The Brand New Respectful Presidential Campaign Thread

We can sit here and knock Hillary till the cows come home, it aint gonna change a thing. It's going to be McCain vs. Obama, and the problems with immigration won't change, health care won't change, or lack thereof. Either they'll tax the rich, or they won't. Bush had a measure before congress to start drilling in Anwar, blocked by the environmentalists, and either they move it out for a vote or they won't. I don't want to think about the cost of airfare that's coming, or the cost of goods, and food that's delivered by truckers.
Thus it comes down to, who can do the best job in moving legislation that is being blocked out of committees? Who's the strongest, meanest, and most persuasive of the two? I'll go with McCain to get that job done.
-
Well, it's been the dems who have blocked all drilling. Drilling for oil should have been happening many years ago. And that's not to say we cannot continue to look for alternative fuel. Independent truckers are going out of business. Food prices are going up. So, don't blame this on the oil man, Bush. Blame the ultra stupidity for blocking drilling for oil on the liberals.
I was listening the the libs favorite speaker, Newt Gingrich. He suggested taking the money for the "tax free holiday" from pork barrel spending...less spending in the house. I thought, that's it!
There's enough blame to go around for all parties.
Also, have any of you thought that the war in Iraq has been revved up to sway some's opinions on who to vote for? Al Queda sure doesn't want McCain in the White house.
One of my dd's is liberal. However, she said that Obama is even too far left for her. She's a Hillary supporter.
I will be glad when this election is over with. However, sometimes I get a bit afraid OF the outcome. I just can't wrap my mind around Obama (and his lovely wife) being for partial birth abortion and ON TOP OF THAT...kill the baby if he/she comes out alive. My stomach turns and my anger rises everytime I think of it. Why hasn't this been brough to the American's attention. I know the Obama lovers won't change their minds about him that's been proven by this last election. However, independants and moderates may find a problem with this. It makes me sick!
Shirley
-
Is that really true? About the kill the baby if he or she came out alive after a partial abortion? Do you have a link? I absolutely am astonished and had no idea. If that is what I'm endorsing as a liberal democrat please show me the truth because there is no way I could endorse that inhumane act. I have problems enough with late term abortions but at least believed the fetus felt nothing. How do they terminate the babies? Drown them like kittens? WTF? Is this true?
Humbly,
Anna
-
Seriously, someone e-mail me a link. I will definitely look into it unobjectively. As much as I wish my marriage was respected and as much as I wish the Christian religion, (not the values as we already follow most if not more) are not imposed upon my children, I definitely don't want to see born children killed on account of our reproductive rights (such as I've seen the abortion issue before reading that they may be killed after birth).
-
Did anyone hear that today Brazil announce 3 massive oil finds in the Atlantic?---(the third and largest just being discovered). They also have an alternate fuel source --not sure think it's palm sugar.
Anyway as a result they will be completely free of any dependence on Middle East oil!
Now can someone enlighten me why this is not occurring here?
-
Bush deserves no respect and hence gets none.
Are we talking about the same stock market? Last time it had a good run was with a Clinton in the White House. He has run this country in to record deficits with his unlawful, wasteful spending and tax cuts. Since he took office I can think of not one improvement in the U.S.
Bush would have done us a favor to have a few girlfriends and not start a couple of aggressive wars. Why doesn't he send Jenna ? Too good to be subject to what he subjects others in this country to? He is a disgrace and an embarassment to the country. That is one good thing about the present elections, he will be gone from office.
Joanne
-
Joanne what are you talking about.....for the last year it has been running in the high 1300's and even low 1400's.........it is at an all time high.......not until the Democrat's took over congress last year and of course it comes down......but maybe that's just a coincidence because everything cycles.........Anna the link is either on this thread or on the Republican thread.....this was when Obama was in the Senate in IL.......even the most liberal Democrat voted against it........except Obama........I'll go back and link you up.........Shokk
-
Joanne--Here are some links for you--
There are some more on the Republican thread.

Saluki...when you read the last link, it looks as though he stands for everything and nothing, sort of: I will tell you whatever you want to hear.
-
Joanne Bush can't "send" Jenna........if Jenna wanted to volunteer I'm sure it would make Bush very proud........just like Prince Charles I'm sure is very proud of Prince Harry.......but President Bush can't force his daughter to enlist...........she is an adult and would have to make her own decision....Shokk

