Apprehensive about a tropical storm coming this way. When we'd lived in this house 3 weeks, one moved in and the resulting rain meant the den ceiling fell in. Turned out there was a crack around a vent pipe. I certainly hope everything is still sealed because I don't want to have to call my husband and tell him "the sky is falling" again.

Morning all
Sorry I haven't been on for a while, but have been dealing with another major upset. My DD- the one I live with in Fl, broke her ankle late Sat afternoon. We went to the ER where my son works, but of course he had left minutes before we arrived. We were only in the waiting room for less than 15 min, before being taken back. Both the on call Dr and paramedic that put the "cast " on knew Tim and contacted him while we were there to insure him they were taking good care of his big sister. That Dr said that he wasn't an orthopedist, but from the X-rays taken, the broken bone was not weight bearing and should not be at all complicated. WRONG!!! When we saw an actual orthopedist yesterday he ordered one additional X-Ray, and gave us the bad news that 2 bones are broken, one is weight bearing and she needs surgery with plates and screws and recovery will be 3 months minimum after surgery. We are going for a second opinion tomorrow. Today, we are going to try to find a walker to replace crutches as she had already fallen using the crutches. We are also going to her work, to see if they will allow her to work from home. If not, I will have to drive her back and forth each day and it is a 35-40 min drive each way without traffic. We also have to find her some pants that will fit over cast. Right now, she had only one pair of sweats that work.
At least I am not bored anymore

I need to RANT
I am livid. The DD, SIL and his son have been here for 2 weeks from Florida. David Jr. is an absolute BRAT he is 13. This morning they were packing up. DD was putting things together out of the bed room and elsewhere. SIL asked David Jr. what Alice was doing and he told him she was watching TV. She was packing and then would set for a minute and get up and do some more. SIL came in and jumped all over DD. Told him she had been packing bags and sending them out with David Jr. When David Jr came back into the house and we were alone I let him have it. I told him he was a spoiled brat always had to have his way and he was a trouble maker. He never helps out and I was sick of it. He was not welcome back to my home until he decided to grow up. I will probably send my SIL an e-mail later also.
David Jr.'s Dad does not make him do anything, they stay up all night and play on the X box. I would not let them bring it to my house. He has all D's in school. I would like to take a 2X4 to them both. My daughter is not without fault, she does the best she can. I just now want to lay down and cry for the rest of the day.
I had a hard first two days off the med. I was very depressed. It was better until all of this.
Thanks for letting me Rant Hugs
-
Mommarch, I'm sorry the visit caused you stress. That's something you don't need right now. You have enough to cope with. Hope you can put the bratty kid out of your thoughts. Hugs to you.

Tues. is $2.99 bargains at Fresh Market. Chicken breasts and ground chuck. I bought some of both, probably my last shopping trip to the store before we depart next Friday.
Just now when I arrived home, I turned on the Food Channel. The Barefoot Contessa was making cooking packets with fish. I thought about you, Bedo. She was using parchment paper.
Dinner menu hasn't made itself known yet. Maybe Greek Lemon potatoes.
-
Mommarch -- whew !!! Good for you getting that off your chest --- not only to us but to David Jr., as well. It is something he needed to hear. This young man's father has no idea what a dis-service he is doing by letting his son be pretty much in charge. I will hope that some eye-opening took place and that things might change a little for the better. One never knows and can just only hope.
It is far different these days then when we were raised -- and I have to admit we didn't raise our kids as well as I would have liked. They are not the worst, but far from the best too. My kids fell into the generation where disciplinary principals changed a lot. You were basically "discouraged" from spanking etc. The kids knew this and took some advantage.
I hope you are able to get rested now that your company is gone. Sure sorry it had to end on an un-pleasant note. Hopefully, everything will get better soon.
Anne, I'm so sorry for your daughter. Sure was good you were back there --- as she really needs you. You're right -- no boredom for you, young lady. I do hope that things get straightened out and that there are as few complications as possible.
Well, we are on our way to Salem. Tomorrow I will be working extra --- from 9:45 to about 4 p.m. It is good for me. So, have to get some of my running done today. Also have to call the tree guy. Don't know that he could do it tomorrow, but at least we could make a "date" I think.
Will see you all later.
Blessings,
Jackie

