There was a talking head on TV insisting that Winfrey didn't leave because of what she heard there from the pastor.  He said, ready?, she might not have liked the choir or something else.

I loved it.  I think I'd rather listen to Chris Mathews talk about how his leg tingles when he listens to Obama speak.  That might be the quote of campaign season.  We'll see, there might be more contenders for the best quote from the press falling all over themselves for Obama.

From Anneshirley's previous post on pg 41:

"Social and economic stress, as well as a lack of faith in the authorities, predispose people to embrace unconventional interpretations."

I have come up with an explanation that may make the "hysteria" theory relevant to this election. I believe that the American people are experiencing great social and economic stress: price of gas, housing market or lack thereof, health care issues, Iraq war.........sure we could all name a few more and add to the list; and from these threads and the media pundits, it is obvious that there is a lack of faith in the current authorities; i.e., Bush and cohorts who need not be named again and again! People are fed up. Many are voting for Obama because they don't like the way this country has been run for many years, and more importantly since Bush took office. There is a push for changing the way this country is run--like getting rid of lobbyists--that's what I think needs to happen. For many Democrats it has been 8 years of Bush and cohorts running amok with our government; taking away our personal rights, invading Iraq using false information to force Congress to give Bush the go ahead, not taking care of Osama Bin Laden and leaving Afghanistan in the lurch because the troops are concentrated in Iraq, and so forth an so on. It's time to have someone who will listen to the American people for a change. Yes, Hillary or Obama would be fine as president for me. I just don't want another 3rd term--with McCain at the helm. We will be dug into the Middle East so far, we will never get out. Interesting, Brian Williams stated tonight that in 2001 when Bush was just beginning his first term in office, the price of a barrel of oil was $39.19 (or close to that) and today the price of a barrel of oil is $119.97   That says it all. Many believe that Bush is doing a great job--yeah--well I guess if you own stock in oil you would certainly feel that way--the oil companies have made record profits this year. We have a Pres and VP who have oil interests--that are set up in trusts for them when they leave office--and some don't want to believe that they are self-serving in their interests. JMHO They could care less about us. We don't even matter to them. We aren't even visible to them. This is how I have seen the government operate for years. And maybe some like me are tired of it all. Tired of the same old politics and games. Tired of the lying and promises that are never kept.

I don't believe this "holiday" from the gas tax is anything but a bone being thrown out to the American people, and thinking this will keep them quiet. Well, don't think it will work this time. And Hillary contradicted herself. She originally talked about making sure that our infrastructure--highways and roads and bridges--were repaired and working well and that our highway taxes should take care of that. Part of the tax that is going to be going on "holiday" is the tax that fixes the roads--the tax relief that she now supports.

I don't see her as being any different than any other politician. But if she gets the nomination I will vote for her. Why? Because no one can convince me that a Republican in office means anything but more ignorance of me, a member of this united states, and all the rest of us out there that are fed up with being lied to. Watching the Republicans in office has only convinced me that they are for big business and the corporations. Sure, they want less government--but all they do is send it back to the states to be responsible for; so even if my federal tax doesn't go up, I can pretty much count on my property taxes or my state taxes or my sales tax on going up to make up the difference. I either pay it to the feds, or as the Republicans want us to do, I pay it to my state in some form or another.

There are other issues that Bush promised to work on and hasn't as far as I'm concerned. His "no child left behind" has been an utter failure. We have one of the worst educational systems in the world. We are doing worse at educating our young than some 3rd world nations.

So, the left leaning liberal is back Shokk. Hope you missed me. The road trama took longer than expected so I was internetless at my dear old mom's for a week. Had a lovely time though, as we went to visit a wonderful estate that has the gardens open to the public. The tulips and roses were in their glory, and we will go back in 10 days for the fields of peonies that are ready to pop. Not a bad way to spend a day!

And the weekend was filled with grandbaby and daughter. SIL was out of town on a job, so we had lots of playtime with the one year old. Went swimming yesterday, and she is ready to swim. Fussed because we would not just let her go--dog paddle and leg kicking--she will be a swimmer that's for sure. Then she ate a whole coconut macaroon--she's crazy for coconut--isn't that strange for a baby to like?

Now we have a wonderful smooth paved road and driveway. I hope my home's value goes up by more than what we paid for the roadwork! LOL

    Anneshirley,

Glad to hear your good news. Seems like I've been away for weeks!

I look forward to seeing what happens tomorrow. I'm at the point of not caring about all the pundits and polls, just want to see the results.

