Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

People who take the risk make a tremendous discovery: The more things you care about, and the more intensely you care, the more alive you are. This capacity for caring can illuminate any relationship: marriage, family, friendships--even the ties of affection that often join humans and animals. Each of us is born with some of it, but whether we let it expand or diminish is largely up to us. To care, you have to surrender the armor of indifference. You have to be willing to act, to make the first move. -Arthur Gordon

Glad to hear you can be through with any dental panic though it seems a lot of convolution till you got there Sandy. Hope the new recliners will be just what you need.
All is well here though we start ( slowly today ) edging into another heat wave. Hopefully hoping that it doesn't last long and we can swing into Fall. Looking forward into getting back to Indiana on the 8th. of Oct. so I can move on to what comes next with the arm. I'm tired of the sling and doing so many one-handed maneuvers but I am able to at least type now. More mistakes as I don't always hit the keys hard enough -- but slow and steady. Doing far more than I could at first.
On to other tests and procedures afterwards. Going to a friend's house for dinner on Sunday. Looking forward to that though the heat will be on outside.
Hope you are all going to have a pleasant week-end.

Sandy, Shanah Tovah Umetukah, 'a good and sweet year'. Which most happily starts off with NO ONJ. It’s all this Ptsd- how we just expect more trauma when something feels wrong. Sorry you had to go through this; pizza crust is my favorite food. Though only thick crust Chicago- Uno’s or Due’s which I’ve been eating once a week since 1956. And now Pequod’s in Morton Grove,
Tonight we’re going to the Barn in Evanston for DH’s birthday. A little tricky for two vegetarians, but his brother and sil are flying in from Denver to take Gil and m to his favorite restaurant, which happens to be Avli, but we’ve gone there the last two times they came in, so thought we’d try this.
I don’t even like gelato. Love berries.

Maggie, Welcome to our group. I agree you're too busy to have cancer. It sounds like you have a plan and have begun to follow it. Wish you all the best for chemo to hit those little buggers hard. Please come back here any time.
-
Welcome Maggie, and I agree. You have a busy and full life. You are on top of things and have a plan. Positive attitude and spirit. Great combination. Do come often to ramble, vent, or anything else that keeps you going strong. .

Just home from having Dim Sum for 2nd grandson's birthday. He's in the army stationed at Ft Lewis which is near us. His girlfriend is vegetarian so we went to a restaurant that has a lot of vegetarian offerings. DH and I ate a lot of shrimp in ours. We go there often enough that they recognize us and know a lot of what we'll order. We always order pea vines which are absolutely delicious and a pain to make at home.

Maggie007 Hi Maggie, so sorry you have to join us, but you sound amazing. You nailed it---that feeling of I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS, and yet, we have to do it. Ugh. You'll get through it. So glad to see your family is close and supportive. You might consider putting your Biography (family, work, etc.), and DX and TX in your profile, and then change your Settings to Public for those things, we can see your situation, and you don't have to keep listing all that stuff when you post. This way, those of us who have a similar diagnosis or treatment experience maybe can share relevant support. And, cheer you on as you get through all the steps ahead.
When I did chemo, there was a thread on this site for "Chemo starting _____(month)" and we all shared along the way what we were going through. Same for when it was surgery time. And, I did Cold Capping, so there was a thread for that. Also there are threads for the hormone medications/AI and how we manage that medication. You're having surgery after chemo, sounds like. That can make the tumor shrink, and then the margins are better. Yay!
Chemo side effects: different for everyone, and different depending on your exact treatment. I had TC x 4. I felt much better by Day 4 each time. Drinking A LOT of water the first few days helped me feel better sooner each time. I developed a routine of doing stuff I wanted on the Feel Good days, and giving myself the necessary days off/low activity level when I felt like crap or was too tired to do much. And keeping food around that I knew I could tolerate during the Feeling Icky days. There is a fairly predictable rhythm of this for most people. For me, the 3rd week was when I felt pretty normal, could taste and enjoy food a bit more, and had more energy. So, I was able to plan my activities around the days I knew I'd feel better.
Warm wishes of support to you.

