Any Hoosiers out there (Indiana)

Hi Deb and DFW: I am so glad you can now have the services of Community South as I feel that I have had exceptional care. Methodist would be so far away to do all the many trips one has to make on this unenvieble journey. Kinda like the club that no one wants to join. However, the kindness of current members makes it easier. I know for myself that I have learned so much from this site and I am one who "wants to know". Surprises make me panic. Had my Lump. on Tuesday, June 30 and I am 6 days out. In short, the wire placement was a piece of cake, then the Sentinal Node was all I have read. Painful! However only lasting for seconds for each of the four needles. Pain is over within 5 minutes and does not last. The Versed put in my vein put me into a soft deep sleep and my next memory was when it was all over. They tried to put ace bandages around my breast but for some reason did not work for me. So they put a full back and front bra on me and it held my stiches in place so that I felt no pain. Although I was scheduled to stay the night, I was feeling so well that I ate one meal and went home. The only aftereffects I have experienced was my b/s (I am diabetic) went up to 358 and I was told was to be expected after surgery. Other than that I am experiencing some weakness that is improving daily. Here it is Monday, and I am waiting for a call about my pathology report. Getting a little impatient, waiting for the phone to ring. Thats what happened to me, I hope my account helps someone out there with there apprehensive thoughts. I am the biggest baby in the world with a low tolerance for pain and I tell you, IT IS DOABLE. Glad to have some hoosiers to contact. Cathey

Wow we are quiet again - so here is where I am - my $20,000.00 port has only worked correctly twice - so the third time I had to have a dry stick first and then a slow stick, as the phlebotomist didn't want me to tell her which veins were the best to try. Zometa oo oo ooh - very painful incapacitating SEs, but someone has to be that 3%, nearly settled down and it is time for another dose. I got to the Wellness Center and had a great support meeting there at last. I talked too much and cried too much - oh well - two deaths , one my cancer buddy nephew and one my brother unexpected, then my other brother fell and had a stroke, all this and Stage IV and no support for ages. I guess it is lucky I didn't flood the room with tears :-)
Keep talking ladies we need each other - Yay Hooseirs!

Just found this and thought I'd bump it!! I'm around Fishers/Noblesville and am being treated at Clarian North in Carmel...anyone else??
-
Hi I am treated at St Vincents - although I had my port put in at Clarian North. I am in West Carmel. Good to meet you,
Linda
-
Hey, fellow Hoosiers....you're a little further north than I....I'm in New Albany - right on the border, across from Louisville, KY.....I cross the river to Louisville for my doctors and my hospitals..
My mom, though, lives in Anderson and my son goes to Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, and my brother is a physician practicing out of Anderson.....so hearing you all talk about the Indy area is familar territory for our drive-throughs...
Just thought I'd stop by and say HI... (and glad that the women's ctr at St. V is MUCH better than their orthopedic center....my mom had spine surgery there in November, 2009 and her hospital care there was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!)
sigh....blessings.robin

Hey Indiana people! Glad I happened upon this thread. I live in Terre Haute and work at Methodist in Indianapolis. I am having an excisional biopsy next week here in Terre Haute-then I'll know if I have BC-so I'm in that crappy waiting period. If any of y'all have been in Methodist's ER I may have already met ya--is that bizarre or what?

Just wanted to say HI to the Hoosiers
I live in Cali now, but grew up in Fort Wayne and went to IU. Miss my family there, but can't say I miss the weather! Hope you are all doing well!
-
Hi Too young,
Nice to hear from you - if you have read the posts you know my story. I am doing well now and onc says do not change one thing you are doing :-) I am the "do everything you can including meds" gal. My tests are nearing normal - amazing! I just need to keep it up. My only problem is that I have lost 6 friends, (one last week to suicide a couple of hours after we emailed) two family members(one to cancer) and a BC sister in the past 12 months. That is 9 deaths - a lot of loss. Just before Christmas another family member and my oldest dearest friend (both in Englend) were both Dx with cancer Stage 3 and are both very ill. I am trying to find a grief group as my therapist thinks it will help, but as soon as they hear I have Stage IV, the door closes - apparently it is outside the group parameters. Kinda sad - shut out because I might remind them of those they lost. It has beenn suggested I do not tell the next group I approach - but I have yet to find that group ...
Otherwise I am doing well - good to see a hello ..

Hi All!
Hoosier here too, from Terre Haute. I just found this thread, and happy to meet everyone! Gearing up for my stage 2 from previous sgap. Less than a month away and I will be back in South Carolina with Dr. M. Looking forward to it, but scared out of my mind all at the same time.
Anyway, great to find you all on here and look forward to getting to know everyone!

That recon was not available when I was first Dx 1991 - now I am S4 - they are not interested. I would be great to have two boobs even so. So I vicariously enjoy you and other girls getting balance back and with you, will be waving your prosthesis goodbye when all is finished and well. Good luck to you - I send good energy for everything to go smoothly and the anxiety to be eradicated by the excitement.

