Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day!I went into to work early yesterday to cover an 8 hour shift, part of a cascade of coverage of an overnight call out. It was interesting, to say the least. Lots and lots of phone calls from family members, which I expected. I was surprised how many families were pretty laid back about the whole thing once they realized they can call and get updates and even talk to their loved one on the phone. I never realized so many people thought that being closed to visitation meant no contact at all, even by phone. And when families found out they could still drop off items (cleaned clothes, special food, toiletries, gifts) they were universally surprised.

Maine now has 32 confirmed or presumptive cases. None in my county yet, but that is just a matter of time now. Lots of restaurants shifting to curbside take out rather than eating in, a few businesses that can't totally close are providing meals to workers (utilizing the curbside take out or delivery option) to help support restaurants. Hotel/Motel workers are getting hit hard with so many travel plans being cancelled. Some full time housekeepers are only getting 2 days a week as the manager try to rotate the available work through as many staff as possible. And there are some really innovated things popping up, too. A local Alpaca farm is now doing online tours for people to watch. Another person is posting coloring pages themed to go with snow day at home learning packets with versions for very young children as well as school age and adults. Interesting times.

Goldie--no, not 3 in my nursing home, 3 in the STATE, and all down in the southern part of the state near the New Hampshire border. Pollen does make the fresh air thing a bit of a challenge, doesn't it? Air purifiers are helpful, and so is using a humidifier. Sadie and the neighbor pup have not been officially introduced yet, the neighbors and I haven't actually really met yet, for that matter. Now is probably not the time to go knock on the door and say "Hi, I'm your neighbor!"Glad the truck is getting some positive attention.

Celia--ooh, that sounds like a great morning drink!

Jazzy--Hooray for getting the REAL ID taken care of! The phones weren't too bad yesterday, but we had our usual people answering the phone, so that helped a lot. The local pub that has the biggest St. Patrick Day celebration was closed yesterday. So sad to see that, but they are planning a St. Patrick Day 2.0when the pandemic restrictions are over. Something to look forward to!

Chi--I'm praying for Gordy's job to stay safe. Does your DH use any telehealth technology? In my nursing home we have a telemed unit that has been available but never really usedthat is going to be used almost exclusively so the docs that go from building to building won't be actually coming into the building at all. The nurse practitioners are being limited to going into only 2 buildings for the duration. Do you know about the Windows trick to enlarge type on the computer screen? Hold down the control key and tap the "+" key. Each tap will increase the size of the type for the whole page one step. Handy if your glasses aren't right at hand and your just doing a quick check of something.Holding down the control key and tapping "-" will decrease the type one step at a time. I'm not sure what I would do about the ENT appointment. That doctor's experience is not a good advertisement for the healthy lifestyle preventing disease and death.Just goes to show how little we truly know about how cancer works.

Janky--I've heard a lot about stores opening with "elder only" shopping times. I think that's a great idea. I am taking care of myself, said "no" to working a 12 hour shift, kept the work time to a doable 8 hours. Welcome home!

Librarian--Hugs and prayers as you quarantine with DH! I bet the scan appointment will be a nice break. Maybe you can drive yourself, and then extend the time by taking a drive? You don't have to get out of the car, just drive around and get a change of scenery.

Genny--glad to hear you are getting out of work. Rest up and see you soon!

    Jazzy--love the song!

Celia--I bet that has upset a few people!

Genny--wow, lots of changes for you. My nursing home closed the dining room and the hair dresser won't be back in for at least 2 weeks, as of Saturday. We're doing the full screening of everyone entering the building, even delivery people. The Fed Ex guy has the form memorized, he's doing so many of them. We are only allowing things to be brought in the door, but not carried through the building by delivery people, we're doing that part ourselves. Hoping to keep it out, but realizing it's probably not totally possible. Keep the humidifier on--moisture is bad for the viruses. I use a small, $10 humidifier in the bedroom at night to keep my mouth and nose from drying out.

    Morning, Illi--hugs and prayers.

Kind O'Gratin here!Happy day after St. Patrick's Day!

OK, I've got to get to work, finish ketchuping tomorrow!

    Mornin ladies, Cheerful McWiggins here.

HOLY CHIT these pages are loaded maybe cuz we're all stuck in much more. I have my nites and days still mixed up, I can't get them back yet.

