Poodlebug- you cracked me up! My hair is also coming in thick, straight and soft AND darker/grayer than I could imagine. But I'm told all the time how Great it looks, and I keep thinking they are just trying to be nice and make me feel better about looking like my dad with a buzz cut! I love the term Chemo-do! I am going to use that one for sure!!
My hair is really, really thick on top...am I headed for the poofy look on top like Kraemer or a future Joel Osteen?? I better accept all the compliments I can right now!
I hate that I'm keeping my wig Just-In-Case...
MJB your hair looks terrific! Did you use a regular stylist or a cancer center spa-type stylist? I'm waiting for the surge of growth so many have promised
-
Hi,
I'm currently on Taxotere and freaking out that my hair won't grow back. How many of you were on this chemo and had your hair come back like it was before chemo? I really need some good news to hang my hopes on.
Thanks,
Nancy
-
I'm beginning to love my hair now. I had taxotere and my last one was April 26th. So 9 months later, its soft and wavy and oh so easy to take care of. I jump out of the shower, comb it and fluff and I'm good to go.
-
Nancy, I had taxotere and am a little over 9 weeks from my last chemo and I have about 3/4's of an inch of even growth all over and it looks like the same color with as before. Don't worry sweetie!
-
I think what's important for Nancy to understand is that everyone's hair grows back differently. I had 3/4 of an inch at the 4.5 month mark--that's more than double DMD. Some people get it back right away, others, like me, had a long, painful wait wondering if it were ever going to get there. Do not despair, it can take a while! For me...I'd save my money and not bother with the potions and lotions that supposedly help. I tried a few,and it honestly didn't do anything. I just waited, now I really like the new look! Like so many women, I far prefer the short Mia Farrow look to what I had before.
-
I agree with MHP70. When my hair started growing in it felt like it wasn't growing very much at all but eventually it all filled it and I started to see some length.
I also like my hair shorter and am constantly getting compliments on the colour (gray) and now the style. Which I find amusing because I haven't had it cut since the end of October!
I'll try and post a photo on here tonight - I'm just trying to putter around and get some stuff done before my surgery tomorrow (exchange to implant).
Off to find my camera!
Marie
-
njbhwgirl- I have lots of grey but I went to my old salon and the semi-perm dye covered it pretty well.
-
Best wishes Marie! I hope all goes smoothly tomorrow!!

Marie - I obviously don't know what your hair looked like before for comparison, but this style is really great on you. You have great body and wave in it. Is that normal for you or is that the chemo curl?
My hair is naturally curly. It is too short right now to really tell how it is going to grow back. I was told that you tend to get the opposite of what you had - in other words, mine will come in straight. I am anxious to see what I end up with.
-
Thanks Irr4993 for your kind compliments on my hair.
My natural hair was a soft curl/wave but it was much longer.
When it started to grow in after chemo it was very fine and straight and much lighter than now.
Then it started to curl and I mean TIGHT TIGHT curls like "other" parts of the body hair.
I have to blow it out like this - if I let it dry on it's own it's like Shirley Temple hair! Big time corkscrew curls and it looks much shorter!
I will take a photo of it dried naturally one of these days and post it on here for you all to see how CURLY it is!
-
Char: There are several straightening products: Paul Mitchell Skinny Hair serum, Sally's Ion Straightening shampoo & conditioner, but for when it's first coming in curly: Marc Anthony Straight hair creme (at RiteAide)--just style and let it dry--great for when you can't blow dry it yet!
-
Chemo hair is difficult to dye and may not tae dye in the beginning. There are products you can buy at the beauty supply you can add to your hair dye to help it "take" better and you can also buy products that specify 100% grey coverage. Usually, you leave the dye on 45 minutes at least.
-
MBJ - thanks!
-
MarieK~ You look amazing! Can't wait until mine is that long... I have a little over 2 inches all over... curly and FLUFFY (like one of the other ladies mentioned... think Kramer or Joel Osteen!) But it's hair and it's mine!!!
-
Marie - I have been wondering if mine will come in even curlier. Based on your description, mine ws probably a little more curly than your prechemo hair, but less curly than your postchemo hair. It it is any curlier, I will have the extreme curls like you. I dont want straight, but dont want wild curls either. I really just want my old hair back. I regret the many complaints about it over the years!
On a positive, I am now 9 weeks PFC and have full coverage. I was worried my top was going to be slower to come in but it has really picked up lately and is now seems to be growing better than the sides. I also have A LOT of gray on the top of my head. I knew that was going to be the case. It is always the area that quickly showed gray roots for the last decade. But damn, it is weird to see it without color. LOL. The rest is coming in almost black, which is my natural color.
-
Hi Marie,
I love your thick hair...it looks fantastic. I so hope I follow in your footsteps and get my hair back. Thanks for posting!!