Anne, I, too, am sorry about your daughter's injury. As Rosanna Dana said, "It's always SOMETHING!"
I'm very tired tonight. I went to the gym this morning. After breakfast, I took a few clubs to the driving range and hit some golf balls. That went pretty well but by the time I finished practicing putting, my foot told me it was time to sit down. Next I went to Fresh Market and took advantage of $2.99 specials on chicken breasts (no antibiotics) and ground chuck. Then this afternoon I went to Belk dept. store and took advantage of the senior discount of 20 percent off most items, even sales items. I got some good buys on three pairs of cropped pants and three blouses, two of them a little dressy.
Wishing everyone a good evening.
-
Your shopping trip sounded great Carole. I love bargains -- but seldom shop enough for clothes to do too well. Still --- finding great things just makes you feel good.
Jackie
-
Jackie, I'm not a good clothes shopper. I lack that knack of being able to buy items that go with a lot of things already hanging in the closet.
-
I make a wardrobe plan every season. Then I see where the holes are and what I need. Doesn't mean I can find it though. Been looking for navy blue slacks all spring & summer. Nowhere to be had. Of course, if I wanted to spend the money I could go to LLBean or I could get off my butt and make them. Don't hold your breath. The plan does show you that you need something to go with something else. I was a travel agent for 20 years and all my clothes were for trips. I carry on, so everything had to mix and match.

Hi everyone!!!
I'm new here and not very good at posting, but I've been reading all of your comments, suggestions, daily activities, and oh so hilarious happenings!!! All of you are phenomenal and amazing and so very positive about things that we can't control. What I've read that truly inspires me is the fact that we all have or had breast cancer, and yet the emphasis is not on that, but on our daily lives and how we live with the "C" word and go on with what makes us happy!!! I don't quite fall into the "older" people with BC as I'm only 58, but I honestly feel like this is the thread that I like the most. In reading your posts it makes me think of what's truly important, and that having breast cancer is truly a "bump" in the road. I'm complete with my treatment of DCIS: 2 Lump, rads, and now on Arimidex, and I try so very hard to put this behind me, but many days it pops up again! I'm not on FACEBOOK or any other computer website, so it's kind of amazing even to me that I've found this one, and this thread to be so inspiring!!! I too am a grandmother of a beautiful little 3 yr old little girl (Aubrey) and her precious little brother (Brantley) that keeps me going even though I don't get to see them very much as they live in NC at Camp Lejeune. I live and was born just outside of Washington, DC. I enjoy so much of what many of you do, gardening, crocheting (I'm not that good at it), reading, cutting out coupons, however, my favorite thing is buying for the 2 little stinkers!! My daughter says that I buy way too much, but because I love couponing I get many, many things very cheap and sometimes FREE!!! My DH and I love to go to Estate Sales on Saturdays and there again I buy things for the 2 special little people that are my world!!! To little Aubrey she says, "grandma bring me presents" and grandma BRINGS her presents!! My DH is even worst----he bought her an expensive swing set and one of those motorized cars!!! Now…… it couldn't be the 6 volt, it had to be the 12 volt, and she has now learned how to drive it----around in circles only!!!!! My daughter says in few years she'll probably ask for a BMW or Mercedes and no doubt, he will get it!!!! Geesh, we are hopeless!!!
Thanks to all of you for your concern, support, and caring for each other!! I look forward to getting to know many of you and sharing the daily ups and downs of living!!!! …..and BC, it stinks, but having friends that have had it and go through it with you, make it a heck of lot easier!!!

