Sherry - I have to go to Rite Aid today so will check that stuff out, thanks!
June - I am hoping so much that it is totally nothing! And about your dad, I'm sorry he's having some problems. I don't think there's exactly a right way. My dad passed at the age of 93 in '09 and he had been darn healthy until the last year or so, kept getting pneumonia and increased dimensia. We kids really struggled with what to do...it was the only time we got in really bad fights, as we were all freaked out, but we muddled through and he did go to a nursing home for a short time...all such difficult decisions. I think that your care and struggle over what is best is the most important thing. I was always trying to figure out how to get him to be the most comfortable as he got older. And during that time I blimbed out, now time has passed and I've been able to take off a lot of the weight...I have taken off 26 lbs that I put on stressing over my dad. I am so wishing you the best!!! And enjoy some ice cream as this is not the time to worry about your weight, IMHO.
-
JUne so sorry your Dad had to go to the ER. I spent 17 years in the Nursing Home business and some of the most tender moments I have ever witness is when there was an older couple that were there together. I don't think I would worry about it. At least you Mom will be able to spend the end of his life with him and that will be a true blessing for her as well.
-
Beans and Sherry thank you both for your insight......and Beans you are so right I did enjoy some Ice cream already. LOL!
Sherry it is the sweetest thing when he goes to visit her and they have lunch together and are holding hands. That is what we all love seeing the most and it is probably the best thing for both of them.
Hugs to both of you ladies and thanks for the ear!

Tink, my dad had triple by pass surgery. Even though he is not with us now, other problems. The by pass surgery gave him a new life. Back to playing golf, cycling, hiking and swimming ever-day. He was 70 when he had it.
My baseline mammo came back ok. What's the protocol for mammo's there after?
Had my annual OBGYN yesterday. Told her I was up and down and all over the place. Not sleeping, moody, crying, tired, and sometimes just a plain old bitch. She suggested an antidepressant. I've been trying so hard to stay away from prescription meds but I've decided I'm fed up of trying to be a hero. She is contacting my ONC to see what will work with Tamox.
Treating myself to a massage this afternoon before I head to my Live Strong Transition class. My bones, feet, back and just about everything feel old.
Hugs to all xxxxx

Jules glad your mammo came back good. My onco does yearly diagnostic mammo's for most BC patients. At my hospital on a diagnostic mammo they give me the results before I leave. I now how you feel about taking meds. I have gone from a few supplements to have a AM & PM pill box. I hate it but right now cannot do without. geez I am having a horrible hot flash as I type. Sometimes antidepressents are good for awhile. Hope your aches and pains can get better.
-
Jules - Glad your mammo can back clear. I will have my first diagnostic in a few weeks and was told that is what I will have from now on.
June - Sweetie - so sorry about the ER visit with dad. It may turn out good that parents are together in the nursing home. So what if you are stress eating today - we all do that from time to time - you will be back on track soon.
-
Sherry- drag about the hair. I also have incredibly fine hair..it is dcurly though so often looks likemore than it is...but it has definitely thinned out...I have changed it to a bob at the back a nd a bit longer in the dfront to try and take away from that....
Eastcoastgirl- have toyou tried acupuntcure for the headaches..relallllllllly worked for me when i got them when i was peri-menopausal....
Beanius- good luck with the mammogram. I finally found out today that my appointment is June 7...ucked nicely among all the cardiac crap.....kitty was doing well this morning..eating on her own and half an hour ago she started growling for no apparent reason...sleeping now...adding to my feeling of being overwhelmed.
chabba- what is biotin? an amino acid? can you get it in a healthfood store? My nails have improved since going off tamoxifen 6 weeks ago...when i was on it for the 3.5 months, my naisls were dry and brittle

