Perhaps the most important thing we bring to another person is the silence in us, not the sort of silence that is filled with unspoken criticism or hard withdrawal. The sort of silence that is a place of refuge, of rest, of acceptance of someone as they are. We are all hungry for this other silence.

Hi, Ladies. It is warm and sunny today. I finally have the estate sale planned with a wonderful lady. We bonded immediately. My face is all red from the treatment the Dermatologist has me on and she has bandages from her Dermatologist. The sale will be the first weekend in March. I am so glad to have that off my mind.

The building plans for a smaller house came to a halt. The price to clear the property was $20K, which put the project over budget and out the door. Back to the drawing board.

Di, does Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park still have the Nisqually Glacier on the road from hwy. 7 to the Paradise Visitor Center? I seem to recall the last time I was there (1990) it was much, much smaller than in the 1970s when I was there nearly every couple of months.

Finally going to see the ENT on Fri. to get this effing pulsatile tinnitus sorted out. It takes CBD plus a whole 0.5 mg tab of Xanax to get sleepy enough for it not to keep me awake all night. My dispensary ran out of CBN capsules--the factory that made them has decided to redirect its energies into growing more pot to keep up with the demand by recreational users. Those used to drop me like a plugged buffalo. And I'm seeing my primary next week for new labs (CBC, chem, lipids) to see how the weight loss has affected my numbers. I was only 20 lbs. down last time I had my blood drawn. Also need to get a written order for my follow-up third DEXAScan--MO says it has to be my PCP or GYN ordering it after the first two times.

Saw the doctor the other day for sleep problems and exercise-induced pain; sciatica and upper-back cramps. He renewed my prescription for muscle relaxant as long-term, rather than short-term trial. Half a tab takes care of upper back, and half a tab seems to be improving my sleep immensely. Yesterday I walked a lot and went to a quick session at the gym, last night I dreamed that I needed to have three surgeries on my back. But I still got a lot of sleep. I don't think I will need to keep that sleep disorders appointment. The little spikes on my fitbit readout are probably apnea, but nowhere near a critical level. I just move around too much to sleep well. I was making it difficult for Tippy to get enough sleep; it should be a relief for him to sleep in his kennel. So glad I don't have a human to sleep with.

Then I will be going through another round of physical therapy to determine what to do about exercise triggering my sciatica. I am thinking that nerves are trapped between sections of muscle. We will see.

Beginning to think that the Herceptin did something to my skin-- hands are so dry, with Wuhan virus and the flu, handwashing is becoming problematic. And my face has developed five years' wrinkles in one year. Aah, such is life, I guess.

Let me tell you a secret, which ought not to be a secret, seeing it is written in the Scriptures--be honest and your whole body will be full of light; and this of every kind; you will actually see further and see clearer than shrewd and cunning men, and you will be less liable to be duped than they, provided that your honesty be combined with a determination to protect honesty, and to discountenance every kind of brand. -Edward Irving

And when we come to think of it, goodness is uneventful. It does not flash, it glows. It is deep, quiet, and very simple. It passes not with oratory, it is commonly foreign to riches, nor does it often sit in the places of the mighty: but may be felt in the touch of a friendly hand or the look of a kindly eye.

Snow on last night's menu with a slow rain this morning. So, the dust of snow is basically now gone and the sun would like to come out, but it is still fairly cloudy. It wouldn't get truly warm 38 - 40, but it sure would be nice to let the sun shine in. I think it will be sunny for a few days in a row once the sun gets out. No major plans here. I always play catch-up as I'm so sun dependent that I don't accomplish a lot of what are daily chores ( some ) as well as things I had to skip for some reason before and now wait on a list.

I hope you are all well and looking forward hopefully to sun and maybe some better, nicer days.

    Good evening....
I hope everyone is having a good week. I fell asleep at 8:30pm and woke up before midnight and am still wide awake.

I am happy to say that last week I officially retired from working full time. I know it is the right decision. I was truly exhausted at the end of each week. I am still completing the mountains of paperwork that comes with retiring.
I decided to work 5 hours a week at my same job, two mornings, teaching one class. It will give me a reason to get up early a few days and dress nicely and be in my familiar environment. I am hoping my health will stay good through the semester.

I haven't felt retired yet. Every day brings appointments, medical tests,...things I've been putting off! I was feeling a little off for about 3 months so saw the oncologist (tests are good); and I had a cardiac nuclear stress test yesterday. Results will take awhile. I am happy to say I feel a lot better in general. One day at a time...that is all we get.

Jackie, I love the "goodness" quote. It is so true...it is a glow.

I have been reading here about so much wintry weather. On Long Island we have only seen a few short-lived coatings of an inch or two of snow. Our temperatures overnight drop into the teens; but mostly, we have had an easy winter so far. I actually like snow...I love watching the birds gather at the feeder when it snows.