Illi I'm sorry now u have nausea , jeez how long will this last.

Scan ere done today right??? OK waiting for the news.

Lori how is ur son doing, I'm still praying. Oh my sisters gra ndkids are all in college across the world, but not anymore they're all home, well except for the 2 that are seals, they don't know if they'll get their leave in April or not. They are stationed in different areas tho.

As we have all entered the Twilight Zone without Rod Serling we're facing the same degree of in house living. Churches, schools, stores, businesses hospitals, restaurants etc. Never saw this before. They still had the shower but my SIL couldn't go cuz she lives in assisted living and no one goes in or comes out., boy was everyone cheering that one. So my niece could blame it on the home and didn't have to tell her she wanted nothing to do with her for the shower.

Kim so thankful for all of ur info u pass on to us. Ur surrounded by everything. Please take care of ur self.

Sandy that coffee oh so yummy, I could drink that everyday. Certain coffees taste so good to me now. I like the caramel starbucks for my Kuirig, I don't have to add anything just let it drip.

Hey Teka always look forward when u poop in.

Janky some of u have to slow down ur trips for a while, when u r used to that it's not easy.

Mary that picture is precious, love radiates from that picture. I love those ages. How are u doing right now. <<<HUGS>>>

I never knew tinnitus can be dangerous, my mom had it for yrs. my sister then me. All of us slept with either a radio or a TV on. My TV is on 24/7, only if I go out does it go off. Let us know how that whole thing goes.

This whole everything is closed and no school has my days so screwed up honestly I don't know what day it is til I look at the TV time and date. And my kids don't want me to close to Joey cuz he's been around a lot of people. and I always want to cuddle with him. Everyone walks around with Lysol and keeps a distance. It actually makes me more nervous , I feel like Oh my gosh, oh my golly going down the drain with Molly. I know that was stupid it just came out.

Well some of the posts lifted us up this morning. So that's good

Hope everyone has a good day and just stay in.

    LUBS U ALL

Janky, we do manage being together. My DH won't do anything with out me, he won't even go to the doctors alone, we always go grocery shopping together. But during the day, he is usually out in the office, which is in another building and I stay in the house. I can do the beer run!

Sandy, I hope Bob made it home early enough to have your Irish coffee.

Jazzy, your quiche looks super yummy. I see cheese and tomato on top, what's inside?

NM, I have both, air purifier and a humidifier. You have not met your neighbors? Are they new as well, not just a new puppy? Glad to know it's not 3 cases in your nursing home.

Cami, my son is doing ok, he has been approved to stay another week, so there until the 27th. I told him that was wise, as jobs right now are going to be hard to find. We sleep with the tv on also.

We shall head out to town on Friday for our usual groceries, Wal Mart is not open 24/7 now, opens at 6, so we will be there at 6. Just really need the usual weekly things.

Good Morning! Bone scan went fine yesterday. The tech said he did not see anything that would make him want to take more detailed pictures. I take that as a positive! The hospital was as busy as normal, but there was a security person stopping people from getting on the elevators. People had to stop at a desk and be “looked at" before they could go any farther. I wore a mask and gloves.

Had the kids over for corned beef and cabbage last night. DH said we shouldn’t due to the virus, but I am not going to stop seeing my family. I have hand sanitizer, antibiotic soap and we did not hug. I chatted with some friends via the phone, but am missing my lunches and social outings.

Really worry about people loosing their jobs. Why bail out the airline industry and not movie theaters? There are so many people with two or three part time jobs that will now have nothing. Just boggles my brain.

    Stay safe!

I'm only on page 1994 (even though I don't post often I read), but I don't have the energy to go back and read it all.

I'm on extended spring break (2 weeks early). As of now, we are supposed to go back on April 6th, but I'm guessing that will change.