Thanks Linda! I was diagnosed in 1999 and have had numerous attempts at reconstruction, only for something to go wrong...seromas, ruptures, etc. Hopefully this will be a success. Thanks for the good energy vibes, I can use them!

Hi,
I am a fellow Hoosier dealing with BC. I have been surprised that there are not more hoosiers on here. Just getting ready to finish rads in another week, then on to whatever drug my onco recommends. I am always told how lucky I am....didn't have to do chem, we caught it early. But sometimes I don't feel real lucky. My surgeon is at Communtiy North and doing rads at CICC. So far everyone has been so wonderful to me, I do feel lucky in that. Just wanted to say HI

Hi, all. Just found this thread. I'm in Indy and see Dr. Birhiray at St V's as well. He and all his staff are wonderful.
-
Hi Lily and Riley,
I hear Community is wonderful - and I see Dr. Birhiray too - he is lovely and puts up with my crackpots ways really well - in fact I think he enjoys them. I understand about the Licky/don't feel lucky thing... I think we all go through it - I spent about an hour crying for no reason last night - then I laughed my head off - crazy - yes - healing definately Yes.
I will be at the BC ST Vs Wednesday for a PT assesment.
Way to go hoosiers - we do not have many come out of the woodwork ... Welcome - smiles

I'm in Southern Indiana, across the river from Louisville, KY. I'm not officially diagnosed as yet, next biopsy scheduled for next Tuesday. I had original mammogram and ultrasound in Sellersburg, Indiana and the rest of the biopsies and consultation with surgeon has been at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. The people have been absolutely fantastic!
-
Hi Julie.....It's about time someone from southern Indiana was on here....NOT that I want anyone to HAVE to be on here, of course.....It just seems as if southern Indiana doesn't exist...ha!
I live in New Albany, but my docs are in L'ville.
I hope your biopsy turns out to be nothing....but if you need us, we're here!!

Hey, everyone! Hoosier born and raised here... in spite of my trying to leave I keep coming back to IN
I'm in Boiler territory, I know them's fightin' words to some of you southern IN folks, but if it helps any I went to IU for 2 years
I was dx a year ago, I'm done with treatment and starting to slowly get energy back, but I'm also dealing with repercussions from chemo (mild heart damage from herceptin/Adriamycin (take your pick), thyroid knocked down a bit, still have some neuropathy) and the SE's from the meds I'm on to deal with those things... but overall I can't complain! I just had my first 6-month mammogram and it came back all clear... a huge relief.
Good question about where all the Hoosiers are... because I know we're around in great numbers. Just at my oncology center in Laf. (which I highly recommend for anyone in the area, Horizon Oncology & Dr. Harb) I met several women who were dx the same month I was. Three of us went through chemo at the same weekday afternoon for 6 months -- so imagine how many others there must be who were going through chemo at that place but different days/times. It's actually scary to think about the numbers. There must be a lot more of us around.
There's also a good support group here in Lafayette but when I was going through treatment I was too exhausted to get to a nighttime, 2 1/2 hour meeting, so I only went twice. Time to start going again, I think.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi... maybe this thread will take off great guns yet... we just need to get the word out about bc.org!
-
Hi there! Hey, no problem with Boilers. I actually lived in Montgomery County most of my life. Just moved down here 5 years ago. My heart is still singing on the levee. LOL!
-
Hi girls - Nature and Julie, I have been home to England - (I am a transplant Hoosier since 1987) so I missed your posts. Just about getting back on my feet after the exhaustion of the trip.
So glad to see you here - yes let's get the word out - I am on the BCMETS,org list too and Hoosiers seem scarce there, So why are we so few, I see so many in person and at different events. Maybe they just are not into online support groups....
Smiles

I wonder if part of it is Indiana is still largely rural? I was raised on a farm and would NOT have had time to be online, LOL!
-
maybe not very many hoosiers get BC???
(well, it's a nice thought, anyway...ha!)I'm here.......I met a gal on BCO from my town (New Albany)....she just lives s few miles from my house. She had her BMX in January, and we "met" on the January Mastectomy thread. We ended up going to a breast cancer survivor's fashion show, and then a couple of weekends ago, we attended a BC survivors' retreat, and then last week we walked in our county's Relay for Life, and walked our first survivor's lap together.
I'll get her (gina) to pop in here and say "hi"....

Well, I keep looking for a very tall, slim woman at Target in NA. LOL!
-
Well, Julie, I'm there SO often, you've probably seen me
I think I"ve been there twice this week.....if I'm not there, I'm at the Grantline Kroger...ha!!
-
Yes I do - good to meet you - Hoosiers seem to be few and far between, I am NW corner of 465
Linda -
I'm still here, too
But I claim Louisville, Ky as much as Indiana...since my doctors are all in L'ville.
-
I live in Brown Co. Indiana and just finishing up my 2nd time round with BC.
-
So you did! Except I doubt anyone on here knows you - I don't and met you on person in a group and as I didn't take pics and then name them - your identitiy is safe with me. Great to hear from you. sk Sharon when we can do LY again. it is so uplifting - especially if you are having a hard day - sometimes it is hard for me to go and lead but I feel sooo much better afterwards :-)
-