Thank you, Hiking Lady,,I will try to get my profile up, very grateful for this site,

Goodnight all, pleasant dreams!! We got this!!

Thanks, Judy—same to you & yours! I will slightly cheat tomorrow night after temple: ONE apple slice dipped lightly in honey. Period. No challah, no sweet wine. As for the other tradition, raisins & almonds? Maybe one raisin, but definitely an ounce of almonds! (Will buy a round challah, though—Bob loves it, even though he’s not Jewish).
Welcome aboard, Maggie. For a sorority nobody intended to pledge, we’re a pretty great bunch of gals here (plus a hubby or two and a few male BC patients). Wish I could give you chemo advice but I lucked out and didn’t need chemo. Are you on an AI concurrently with the chemo? That’s a particularly heartless thing for your onc to do to you (I was allowed to wait till radiation was over), but everyone’s cancers and treatments are unique to them (and their care teams). Wonder if any of my CBD oil (or my two Eileen Fisher knitted T-shirt dresses) started out as your hemp!

We're having a real cold snap which tells me it's time to hem the new jeans I bought at the beginning of summer when they were on sale. One pair needs a lot cut off and the other two need my usual chop job. It's so tempting to have a cleaners do it, but silly when I have everything to do it myself. I used to sew a lot of my clothes, so I have no excuse.
-
Maggie: I agree with Hikinglady. It was so beneficial to follow the current chemo threads with people all in the same spot. I also read the month (or season) before to find out what others learned as the progressed through the process. Check the active threads - but here is the link for Chemo September 2019

Maggie007- your picture looks beautiful!
Welcome to the group. Sorry you had to join us, but as others have said we've got each others back.

Maggie, welcome and best of luck to you as you meet the challenge of bc.
I plan to go to the clinic in Park Rapids and ask to have a urine analysis. I suspect I may have another UTI.
The low last night was only low 50's which seems warm after the 30's and 40's. Today is supposed to be up to 70's.

Hope all is well Carole. We are in the midst of our heat wave which is due to last until at least Wednesday -- all the while there is two feet of snow in parts of Montana -- almost un-believable. Seems like weather confusion to me and hope it settles down soon. Tiny, my little black and white cat is chattering like a magpie at something outside which I can't see. Likely a squirrel since they are storing up hidden goodies for winter. Tiny wanted to help apparently in the worst way.
Went to a friend's for dinner yesterday. How delightful. She not only announced that she had aluminum ware ready for any left-overs of the pot roast she served, but in addition a meatloaf ( her special recipe ) that she made and froze to bring home with us as well. Well, I have this to say -- THERE are ANGELS and they show up w/o being asked to make your path as easy as they can. I was so grateful as I had run out of ideas lately for 'easy' one-armed prep food. Now I have some.
So special today: Thanking all angels who continue to shower blessings where needed. You are so deeply appreciated.

L'Shana Tovah to all--may you have a sweet year!
Chilly & rainy all weekend--hot & sticky today & tomorrow, then back to chilly & rainy off & on through Sat. Still chilly (high perhaps all the way up to 62) on Sun, when I'm supposed to play at the Grove Folk Festival in Glenview. Last year it was windy, chilly & overcast, so instead of an outdoor stage they had us play inside an open-sided brick pavilion, in front of a toasty fireplace with overhead heaters for the audience. Glad it won't storm--in which case the whole shebang would be cancelled and we wouldn't get paid.
Dentist & perio went over the CT scan and agreed I don't have ONJ! (But my 12-yr-old kitty Happy has IBD--either idiopathic Crohn's or perhaps due to an underlying lymphoma, for which we'll biopsy and blood-test in 3 weeks).
My shrink, who recently retired at 73 after open-heart surgery, called to wish me a happy New Year (and remind me that our scheduled appt. tomorrow is a no-go; I already deleted it from my calendar). As a result of the surgery curing his congestive heart failure and edema, and the intensive daily cardiac rehab workouts, he too has lost 35 lbs. He is enjoying retirement--and urged me to try to convince Bob to hang up his office & hospital practice and just teach, read EKGS & echoes, and do his Union Health "side hustle" (which he loves and makes more $ from than his actual practice).