At least we can agree on one thing Paulette: we amuse each other! Oh, and shokk is amusing also. And truly, I agree about the baboon business and Bush--he gives the baboon a bad name! I still haven't been able to describe him by animal, vegetable or mineral--he's too disrespectful himself to be respected. Respect must be earned. He has done nothing to earn my respect.
And, furthermore, there is such a thing as free speech in this country, and I don't remember reading anything in that amendment that said we had to be respectful to any president.
Clinton's tenure in the White House quickly reduced almost the entire federal deficit that was created by the first Bush planted in the white house. The economy was great, and there were bounteous jobs and businesses doing very well in this country. The unemployment rate was at an all time low. The US was respected and had many, many more allies than it does now. Oh, yeah--you can keep singing the story about the Bush regime, but it is what it is--a story. Tell it to your grandchildren. We democrats are beyond listening to the lies.
We now have the highest unemployment rate ever, the Bush's Folly of War is causing Bush to borrow from China and put us in so much debt our grandchildren will be working full time and earning less than the minimum wage because they will be paying off the debt--either in state taxes that have been raised because Bush doesn't know a balance sheet from a piece of lined paper and what to do with it; or from paying so much in sales tax even milk and bread will be luxuries for some. It's time for a breath of fresh air, and no more of the oldies in government same old, same old.
Truth to be told, the reason we are still under the oil dependence is not the liberals, it is big business that has not looked at other sources because it's so easy to make money off of us and live the good life. Drilling for oil is not the answer. And those fighting the drilling for oil should not be called liberals, for those of our conservative friends--they are environmentalists.
So, get those in government to reward the corporations that create energy sources to operate our cars, and all the thousands of products made from oil to be reconfigured and created from another source other than oil; and we would not need the oil. It means this country has to change the way it operates, and the citizens of this country need to take some responsibility in reducing their footprint on the planet. There shouldn't even be this country or that country, we are all people on this planet. What one does to another, is done to us.
For Bush to have started a war and invaded another country is despicable and utterly evil. He and Cheney have never been held accountable for what they have done. Talk about lying. Even Republicans lie. And when I say "republicans" I am not talking about any woman on this thread. I am talking about the ones in DC in government. The same for the Democrats. I think if we discuss long enough we can find things in common.
Perhaps buffoon would be a better moniker for Bush, rather than baboon. LOL
Well, I'm off to create my chicken curry dish in less than 15 minutes--with rice and vegetables too! Have a great evening everyone.
I pass the soapbox to the next person.
-
Grace.......unemployment is at 5%.............what are you talking about?..........and I must admit I thought Baboon's are reasonably intelligent animals..........the economy is growing......granted it is growing extremely slowly but it grew last month by .04%.........and I sure do love chicken curry..........hmmmmmm.......I guess you wouldn't want to share a recipe with a conservative.........ha...........and don't try and tell me your secret ingredient is arsenic........Shokk
-
Hey Shokk,
Are we following the same stock market? I know that it has gone over 1300 a few times, but when did it hit 1400? My poor little investment portfolio doesn't reflect that??!!! Off to a meeting. See you later.

The topic of the economy and the war peaked my interest to correlate presidential terms of office and party affiliation with actual events.