Cindielm,
I can't stay this morning -- early work and no quote till later, but I so wanted to welcome you to the thread we who are here love so much. You are the perfect age to be here --- why you can even find out where the creaks and groans may turn up if you hang around with the "oldies" but we are "goodies" as well. At any rate, we are delighted you want to spend wonderful time ( every day is a treasured gift ) with us. In time lots will get on here and say hi too............my work day will be later than usual, about 4 p.m. or so ---- but I'll definitely be back. See you then.
Hi to everyone else and will see you all later too.
Blessings,
Jackie

Welcome Cindielm
You are right, you have found a wonderful group. This is a safe place for us all, to share and vent when necessary, but much more often to just share the details of our lives as we adjust to life post BC. Like you, my greatest joy in life is my grandchildren. I am a 66 year old widow with 5 children and 6 grandchildren. My oldest DD (dear daughter) lives near Atlanta, Ga with my two oldest grandsons. The oldest one and I have an incredibly close bond. He is going into 11th grade, taking all AP Classes and maintaining straight A's. His brother, going into 8th grade, is also a straight A student in all gifted classes. I split my time between them and my home in Ft. Laud, Fl, where I have lived since 1973 (this house since 1978). Here I live with Dd#2, and her 12 year old son , who once again is a gifted, straight a student, going into 7th grade. Then DD#3 lives about 15 minutes from me and she is the mother of my first, absolutely incredible granddaughter, who will be 10 this summer, and a 6 year old always surprising grandson. My oldest son, my second child, lives near Charlotte, NC and is the father of an almost 2 year old girl, who is indescribably adorable. My youngest son is engaged, so no kids yet.
I travel between So Fla and Atlanta, with side trips to Charlotte when in Atlanta. I was DX and treated at Emory University in Atlanta, and couldn't have received better or more loving at home care from my daughter and her husband.
I am very excited because for the 4th of July, I will have all 5 children and all 6 grandchildren here with me. It will be the first time since my husband of 42 years passed3 years ago. At the time, of course, Lucia wasn't even born.
I look forward to getting to know you better and having you as part of our circle

Welcome Cindielm! We're not fussy about numbers, so if you feel you fit in you do. I have 4 GS (grandsons). One is leaving today for ROTC training at Ft Knox. One is almost done with college and two are in grade school. I'm hoping to see the younger ones over July 4th. I'm taking painting lessons in my retirement. Not intending to be awesome but would like to sketch places we go.

Nature hasn’t blended your mind so completely with your body, as to deny you the power of limiting yourself and bringing under control everything that you are. Always bear that in mind and, with it, remember how little is needed to live a happy life. Just because you’ve given up on becoming a great logician or a student of physics, don’t despair of being free, modest, unselfish, and obedient to the will of God. It’s quite possible to become a great sage and yet never be recognized. -Marcus Aurelius

Well, here I am back. So glad the rain waited until I got off work. We have had lots of thunder and lightning and just got done with a major downpour. It just comes so fast and furious that we can see big splashes of water flowing off the garage. Just so much water. Though I mentioned we should be fine --- there could easily be some places in town that are needing to drain -- may take a bit too. Crooked Creek was well over the banks and has been for several days -- so if not higher, I bet it is right back where it was.
I don't have to work tomorrow --- nice to get a day off late in the week. All this rotten weather has worn me down a bit anyway. Starting to really notice the lack of sun for long enough though surprisingly we have gotten a little almost every day......but I could use a bit more. Hopefully --- pretty soon we will get through this REALLY wet period. Of course, our luck --- who knows -- then this clears it could be the last rain of the season. Boy, I sure hope that doesn't happen.
Will see you all a little later.
Blessings