We the decent people of the world stand for the kind of life that will be good for all of the people, all of the time, everywhere. We believe that this is a beautiful universe and that it is made for love and not for hate; for peace and not war; for freedom and not slavery; for order and not riot; for compassion and not violence; for happiness and not misery. We believe that the ultimate decency is to help people and never harm people, to lift people and not degrade them, and to respect the dignity of all people as individual human beings. -Wilferd A. Wow -- 94 today and not much of a breeze. Yesterday had a nice breeze although it was quite warm as well. Another day when the a/c runs a whole lot. I hope this will be the last of the heat waves for the yr. I don't complain too often, but really don't like this at all. Have lost about 13 #'s so far although I wasn't trying much. A great off-shoot of the broken arm is that I find the one-handed work just too tiresome when it comes to providing deserts for a meal. Also, not bothering to use the sweet creamers -- even in my last cup of coffee for the day. That was always my treat.
My so nice PCP always said ( and I admit it usually went in one ear and out the other ) that little changes could mean a lot. Part is the fact that everything done takes much effort, but it is nice to have dropped off some of the excess w/o a feeling of extreme deprivation which often has derailed my wt. loss efforts. Hopefully I will soon be able to do more and more ( good rehab efforts ) and get in fact more detail added into my meager efforts to keep up here at home. Also looking forward to taking back over the driving.
Hope you are all going to have a great day.

13 lbs, Jackie! I would love to match your weight loss but not the reason behind it. I had to step on the scale yesterday at the walk in clinic in Park Rapids. Ouch! Even dressed in jeans and wearing bulky Hokas , my weight was an "ouch." Once again the personnel at the clinic were very efficient and I determined that I do indeed have another UTI. The first one was in May. I'm taking antibiotics.
The symptoms this time had not gotten as bad but I decided to check out the situation. I'm glad I made that decision.
Today is a dark, gloomy, cold day. I cancelled on women's golf. The high today is supposed to be 49. I think dh and I might forego the family visits in IL and head home. Maybe depart on Sunday. I would be in favor of that plan since we will probably come north for Thanksgiving and have an opportunity to see his brother and his sister.
Even if the weather is still hot and sticky back home, it's time to go back to Louisiana life.

Hello...
Thank you for the thread for all of us “women of a certain age.”
I so enjoy reading the encouraging thoughts. Right now I’m fighting off a dose of “pity party” I’m feeling.
Just received my second diagnosis of Breast Cancer. After 8 years of pushing away the fear, it’s back.
Hope you don’t mind if I don’t comment much. But I’m cheering for you all

Maggie and mac, your corners and pockets are very full of all of us here. Please feel the love and care every second you need it.

Don't undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special. -Brian Dyson
I cannot say this too strongly: Do not compare yourselves to others. Be true to who you are, and continue to learn with all your might. -Daisaku Ikeda -
Heat wave dissipates today with much more 'correct' temps coming for this time of yr. and should stay in the 70's now. Hope it will hold like that. We are dusty and dry of course, and I would think rain could get into the forecast, but I haven't looked longer range as yet.
I hope you are all going to have a great day.
-
Mac, so sorry about your second bout with bc. Good luck with your treatment.
Well, plans have changed again. Back to the original plan with visits on the way home.
It's quite cold here today. I got up shortly before 8 am and turned on the heat pump and the coffee pot. Then jumped back into bed under the warm covers.
Wishing everyone a good Wednesday.
