OHIO Get-together: Sept
Hello, fellow Buckeyes. I live in the Columbus area and would like to suggest a 'get-together' for others that might be interested in some socializing and support. I'd love to host a pot-luck type affair at my house on the east side/Reynoldsburg area. Just a couple of minutes north of Interstate 70, 5 miles east of 270. I'm also willing to meet at a restaurant if that would be easier. We're still in WI for another 10 days...... so I was thinking the end of Sept might work. Is there a night of the week that would work? Weekend? Let's cook something up!

Hi Faith and Fifty and Regina,
I live in Mansfield, OH. I found out last month I have Stage l-Grade 3- No lymph node involvement, Triple Neg
Medullary Invasive Breast Cancer. I was devastated. I just lost my mom to cancer 4 months ago yesterday. (breast and lung cancer) My sister (had) stage 4 ovarian cancer and that was 4 yrs. ago! Praise the Lord! I am a grandma and love my family so much. This is so hard. I am going to James Cancer in Columbus. Any feelings about them? I had a lumpectomy with SNL. Still recuperating from the lumpectomy because my incision wasn't healing. Was just there yesterday and go back this Thursday. Haven't met with the oncologist yet. When is your get together? If I can't make it is Sept. I would love to meet both of you for support. I love the Lord with all of my heart and trust Him with my life and will go forward courageous and trying to do my best.
So glad to meet you both on this site.

Cheryl. My heart goes out to you.... so many challenges-- in such a short time. Know that I, too, trust your mother is now restored and whole. I'm so sorry for your loss. And then to be hit with your own dx in the midst of your grief. I am so sorry.
Please know that you've found a great resource in this site.
Our fellow buckeyes seem 'slow' to respond to the invitation to gather..... so perhaps we should move forward for the 3 of us -- keeping it open for others to join of course.
Seems like you must be in the very best place @ the James. How often do you come to Columbus? When would be most convenient for you to meet?

Hi Faith, I would love to join, although I don't have bc. My mother does. I would love to bring her also to meet you. I talk to you and Regina both alot in the chat room.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I actually have an appt. tomorrow at their Dublin location. That's where all of my appts. are. I am not familiar with Columbus at all and get very nervous in the traffic, but I didn't want to go to anyone here. It actually is pretty easy to get to. I have it down now! LOL!
I am hoping tomorrow that I will get set up to meet my oncologist and find out what plans are ahead for me. My incision from my lumpectomy is finally healing after 3 weeks! My SNL healed just fine, but have had to get stitches twice in the other incision. Long story......
I will probably for sure be coming down again next week too. Just as soon as I find out tomorrow, I will come back to this post and let you know what day next week and see if it would be possible to meet. I would love that and also Crystal, to meet you and your mother. How very sweet of you to come on here for support for your mother. I know my daughter is having a very hard time of this and I wish she could come along with me too. How old are you Crystal. My daughter is 27. Maybe you and her could talk via email?
Hope to meet you all very soon!!

Cheryl: hang in there. Getting all of the details sorted out in the beginning is a full-time job!! And so is the "decision-making" aspect of getting treatment underway. Let us know when you're coming to town -- just as soon as you know, then we'll pull something together around your availability, if at all possible.
Crystal: awesome that you & your mom will be in our little party.
Other BUCKEYES and anyone close enough to join us, we'd love to meet you and celebrate our unique sisterhood and journey. Stay tuned for more details.

Back from my appt. today. Next appt. next Thursday. It is located on Dublin Grandville Rd. #161.
Not too familiar with Columbus at all, nor real good with the traffic being from a smaller town, but life is all about new experiences, good or bad, right?
Let me know if lunch would work next Thurday. If not, I know I will be heading up that way quite a bit!
It will be nice to meet. Looking forward to it!

Hey ladies, someone told me about this thread. I am in Cincinnati area, we also have a group of ladies here that were meeting for lunch. If anyone is in the southern part of the state let me know, would love to meet others here.
-
Count me in. I just saw this thread and I'd love to participate. Just let me know when and whatever you need.

Cherlilly, I am 35 and my mother is 54 she was diagnosed with stage 4 bc with mets to liver in December 2005 and in April of this we found out it had also spread to her bones. She is doing well and acutally still works (amazing women that she is). I would love to talk with your daughter, sometimes talking to someone who can relate to what you are going through can help. Where do you acually go for your treatments. It sound like you may go to the location where my friend is a supervisor. Do you go to the location at 161 and Sawmill road.
If you are going where I think you are I don't work far from there.
-
Hi Luann, I would love to meet you also. I think it would be good for her to meet people that are experiencing the same. Luann what is your dx. Also mom and I were just in Cincinnati two weeks ago shopping.

