Hi, another MO girl here- in the Springfield area with ccbaby- has anyone had a DIEP done by a doctor in MO?
I'd be interested in a get together as well!
-
Hi Alyad I am from Rolla mo I had all my surgerys done in Boston my home town my surgery and plastic suregery because my family all live there and I needed some support and help and they were blessings... I love Springfield I use to date a guy from there I think I liked the town more than him ha its so easy to get around in and shopping is great. I got done with my chemo in Aug. 08 and my hair still isnt all the way in its very thin and I am so disgusted ...but I am working on it. Where did you have all your work done? This site has been so helpfull for me on everything from the begining until now there are so many different threads to read.
Take care

Hello Alyad,
I live in Springfield MO and had my DIEP done in New Orleans. At the time, I couldn't find a surgeon who knew how to do it. I have heard of someone who does it in St. Louis maybe? I don't remember the name. Maybe some of the other ladies here could add some input. It has been soooooooooo long since I came on the this site. I have to go to the library as I don't have a computer at home any longer. I had a double mx with immediate reconstruction DIEP, but did not have to have radiaion or chemo. Because of the route I chose, I am cures they say due to it was caught very early. It has been one year this June. If anyone decides to get together , pleas send me a message and let me know. I would love to join and be a part of it. Good luck Alyad, and God Bless you. Take care.

hi Maura and Dottie, I live just south of Springfield, but I am orginally from St. Louis. I was asking about the DIEP for a friend. I had a TRAM done by Dr Geter at St. Johns in Springfield. I am happy with the results, but I wish I had DIEP instead bc of the shorter recovery time. At the time it didn't occur to me a STL doc might be on my insurance plan- but I went and saw someone up there (Dr Marie Taylor at Barnes- a bc specialist radiation oncologist) for a radiation consult and she was great.I was in a grey area whether to do rads or not, so my rads onc suggested I go see her and I am glad I did.
I did do rads- a newer more precise form called IMRT or Tomotherapy. Maura, I am a year behind you or so, I finished chemo in June 09 and rads in sept.

Aliyad your luck your hair is growing back I had Taxotore and I dont have as much hair as you as far as thickness I am so depressed from this all of my health issues are great still have chemo weight to loose but whatever I have all winter to work on it but the hair is like a big bandaid showing from my cancer so enjoy all your new hair and be happy you didnt have my chemo ...
Maura...

Maura, I am sorry your hair is still thin a year later. I have read that with taxotere that can happen. I had taxotere, and I was allergic to it. I wonder why it affects some people's hair growth so differently. My hair has always been really fine but I had a lot of it-so far it seems the same as it was before- dark and straight. I think the hair loss is the worst part of it- like you said- a big bandaid showing, announcing to the world you had chemo.

Hello Ladies,
I'm 37 yrs old and live in Granite City, IL but grew up in STL and go to the Siteman Cancer Center in STL. I would love to talk with other women that are in the area that are going through this with me or have already went through it. I had Bi-lateral Mx with TE's on Nov 12th...
-
Hi Marilyn,
I am in Springfield but I went and saw a rads onc at Siteman in STL- she was my favorite doc I've seen through all this- I was really impressed with the care there. I had a left mx last jan with immediate TRAM recon. Are you doing chemo?
-
I went to the same rad onc in St Louis as Alyad did for a second opinion about rads. I liked her and the hospital a lot too.
-
Moberly Mo. Here. Just north of Columbia. It would be great to meet you ladies. I could probably even talk my twin sister into it. We are both BC surviors. Both diagnosed in Nov 08 within a week of each other at least we got to go through this together. Both doing good.
-
I did all my treatments at Siteman in St. Louis (Barnes). I finished up my radiation with Dr. Marie Taylor in November 2009. I finished up my last Herceptin in March 2010 (Her2+). I am now consulting with my plastic surgeon, a Dr. MycKatyn, to have a DIEP June 17th. Anyone else out there know anything about him? Anything?
-
Momgovero...Dr Marie Taylor was the rad onco that I went to for my second opinion for radiation. I really liked her a lot!
-
Hi! I live in downtown St Louis (originally from WA state, though) and was diagnosed in late May 2010. Had a lumpectomy in late June and next week I have another surgery since one of the margins was unclear. And then on August 3 I start with CMF chemotherapy (along with radiation). I have been receiving all my treatment from the St Louis Cancer and Breast Institute.
So "hi" to all the other Missouri folks! I work at SWIC in Granite City so I am little bit Illinois too!
-
I am also a Missouri girl.
Have been in treatment since Jan 2010 at Siteman Cancer Center - Forest Park.
Any more Missouri girls out there?
-
Hi from Blue Springs, MO. Having surgery tomorrow at Menorah in Overland Park, KS. I was just diagnosed at the end of June and still haven't figured everything out yet. I worked for Sprint, then Embarq, and took a separation package in November.
Best wishes and positive thoughts to all of you!

