Light that lies deep inside of me
Come forth in all thy majesty
Show me thy gaze
Teach me thy ways
That I a better person may be
Darkness that lies deep inside of me
Come forth in all thy mystery
Show me thy gaze
Teach me thy ways
That I a better person may be
Love that lies deep inside of me
Come forth in all thy unity
Let me be thy gaze
Let me teach thy ways
That I a better person may be

He replied that every morning
he used to ask himself w
what he could count on that day;
sometimes it was only the blue sky and the brown earth, and the fact that he was still breathing in and out
But in counting his blessings, so to speak, he reconnected to the miracle that he was,
at least for the present moment, still alive in this beautiful world.
Suffering is not enough
Life is both dreadful and wonderful, he reminds us. How can I smile when I am filled with so much sorrow?
It is natural - you need to smile to your sorrow because you are more than your sorrow.
The Zen master Ling Chi said that the miracle is not to walk on burning charcoal or in the thin air or on the water; the miracle is just to walk on earth
You breathe in. You become aware of the fact you are alive. You are still alive and you are walking on this beautiful planet. . .
The greatest of all miracles
is to be alive.--Thich Nhat Hanh

Today, many will awaken with a fresh sense of inspiration. Why not you?
Today, many will open their eyes to the beauty that surrounds them. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to leave the ghost of yesterday behind and seize the immeasurable power of today. Why not you?
Today, many will break through the barriers of the past by looking at the blessings of the present. Why not you?
Today, for many the burden of self doubt and insecurity will be lifted by the security and confidence of empowerment. Why not you?
Today, many will rise above their believed limitations and make contact with their powerful innate strength. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to live in such a manner that they will be a positive role model for their children. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to free themselves from the personal imprisonment of their bad habits. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to live free of conditions and rules governing their own happiness. Why not you?
Today, many will find abundance in simplicity. Why not you?
Today, many will be confronted by difficult moral choices and they will choose to do what is right instead of what is beneficial. Why not you?
Today, many will decide to no longer sit back with a victim mentality, but to take charge of their lives and make positive changes. Why not you?
Today, many will take the action necessary to make a difference. Why not you?
Today, many will make the commitment to be a better mother, father, son, daughter, student, teacher, worker, boss, brother, sister, & so much more. Why not you?
Today is a new day!
Many will seize this day.
Many will live it to the fullest.
Why not you?

That Woman is a Success . . .
who loves life
and lives it to the fullest;
who has discovered and shared
the strengths and talents
that are uniquely her own;
who puts her best into each task
and leaves each situation
better than she found it;
who seeks and finds
that which is beautiful
in all people and all things;
whose heart is full of love
and warm with compassion;
who has found joy in living
and peace within herself.

Be Free

If you are quick to take offense
then you'll be under
the control of those
who you find offensive~~
If you are easily angered,
then your actions
will be dictated by those who anger you
If you are obsessed
by what other people think,
then you will be imprisoned by their thoughts
If you yearn for easy answers
and quick solutions,
you'll fall prey to people who offer you
nothing but promises
If you find the truth too difficult to bear,
you'll be enslaved to those
who tell you what you want to hear.
When you have the courage
to think for yourself,
the strength to accept what is,
the commitment and discipline
to make a difference,
then you are free
You are truly free to live with purpose, joy and fulfillment.
Let your life be defined,
not by reactions to what others do, say,
or think but rather your own unique vision.
Raise your eyes above the pettiness
and follow the path of the greatness that is within you

"We are all of us from birth to death
guests at a table which we did not spread.
The sun, the earth, love, friends,
our very breath are parts of this banquet..."
Rebecca Harding Davis, 1831-1910
American Author and Journalist

I've got a
roof overhead,
stars if I choose
but I've no need to fly,
I've got no
itch to move
got almost nothing,
but I understand
that I don't
need
anything
that
I
don't
have.
Glen Phillips -
thank you Carrie

I'd rather see a sermon,
than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me,
than merely show the way
The eye's a better pupil,
and more willing than the ear;
Fine counsel is confusing,
but example's always clear.
And the best of all the preachers,
are the men who live their creeds;
For to see the good in action,
is what everybody needs.
I can soon learn how to do it,
if you'll let me see it done;
I can watch your hands in action,
but your tongue too fast may run.
And the lecture you deliver,
may be very wise and true;
but I'd rather get my lesson,
by observing what you do.
For I may misunderstand you,
and the high advice you give;
But there is no misunderstanding,
how you act and how you live.