Welcome, Cindielm. I hope you'll chime in and tell us what's going on with you. You're allowed to complain and let off steam when it's necessary for your peace of mind.
I had a successful shopping trip with my mother today. My younger sister accompanied us. We went to a carpet store where my mother found carpet for her two bedrooms. We stated to the sales girl that we were looking for flat carpet because my mother gets around her house in an electric wheelchair and we also wanted a carpet that wasn't too expensive. She said, "I have just the thing you're looking for!" And sure enough she did. The price was great and included moving furniture. My mother has hated the carpet in these two bedrooms for years so she's thrilled over replacing it. It's good to be thrilled at age 92!
Before returning to her house, we stopped for lunch.
Wren, I could use you as a wardrobe consultant. Interesting that you should mention navy slacks. I bought a pretty blouse yesterday that is rather dressy. I will wear it with white cropped pants but it would also go with navy and I don't have any navy pants that fit at my current weight. So I'll be on the lookout for navy pants, too.
Hi to everyone.

welcome Cindielm, glad you found us.
Lew and I have been taking turns with his sisters, sitting with his mother at the nursing home for the past 5 days. We're back in Fargo for a day. Mildred's breathing 4-6 times a minute, opens her eyes occasionally and mumbles, hospice nurse talked with all of us today and she's going to increase morphine some more. Ready to throttle whatever nurse put her arms through the sleeves of her jammy tops this morning, Sandy is going to have to cut them off tonight as doing anything with her arms makes her cry out. The hospice music therapist was there this afternoon, played the guitar and sang beautiful peaceful songs for Millie, and all of us "kids" (Millie is 92). She sang like an angel & brought tears to everyone's eyes.

We are awaiting more rain. Wow --- so wet so far this month and the month has 12 more days to go. Hmmm, I think we are going to get to the hottest part of the yr. through hot muggy rainstorms. Not typical, but then what is??? At least my chest was moving up and down this a.m. when I woke up which is an excellent sign. So, I get to practice being alive and well today --- nothing wrong with that.
Hoping the rain holds off till I get out and do my feral cats --- maybe I'll go early. I'm off work today. Had the long day yesterday. Anyway, nice to get some time off and catch up some of the things that got left behind for going early. It is really sultry out of doors. Ick --- I should say that again, Ick. I don't like sultry -- did you notice.
I hope you are all not having too many weather/water issues. I know there is flooding here and there and we will get some as well through the next few days. See you all later, then.
Blessings
Jackie
P.S. (((((Blondie))))))

Sitting in hair dresser's shop while my mother has her hair shampooed and set. Thought I would post a couple of pictures of the placemats I sewed.

-
-
The placemats are rectangular but the angle of the camera made them look a little misshapen.
-
Ah, well Carole --- if you ever get tired of those -- let me give you my address. They are so nice. Hats off to anyone who can do anything by hand or on a sewing machine. When I see anything ( I am so fumble-fingered ) that looks like you have to do something like that --- I just take off and go the other way.

Nice placemats, Carole! I love the green one, probablly because the walls in my kitchen are green!
Welcome Cindie.....So glad you found us and do come and post often. There is no set age requirement here! We are all young at heart and trying to get through each day the best that we can. :-)
Mommarch...I am so sorry that you had to deal with such a stressful situation. When you look around at the younger generation, it appears there are many that are rather "spoiled and self-centered." Sometimes I wonder if we gave them too much and now they expect it.
My youngest grandson will be staying with me all next week. I am really looking forward to some one-on-one time with him. I imagine that I will be ready to "drop" at the end of the week.
Rain, rain, and more rain! Most of our golf courses are closed because of all the rain and some have even flooded. I'm ready for a few dry days!
Teacher, I hope the storm missed you!
Anne, so sorry to hear about your DD. Wow! It sounds like she will be off her feet for awhile now and that can be so painful!
Where's Chevy??? I've been missing her!
I LOVE to shop! I go shopping once a month with a great friend who taught in the same school as me for many years. Once we retired we figured that we would grow apart if we didn't plan something on a regular basis. Since we both love to shop, we go once a month on a Monday and we shop 'til we drop. We meet in one of the larger cities where there is a Mall or unique shops and get caught up on each other's lives as well as search for the bargains. She is also a breast cancer survivor! In fact, I'm meeting her in just a few hours to help celebrate her birthday!
Talk more later...