Its great for me to have the extra time as my DH had quintuple bypass surgery on the 11th. He came home on Monday, day 5 post of, after a week in the hospital. He was admitted 2 days before surgery due to an unstable blood clot on the "widow maker" and 95% blockage on all the arteries. (Following caridac stress test and cardiac cath). He had been feeling lousy for 4 days and even spending Friday the 6th in the ER to be sent home saying everything was coming back normal but Craig's PCP insisted that the ER doctor schedule a stress test and cardiac appointment on Monday the 9th. The ER doc was like a doogie houser and would not admit Craig to the hospital even though PCP wanted him admitted. Over the week-end Craig was feeling worse and worse. We really should have gone to the ER Sunday night but DH wanted to wait as he had the cardiac stress test scheduled and he didn't want to waste his time in the ER to only be sent home again. Cardiologist immediately admitted to the hospital and started on IV Heparin trip. The surgeon the cardiologist wanted to use at a different hospital, so on the day before surgery they transferred him by ambulance to the other hospital on Tuesday afternoon. DH had one of the best if not the best cardio-thorasic surgeon in the area do the surgery. Doctors are really pleased with DH's progress, but he'll be off work for at least 4 - 6 weeks. Then he will start cardiac rehab. Not sure how long he will be off work, but his both is great. He does not want DH to check work emails at all!!!

The unexpected school closure is giving me 3 weeks to be with DH. I was off all last week and had planned to take this week off. My oldest daughter was going to come in next week but with all the Covid-19 that has been cancelled. For now, we are happy to be hunkered down at home. He is allowed to go for walks outside with me. I'll also go to the grocery store as needed, but not making any extra trip. Lots of stuff I can do in the house. We eat very healthy so the foods we can't stock up on is fresh fruit and veggies. A friend is cooking dinner for us. I do need to get some meat, fish and poultry to stock the freezer.

    Everyone stay safe. Karen

Karen- I am sorry to hear about your DH but glad he is through surgery and on the mend. It's a blessing in some ways you have been given space to be with him right now with school closed. Continue to take care of yourselves.

Karen, prayers & healing thoughts for your DH to recover from his "quintuple cabbage," as my cardiologist hubby Bob calls it. Hope they can figure a safe (hygienic) way for him to start cardiac rehab when he's finally ready.

Lori, Bob even had seconds on the Irish coffee (seconds on the booze & coffee, not the whipped cream).

Cami, glad you're back. We were really getting worried.

Jewel made its delivery today--no TP (duh), Friskies wet cat food, non-clumping litter (the kitties will have to eat the hippie foo-foo organic stuff and put up with a different texture underfoot). But they brought 3 quart bottles of "the Precious:" CLOROX! Tried to order from Walmart.com--no availability of anything for either pickup or delivery. We're down to 13 eggs--could've brained Bob the other day for asking for 3 at one time (and our housekeeper for obliging). Ordered out from Whole Foods--all they had left on their site were "cage-free" white (out of the pasture-raised brown I usually buy). Hope they still have THAT. Nothing remotely resembling TP--we're down to 20 rolls, which seems like a lot for two people, but nobody seems to have any for sale, even at ltd. quantity; so I am rationing: 2 squares for pee, 4 for poop. (Hope Bob complies).

Good thing I canceled Heidi's vet appt. for today: the vet's office has announced that it will be closing its waiting room and not allowing owners to accompany their pets into the exam rooms--owners must phone from outside and wait for the tech to come out to the cars or sidewalk and take the pet carrier inside and then bring it back out. (My cats would go ballistic over that). Payment must be electronic too.

I have a cremant de Bougogne (Henri Montand Blanc de Blancs) chilling, to accompany shrimp stir-fry over cauli-rice. (Probably vac-seal & freeze Bob's portion). Normally, I detest having to peel & devein shrimp (these are the big'uns), but suddenly I have the time. Who knew?

I know we're supposed to avoid politics, but this isn't mentioning any candidates, parties, or even ideologies:

Why, indeed, bail out the airlines? They deserve to lose every penny. They've been screwing us over with increasingly rotten service, insane baggage & change fees that had no raison d'etre save to rack up more profits (and make the stockholders happy), skimpier seats crowded ever closer, bad on-time records, etc. Until now, they've been raking in record profits. What goes around comes around...

If Gordy manages to get paid working from home--until he's inevitably gonna be furloughed once the company suspends operations--a "payroll tax deduction holiday" would help him. But not anyone who gets a paycheck whose employer doesn't withhold taxes, nor "gig economy" workers.