Community is like
a large mosaic
Each little piece seems so insignificant
One piece is bright red,
another cold blue or dull green,
another warm purple, another sharp yellow,
another shining gold
Some look precious,
others ordinary
Some look valuable, others worthless
Some look gaudy, others delicate
As individuals stones,
we can do little with them
except compare them and judge their beauty and value
When, however, all these little stones
are brought together
in one big mosaic
portraying the face of God
who would ever question the importance
of any one of them?
If one of them,
even the least spectacular one,
is missing, the face is incomplete
Together in the one mosaic,
each little stone is indispensable
and makes a unique contribution to the glory of God
Thats community,
a fellowship of little people
who together make God visible in the world.

The time will come, when,
with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door,
in your own mirror
And each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, "Sit here, Eat. Relax."
You will love again this stranger
who is your Self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart,
to itself,
to this stranger who has loved you
all your life,
whom you ignored for another,
but who knows you by heart.

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, stats, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle.
"An idle mind is the devil's workshop.
4. Enjoy the simple things. When the children are young, that is all you can afford. When they are in college,
that is all you can afford. When you are on retirement, that is all you can afford.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. Laugh so much that you can be tracked
in the store by your distinctive laughter.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is
ourselves. Be alive while you are alive, don't put out a mailbox on the highway of death and just wait
in residence for your mail.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it is family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies,
whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can
improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Go to the mall, the next county, a foreign country, but not to guilt country.

The Other Fellow
by Edgar A Guest
Whose luck is better far than ours?
The other fellow's.
Whose road seems always lined with flowers?
The other fellow's.
Who is the man who seems to get
Most joy in life, with least regret,
Who always seems to win his bet?
The other fellow.
Who fills the place we think we'd like?
The other fellow.
Whom does good fortune always strike?
The other fellow.
Whom do we envy, day by day?
Who has more time than we to play?
Who is it, when we mourn, seems gay?
The other fellow.
Who seems to miss the thorns we find?
The other fellow.
Who seems to leave us all behind?
The other fellow.
Who never seems to feel the woe,
The anguish and the pain we know?
Who gets the best seats at the show?
The other fellow.
And yet, my friend, who envies you?
The other fellow.
Who thinks he gathers only rue?
The other fellow.
Who sighs because he thinks that he
Would infinitely happier he,
If he could be like you or me?
The other fellow.

Don't try to force anything
Let life be a deep let-go.

Then a woman said,
"Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow."
And he answered:
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves
into your being, the more joy you can contain
Is not the cup that hold your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.
Khalil Gibran

Helen Keller words of wisdom
Life is either a daring adventure
or nothing
Although the world is full of suffering,
it is also full of
the overcoming of it
Keep your face to the Sunshine
and you will not see the Shadows
The best and most beautiful things in the world
cannot be seen nor touched
but are felt in the heart
I do not want the peace
that passeth understanding
I want the understanding
which bringeth peace
Everything has its wonders,
even darkness and silence,
and I learn,
whatever state I may be in,
therein to be content
Character cannot be developed
in ease and quiet
Only through experience
of trial and suffering
can the soul be strengthened
vision cleared,
ambition inspired, and success achieved
No pessimist ever discovered
the secret of the stars,
or sailed to an uncharted land,
or opened a new doorway for the human spirit
One can never consent to creep
when one feels the impulse to soar
peace and light
