what has turned out to be my favorite ever is: when I was in college my then boyfriend gave me the Lord of the Rings bookset. I liked them & many years later when I had a son who loved fantasy from a young age, I started reading them to him at night when he was in about second grade. When he was older and the movies came out, we'd both reread the appropriate book & then go to the movie together (this was when he was a teenage, so it was a pretty cool mother/son thing). Now he is all grown up, but we did the same when The Hobbit came out at Christmas.
(that turned into a long answer!)
My first summer job when I was a teenager was....
-
An office job: receptionist, typing, ran errands, one manager mostly out of the office so I opened and sorted his mail and he'd call in for me to read letters over the phone (way before faxes), erase, help proofread and correct blue prints. Was hired to learn how to build models for an architecture company but they kept me busy running odd jobs in the office. Another long answer... See what you started Ruthbru!

My favorite memory being with my dad is... -
Waking every Saturday morning before the sun rose, we would go wild mushroom picking, then horse back riding, one Saturday after riding we went back to our friends barn and there was a basket next to my mushrooms. I thought how nice a new basket for picking mushrooms and wild berries. My Father said look inside and there it was a little beagle puppy. My heart was so full of love and disbelief. My dad had a leash and collar ready and my puppy and I went for a walk through the woods with my Father, we picked some berries and then stopped by the well for a cold drink of water. That day I felt my Father was my best friend in the World. Thank you wasn't enough to tell him how much that day meant to me, that he gave me a whole day in his life and filled it with all the things I loved to do, and the puppy was just the topping on the cake.
Thank you 2nd time ar... for asking such a question, and giving that moment which took me back to that day. I can taste the wild berries, the cold well water, the smell in the air, and even my Father's aftershave Old Spice. I haven't looked back on such memories in a long time.
My favorite memory being with my mother is.....
-
M360... My pleasure! Glad you got a good walk down Memory Lane!
Her bottomless pit of patience with me! Can't think of just one favorite memory but the many times her teaching me to bake and sew. Hated when she was very critical of my sewing and how often she made me rip it out and do it again (and again!). Later years I learned to make sure it was perfect and because of her my clothes didn't look homemade. (And made it easy to spot a lot of homemade garments that lacked the perfectionist touch).

One favorite holiday tradition my family had/has is......
-
We made up baskets of food and special gifts for the poor at Christmas. My parents knew where these families lived and we would go at midnight Christmas and put a whole ham, with everything you could think of to eat. Presents, coats, boots for winter. With a big sign that said Merry Christmas. We would run back the car and honk and honk til we saw a light come on or a door open, the faces of a parent or child in amazement. My Father did this every year even after we were no longer at home or we helped when we came home for Christmas. It was a tradition that we prepared for others and the sense of giving to us was so more exciting than anything we ever got. The whole next day and into the week we would say "did you see their surprise faces". We never left our names, some people we did this every year for and sometimes we added to the list. It was a whole year preparing things and then a week of shopping and cooking of cookies and breads, sitting and wrapping all those gifts. Tears come to my eyes when I think of all those years and all those people.
If only, if only....
