okay it's 1972 I was returning from England to Australia and we had an engine problem, they took us off in Hong Kong and we had a day there, then flying from Hong Kong there were more problems so we touched down in Darwin, well it was late at night and they made us get off and we ended up in the bar, now the bar at the airport was obviously the only place in town that was open and was filled with rip roaring drunken yobs singing loudly and being obnoxious, so they fixed the plane and we got back on, then trouble again so they asked us all to get off, well no one would budge, they weren't going back into that place finally the pilot got on the speaker and told us that the bar had been cleared out so please get off the plane, well sitting in front of me was a nice English family emigrating to Australia and the woman turned around and said to me - are all Australians like that, the look of horror on her face was priceless ...

Another 'good' traveling story I have is.....
-
one of my friends lived in Hong Kong her husband had been transferred there on business so they lived very "high on the hog" penthouse apartment 35/36/37th floors, well another friend and I found a fabulous airfare $400 round trip LAX to HK so off we go, well we land in Hong Kong and are going through customs and immigration and I go through and then she hands over her passport .... guess what it was expired, and to top it off, what does she do for a living, she's in the travel industry, so there we are at the airport at 10pm at night and she's being hauled off to a little side room for interrogation after an hour I say look I have to go, my girlfriend is out in the customs hallway waiting with two little kids who were excited that their Aunie Cheryl was coming for a visit, this was in the days before cell phones so I couldn't contact her to let her know what was going on, the upshot was that they let her in to the country cause my girlfriends husband vouched for her so instead of spending our first day sightseeing we spent it at the consulate getting a new passport
