OK hair update...looks like it's almost one month to the day of my last picture (avatar). It really does help to take pictures, you can see the difference so much better...
-
margie, your hair looks so great!! That is truly a style, not a chemo hair do. How far out are you?? I am now about 12 weeks, and look like a #1 buzz cut all over. I think I am about 2 weeks behind everyone else who finished with me. I did get hat head today, thats a good sign.
My hair is coming back dark and some grey too, my husband thinks I should keep it like this. I am thinking color in one more week. My eyebrows have come back and are as thick as when I was a teenager, hopefully they will last until my hair grows some more.
-
Christine - My last hard chemo was Feb 2 so that puts me at about 22 wks out...? Once it starts filling in it really doesn't take long although is seems to take forever! I'm going to leave mine and not colour it I think. In the picture it doesn't look too bad - but there's quite of bit of salt and pepper going on there!
-
Marjie we're twins. I part my hair on the other side though and color it.
-
Margie- ADORABLE! You look chic....
-
marjie, When I first went for a wig fitting, I took a picture of my hair 3 months prior at my daughter's wedding when I thought it looked good. It was four months out and due for highlights (I am blonde but have some gray that highlights cover). The woman asked if I wanted a wig with gray streaks in it. Ummm....NO!
-
Marjie your hair looks great! I am still on taxotere, but my hair is growing back ( it fell out 2 weeks after my first AC). It is less than a sixteenth of an inch long, but it's nice to see something up there. But my eyebrows and eyelashes are all completely gone and I see no signs of them coming back any time soon. I see some comments about losing them a second time. Why was that?
-
marjie, what beautiful hair, it suits you well!
My eyebrows thinned considerably once chemo was finished. Yesterday I just bought eyebrow powder, found some at Rite Aid, and it fills in the brows so nicely and looks more natural than the pencil.
I have about 1/4 inch of hair on my head. Kept thinking it was time to get hair on my legs. But every morning I'd run my hand across my shins in the shower and never feel any stubble of hair growing in. Earlier this week, I was wearing capri pants in the car, DH was driving. I looked down in the bright sunlight at my shins and they were covered with long, downy, soft hair! I had no idea! I kept expecting the hair to come in short and stubbly like it does the day after you shave. Next morning, I shaved my legs.
-
marjie, looks fantabulous!
-
Well, I think I'll join in here and get some opinions. I have completed 3 DD AC's, one more to go next Wednesday then 4 DD T's. My hair started to fall out on schedule, between day 14 - 17, and DH buzzed me down to about 1/2 inch at that point. But it didn't all fall out - the top of my head still has some "original" hair, and most of the rest of my dome has the translucent "chemo hair" - about 1/2 long. It seems like it's growing slowly! I had to shave my legs yesterday - there was just enough stubble and I was getting a pedi. My arm hair is still there and I seem to have some very short, soft facial hair. And while I was anticipating the "brazilian" it just didn't or hasn't happened.
My hair has always grown extremely fast. I wonder if this is going to be a "fringe benefit"? Anyone else experience this? I fully expected to be bald as a baby's butt by now, so this is quite a surprise.
Maybe all this will eventually fall out, but right now it seems to be stuck like glue!

