ok--noon it is--i guess we won't worry about a count---we can let them figure out where to put us....
-
Ok---so just the three of us for tomorrow at noon for lunch?
Sylvia
-
Yup - so far.
I asked Jeanne if she could make it but it was buried in a post. I'll email her. Oh, and Melia if she's not flying up to the Bay Area to play Grandma.
I'll be there!

You heard, I suspect, that a respectable number did show up at BJ's for lunch. Including new (well, almost new) grandma, Julie, who seldom gets to join us these days as she has family commitments on Sundays. Sylvia, Brenda S. and I rounded out our group. It's such a different experience when one person can talk and the other listen over the din of rattling plates, snatches of overheard conversation from the other end of the table, much laughter and the general goings-on as when we have a crowd. I prefer, uhm, prefer... I like them both ways! When 10 or12 of us get together, there is a different 'energy' shared among women with similar life experiences. And BC seems to be where our similarities diverge and where we explore the differences in our lives that seem to be quite varied and endlessly fascinating.
I didn't mean to wax philosophical, it's just I LOVE YOU GUYZ, and any and all San Diegans (or environs) are welcome to share in this.
'til next month,
xxxoooxxxooo
Lisa (who is exceedingly gratified that her buds have serious patience with her 'dain-bramage')

It is different as Lisa said--we all did talk but not at the same time and we all listened when one talked!!!
Wax away Lisa ---you have much to share!!

I just had a seizure.
Is this the beginning of the end? So much for Italy.

I am dog-sitting my daughter's puppy while she is at a business meeting. Coincidentally I was on the phone with her when the dogs knocked my bedside table and my DietCoke went flying. Hung up way fast. I started to clean up, it was a full drink. Helper-dogs participated. I was going from the kitchen into my bdrm when I realized I was having a seizure, primarily facial but obviously spreading. I woke up on the floor, disoriented - unconscious for over 30 min, as far as I can tell.
Recalled I was talking to my daughter. Called her back. Stumbled atrociously over my words. Eventually, she said it sounded like I had had a seizure, and it all came slowly back to me, realized that's what had happened. I don't have any seizure meds in the house, I have been off them for months. Maybe I'll call a triage nurse. %#$&!
I haven't had a single seizure except when Dr P was futzing around inside my brain. Considering I was on the surgical table I don't/didn't think that counted. If I tell a doctor I won't be allowed to drive for SIX months. I feel so discombobulated and I'm afraid I'll do it again.
I had thought I was stable, maybe even improving.

Lisa, that sucks. If there's anything I can do to help, please email me. Hopefully it's just a one time, random thing.
Love and hugs,
Brenda S.
-
Lisa--i'm so sorry to hear this---hope you got to your DR today and had a check...hugs,Sylvia
-
Lisa - any news? How are you now?
-
I am feeling better, but bruised in body and fragile in brain. I am in the process of adjusting medications so I welcome the stability that should come. I am waiting for this afternoon to schedule an MRI that should tell me more. One step forward...
Thank you all for your good thoughts.
Lisa
-
Lisa, let me know if you need someone to drive you somewhere. Between my achy muscles and your fragile brain, we might be able to work something out.
Brenda S.
-
Brenda ~ thanks for your generous offer, but I have Esperanza to run errands for me so I try to save up for the days she is here.
Are your muscles aching from chemo? Or is it neulasta pain? You don't plan on going back to the classroom anytime soon, do you? Why don't we set a date for the April 'meeting' - that way we all have that to look forward to... What do you think about Phil's, like we spoke of last time? I'll have to check the menu - I think there are a few vegetarian options!
Or is it time for a North County excursion?
Lisa
-
Phil's sounds really good, but North County is fine as well. I'm very flexible.
I just got diagnosed with lymphedema. The good news is that it's "mild" and that a lot can be done, according to the PT. So I have 10 appointments lined up already.
No, I am not superwoman. I go back to work in September, God willing, and as long as I'm healthy enough to work. The kids need me to be 100% healthy, and they deserve nothing less.
Brenda S.
-
I don't know what Phil's is, but I really want to see you guys. Right now I'm in Florida yet again (Starfish still reading? I'm just a little north).
So name a date & a place - I have no other travel plans for April once I get home (Tuesday)
-
Is Phil's THE Phil's (BBQ near the Sports Arena?). YUM. Far away, but delicious. I'm going out of town this weekend and will then be in town for the rest of the month. How's the weekend of April 24th? Looking forward to catching up with all.
Lisa - didn't know you were a vegetarian. I checked their menu (on line) and they have two salads (caesar & mixed green) and lots of side dishes that don't have meat, chicken or pork - including fried onion rings. And they also offer a veggie burger.
North County is also fine with me.
-
Adnerb - I, too, have (had) lymphedema. Wore the sleeve and gauntlet, got some treatments and it's since resolved. Haven't had a flare up for a couple of years!! I think exercise helps - light weights, etc... seems to help keep the blood flowing. I do wear the sleeve and gauntlet when I fly or go up to the mountains. Good luck. I hope it was caught early and treatment will be short.

