bone scan done. And doc called...
Okay ladies. I got home from work yesterday, Friday evening, to find a message on my machine from my oncologists office telling me the doctor has made an appt to see me.
I just had my follow-up Oct. 25 with bloodwork. I also had a bone scan last week because of neck pain and elbow pain. I sort of freaked out when I got that message because it was so unexpected. Any other tests I have had in the past, the doctor has never called me. I always call and am told my tests were normal and they would call me if there was a problem. So now, they have called. I have to wait until this Monday to phone and find out when my appt. is and why I need an appt anyways.
Doesn`t this sound kinda worrisome... I don`t know what to think. My neck pain has died down somewhat. I mean, it has moved to the back. And my elbow is sore and stiff as usual. No change there. I saw the bone scan. There were no lit up sites that I noticed.
So... I don`t know what to think. I guess I need calming down by you lovely ladies.

Gosh Wendy, I'm so sorry they left you in such a spot! Why don't you consider calling the on-call doctor and asking what's up. Usually they communicate with one another prior to the start of the weekend over important matters, possible calls, etc...(at least I hope so).
If you saw the scan and have seen prior scans and know some about what to look for, that should give you some reassurance, as well as the results of your October blood tests.
I just wish they wouldn't do things like this to nice ladies like us here. How would they feel if this happened to them?
I'm hoping it's just to discuss what your oncologist wants you to report back should your pain return etc.. or other ideas, like a bone strengthener, or such...
Post back, we'll be here.

I just hate when they call on Fridays! For anything!
But esp. when it's something they give you no good information on and our minds can pull up the worst case scenario and chew it to death all weekend.
-
Just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you. I know waiting is the pitts, but we're all here for you. Hoping for good results!
-
Wendy---So sorry you have to play this waiting game---I've learned through experience to get all labs and scans taken at the beginning of the week. Weekend angst is the worst for runaway minds.
As for the bone scans there can be a million reasons to linger over one area and you lay there wondering; there must be something wrong --Why else would they be lingering there?---Really, sometimes it has no relation to what we are thinking--just the protocol involved.
Its really hard to keep yourself from trying to connect the dots.
Keeping you in my thoughts for positive news.

Maybe he sees a bit of arthritis or other normal reasons for your discomfort, and rather than blow you off over the phone he wants to go over it with you.
I agree that Friday messages should be outlawed. I think they do that because then they can cross it off their list of "to do" items.
-
Ugh! Every message I ever had from my onc's office has been on a Friday! Waiting it out over the weekend is torture! My thought was the same as Rose's. Maybe he sees something like arthritis and has to tell you in person. Maybe they've just changed policies? I know that my onc's office used to tell me results over the phone and I almost had a heart attack the first time they called to schedule the follow-up! Thankfully everything was ok and I'll be praying that's the case for you too
Try to divert your thoughts this weekend. It's hard to do, but not worrying until you KNOW to worry has given me back a lot of days I would've otherwise lost. xoxoxoErica

Oh there should be a special place in Hell for doctors who do this sort of thing. I would be beside myself. Hang in there. Monday will come.
-
Yikes,
it sucks that you have to wait to find out what they want. Could be real simple, like "lets go over your results, everything is fine"...then you'll be so happy you'll forget to kill the person that left you dangling.
Fists up!

I know today is Sunday, but I've been thinking about you a lot today. Hoping that you get through when you call first thing tomorrow, and that you get some answers.
If you speak to a receptionist, that gives you an appt thats a week or two away, I would ask to have your onc call you-- you can't sit around for a week feeling this way waiting for an appt.
big hugs your way