Thanks everyone!
Kay1963 - my hair started to grow back on taxotere as well,,,just about when I completely lost all my eyebrows and lashes. They do take a bit to come in but once they start, they come in fast and before you know it, you're reaching for the tweezers! My brows are thinning again - I don't know why - but pencil in hand, I can deal with it!
Lago - I think yours looks much more stylish! I don't necessarily part my hair, that just seems to be the direction of growth LOL.
-
marjie and lago- love your pics of your hair. veryencouraging to those of us just getting some hair back. thanks- and it looks great!
dragonfly is within a day of my schedule. my hair looks like that. i wore wig a while at work-i just don't like wigs. it was more itchy w/ hair even w/ cap. took it off and had a cap. then i took the cap off in my office- walked out to talk to someone then realized i was topless. whoops! so folks have seen my hair. i will probably gradually increase the time w/ no covering until i am comfortable. even though it's way short and skimpy on my little head, i am ready to make the transition in a few weeks. everyone already knows there i have had chemo.
still love the ball caps best for most times.
have a great day everyone- off to work.
-
marjie - your hair looks adorable! Great picture!
-
ladym I loooove your hair....I cannot wait to get some bangs, just want a softer look than the little boy look. What did you have to do differently to get your pics loaded? I have tried everything and mine will not load! Anyway, my avatar is 5 months pfc, and is a lot longer than it looks cause I have to glue it down with lots of products or it sticks straight up, kind of like a troll doll!
-
LisaGH, my hair is skimpy, too, but I've grown weary of the wig, too. This whole month I've gone topless in the house and hate putting the wig on to go "out".
Yesterday I had an appt with the BS in Pittsburgh. It is an hour from my house, large hospital and where I don't know anyone personally. So I went out topless for the first time. It was an odd feeling. I felt people looked at me differently. I think my short darker hair makes me look harsh. Yet in dealing with the different medical personnel, as they spoke with me, they realized my personality is not harsh.
After the appt I stopped at Rite Aid half-way home, also where I don't know anyone. I got some glances from other shoppers that I don't think I would have gotten if I wore my wig. But I wanted to make myself go out in public topless to start to get used to it. Where I live, it's a small town and I run into people I know every time I go out, and not sure if I'm ready to go topless quite yet. But soon.

ok....I did it now I have to make them larger. LOL I am so computer illiterate!
-
carberry - Looks great! You can adjust the sizes in photobucket if that's what you use.
Divine - I felt that way my first time out. I noticed people looking at me but my DH just said "who gives a F*** what they think" and that just made me lift my head up because he was right! I never covered my head again.
-
carberry, cute hair! Glad I am not the only one who is computer illiterate, I will not be able to post until my 14 year old comes home from camp next week.
-
Carberry you look great. I love you avatar pict too. You don't want to make you picture bigger or it will get all blurry. You need to make a bigger picture before you post.
Marjie my hair is the same as yours… we are equally stylin'. I just wear more bling and make up… remember I'm a couple of years older than you so I need a little more help.
-
You all look great with short hair! I'll post a pic of mine soon when I get some pics back from my oldest son's wedding. I'm opposite of most and was never comfortable with a wig - only worn it about 3 times or so, including in my son's wedding, but some of them will be without the wig because I didn't have it on all day. I noticed this morning that I can actually get my super short hair to go in a certain direction if I brush it. Yay! You can even tell it has a part! Hello hair!
-
achpurple I wore my wig twice for my nieces Bat Mitzvah weekend. My avatar is from the party aftwards in my wig (after my 4th tx). I hated the wig always wore scarves. Just in case you haven't seen my transistion photos. (You can start to see my eyebrows are starting to thincken up again too: linky
-
Marjie--your hair is rockin'!
LuvRVing--I had the same experience with my leg hair. Hadn't been shaving, then I noticed quite a bit of fine hair, so I shave about once a week now. I don't have much left on my arms either and I still have some on my head, especially in the neck area.
Yesterday I had my brows dyed at the salon. I still fill in with pencil and powder, but at least I can see what's there when I look in the mirror.

Lago - I'm 48, your 50...knock it off with the age difference thing!!! I love to do the bling and makeup thing but when push comes to shove, I am just too damn lazy. Pretty sure my co-workers are going to be stunned by the new au-naturel Marj that comes back in September LOL! Before my return, I am planning on treating myself to lots of new clothes and big chunky necklaces to help hide my port.
-
I wish my hair growth was further along so I could lose the wig already! It's 100 degrees (actual air temp) on Long Island today. I've been wearing the wig 5 days/week at work since March and it was fine when I was bald but now it's super hot and itchy with my hair growth no matter what I do-wig cap doesn't help. Someone mentioned a fur hat-yeah, that's it. I can't complain because my hair is coming in nicely but I doubt that I'll have good coverage until the summer is over which is a shame...Sigh The pictures are so encouraging and give me a lot to look forward to-keep them coming!
-
OK it's been 32 weeks or 8 months since my last infusion. I am attaching pics I took today after the look good feel better class and I have added them to my progress chart. I hope this is hopeful for those of you still or recently in treatment.
-
Oh btw i blew it dry a little in the most recent pics.
-
Carrol2, AWESOME!!
