Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

Anne, that is a toughie. I did the perm mainly as I seem able to maintain the illusion of much thicker hair with the added bonus that though there may be an area of a bit of frizz --- even in bad weather I have some sort of "style" going on and don't go really straight and using your word, bodiless. I wash my hair usually once a week and set it a little ( I don't have the patience to do a precise job ) with a curling iron. It is rather haphazard as to how those curls are put in, but it does create umph which I at least THINK hides most of my hair 'sins'. The other thing is -- once curled, it seems what bits here and there that are gray get twirled around in ways that tend to hide the gray more than define it -- so for now it is winning ways for me, but I'm open to just about any fix I might need if too much change takes place. My 'vanity' has less to do I think with color and or gray and much more to do with straight, fine, and no body.

I've considered putting a clear henna on mine. It is supposed to add body and the clear shouldn't change the color. My gray hair has some wave and seems thicker. Which means that right now the gray sticks out.
-
Chevy, you look really cute! I can see that devilment in your smile! The hair color and style suit you.
Anne, I love the wig. I just assumed it was your hair. There's a really nice woman I met at my mother's church who wears a wig. I didn't realize it was a wig until I complimented her on her hair and she told me it was a wig. The color is a pretty red/auburn. She said her own hair is so thin and ugly that she can't do anything attractive with it so she invested in a good wig. And the style and color look great on her.
Chevy, I've always been a blonde. As a child, I had white blonde hair and it gradually got darker blonde. For years the sun would bleach streaks into my hair and I really liked the way it looked. So my "color" won't be dark like yours, but a beige/blonde color with some highlights. Pretty much like my hair in my previous avatar. I'm old enough for gray hair but I guess I'm influenced by the fact that most of the women I'm around color their hair. I can always go natural again when the notion strikes.
-
Carole - I had always been a blonde too but had "sun streaks" added as I got older since i was getting darker & more gray. Funny how the time to spend hours each day playing in the sun disappeared when we grew up. Sigh!! Post chemo loss my hair came back very dark brown, almost black. Now the pepper is filling in. I'll probably eventually go back to the streaks/highlights. No roots to deal with and I only had to get it done 3 or 4 times a year since it blended.
Chevy looking good.

My hair used to be thick and straight, now its thinning especially on the side I sleep on the most. I get a perm, due to get one on Sat. When its still fresh I often just toussel it SP?, when it loosens up I use the curling iron, one with teeth on it. Find that kind is easier. I have a friend tries to get me to go natural, I'm not ready!
MMM had Lou Malnatis Chicago pizza for supper. Being an old Chicago girl, love Chicago pizza. Got a gift certificate, no name on it, maybe the company, as I sent their gift cards at Christmas. Back in the day we went to Unos. Saw Al Hurt coming out of there one night.

Thanks Carole.... I used to do hair for my neighbors and cousins... but I did them all the same as MY hair.... Ha! I even wore hair pieces, with those big barrel curls when they were in style. I did the hair-pieces also.... but my Mom used to give me Toni permanents.... and on my "fine" hair, they were always just frizzy...
I know it's a pain to do it every morning, but I don't have anything else to do.... Ha!
Yes.... just stay close to your own hair color.... highlights arer always good, and blend in with ANY color..
The boxes of hair-color you can get at stores like Walmart, are okay too, but more expensive.... and they ARE just temporary.... If you used one of them, stay close to your own color.... because they wash and fade out pretty fast..... But they DO give your hair body....
Anne! Wigs are good too! You can always change THAT style.... or get another one.... And have fun with bangs..... or your hair pulled back off your face.... My ears always stuck out, so I never wore pony tails.... like all my girl-friends.... I think my ears are not as noticeable with all that hair.

Blondie,
Looking good !!!! Sure hope all goes well tomorrow. I too would like a chef. I've never actually enjoyed cooking, and feel I mainly stumble along and do ok, but just ok. Dh never says anything --- he will eat just about anything -- maybe that actually lets me off the hook a bit too much. If he were pickier I would have to rise to an occasion that actually doesn't take place here. Oh well -- we get by and we don't eat badly. It is just that I sometimes drag my feet with it.
I hope you will have good weather tomorrow ( we got up to nearly 70 today ) for being out. Rain comes to us on Friday I think. If the weatherman doesn't miss. I had some things I wanted to do then, that will have to wait. Oh well !!!! It was work things and it won't get lost or stolen from me
Wishing you well -- sure like your picture.
Blessings and hugs,
Jackie

Hope this picture will stay in. Don't recall if I've ever sent it before but some of the new ladies would likely not have see it. Here's hoping

Hi all,
Just checking in after a few weeks away due to snow, work, long hours, family changes, etc.
I hope to catch up and read back over ten pages.
Nic pix, Sandy & Jackie! I am sure there are more when I read back.
I keep thinking tomorrow is Friday....it isn't....so I had better get some sleep.
Things are going pretty well except for DD's impending house sale and official separation from her DH. It all makes me sad, but I just think of my "favorite things" and then I don't feel "so bad"....it works.
More later....
Joan -
Love your picture Jackie! You and Denny! Your house looks so cozy!
And Joan.... I would be sad too.... but that's how things are....
Morning Blondie! Yes, I like your hair! Hah! But when MINE was a "purplish-mauve-red" tint, it didn't look good on me.... Hah!
But doesn't this look pretty?

I might add.... that is NOT a picture of me.... wish it was though....