Well, time-management has never been my specialty; but I hope to spend more time here.
    Joan

It was inevitable, I suppose, that in the garden I should begin, at long last, to ask myself what lay behind all this beauty. When guests were gone and I had the flowers all to myself, I was so happy that I wondered why at the same time I was haunted by a sense of emptiness. It was as though I wanted to thank somebody, but had nobody to thank; which is another way of saying that I felt the need for worship. That is, perhaps, the kindliest way in which a person may come to his or her God. There is an interminable literature on the origins of the religious impulse, but to me it is simpler than that. It is summed up in the image of a person at sundown, watching the crimson flowering of the sky and saying--to somebody--"Thank you."

Good morning everyone! It has been a while since checking in. But I keep up with your interesting and inspiring posts. Completed third treatment on Wednesday. Very few side effects, after the first, but each after I've been losing steam.

It's beautiful today. Sunny and warm. Lots of birds at the feeder. Going to take a walk, check out the creek, it's really rushing, and hopefully will help keep my overly emotional state in check. Hope you all have a sweet day!

Some sporadic sun this a.m.--made it all the way up to 40F this afternoon. Not much snow--seems winter was "front-loaded" in late Oct. through mid-Nov. (hope I'm not jinxing things).

Have to wait some more to find out why I'm having pulsatile tinnitus. ENT clinic insisted I see their audiologist first. She was able to rule out ear infection, excess wax, and Meniere's Syndrome as the cause. My hearing acuity is above-average on the R and "age-appropriate" mild-to-moderate high-frequency loss on the L but not enough to warrant a hearing aid...yet. Speech recognition was excellent. Have to wait till 2/26 to see the actual ENT, who will investigate further and likely send me to a cardiologist for a carotid Doppler, do an MRI or CT to rule out "patulous" Eustachian tube, or even send me to a neuro-or-vascular surgeon. Meanwhile, the audiologist said I could ask my primary to order a carotid Doppler--which I mentioned I had 2 years ago as part of a LifeLine screening (and was normal). I briefly freaked out that I was developing dementia because I couldn't remember the name "LifeLine" till I was back in my car.

Seeing my primary on Tues. for bloodwork (CMP, CBC, a1c, ferritin-iron, and lipids) and requesting an order for a DEXAScan (been 2 yrs since my last one, and have finished my series of 6 Prolia shots). Poor guy has been slammed: his NP, who sees the routine cases, has the flu so he's had a double patient load. And it turns out my GYN appt. is 2/11--the online appt. tool sneakily kicks ahead by 2 wks. I want to make sure my belly is only fat (and that I'm "full-of-$#*+"), especially since when I'm standing I can palpate the outlines of my intestines. I'm hoping to rule out anything ominous pushing my guts forward. Bob says it's not ascites, so at least I needn't worry about my liver.

It's simple things, like a glowing sunset, the sound of a running stream
or the fresh smell in a meadow that cause us to pause and marvel
at the wonder of life, to contemplate its meaning and significance.
Who can hold an autumn leaf in their hand, or sift the warm white sand
on the beach, and not wonder at the Creator of it all?

Kat chemo is cumulative so I think whatever effect you feel will be with you a bit longer each time. It will pass, but it is wearing while you wait. Your last paragraph was telling as you appreciated nature's blessings. Things that help inspire wellness.

Sandy, hope your tests will reveal only a need for moderate adjustments if any. You keep up with your health so well.

Starting out gray here. Both days I thought the sun would come it didn't. Well, one of these days -- and just maybe today will do it. Fingers crossed.

Joan so glad you popped in. I can't say I'm totally surprised as I had been thinking about you. Yea for the near retirement. The best of both worlds - holding onto enough work to allow you to experience the joy of it, while not being its servant entirely. That is exactly what makes my "retired" status great. Like wading in enough water to cover the feet well but staying away from the knees. Good for you. Hopefully you will feel a bit more retired as you spend more time NOT going to work more than once a week. I'm not so sure how much we really retire since we ( not always but usually ) women do so much with home duties while working. I also do the bill paying and correspondence functions -- so leisure still has to be allotted a corner.

Hope you all have a beautiful day.

I have been ill since we got home from our brief OK trip. Fortunately I had a dr.'s appointment scheduled for a new patient visit. I have been running fever off and on and have a dry hacking cough. A swab test ruled out flu. The fever and recent history of pneumonia influenced the dr. to prescribe an antibiotic. If I'm not better by Monday, the next step will be a chest x-ray. This morning upper respiratory symptoms are kicking in.

We seem to be in the winter rain season. But the sun is out today.

It's not my imagination. January had 1 day with absolutely no rain. It was too windy for the fireworks, however. Two days had only a trace; all the rest had measurable amounts of rain. Last night it poured and was windy enough to make waves on the inch of water that hadn't drained yet in the parking lot. I am ready for sun. The prospect is not encouraging - definitely rain the rest of the week.

This kind of weather is demotivating. I haven't accomplished anything in January. I hope I do better in February.

Hello ladies just checking in. Carole, take care of yourself and feel better soon. We are relaxing after a busy day (DH is snoring, I am relaxed 🙂)

We are having dinner at a nearby restaurant called Flower Child tomorrow with my sister and hubby. So I think I'll go make a simple desert I found in my Philly Cream cheese cookbook- Vanilla cappuccino cream (like a pudding) so we can come back from healthy eating and have a nice desert and coffee together. 🍰☕

Petite1- Pine Island is west of us and I believe it should be in the 80's by Wednesday. Your minivaca should be fine!

