Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I am 8 weeks PFC and just had my 3/4" to 1" hair colored brown as it was white and gray and ugly. I've always had blonde hair, but I had it dyed light brown as I wanted to see it!! I went "topless" for the first time over the weekend. I'm a little self-conscious, but so what. My head has been too hot from that wig!! But I still like my wig!
It seems all I do is rub my hair and head. It is my new favorite hobby!
-
Denise: I hear ya! I am 7 weeks PFC and rub my hair constantly. I think it's a subconscious way of thinking it will grow faster or something. It's nice that my head doesn't "stick" to the leather sofa anymore because there's actually hair on it!
-
I hate chemo curl.
-
I'm coming up to 9 months PFC and first off, I feel like a teenager again always messing with my hair. Gel, cream, styling, etc. I was so thrilled to be past that stage from 30+ years ago. I haven't had a cut yet so my hair is a surprise package each week. Good hair week, bad hair week, good hair week, bad hair week and I thought growing out bangs was tough :-).
-
AEM47....So darn cute you are....love,love,love,the hair. Very feminine!
-
Arrrg Loosing my eyelashes again.. when is it going to stop.....10 months PFC now
-
Ossa - my Rad Nurse was a 3 year BC Survivor. She said her eyelashes still come and go. They all don't fall out at once, but she loses them alot. GEEZ - so sorry you are going through this!
-
Ossa - I'm 1 yr 1 month PFC and expect the next loss/regrow cycle to start anyday! I've also heard 3 years at least. Booo!
-
Funny story for you hair growers. Last year at this time I had a Halle Berry style with that strange chemo fur texture. I was visiting my parents. Well I'm back at my parents and although my mom loves my hair she also loves the way it looked last summer when it was shorter, no bangs. linky
Silly mom

Speaking of hair, has anyone had their "hair down there" grow in different? Fuller, thinner, etc.? I was glad when my lower hair grew back because I felt more like a women again and not a like my 10 year old. The only difference is that now the hair is more thin and uneven. I suppose it's better to have it full and thick on my head where people see :-), but I kinda expected the other area to fill back in nice too. Hope this question isn't too personal.
-
I am 8 weeks PFC. That is actually 5 weeks if you consider that there are 3 weeks after each infusion...anyway, I'm so impressed by your hair Suz. Mine is about 1/12 of an inch long...going to be a while, huh?
-
rockym...yep it grew back totally dark and thick...before it had a lot if gray in it (I'm 68) BUT the head hair is totally gray and not thick, wish it were reversed...what a bummer!
-
Ossa, I lost my eyelashes at least 5 times (I am now 3 1/2 years PFC) and I do still experience some loss (sometimes a few at a time, which is sad), and they are uneven - one eye is "better" than the other. Brows came and went at least twice and they are still very thin. Thank goodness for cosmetics!
-
Rockym - mine too! The hair on my head thick and strong - but everywhere else - legs, pits, and privates a little sparse. Seems to be filling in more though after a year ...
-
schaztzi and MamaV, I wonder if the rest of our body hair will eventually return to a more "normal" state. I kinda liked what I had down there and it's funny, but now when I look, I see a duplicate of my 80 year old mother's fluff. Or should I say non-fluff. Oh, the things we miss :-).
I wonder if I was to shave it, would that help it come back a bit fuller and curlier as before? Guess I want control over something on my body these days.
-
Rockym....you aren't talking about shaving your HEAD right?? LOL I am finding the arm and leg hair to be lighter and more sparse than before. That I don't mind at all.
I get the control bit...you will get control eventually. Do you have eyebrows and lashes ?
-
rocky mine grew in a little bit thinner than before down there but good news i don't ahve to shave my bikini line anymore.
1.5 yr PFC
-
Rockym, I DID shave it because after chemo there were a few grays down there & I wasn't having any of that! It did grow back normal - no more gray (thank god) and same as before BC. Im 28 weeks pfc. Sorry if TMI
-
JoanQuilts you now have a preview of what will be coming for you.
Thanks ksmatthews.
I found my hair was "different" and went back to normal 1 year PFC. Hair was thinner down south but I think that's pretty normal after meno/chemopause. Even my leg hair doesn't grow as fast. BTW my husband loved my free Brazillian. (Sorry if that was TMI).
-
Ha ha TMI!!! Nothing is TMI ladies - we've all been through so much. Is there really anything we can't tell or ask each other? I'm sad to say I'm back to my full Italian hairy self after 1 year PFC. I actually enjoyed the break from shaving for a while.
-
Not alot is TMI here LOL! All of my body hair is back to its hairy business as usual self! If the hair on my head would follow suit as fast I'd me a happy girl. Dreaming of bangs.
-
I am 7 weeks PFC today and because I am obsessed with the hair growth, I had my husband pull out the tape measure. He measured 3/4" on most parts of my head--yeah! Eyebrows sparse, but eyelashes have come back in--for who knows how long.
-
How long does it take for duck fur to turn into hair? I am 8 weeks out with crazy white hairs spacely populating about 3/4 of my skull. My hair line above my forehead is waaay back there, a little scary. Beginning to see some brows (thought I was hallucinating, at first) but not much in the way of lashes.
-
I have duck fur (love that!) and some brown hair mixed in, still can see my scalp. No eyelashes (STILL!) and very few eyebrow hairs. Not much hair grown on the rest of my body yet, though i saw a few strands of blonde hair on my shin, but not worth shaving. Still no hair down south.
-
schatzi14, Nope, not shaving my head :-), although when I first colored my hair when it was almost an inch, it turned orange and I was bummed out so I did shave that first inch off. I used a wash-out in 28 redish color, but it didn't work out for me that time. Since I was still wearing my wig, I figured what's an inch anyway. Seeing that orange or trying to fit it would have been worse.
I do have eyebrows and lashes again except the lashes tend to be a bit thinner. I lost them all around a month PFC (not sure exactly) and that was har.
MamaV, I agree, there is no TMI here on BCO. I was wondering if anyone would think I was strange for that question, but I do miss my ol' down south "hair style." Funny how different we all are. Some are happy it's gone or thin and others filled back in quickly. I wonder if age has anything to do with it. I'm now getting closer to 48.
-
Lots of talk about hair in other places...I'm a bit jealous because my hair in other places is coming in thicker than before and a lot of you mentioned yours was thinner. When my hair started coming back on my head I noticed my arms were rough and realized I was getting new hair on my arms. I hadn't even noticed that I had lost any. I know I have more arm hair and facial hair than I had before. Also I am shaving my legs and noticing stubble a few hours later. I did not miss having to shave at all. I am thinking that my hormones are so screwed up right now and that is causing the hair growth, especially on my face. I found an Avon cream that seems to work for removing facial hair.
-
Do you count the three weeks PFC as your starting point or do you count from the last infusion? No hair grew during chemo rounds so to me I am 5 weeks PFC though last infusion was 8 weeks ago. I have the soft buzz cut look, certainly not an inch!! Grrr. Had a wig crisis today, felt like I looked funky. Maybe since I've just started back to work and can look good at o e points and bad in the same day. Have had more hair loss this PFC month- scraggly eyebrows, patchy lashes, and that last bit went down soth. I liked my pubic hair, I don't care what the style is now. I knw, I have teen nieces!!
Hair- think about it more now than I ever did before.thinking massaging your scalp makes hair grow faster? -
Rocky, you can get a merkin