I say that Odrama squeaks by in NC and Hillary wins bigger in Indiana.........isn't it interesting that in the last 20 years Hillary has been against Nuclear Power Plants and all of a sudden they seem like it might be a solution for the future.....its a miracle........sure hope that Iran doesn't go after Israel or off we go to war again if Hillary wins the election..........and the highlight of my day was watching them break ground on the new Divided Nations building in New York......just doesn't get any better then that........Shokk

Not for nothing, because the chances of Bush not vetoing a tax holiday bill is slim, Hillary's plan was to take the lost taxes from the excessive profits of the oil companies.

What this holiday will do is help the independent truckers in the U.S.. To them it's a lot of money saved.  Would it have a trickle down effect, I don't know.  We might not individually enjoy much savings from her plan but the truckers will.  Keep America moving.

On another note, I just heard last night from Newt on the O'Reilly show that MI is having a Statewide vote coming up August 5th.  They could easily put Hillary and Barack on that ballot.  Dean would bust a gut having to wait till August for this to be over, but it seems doable to me.

So what to do now?  Mc Govern is telling Hillary to quit.  Anyone know what the count would look like if Florida and Michigan were included?

They did a mock up on CNN last night of what the count would look like if MI & FLA were included, and if I remember correctly, there would still be some question as to who should get the nomination.

Hillary's gas tax holiday, that she keeps pushing, is not a new idea--McCain spoke up first about it.

Interesting the large percentage win that Obama experienced in NC. AND reduced Hillary's win in Indiana to only 20K+.

Wonder what will happen with the next round of primaries? Love to hear the analyses of the media pundits on the different stations. So much speculation. Just watching and waiting to see what happens next.

Thanks Shokk for welcoming me back. Guess your predictions about the percentage wins didn't turn out exactly as you predicted. This race is getting stranger and stranger. What will happen next? And can anyone predict what really ends up happening before it happens? Are we tired of this yet?

To me- being a woman-it is very important to support Hillary- why do you think all the men are coming out for Obama- they are afraid that Hillary would be a better president than a man- an ego trip- by the way- I first supported John Edwards and very disappointed that he dropped out- as he was the first candidate that truly supported poor and middle class issues-I heard Obama speak- but I don't trust him- he says what you want to hear but not what he truly believes.

Her campaign is all but over.  I like that she's willing to take it to the end of the primaries.  She'd be dissappointing a lot of voters if she dropped out now and McCain doesn't have to spend money till this is over.

Unless she can pull out a huge win in W. Virginia, she might rethink staying in till the bitter end.  W.V. should be Clinton country, but the voters there might send her a signal to bow out gracefully.  These dead heat finishes won't give her the necessary popular vote to make her case to the superdelegates.  In reality, her campaign is all but finished.  And it all came down to the MI and FL votes.

The sad part is they predict they will lose 30% of her supporters to McCain.  The thing to do is combine them on one ticket or we may not see a dem in the white house.  The GOP prefers to run against obama.

I would never vote for McCain but I can't see voting for him either. I might as well vote for my inexperienced sweet-talking next door neighbor.

Yes, and isn't it amazing the discussion about Obama not being electable because of his lack of experience.

AND yet, the Republicans have had at least one past president (Reagan) and the current President who was elected for 2 terms (Bush) without any experience before they were elected. What's up with that?

These were  2 governors without any foreign policy experience--and look how they mangled our country's reputation--Iran Contra and Bush's Folly of War.

I'll vote for any Democrat, with our without experience, before I will vote for a war hero who will continue this folly of war. I believe we need a democrat in office to polish our tarnished reputation world wide. The buffoon we have for president has certainly damaged not only our reputation around the world, but the reputation of the republican party.

And neither Reagan or Bush had any care for the average person in this country. It was always about big business and the wealthy. That's why so many of us want the president to be a Democrat. It's now or never if we want to save the middle class in this country.

I'm not sure about these polling predictions--that so many will vote for McCain if Hillary doesn't get the nomination. I think the democrats will unite together and McCain will be history. He's too close to the Bush regime and has shown little care for the average person in this country as he continues to talk about throwing us a little bone while the corporations reap all the tax break benefits. And how long is he going to wait until revealing exactly what his platform is, and specifically what he will do that will benefit me? When will we see a detailed healthcare plan? Or will he be like the current president, and put something in place like the prescription plan under Medicare that is so difficult to understand? All I've heard so far, is that he will continue the war. And I thought Bush said we won this 5 years ago? Didn't he stand on a carrier with a banner? And the surge is working? And in April we had more deaths in Iraq than we did PRIOR to the surge. Don't think it's working so well. That's what McCain will be connected to, no matter how far he tries to distance himself from the Bush in the white house!