Sandy - I hate the "word loss" until I'm in my car, or back at my house. I blame the drug, a gf says she has it and it's age. LOL Who knows. Hoping they can discover cause of your tinnitus, and other appointments work out well too.

It rained all night and more than half the day here. Tomorrow says a high of 68, 28+ degrees higher than NY home - I'll take it!

Bob thinks that the "mini brain farts," triple-digit glucose and lowered HDLs are probably all connected to the letrozole. One more year of taking it...I hope. And the last time I had weird stuff going on with my L ear, it was also after a large weight loss. Could be that the fat that normally holds the Eustachian tubes closed when not swallowing or sniffing may have melted away just enough to keep it too "open." (That's what "patulous" means).

I find nature so nourishing. I love to hike, especially in the mountains. When I'm walking in nature, I feel in awe of the wonder of creation. Nature is full of surprises, always changing, and we must change with it. In nature, the soul is renewed and called to open and grow. In the wilderness, you're up against whatever nature brings you--the dangers as well as the beauty.

Sandy and everyone, I'm wishing us all well and praying for it to happen soon. Starting to think that age does seem to cause us to reapportion ourselves in ways that seem to almost naturally bring us issues. The cancer and txs. do as well, but I'm thinking more of some of us losing wt. or shrinking a little, or even gaining wt.

The sun is finally out and it should get to 67 today. Just " WOW ". Only early Feb. We have had good days in Feb. before but usually closer to mid or late Feb. This close to Jan. just seems though really appreciated, a little odd. Did help the groundhog though so I can't say I'm complaining. I'll enjoy the day I'm sure. I love sunlight so my inspiration will be a lot stronger than it has been. If I could send some of it to you Wren, I surely would -- or to anyone who needs sun. I learned early on I could not worship the sun by being in it too long at the 'wrong' times of day, but having it I always knew was a comfort and something that would help me move forward daily.

Reader, I think I may have a similar Philly Cookbook because though I know I've never made it, your recipe sounds familiar. I actually may have two or three " Philly " books. Working on paring down my cook-book collection again so just noticed the book ( which one ? ) you referred to in some of my stacks.

Hope you all have a really good day.

ETA: As usual I said something wrong -- groundhog here in Centralia saw his shadow, but bit elsewhere. AT least I caught myself this time as most of the time I don't.

Morning gals! Okay, is it just me, now that I am older, or did the Super Bowl half-time make you embarrassed? Holy COW! Those 2 gals, who I generally think are great performers, just acted like 2 little half-crazed tramps head-lining their own little strip-club!

I was sittin' there, all cozy, crocheting a blanket, and those 2 came on, and made me wish they would cover-up or calm-down, or maybe even BOTH! Sure my Husband sat there, glued to the screen, but I just felt embarrassed.... and I am one NOT to be embarrassed.

I read a lot of comments on FB, and found I am not the only one with these opinions! Some Moms were embarrassed for their little girls watching the show, and turned it off... Others just thought it was poor taste... like me. And a Stripper Pole???? I mean I fell off one once... :) Shut up Cammi!

So anyway.... this weather is really hurting my leg... my femur with a rod in it... And what's MORE is we are expecting about 6 inches of snow today & tomorrow!! Eeeegads! I am ready for Spring already! Been out when it is nicer, and raking old leaves out of my gardens...

I miss Prince singing Purple Rain

We didn't watch the half time. From past experience we know it won't be entertaining for us. Now I'm curious! Especially with mention of Chevy falling off the pole!

The good news is that I feel like I'm re-entering the land of the living today. I plan to shower and wash my hair, which is a nightmare in plain light. Meanwhile dh is going in the opposite direction in his illness cycle.

It's sunny here. The view out the window would suit Jackie, for sure.

A greater poverty than that caused by lack of money is the poverty of unawareness. Men and women go about the world unaware of the beauty, the goodness, and the glories in it. Their souls are poor. It is better to have a poor pocketbook than to suffer from a poor soul.

Yes, sun and oh beautiful sun. I do feel ( despite my love of sun ) for those who get temps too high when the sun is out. Often it is too much humidity as well. We have some today as well. After the three days we had to wait when forecast said sun, it is deeply appreciated. We will ( if its right and it likely is ) get some rain tomorrow as the sun has kept us warmed now for a couple of days close to 70 degrees. Getting a taste of spring with the rain that comes then too -- and then likely we will cool back down some.

Chevy has me curious too now. Dh and I have never been big sports fans and normally don't turn on the games -- even if its Super Bowl. He thought about going to his brothers, but over there it would be sports mixed with politics. Ah, no thanks. Still we sometimes have left it on in the background for the ads but obviously didn't do that yesterday.

Glad you are feeling better Carole. Loved the writing -- nightmare in plain sight.

Hope you are all going to have a good day.

Morning Chevyboy: I totally agree. Halftime show was disgusting & who would want their little girl watching, let alone performing in it. My husband agreed, called it the crack show.
