CAYH: Your hair looks great! I am 6 weeks pfc and it's coming in, but yours looks like it's growing by leaps and bounds! Love your wig, too!
-
CAYH
Wow your hair is really coming in fast and looks so thick too! -
CAYH -- great picts... your hair grows fast! I'm almost 15 weeks PFC-- and we have about the same amount of hair.
Just ordered the yellow tube!
-
Thank you all!
Schatzi - I'm hoping to be brave enough to let my gray be. I'd much rather go chemical free! I lamented just last year to my stylist that I wondered how I'd ever be able to grow it out 'cause I was having to get my roots touched up every 3 weeks...just hadn't consider such an extreme method!
Best of luck with getting that cowlick to cooperate - it's so strange how this baby hair behaves so unpredictably! When I had my buzzcut for that short period of time before even the bristles fell out, they all stood up on end - not at all like this new hair that's so very fine, soft & flat...
kjiberty - at 6 weeks I was getting worried since it seemed to be taking forever to start growing again & then it just took off, so hang in there & your's will too!
Hi MLB & shera! Hope you are both doing well since your chemo finished. Tried to check in from time to time, but just couldn't keep up with the March group. I guess I was wanting to get past the "living with it" & move on to just living...still juicing, rebounding, eating more raw than cooked & going to see a Naturopath soon to figure out which supplements would best suit me. Am feeling quite wonderful these days & enjoying this glorious summer - hope you all are too!
-
Cayh: Thanks! I can tell already. I can't tell you how excited I am--truly!
-
Cayh great journal your hair is really thick and looks pretty long in the back. I am 14 weeks PFC and all though my is coming in nicely you seem to have me beat.I don't think I am brave enough or ready to let my hair go gray though I do agree with being hesitant about the chemicals now.I tried a Lustrous Henna that may be OK for now with the short hair but I don't think I would be able to do it with normal hair.I had to do it twice the 1st time to cover the greys and it is only 3 weeks and I already think I will need to do again as it gradually washes out.
-
lmlola59 - appreciate the tip on the henna. Will keep that in mind!
-
Ossa and Kayak2, I'll try both of your suggestions. Thanks for giving them to me.
-
Cayh - so pretty even in silver!
-
I can't believe I'm finally posting here...I started my chemo a year ago yesterday, and I'm thrilled to report that I've just made my 3rd salon appointment for a trim and to touch up my roots. I can't believe it! I'm still dealing with more curl than normal, but it's getting there! I never thought it would! It seems that it took forever, but once it finally came, it really took off! Hang in there people!
-
Robyn: Congrats on your hari growth. My hair is coming in straight--7 weeks PFC. I wonder if that means it will come in straight or I will be faced the the infamous "chemo curl". It was pretty straight with a little wave before chemo.
-
kjiberty...I am 6 months PFC and until last week my crop was totally straight! Now it is starting to curl at the top and getting very weird looking!
-
Schatzi: What the heck?
-
Yeah that's what I wondered too! LOL
-
I jsut want tell you guys I really like my new hair better than my pre chemo hair. it's much thicker and I can jsut roll out fo bed and it looks great.
-
I saw a Groupon for laser treatments to promote hair growth. Has anyone tried these, or the home version, the laser comb?
-
For those of you with loss of brows and lashes:
I went to Ulta last week and received a makeup lesson. I bought the Anastasia brow stencil kit which works great! I actually haven't used the stencils yet but have free handed my brows with the cream and powders. What a difference it makes! My left brow is literally 1/2 the length after 3 chemo treatments but friends tell me it is difficult to tell after using the brow kit.
I also learned how to use a neutral colored eyeliner and shadow to make my "eyes pop out" according to the clerk. I normally just use mascara so learning how to apply eyeliner and shadow took some practice. With what I learned about how to do up my eyes and my wig, I feel like my appearance doesn't scream cancer.
-
Hikergal - thanks for the tip - sounds like i need to make a trip to ulta!
-
CAYH, I also had to colour my grey hair every 3 weeks, and wondered how I would ever be able to go grey. Like you said, I just never considered this drastic method! LOL. Anyway, I'm not coloring ever again, and I kind of like the 'blonde' look. At the moment it is straight, and I hope it stays that way. I probably shouldn't be so choosy. At least I have hair now . . .
To all of those who are waiting to see some growth: I whined and whined on this forum in June because my hair was not growing at all. It took off in the first week of July, 8 weeks after my last chemo. Today, August 13, I ventured out in public without my wig although my hair is still very short. Okay, I only took my daughter's cat to the airport to send it back to her, but it felt good. It is very hot here, and I just can't stand the wig in this heat. Sometimes I feel as if I'm going to explode if I can't take it off right that minute, so I just went without it. I've also packed away all the scarves, caps, hats etc. The only hat I'm wearing now is a sunhat. Amen!
-
liefie....from all of us that have been there HALLELUJAH!!!
-
Congrats Liefie! It's sooo liberating isn't it? Now be sure to take monthly pictures and/or measurements for the days you feel like the growth is stalled. Go back and look - and it's growing! Yipee!
-
Jenlee - I bought the lasercomb and use it as directed. It is extremely easy to use. However, I cannot tell you if it is working since I am doing my whole head (decided not to try an experiment on my head). I also have been using Rogaine, taking biotin and using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I am 11 wks PFC and have complete coverage and about 3/4" growth. It looks much shorter, though, because it lays very flat to my head. The comb is expensive, but I knew I wouldn't be getting out in the sun without my wig on, so I splurged. I was one of those who was really nervous I might not get good growth. BTW, if you do decide to buy, look on the site for a coupon...if you fill out a survey you get a very nice discount.

Okay, so I did the unthinkable and trimmed some of the white tips off my hair (where I could reach). Boy, that hair is dry (it almost made a crunchy sound when I cut it). I think it looks a little better now. I will say that I wish I had buzzed off all the white fuzz that was left after chemo. Right now it just wants to stick out and look goofy (especially in the back where I can't reach). I am looking forward to my first real cut to give this hair some symmetry.
-
Updated my avatar, 7 weeks PFC now. My eyelashes and brows are finally coming in. if I stretch my hair our and blur my vision it is about 1 inch now. I am tempted to be rid of those dry clear fine tips too but I can't quite bring myself to cut it yet. Soon though...
-
Almost 6 wks PFC. My hair is coming in. Very silver in the back & salt & pepper on top! Still not ready to go topless everywhere.
My eyebrows are history. However, the chin hairs have made a remarkable recovery! Darn things!
I never have lost my eye lashes....knock on wood.
-
Thanks, MamaV and Schatzi14! At the moment my hair is lying very flat against my skull with a perfect round cowlick in the back - the last time I looked like that was 58 years ago as a baby. I also seem to have the same effect as a baby on my family and friends - everybody wants to pet my little round head. LOL!
-
liefie....That is my exact experience as well...6 months PFC, I am trying to train the cowlick from the middle of my head! For me it was 68 years ago.
-
Schatzi, we must have been very cute babies . . .
-
liefie you are remarkable - if one single person pet my head I would have beat the crap out of them! Just sayin'
-
MamaV, I am just so grateful that I do have hair for them to pet. For the longest time I was convinced that my hair would never grow again, so I just accept the petting. It is well-intended after all. LOL!