And if the GOP prefers to run against Obama, what was Rush Limbo doing having Republicans change parties to vote for Hillary in the primary? And if enough did that (which they didn't) what would that mean--one state Indiana where she "won" by a few % points which doesn't make a hill of beans difference! I think the GOP will be delighted to run McCain against Hillary or Obama--as they seem to think there are enough skeletons in either closet!!

I'm waiting to see what skeletons the Demos unearth in McCain's closet--there just have to be some.

Predictions are just that--predictions--we will have to wait for the votes to be counted to really know the truth. We are in for a wild ride until November!!

    Everyone hang on tight.

Grace...your democrat is NOT going to be able to miracously pull the troops out of Iraq and if you are so ignorant to think that you will be very disappointed. Your guy is full of it, it is not going to happen in the manner in which he thinks it is but then you just hold that thought! He will not "save the middle class" either because he has no concept of a middle class, he is not middle class he is an elitist. But dream on, it's free and it takes the hassle out of everyday experiences that so rile you up!

And why does McCain have to have skeletons? Is it so important for you to think that because he is Republican? What if he really is a nice honest guy? Why is that so hard to fathom? I would hate to live in your world where everything is wrong, wrong, wrong...

    Paulette,

My world? wrong, wrong, wrong? Guess I can be glad you aren't here in my world, which makes everything in my world just right, right, right, or should I say left, left, left? LOL!!!

Just for your information: everyday experiences do not "rile me up," as you seem to think. Actually I find it rather humorous that I can provoke such a response from you! So, what a great laugh for the day--thanks for that much! As there wasn't much else in your post worth responding to!

Whoo-hoo! You are a hoot!! Cool

Are we (Republicans) suppose to find comfort and believe that the Democrats can do a better job running this country?  Based on what?  The way they are running their primary?  What a joke...........Has anyone seen such a mess as the Democrat primary process going on today? The Demogods are to AFRAID to admit they have made a huge mistake in deciding on Obama.........because of some kind of misplaced liberal "we have sin" toward the black man we must therefore nominate the weaker candidate to prove that we are better and more enlighten party..........what a joke............how in the world have you managed to disenfranchise Florida and Michigan on your own.......you can try and blame the Republicans in Florida but your guys agreed to it...........the Democrats are not very reassuring in trying to prove that they will be better leaders in November and Obama is so ungulified it is unbelievable........at least with Hillary we would have a chance.........jmo..........Shokk

Paulette its like shooting fish in a barrel.....its just too much fun......and liberals would never know that because first of all they don't own guns.....they would never shoot fish.........much less shoot fish in a barrel because that is just too unfair and heartless...........they would talk rationally to the fish and convince it to just "jump" out of the barrel for it's own good........they will take "care" of it...........provide it with welfare.........convince it that it's vote will count........if it has an unplanned fish "pregnancy" then they will take care of that as well.......it's life is going to be sooooooo much better by letting the liberals take "care" of the little fishy..........its just too cute.......Shokk

I'm one of the "liberal democratics" you all seem to be describing, and even I don't take offense to someone calling Bill Clinton a "horn dog" or "skirt chaser", etc.  Just so you know.

That is why, in my humble opinion, Hilary does not belong back in the White House.  She has been dishonest from day one and I can't trust her with the running of this country.  Regardless of what your viewpoints are upon gay marriages, prochoice, prayer in school, that STUPID "gas holiday" that wouldn't even happen this summer, etc., you have to admit Obama is more reflective of the majority, whether republican or democratic.  He is the happy medium.  He is the fair and reasonable voice in the chaos that has become the United States American public.  He analyzes carefully both sides of situations and HONESTLY makes highly qualified decisions.  Hilary?  Well, not so much.  I feel like she doesn't care about the democratic party at all but rather only about her personal agenda of obtaining office.  I've felt like this for many months now and think she should do the graceful act of bowing out.  I wouldn't mind seeing her on the democratic ticket as vice president (and as an atheist, I would still PRAY for Obama's health if they were elected) if it helped the party.

    Respectfully,

    Anna

With all due respect Anna Obama does not represent me or any conservative that I know.......he voted for late term abortion and even if the "baby" should survive the abortion then it can still be "killed"........he does not have the concept of basic economics 101.......raising the capital gains tax on the "wealthy".......that would be the "wealthy" that employees the middle class citizen so it would actually cause many hard working Americans their lose their jobs......because their salaries would be going to pay extra taxes.........the list could go on and on........I know that many Democrats believe that Obama is what the Democrat Party needs and Anna its just an illusion........Hillary comes closer to what the Democrat party needs because she has been in Washington long enough..........Shokk