That purple hair is beautiful!
It's fun to see the pictures.
So far we haven't had the heavy rainfall that was a possibility today. I took my mother for her hair appointment and then we drove to Ponchatoula (how's that for a name?!) and had lunch. She treated me for my birthday.
So it hasn't been a pretty day but not as bad as it could have been. I'm hoping for a drying out period next week. The Bradford pear trees are popping out into white bloom. I think spring is about ready to arrive.
-
I love to hear you talking about your Mom.... Makes me really want to "see" my Mom again... or my Grandma. I used to take my Grandma to lunch, especially on her Birthday's.... and she would dress up so pretty.... She was born in 1898... March 10th.... and I always think of her especially on that day.... My Mom and Dad moved to the San Francisco area when I met my boyfriend, in 1955.... I lived with my Grandparents until we could save enough money to get married, 2 years later....
But it would be so sweet to spend time with my Mom.... once again.... Thanks for giving me those memories....
We went shopping at Costco today, and they had everything I WANTED! And it wasn't busy, and we had lunch here, and then went over to our Daughte's to take her stuff we bought her.... Took her the favorite Turkey melt, so she can have that for dinner! It's always fun being with her.... and she makes us both laugh!
We bought one of their roast Chicken's for dinner.... and will have lots of left-overs.....

I just read back for some of the pages I missed and see there was/is a lot going on.
I missed your birthday, Paula, and also yours, Carole. I wish you the best year ahead.
Termite - 5 years - big milestone. I am 3 years, and it seems like it is going fast (but then, so is the rest of my life!)
Paula, I am sorry to hear about your DiL and her diagnosis. You will be a great support for her and your son. BC is so intrusive in our lives - it changes our course for a time. But we find our way back to a good place wherever possible.Sandra, where do you get that energy to do all you have to do at the house? You are amazing...hope Mike is doing OK.
Anne, sorry to hear about your family's loss of one so young.
I love the photos - I think our thread is the best-looking!
Chevy - great photo.Time for sleep...late start at work on Fridays.

Chevy, smile for the day!

Great quote for today, Jackie.
A gray, gloomy rainy morning here but an end is in sight. We might even see sunshine this afternoon. A good Friday to everyone.
-
Gloomy day here -- weather says that off and on we will have rain. I'll survive -- just so glad we had a couple of really warm days with lots of sun to dry up a lot of the mud that came from the previous rain and melting snow. There are only a few small piles ( mainly in parking lots ) of snow left and they should be gone in a short while. Seems as though our temps will stay mainly good or at least ok. We have had the freak snowstorm in April -- but they are normally over quick if they come and have no lasting quality to them. So -- I'm ready for Spring -- big time.
I too like your cartoon, Chevy. I really think mice make 'cute' characters anyway. I don't so much mind mice, although I have to admit that the one that ran back into our pantry ( the box I carried out apparently had his/her nest in it ) I did jump up on a stool when I saw it coming at me. I think I am more concerned about the diseases that come along with them -- rather than the sort of cute little rodent they are. But then at my age -- a lot of things have become sort of eeewwww to me.
Hair cut day. I know its the right time because of how my hair looks. Meaning, that for me it seems perfect --- but it also means, it won't by next week and would show the effects of my trying to set it just like I do right now. Almost glad today is not so great -- I will already to that extent be having a bad hair day so won't mind seeing it cut when it is at its best time.
I'll be back later. Have some book work to do and then off to town.
Blessings
Jackie

Jackie, I like to think Spring has come. Another day of sun, though not s warm as yesterday. I did go to Chrictmas Tree Shope and got some Easter stuff and a supply of pin wheels. We live in a log home and the woodpeckers like to attack us. Am told they are a protected species and we can't do anything much , except try and keep them away. Bought fake owls, put one at each end of the house this winter, well the woodpecker seems to like them, he started on the end of the house they hadn't attacked yet. So much for owls. Pinwheels seem to help. When we hear one we shout, bang on the wall or go outside and shout at them! I expect to see one pop his head thru, one of these days!
I'm over due for my perm and cut, going to get one tomorrow. Hope it's not pouring supposed to rain. We still have a good deal of snow left, though at least most has melted off the walks and roof.
Time for lunch, Jean
-
Jean, Maybe try those shiny spiral things that move and shimmer? Could even make something out of can lids. Water gun? I know what you're going through. We have flickers.
-
Jean, I know it's not funny but I had to smile at the vision of a woodpecker's beak poking through the wall!
The rain has stopped and the sun even peeked out for a few minutes. Our trees will be bursting into leaf the next week or two. Fruit trees are already in blossom. As soon as it dries up a bit, I will need to get out into the yard on weed removal duty.
I folded clothes first thing after I got into motion this morning and then got out ye ole ironing board and iron. I have almost emptied the rack in the laundry room where the clothes that need some pressing or ironing reside until I get around to them. I told dh he owes me big time because almost all these clothes today are his. I've been wearing mostly jeans and tee shirts and those don't get ironed. Some of the clothes on the rack have been there a while!

Welcome {{ Greenerfields }} we are very much here though now and then fairly quiet as opposed to some of the other threads. Since the majority of us ( some are still I thinking working quite a bit ) are retired, I think some of our posts come in spurts. Also, right at the moment -- I think most of our group are well through their txs. be it chemo or rads or a combination and so -- we aren't as needed as we sometimes can be. We do have a couple of people who are Stage IV -- but all in all, we just carry on a wonderful, wonderful friendship that sprang from a terrible disease. Hope you will feel free to come on in and join us if you like.
Blessings