Good luck with surgery tomorrow LuvRVing.
Make sure to join the July surgery thread that orchardgirl started. She was on the June thread, but her surgery got pushed back and she started the July one. Lots of ladies on there, and it helps to compare surgeries, procedures, etc. Just a thought.

I am from Lee's Summit... if you need anything.. or have any questions..PM me Michelle.

So how are the Missouri folks doing? I have a re-incision lumpectomy tomorrow morning -- and then chemo starting the next week. Getting nervous about the new school year starting -- I teach at SWIC in Granite City, IL -- as I was hoping (after my initial diagnosis in May, just as school was ending) to have this all behind me by now.
Anyway -- just thought the Missouri thread needed a little traffic!
PS: I live in downtown St Louis but am originally from Seattle!
-
English_teacher - sorry you are having a re-incision, that really sucks! Once is definitely enough! I had my surgery on Wednesday and everything seemed to go very well. I took pain meds the first night, and have been taking just Tylenol ever since. My SNB was clear (woohoo) and the surgeon implanted the Mammosite placeholder which she'll swap out this week if the pathology report contains no surprises. I also have an appointment with an onco at KU Med on Wednesday. I am hoping my Oncotype score is in by then as it will make for a better discussion about whether or not to do chemo. I'm leaning heavily against it as I am also Type 2 Diabetic and it doesn't mix well with chemo, not that anything does...
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow!
Michelle

Thanks, Michelle! My Oncotype score was 22 which put me in the fuzzy grey intermediate zone. I decided to be as agressive as possible with this so it won't, hopefully, pop up again! Glad your surgery went well -- I had a serious infection after my first one which put everything on hold for about 2 weeks so I am hoping this one goes much smoother (from my understanding, the re-incision is way easier than the original surgery!). But it is great that your SNB was clear! Mine was too so, honestly, I didn't think about the possibility of chemo until it came up when I met my oncologist just a week and half ago.
So -- Good luck on the Oncotype score -- that was something I knew nothing about just a few short weeks ago! But it's great that we live in a time where this sort of technology is available! Good luck! And thanks for the well wishes!

Hi enlish teacher,
Sorry you're not over with your treatment before school starts this year. I'm glad you stopped by though. This thread did need a little traffice! I live in Springfield, so we are hours apart. St. Louis, and in downtown hey? I'm sure it's a bit more exciting than Springfield! I'm trying to get things together to be able to have Stage 2 of DIEP reconstruction sometime this year. I haven't had to have chemo and decided on bilat mx with recon vs lumpectomy with rads. So no rads either. Sorry you have to go through so much, many of the women here do.
Hang in there, and God bless.
Dottie

Thanks for your kind words, Dottie! Lots of super nice people on these boards!
-
Dottie,
I am in springfield as well (ozark actually). Where did you go for your DIEP? I had a TRAM done jan 09 at St John's, but recently got switched to Cox insurance. I have an appt next week with a pS to talk about getting my nipple done but I know nothing about anyone at Cox.
-
Missouri here, would love a get together sometime
-
MO girls, let's revive this thread and see who all is in the area...maybe a get together or shoulder to cry on or go out for an evening. I live in Columbia, MO and am having treatment at Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish in St Louis