The stockmarket .... globalization and currency rates affect profits and earnings. The best earnings are coming out of companies that are not purely domestic. Speculation is driving much of the market including oil ... fundamentals are not ... according to most analysts ... It's still up in the air whether the economy begins to heal after June or goes deep into red territory. It's not all in the hands of the Feds. There are those of the thought to sell in May.
I converted my pension portfolio to cash last August....against the advise of my advisor. If I'd stayed in I would have lost over 15% by now. My advisor now agrees that it was a good move. I'm holding for a few more months on that position. Not because of the election, but because of the market fundamentals that were ignored by Wall Street and the Feds for too long.
Halliburton, Chenney's company that received the contract to repair and manage the oil industry in Iraq , moved their corp. from Texas to Dubai to avoid to pay taxes and support the USofA. Chenney's money is in trust until he leaves office.
This story is getting old....
I paid 20% capital gains on the profit of the sale of my investment....and 27% income taxes after deductions.
You can find Bill Clinton invested in Dubai as well .... although I read that he was divesting in prep for Hillary's run for the WH.
-
Since it looks like we'll see $5 a gallon for gas this summer (it's even hard to write that number), I think we all should have invested in Dubai. That would have been a nice hedge fund.
-
We've been paying 5.52 euros per gallon of diesel fuel for over a year now.
There are time share apartments for sale in Dubai ...we were approached to invest. I said no thank you....first because I can't afford it and I'm happy where we are...but also because of they way women are treated in that culture....I wouldn't want to support that mindset.
Probably the best hedge fund these days is to make your own garden of food. Save money and eat healthy at the same time.
-
Marilyn it is always good to see you here........you are living a dream that I have always had and living in Italy...........for some crazy reason I decided that I was going to have my children when I was older so here I am 51 years old and trying to finish raising my youngest who is 15.........maybe some day God willing I may at least visit there...........I must say and of course I don't have a horse in the Democrat race but the way Hillary is being treated by the media to me is just unbelievable......PMSNBC is just outrageous.......what happen to objective journalism........I will be the first to admit that I am no Hillary fan but the woman is a lot better choice then Obama and a lot more electable.......why has her party turned against her? When did this happen?......Why is she having to pay for the sins of her husband because that is really what is going on.........I just don't get it.........she has paid her dues.......she is trying to save the Democrats and they have turned their backs on her.......jeez........of course this is just MO but I truly feel sorry for her........Shokk
-
Ah, Shokk,
Hey #2 favorite repub...there you go, making me use a phrase I thought was an oxymoron...decent Republican!
love ya, girl!!
Cherryl
-
Shokk, I agree with you--shock!--partly. I think the media has been very unfair to her. However, I seem to recall (and I do have med-brain so bear with me) that there were questions asked of Hillary that were not answered satisfactorily regarding travelgate. And some advisor/friend to B&H died under mysterious circumstances, and she is known for being very secretive and operating close to the vest (according to some who worked for/under her and spoke out in interviews), so there are some who feel she will not be forthright and honest as the leader of the country. I'm not saying I feel that way, just those might be the skeletons in the closet that will come out in the fall if she is the nominee. I like that she is staying in the race, and I like that Barack supports her in this decision. Other candidates vying for the nomination would not be so supportive of her. I like that he respects her and believes that she is a strong opponent in this race. I am interested in seeing how this plays out. When discussing politics with friends, the issue is not that Hillary must pay for the sins of her dh, but that she has her own issues and ways of working that are not seen as teamplaying or working across the aisles. When she keeps saying "we" I think some Democrats hear this as she and Bill, so there are questions as to how much he will influence her, or try to--yes, she is a strong woman and can certainly make her own decisions--he just seems to be itching to move into the white house again!! I think her "we" actually speaks to the Democratic party as she is trying to paint a picture of inclusion. I noticed she is not including Barack or speaking about him in any of her speeches. The media pundits are certainly analyzing that. I believe that the media over analyzes too much, and sometimes they are way off base and some voters get confused. JMHO
As for the recipe, (you really want one from the liberal democrat leaning towards Barack but also would support Hillary?), well here it is:
Grace's Chicken Curry in a Hurry (adapted from RealSimple magazine)
1 tsp olive oil (I use olive oil in spray bottle)
1 yellow onion, diced
4 carrots, sliced thinly (my addition)
2 tsp curry powder
1/2 c yogurt
3/4 c heavy cream
1/2 t kosher salt
1/4 t white pepper
1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes (optional)
1 rotisserie chicken (I use legs, thighs, & wings), chopped or shredded
2 c cooked brown rice
1/4 c fresh cilantro leaves, roughly chopped
Heat oil in a large skillet (I use non-stick and spray of evoo works fine)
over medium-low heat. Add the onion and carrots, stirring occasionally, for 7 minutes. Sprinkle with curry powder and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add the yogurt and cream, simmer gently for 3 minutes. Stir in salt, pepper and tomatoes (if using--I don't use). Add chicken. At this point, I put the curry in a ceramic pot w/lid and put in oven for 15 minutes (as the chicken is normally purchased the day before and is cold). At the same time you are making the curry, make your rice in a rice maker or in the microwave (I always double the rice--my hubby eats more than one serving).
You could add other vegetables (or dried fruit) if you wish and leave out chicken. This recipe is delicious with cauliflower and carrots, or even potatoes (forget the rice).
Sprinkle cilantro over individual dishes right before serving.
Even better as leftovers the next day!! Serves 4-8.
Hope you enjoy this as much as we do. It is one of my hubby's favorite dinners.
Did we find something in common Shokk?? LOL

They've come a long way in Dubai over women's issues. Maybe not at home.
But the sheikh is also trying to construct a new society based on religious tolerance and gender equality, at least in the work place. He has made recruiting and promoting women a priority.
"I think we, the government, we are doing all that we can to really make of you a leader and we are concentrating on the woman," the sheikh remarked at a meeting.
That's a significant change for women from a conservative Muslim culture.
"The resistance that people already have in our society because of the religious background and cultural background should reduce," a female attendee at a meeting said to the sheikh.
"That's right. I agree with you, but ah I only worried that you take over all," he replied, to laughter.CBS news Steve Kroft report.
-
Grace sweetheart...........I am a foodie...........and maybe we don't agree politically but when it comes to food whether you are liberal or me conservative we can certainly agree on food......
.....before cancer I loved to cook and now two years later I am finally getting back into my kitchen and cooking again.......the recipe sounds wonderful and I will probably try it this weekend.......I love curry........did you know that in England that it is their favorite spice........I watched a special on the consumption of curry in England........ok back to work I will check back in in a bit.........(((((Cherryl)))).....was your Mom the only black woman in NC that voted for Hillary?
.......later gators.....Shokk

Shokk,
No,I don[t believe she was the only one. Unfortunately, not a lot of others voted for her. I'm very sad.
Ok, serious question. Does anyone have any idea what happened to Amy? She usually wore on my last nerve, but I would like to know what's going on.
Have a good night, everyone.