Hi sjack, Where are located. I would love to meet all of you along with mom also.

whhhhheeeeeeeoooooooooo..... we are starting to gather some steam and the word is obviously traveling to our buddies!!! YEAH.
So what do the few of you think about Sun., Sept 30th for our first attempted get-together/central OH?? I propose coming to my house, east-side/Reynoldsburg..... how about 3:00 to begin gathering? Then we just see what seems to fit.... have some food around 5:00?? People head out as needed......
Cheryl, that would obviously mean an extra trip for you -- which is certainly understandable if your energy does not permit. I personally can't meet you next Thurs, as I plan to go on a mad dash to WashDC to hear my daughter's concert. Do you come into the big-city weekly? If so, I could plan to meet you the following week.
-
Crystal, where are you and your mom located? I was just emailing with another lady in northern KY that wanted to get together. I had been dx with IDC in 12/98, in 7/06 I was dx with mets to the bone. I am in for the long haul now with this disease.
Faith, maybe once you all get together we could meet up somewhere in the middle between columbus and Cinti???
-
Brilliant idea..... let us get organized and then we'll start creating road trips for more fun!! Just chatted w/ausborn & she told me that you guys are buddies..... so I like you even more, now!
-
Faith and Fifty,
Can you privately email me your address and I will do a mapquest to see how far away you are from me.I would love to come.
my email is: cherlilly12@yahoo.com

cneal318,
Hang on to hope because there are so many wonderful things now in treatments that I have just seen so many turnarounds everyday! Your mother is a fighter and you are right there beside her which is so wonderful that she has you. I can't wait to meet. I will let my daughter know and then get you her email. I know she would really like to talk to someone.
See you soon!

OK. We're generating some responses. Now. Let me know......
does next Sun., Sept 30th work for your calendars? Shall we move forward with this date/plan??? If so, what time??? Menu????
We can obviously just do something simple like order pizza.... or I can have a main menu item, and folks can bring salads, veggies whatever to suppliment.
Let's get specific, now. Can you do Sept 30th? I hope so!!!
-
Hi Faith,
I just talked to you in the chat room. If I'm feeling good that day I'd love to come. As I told you though, I never know day to day so I can't commit completely. Can you PM me with any info?
Thanks!

Has anything be finalized? I haven't heard anything lately. Is it still going to be at faiths house on the 30th? Please let me know the details when they have been decided. I live relatively close to faith and can help out.

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! We're on. This Sunday. Sept 30th. My house/Reynoldsburg/east side. Mid-afternoon. Like around 3:00.... or earlier or later if that works for anyone. So far we have 'confirmations' from Cneal and her mom and ReginaOH, who've agreed to help act as 'room mothers'. So our menu now consists of some grilled chicken, ceaser salad and a fruit salad.
My guest room is still available if anyone wants to come in the night before. If anyone has a bc friend or family member that wants to come, the more-the-merrier!
I've left a PM for everyone who's responded to this thread. Gave you our address and my phone number. Check for your PMs. Or I suppose i could post address here, but i'd prefer not.
I'm really excited to put faces to chat names. Hope to see you this weekend. Take care everyone! Be brave. Be strong.
-
more good news: sjack has confirmed coming & I've asked her to bring some rolls/bread..... Kasey has every intention of making it, if her health co-operates!! So I'm getting so excited!!
-
I am so sad because I have a family obligation this Sunday! I will miss getting to meet everyone. Please let me know when another get together will be! It would be nice to have local support through this. I start chemo in just a few weeks and would love to feel like I had other local "sisters" to talk to and to meet!
Have a wonderful time on Sunday! The weather is going to be fabulous and the food sure sounds yummy that you will be enjoying!
God Bless!

TWINS TWINS TWINS TWINS TWINS!!!!
Hey OH friends..... just had a call from my oldest daughter this afternoon. She was returning from her first ob/gyn appointment. Her first ultra-sound confirmed twins-in-the-making!!!!
Start those prayers, girl friends. She was 'high risk' before this development. I'll have snow white hair before all is said and done.
Sjack & I had a great reunion. Then later Frieda stopped by and we had a great chat.
HEY!! Just learned that Am Cancer Society is holding a "Strides Against BC" on Sunday morning, Oct. 14th @ COSI. Anybody able to come on down?
-
Faith,
I just now read your post. Sorry I missed the reunion, maybe we can try again another time.
Congratulations on the twins! I will be praying for a safe and easy pregnancy for your daughter.
How did the Strides Against BC go at COSI?
Hugs,
Kasey