I am almost six months PFC (finished Aug. 10) and I have to say that I am pleased with my progress, hair wise. I have good coverage on my head, my lashes returned to their former long and thick glory, my brows are needing a wax soon, and it has come back everywhere else
, but this morning when I was putting my mascara on I noticed that I have a bald spot right in the centre of my left eyelid! I really thought that I was past this, but I guess not. Has anyone else had this happen, this late in the game?
-
dutchgirl, I finished chemo August 18 and I am losing my eyelashes again. Evidently this can happen several times until the growth pattern becomes random. Who knew eyelashes had such a short growth life cycle!
-
guygirl - your wig looks like natural hair - not a wig at all. It looks great on you.
Gray Magic is a good product to put in hair dye when coloring your hair. I used a demi-permanent color, with Gray Magic and a 10 developer and it covered the gray well. I'm thinking about going to a salon to get my hair colored, though. I want something that has more character to it than just the plain dark brown hair. I don't know, but I have to make up my mind soon because my roots are growing fast. I am going topless when we go camping in 2 weeks and I don't want gray hair showing!
-
My friend lost her lashes 3 times because of chemo. They're back now and it looks like for good. She took Taxotere.
-
I love color even in short short hair that's growing in. My last one was warm chesnut brown and it has a hint of red in the sun. The dull brown mixed with charcoal just didn't feel like me. So that, along with eyelash extensions, I'm feeling a bit better about my look. I'd really like to try blonde but I don't want to bleach this virgin hair and end up with damaged hair from the beginning.
-
Daiva Are you having trouble sleeping?? You posted soooooooooo early...or are you one of those morning people?? I hope you are well!
I colored my hair with Natural Instincts and it covered the grey really well. The color did not take as well for the crown of my head as MBJ stated happens. Also I just colored it a few weeks ago with permanent and it took at first but now its fading on top. Im gonna leave it though as long as it's not grey I am happy.
Ok So I sorta have a date tonight with my OLD high school BF!! We flirted at our 25 year reunion about a week before I was diagnosed and have only chatted briefly on facebook in the last year. He has been going through separation etc. I told him over the phone my hair was back to its natural color but he doesn't know what I've been dealing with this last year. I am so nervous! I feel like I need to tell him since it's been such a big part of my life this last year and I obviously did not select my latest hairdo. I've known him since I was 12 so I feel comfortable with him I just don't feel sexy. I guess we'll see what happens.Oh and of course its going to rain all night tonight and my hair is NOT pretty in the rain...even my old hair hated rain.
Wish me luck! Happy Friday
Diane

Oh Diane...I am wishing you the best of luck on your date tonight! I know what you mean about not feeling sexy...it is hard to when our appearance has changed so much. I really believe though that a confident woman is a sexy woman...you are still the same person he knows and likes but you are now even stronger for all you have gone through. Share what you want about your story...because it is such an important part of our lives but don't spend the night talking about it...you know men love to talk about themselves...haha! Relax and enjoy, I am sure it will all go well!!!

Hi ladies ~
I don't come around much anymore... but wanted to give you an update on my hair (LOL)
Here's my picture progressions:
Bald in early August
Early November:
Christmas:
February 1st - tired of the grey - got color!
-
Stephanie, you look beautiful. Nice hair color and hairdo. It looks like it's starting to curl up.
-
Stephanie....I love your hair!!!!! You look fantastic!!!! Thanks for sharing the pictures.
-
thank you! The Christmas picture I absolutely loved! My daughter took it with her new DSLR camera ( I got her as a gift) and she did a great job. I had been coloring my grey roots for years!! And always said if it were a pretty white / silver ..... I'd leave it that way (but my roots seemed mousy grey). Well I wound up eating my own words, as it did come in a pretty silvery / white
It just felt too "old" for me. I just turned 46, I feel young, I act young, so I'd like to look young(er). Besides that.... I'm single and gonna have new boobs - so I want my hair to match - LOL
Though my friends loved the grey, when they saw my new color this week they said "she's baaaack!" And one friend put it perfectly: You were bald because of cancer. You had super short / grey hair because of cancer. You are blonde because you WANNA be!
Takin' the power back - that's all!
-
Hey girls my hair looks just like suz45 and I just did my last taxol Jan 24 I am trying find out when I can dye it so its all 1 color. Anyone know? And am also trying to figure out how to upload a picture on here. I am headed to Ft Myers Beach March 19th I hope it's longer by then
-
gingersfavorite1 thanks for sharing your progression. I am your november stage now, i am 8 weeks PFC. I haven;t had short hair since i was like 5. So far most of it is my natural dark brown.with some grey. You look great blonde, and love the style.
