Cathi, sounds like a perfect vegging day for you both, and congrats on not sending anything to DD!!
Sheila, your DH was smart to sleep in his truck at that time of night..the deadly hour!
-
Its pretty much been a PERFECT VEGGIE WEEKEND Barbe, I did a few errands, and will go get the wings in a bit, but thats it. And we didn;t have much sun this weekend and lots of drizzle, so it's perfect to stay in.
GO STEELERS.
-
It was crazy at my house, son pulling for Steelers and hubby pulling for Green Bay. Everytime one would hollar and the other would fuss I would roll my eyes and say 'Lord help me'. Although my son joked that the Panthers were going to win, by taking over the field after halftime and not letting the real teams back on the field.

WO-WOW-WOW, Monday evenings are starting to be pretty intense, can tell without a doubt the kiddies have had little to no "STRUCTURE" for the weekend. But they are smart ones, just a few reminders that " WE DON'T DO THAT, SAY THAT, ACT LIKE THAT" @ ME-MA & PA-PA's and a good nights sleep and things are better for the rest of the week. Why do so many young paprents now- set NO LIMITS , no discipline, no structure. Amanda & SIL have always been that way, from the day they moved here with Landen, nothing is off limits, and then these parents get mad, frustrated what ever because all the kids do is yell, scream, and fight them on everything. No bedtimes, nothing. , no please No Thank you- UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
-
Good for you Cathi for hanging tough! I'm sorry your DH is sick and that his team lost...double bummer for him!
I think one reason young parents now do not have a lot of structure for their kids is they don't want to be the parent, they want to be the friend. They don't want to see kids get upset or have to say no so they just don't. What they don't realize is that kids NEED structure and boundries to not become little terrors. That their lives would be easier if they would just set up those boundries. I've done daycare for years and that was my biggest pet peeve. It would always be a rough monday but by the time the left they remembered where they were and what they could get away with and by tuesday they'd cry when mom would pick them up not at drop off.
Dawn
-
Dawn, you hit it 100%, and daycare says that exact same thing , It really doesn't take Landen long to fiqure out things don't happen here as they do at mommy & Daddy's, I don't say anything bad or out of line, just we don't do that (what ever it may be) at our house. He's such a smart little guy, not perfect - he's 2 LOL. But he gets it. And Ella she is learning too, a no-no and redirect a couple times and she gets it. The thing that I do think maybe happening over the weekends is Ella is being allowed to just TAKE anything Landen has a toy or something, while she is only 14/mo, she also is learning no-no's on that here and at school, mom & dad I am afraid,, are scolding Landen if he gets angry or upset at Ella , of coarse at her age anything he has she wants, .
And your right Dawn, parents think it easier just to give in then listen to a few minutes of crying, they don't understand what they are setting themselfs up for. I have learned so much these past months about raising children, I wish I had known some of this stuff years ago. And TIME OUT/ NAUGHTY SPOT, Hoe effective if done right and consistiently.
Oh well enough of my babbling, .
-
Naughty spot, huh.....I kinda had a different picture in my head when I read that...
-
Leave it to you Barbe-
My NAUGHTY sopt has been replaced with a Elmo easy chair. -
As long as it's easy Cathi......
-
GUTTER- GUTTER YOUR MINDS IN THE GUTTER- LOL
Our minds are willing but the bodies aren't these days.
-
isn't that one of the many reasons we love our Barbe?
-
For sure Elaine - her wit, charm & beauty. And her FUNNIES
-
-
I was thinking the same thing as Barbe
. Although I have watched SuperNanny a couple of times and seen her use the 'naughty chair' as punishment. Myself used a combination of nose in the corner and switch to the back of the legs depending on the offence.Sheila
-
I watch Nanny 911 too Shelia, thats where I really learned the correct way- or effective. Unfortunately, I can't use the Switch, not that I wouldn't mind it every now and again - LOL, I think naughty chair is the modern version of nose in the corner.
This makes me recall my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs Conrad, she had a huge piano in the room, katty-korner, if you were bad you had to sit behind that indian style and then she would bang away on it- ONCE I WAS THERE, That was enough.
-
Oh my I go away and all "naughty" breaks loose! LOL
I was watching Toddlers and Tiars on Sunday and EmmaLi came home from the store with daddy and walked in when one of the little girls was throwing a fit and she looked at me and said, Mom that girl needs Super Nanny! LOL (she's 6, gotta love my girl)
-
Good girl EmmaLi. I have watched that show a few times Dawn when I could not find anything else, I know those pagents are big business, but I don't get all that make-up and stuff, they all look alike to me, and lots cuiter without it, I don't recall any child stars making it big looking like that. All little girls (well most) like to play dress up I guess, but I wonder whyy they can't be judged on their natural age beauty, cuteness and talent, not making them try to look like mini models. Oh I guess I am getting old.
-
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, What a week so far. My little guy Landen is just so unruly, O even talked with his teacher today, but she is not having any problems to speak of, maybe because that is the only real constant he has right now. He is yelling, screaming, kicking, throwing, pushing every limit he can. We had almost not had to use the NAUGHTY SPOT at all, this week is insane. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tired, frustrated granny here, The only thing he is not fighting on is bed time, he still does that like a champ .
-
Well, bedtime is a good one to have a grip on. He is rebelling where he thinks he can. Be firm......
-
Your right about that Barbe, and he sleeps so well too, school of coarse and sinse the tonsils are gone, no more snoring, coughing etc, etc. He's in bed by 8PM, most nights he's ready by 7:30, and lucky, lucky, so far no fighting that, cause I know theres no weekend routine, that is the only comment teachers have actually made, they both come in Monday AM, looking and acting tired.
So heres a trip, my SIL removed me as his FB Friend months ago, but the idiot did not change any of his settings to private so I can still click on his wall and see his posts. He's going to start painting the VOLVO on Monday, some pearl whit, now the labor will be at his cost, thats what he does (and he is good at it) but the paint is not free, according to Amanda a few minutes ago - "OH HIS BOSS IS GIVING HIM A GOOD DEAL, THE PAINT WOULD BE $500 FOR ANYONE ELSE, WE GET IT FOR $300" Barbe I did - sorta nicely say - WOW, thats a lot of grocery money. ARE YOU PROUD OF ME?????
-
I am VERY proud of you!!! You'll have to let us know what she posts back...ehehehehhhee.
-
Oh I was on the phone with her when I asked, Amanda has a way of just huffing, and a QUICK I GOTTA GO, So thats what I got from my remark.
-
Some people just don't have a clue on expenses for children.
I have taken on the responsibility of managing the church sponsored food pantry. This afternoon I am going through the cabinets to see what supplies are there. I looked briefly last night and some of it was outdated (some of what I took last year). I am redesigning the sign up list for donations from the church members. I am going back to the basics. I don't even know how many families we help each month. The request by the ladies group to document how many families has gone on deaf ears so I am basically starting from scratch.
Sheila
-
Shellia we have a pantry right around the corner from us, I pass the church several times a day, the pantry I think is open 3 days a week, I am always amazed , surprised and Mostly sad when I see the # of people & children standing in line. I try and make a donation monthly, God Bless you for what you do in your church and for others.
-
Thank you for your prayers in managing the food pantry. We don't open up to the public but when someone gives us a name we contact them and help them with staples out of the pantry and purchased perishable goods. The outdated food we had, we took to the local shelter home for abused women and the soup kitchen so it wasn't thrown away. some of it was not out by more than 6 months and they will use it quickly.