I had a rough day....went to my dr. appointment and was told they needed to up one of my heart meds to slow my heart rate down...she thinks that will also stop the angina I have had 4 or 5 times sinc ehte heart attack....was put on an antibiotic to ensure the redness around the cat puncture on my thumb does not get more infected ( on the left side...of course)...cat puncture was gotten when pouring liquid down her throat on Tuesday...and think I have lymphodema...shoulder is sooo sore every night and swollen. No matter whan kind of bra I wear..camisole, sports bra....I am swollen and sore...so told my dr. she thinks yes and so then I called the cancer clinic and got a referal to the lymphodema clinic....came home, fed the cat and went to my cardiac class on 'label reading'...now ladies,,....I do not consider myself a know it all but seriously...the room was full and the questions and one liners got on my nerves sooo much that I read their entire book during the hour....she barely got through her information because of all the stupid one liners and comments....I wanted to put up my hand and ask if I could leave I was that frustrated! ARGH!!...also got the name of a lymphdema massage therapist and put in a call to her...am supposed to be memoriing lyrics right now....not....can' concentrate....scale of 1-210...I am about a 12...sorry for whining but seriously? 7 more hours of these damn classes!!!
-
sandee - Biotin is one of the b complex vitamins according to the bottle and you should find it anywhere that sells vitamins. It seems to really be helping my hair and nails.
-
ahha!!! Wonder how it mixes with heart stuff ...will check it out .Thanks Chabba!!
-
Totally off subject. Anyone having problems getting on to the chat room or is it just me?
Jules
-
Yes, I have noticed the same with my thighs and around my stomach. This seems to be a normal se of tamoxifen according to my oncologist.
Except for that and hot flashes I feel fine. Hope all is well.
-
June so sorry to hear about what is going on with your dad... hugs to you
My brothers surgery went well. They removed a benign mass from his heart. The docs didnt seem to concerned about this but they removed it. Tink - Glad your brother's surgery went well and wishes for speedy recovery.
June - Enjoy the visit with your dad - keep us posted.
Gotta whine a bit today. It is hot and really humid here today. We may or may not get some much needed rain. I HATE TAMOXIFEN!!!!! My whole body hurts so bad it is difficult to do much. I feel like I am 86 instead of 56. My fingers are even stiff and typing is not fun but I can't stay away from you wonderful gals. I done whining now - thanks for letting me get it out.
-
Jo we got some much needed rain today. Great thunderstorms, we needed it we were so dry. I was worried about our ranchers and their hay fields so this should be good for them. It is now 66 degrees, can you believe it. Sorry you are achey. I had to go back on my glucosomine. I thought I would try to stop it and my achey hips returned as well as my shoulders. So started back a few days ago. Hope it kicks in soon, last time it took about a week to feel relief.
-
Sherry - I have been dealing with the toe joint pain for a couple of months now. Fast forward to the last couple of days and throw in the achey hips and chronic lower back pain. I am taking the triple strength Osteo Biflex and it does give me some relief - not complete - I am tolerating some of it.
I am so jealous that you got rain - I know we all need it. Temp is 91 here but feels like 101 - UGH!
-
June enjoy your visit with your dad and yes please keep us posted hugs!!!!!!
Sherry it still looks kinda nasty but it is getting better! thanks!

Tink - I hate it when I whine. Takes away from all those positive thoughts I try to have all the time. What a battle of wits that is. I am trying to do things sitting down - am sorting out a mess my jewelry is in and trying to better organize my make up drawer. Never seem to have time to do those little things.
-
June- so sorry about your dad....neverending story...but he has support and you have support so that is alllll good...good you are going to get in to see him tonight and good you get breaks too
Tink- great news re. your bolder brother. My big brother is 12, 13 years older than me too. I will see him next weekend in Ottawa
Jo- we have had over 20+ days of rain in a row...I would gladly give it to you so i can get back to walking to work!!!
Had the lymphodema massage therapist call today...will see her the Friday I get back form my five days back home..at 7:45 am! oy...love her energy over the phone though
-
We finally got some much needed rain just before dinnertime. It has not rained here in 8 months. The ground is going to soak this water up with no problem. The temperature dropped from 91 to 73 in a matter of an hour. Still achey though - UGH!
-
Hey Jo! Come to Maine...It should top out at 50 for the next week, and it looks like in the next 7 days, we'll have 6 with rain! Yahoo!
-
GirlFriday - Are you kidding me? I would freeze my South Texas butt off. I don't mind the heat - been in Texas since 1989. But for you, I would dig out what few winter clothes I have and come on up - get the coffee and/or hot chocolate ready. Can't believe I am saying that in the middle of May.
-
Tink - good news on your brother and glad your daughter's leg is doing better.
June - enjoy your visit and hope your dad gets better from the pneumonia and heart failure.
My achiness seems to be less then it has been so maybe the side effects will subside for a little while. Still only sleeping if I take sleeping pills which I hate to take. Constipation is still a problem. I was good for about a week when I started the meds for the TB exposure but back to having problems again. Will be so glad when I don't have to take any meds.
It was warm and humid here today. 80 degrees but is supposed to be high of 59 on Monday so we are enjoying some warmth while it last.
-
GirlFriday you crack me up.....nice forecast, similar to ours here in Ma.......
Peg unfortunately he is terminal and this is par for the course......he is on his way out and has gone down hill so fast, so so sad!
Had a great and very tearful night with my Dad. So so very hard to watch him with every breath he takes. The room was full when I got in and I was the last one to leave and we had some quality time even though my daughter was present. He looked exhausted as he is never without company. I think it is going to be any day......god help me through this one! They said his night last night was a rough one and the Hospital called my brother to see what measures they were to take with him as he is the one on the Health Care Proxy and he stopped breathing.
As for me, my Onc called and postponed my appt till tomorrow, so fingers crossed it is nothing and will keep you all posted.....
I hope drinks are in order for tomorrow night in the Caboose.....I need to get away!
-
June - So good to hear you had a great visit with your Dad - I'm sure it is very hard to see him in his present state. Sounds like you have a very loving, supportive family that will help get you through this - of course we will all be here for you as well - that you can count on.
I agree, drinks tomorrow night are in order. I can't quite get out of this funky mood I have been in for the past week. I just go through the motions of work, making dinner, etc. Don't really want to do much of anything - have to force myself to get something done. Hopefully, with down time over the weekend, I will feel better on Monday.
-
Jo what's going on, why the funk? Wish I was there so I could cheer you up! I think you should get DH to take you out for a nice and relaxing evening with a few cocktails and we can meet up later for our own drinks....kiss kiss my friend!