Keep the updates on lunch coming. I will be there if I can!! I miss all of you and would love the chance to catch up with everyone.

Yes - the Phil's we've been talking about is THE Phil's of great BBQ renown. I am not a vegetarian, red meat just doesn't agree with me. I make exception for the Brougham sammich (NC-style BBQ) from Phil's. In true Southern tradition, all of the items on the menu are "cooked 'til they're kill't." They're known for their ONION RINGS (they're BIG ones!) and like you mentioned, there are corn on the cob and cole slaw and all the trimmings.
I have my sister visiting me on the 24-25th and it's become so rare that I don't want to miss a moment. Howzabout the 16-17th? If we go to Phil's there will be a line - but I don't mind, and I have a policy that I don't do lines. Exceptions must be made. And I have never stood there for long. Or too long.
Other nominees besides Phil's can be entertained, of course.
Lisa
-
If that works for all, go for it. Unbelievably (really - 'cause I usually only eat at Phil's once or twice a year) I've been invited to a surprise birthday party on April 17th - at Phil's. Don't think I could do two Phil's in one weekend.
Lisa, enjoy your visit with your sister. Hope it's a very special time.
-
Alright - Phil's has been dicussed and tabled for now. How about the 16th around North County somewhere? Poway? Could you suggest a site, Sylvia? Can you fit us in between showings, Brenda (BMD)? We'd love to have you back, Lisa#3, make it a priority! Can you make the date, Susan? Melia, how's it looking for mid-month? Brahna - do you know of some place special?
Lisa
-
I don't think that I can do Friday the 16th (working) - or Sat the 17th (dog training, family party and retirement party all in one day) but I can do Sunday the 18th.
What about going back to Yenchim Garden (Chinese) in Penasquitos?
Brahna
-
Brahna ~ that sounds like a terrific idea. I missed that gathering! Please forgive my ineptitude when calendaring, perhaps somebody who has all their wits about them should schedule this.

I'm good for the 18th, what say y'all?
Fair warning: I am worse in the speech dept. despite resuming steroids. But I can smile and nod my head with the best of 'em. My Brain MRI at the end of the month will probably show progression and leave me no choice but to do WBR. Phooey.
Lisa
-
Hi everyone, we are baaaack...at least for a little while and the 18th works for me too..
-
-
18th is good for me too.
what's wbr?
-
The term stands for Whole Brain Radiation. I am sorry, I keep forgetting that the average cancer survivor never would come in contact with that acronym. It is designed to, ideally, sterilize the tumor bed. Often, however, healthy cells get in the line of fire, resulting in short term memory loss and other cognitive defects. Therefore it is often a measure of last resort. The fact the it oft times results in permanent hair loss makes it further unappealing.
Lisa
-
Hi gals--18th is good for me but my complication is early am Lacrosse in Encinitas and then back home and out again for lunch --makes for a very short Sunday for relaxation!!!
If you want to stay a little more north--Ki's is my pick--if you get down below the 5/805 split it is just taking so much of my day driving down and back and prob won't be able to swing that.
S
-
Sylvia - I am amenable to Ki's. What's parking like there on Sundays around noon? I forgot the last time I was there - or more likely, I didn't pay a bit of attention cause I was getting a ride from my buddy, Liz.
What say you all?
Lisa
-
Liz ~ your photography looks straight out of a professional, full-color, glossy travel & cruise brochure. Looks like a good time, too!
Lisa
-
Yay. I am in town on the 18th. Either Ki's or the place in PQ works for me.
LisaSDCA - boo hiss on the wbr. I'll keep fingers, toes and whatever else I can find - crossed for you. Look forward to your smile and head nod! Need any new books?
Jeanne