Oh man, don't get me started on the pagents. LOL Now in defense of the show the type of pagent they are showing is called a glitz pagent so it is NOT the type of thing the next miss america will come from. LOL It is a specific type of venue that is all about the over the top stuff. We are NOT into any type of that stuff, I don't even like it when we have to over do the makeup for EmmaLi's dance recitals but there are plenty of pagents that are not over the top like that show. EmmaLi does like to watch the show but gets upset with the girls who throw fits, she is such a good kid and can't understand why everyone isn't...that includes her friends.

Way to go on your comment about the groceries!!!!! 300.00 would buy a TON of potatos, roasts, cereal, milk, bread etc. UGH I know how frustrating that must be. Wasn't that car just broke down recently...If they have to put money into it I'd say a smart thing would be save that 300 for future repairs but I know that would never happen either. LOL SIGH
Hang in there!!!
-
Thanks Dawn, yes the car needs CV Joints, Tie rod ends, which they have NOT fixed yet, Amanda just always throws those things out on the table, I guess thinking I will feel sorry for them. But it stopped last week and I will send NOTHING this week, except for party treats they have to take in on Monday for the schools Valentines party. I fiqured they would not buy them and I signed up weeks ago. And today my phone rings I answer and the guy is looking for Amanda or William, I said thats my DD & SIL, he just asked if I would tell them to call RENT KING - ASAP - HUMMMMMMMM DAH, guess what ever it is they are renting to own is not being paid for either.
I watched the show last night Dawn, could not find anything else on, and I learned what you were just saying, because the one little 3 yr old I guess never did the GLITZ pagents, and her parents still did not OVER MAKEUP, and she still won a bunch of stuff. I gotta tell yeah I love the name EMMALI, and hey a little makeup for a recital, or even when Alexcis and I got to do our GIRL DAYS, she would always wanna wear a little eye shadow or something, thats just being a little girl. So I guess the GLITZ PAGENTS are what I am not likeing. TO OVER THE TOP
-
Those pageants are interesting. On one hand it could give the child a ton of self-confidence, or blow it completely. The fact that they can strut across the stage in front of all those people is pretty amazing, but the fact that some win and some lose isn't really fair at that age.
-
I think I would like to maybe see the NATURAL Beauty ones or what ever they call them, by far I think they would be cute, but you right Barbe, little ones don't take loosing at that age well.
-
That's why they have all the different levels and titles...so more than one entrant goes home with a crown and a sash. "Supreme Queen" "Ultimate Supreme Queen" the titles get a little silly, and the girls KNOW which one is the highest because it usually has a special prize attached to it ($$$ or a puppy, lol).
I'm just amazed that a parent can objectify their child so badly. They're not a child anymore; they're a meal ticket, a stepping stone to bigger pagents. And some kind of wish-fulfillment on the part of the mothers. I've noticed that there is no mother involved who doesn't love the pagents themselves...it's not like the kids one day said, "Hey Mom I want to travel 120 miles and enter this contest where I have to wear hair pieces, fake teeth, and gobs of make-up that make me look like a street-walker."
I watched a few shows to see what they are about and it made me ill the extent some of the parents went to to push their children along in the pagent process. If my child threw a tantrum, we would be so out of there and I'd never sign them up for another one. Bad behavior has to be nipped in the bud, even though a part of me said the shows were edited for dramatic effect and it might not be as bad as it was portrayed.
