to make friends with my bike again!! My DH is a cycling fiend--really loves it which is great.
Also I would love to do a yoga retreat--want to find one that is one overnight vs many of them are 2-3 nights... it does sound like heaven!
-
Hi beauties!!!
Kari, good to hear from you. Love that Emily Dickenson!! "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul". How beautiful. Like Word Art!!
Allie, Howdie girlie! GOOD FOR YOU!!! 1.2 miles on an eliptical is a GREAT start!!! Plus the weights! Woot!
I didn't get to my 40 min eliptical sweat yesterday. Had dinner and movie with girlfriends (one's husband just left her, but she is doing so good,!! happy to report!) and then finishing up the painted kitchen table for DD's first apartment! I made the deadline!
Tonight for sure. Back on the program!!!
-
Good Morning All, Just got back from long walk with DIL, dont know how many miles but it was 6800 steps, pretty good I think! Everyone have a wonderful day. Kathy
-
6800 is great salty!!
-
Didn't sleep well at all last night. Guess I was worried about the mammo this morning. It has been done and now I wait till next week. Welcome to stoneage!! The films are sent to Atlanta and then back to the doctor. I can hear the thunder in the area so we are going to have storms from the sea breeze. And now the tropics are starting to gear up with storms. Having bloodwork done in a few. then I go back to my ONC next week too. The car is having the oil changed and tires rotated too. Might as well have everything done in one day. I'm off on Thursday and don't plan on moving from here. Plus it is suppose to be in the upper 90's and that doesn't include the heat index. I need a nap! Have a great day. Joy
-
salltykm ~ 2,000 steps is one mile. 6800 steps is awesome!
Kari ~ Love the Emily Dickens quote! You must have a huge book of great quotes.
Spring ~ What color did you paint the table? White or ??? We need a pix!
I wonder if Lisa is having a computer problem? I think she had 2 girls to get ready for school, but it's been ages since she's checked in. Lisa, where are you?????
Deanna
-
Joy!!! a week! I can't stand it!!! You need to go to a different diagnostic imaging place next time! Yes, that is the flippin STONE AGE!!!!! Can you look into a different facility! I would I tell you!!! (That really stinks!)
Hi Deanna, you wonderful woman, you!!! The table was bare wood, a drop leaf table!. I primered it, painted it a glossy white all over, and then added big, medium, and smaller dots of a pleasant shade of blue, green and yellow! Last night 2 coats of polyurithayne...

Deanna thanks for the info, I was pretty proud. My DIL has lost 50 lbs, and is now a a stand still so we are trying to motivate each other. Am trying for a little more each week.
-
Spring ~ That is too cute!!!!!! As an antiques dealer, I can tell you that would sell in a heartbeat! Great job!
-
Spring, I agree, that is adorable!
-
It was so fun!!! I just loved doing it!! And now there are 4 chairs left to do!
Do you think the fumes from paint and polyurithayne are bad for us though? This was the only thing robbing my joy.
Sorry, this is not exercise related!!! :O
-
Joy, I can't believe you have to wait for a mammo. Even though I do not do them anymore. I knew the next day. The radiologist would read it and send the report to the doc. Waiting is so hard. Just another reason why I am so happy with thermography. You can see everything right there. You also get a copy of your images. It is so easy to notice any changes. And since they are looking for blood flow to any tumor, they can actually spot things earlier. I will never have a mammo again. If my therm looks suspicous, I will have an US followup. There is more evidence mounting about the effects of radiation from mammos and the fact that the compression can cause cancer cells to actually spread. It makes me so furious that they still insist that this is the only way to go when we have an alternative that has the same rate of detection. Again, it is all about the $$$$$.
-
Joy I know how you feel, had a mammo on Mon., still waiting, will call surgeon tomorrow.