Chi- I hope the focus on things will be to help the people this time, especially after 2008. Here in NM, it took us a full decade to recover from the last recession. We have so many hourly workers here that are loosing any chance of income until 4/10. Today the governor mandated to close the malls, restaurants (except for pick up and delivery), salons, spas, specialty stores, etc. They don't feel people are doing enough to socially distance themselves. I know soon we will be in lock down/shelter in place......

Outside of Southwest Airlines for the most part, I am not a fan of flying or the airline industry. Many of them will go out of business (don't forget the era of Pan Am, Eastern, TWA, Braniff, etc.) They have gone through decades of poor management and made it worse for any of us that like to travel.

I don't have the answers and know everyone is doing their best to figure it out. No road map for this one.

In the midst of this, I got an offer for some contract work today and negotiating. Go figure......

The Colorado governor has just banned any gatherings larger than 10 people. Schools are closed through April 17th (for now) - I'm guessing after spring break there will be some sort of distance learning, but I'm not sure how that will work for School Psychologists. Awaiting emails from my supervisor and the superintendent tomorrow. I signed up to help with crisis calls over the next couple weeks. I figure I can take calls and also take care of DH. He is feeling pretty good, but fatigues easily. He just needs to remind himself that it is normal post such major surgery and be patient. Him being in such excellent shape prior to the surgery is surely helping with his recovery. We sent pictures of his incisions to our niece who is an ER nurse at the VA hospital in Portland and she couldn't believe who great they looked.

One of my bf's is an anesthesiologist and she texted me a picture yesterday that looks like she is wearing a hazmat suit.

5 - 9 inches of snow is in the forecast for tomorrow. The blizzard of 2003 was this same week and the city was closed down on DD#2 5th birthday. Tomorrow she turns 22! Actually in Israel she is already 22 - she sent us a picture of her this afternoon with a tiara and birthday cookie with 22 (2 - #2 candles) on it. I told her to treat herself to mani/pedi or dinner for her birthday, but that will have to wait till this Covid-19 is over. Israel instituted strict measure before the US did. They are pretty much on lockdown in their home, but allowed to go to the grocery store or doctor or pharmacy. they are also policing people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

Canada/USA has closed their borders. But DD#1 said Canadians can travel back home. They were supposed to come for passover, but I think they need to stay home in Toronto. Airplanes are such petrie dishes. Don't need them getting sick or arriving and having to be quarantined because some fool on the plane was sick!!!

    Congrats on the gig, Jazzy!

My voice teacher's wife dodged a bullet today--she is an event manager for AmEx, and was afraid she'd be let go. Instead, she got a 5% pay cut. Hope that Gordy does no worse.

Bob admitted tonight he DID visit a nursing home. He has two patients there: a family practitioner (lowest-paid of any specialty) who neglected his teeth till they got abscessed and gave him endocarditis--which turned to sepsis, making him bedridden, causing bedsores requiring amputation; the other patient being said doc's ex-wife. He says he can't just abandon them. The nursing home is testing staff--but not Bob, because he is only a "visiting physician." No mask or gown, either. No PPE at his hospitals--only ER and infectious-disease ICU staff can get them. No income coming in from office patients--because the office is shut down. And we're watching helplessly as our once-robust nest egg is melting.

So I have to assume it's likely he's been exposed at some point (when and to whom we don't know). Therefore, so have I. We're asymptomatic but I'm under house arrest, just getting deliveries. Nowhere to wear any of those cute clothes I worked so hard to get into. I feel like we're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

A Willowbrook (DuPage County) nursing home reports 46 cases; and up in Evanston, there are (so far) 3 community-acquired cases (sent home by Evanston Hosp. to recuperate) and 2 in the skilled-care bldg. of a far NW side senior community. The independent living bldg. (unlike Judy's retirement community) is not on lockdown!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Things are proceeding apace here in Maine. Restaurants now must close unless they can use 10 or fewer employees at a time to provide delivery or take out, no dining in.My credit union is keeping the lobby open, but limiting the number of people inside at a time and encouraging telephone, online, and drive-through use instead. The 2 local hospitals have set up a drive through COVID-19 testing site. People need a doctor's referral to get tested, and call and register before showing up.Businesses being closed down are trying to find ways to keep paying workers at least a portion of their usual wages, but small businesses are losing all income and aren't sure how they will survive. It's getting scary. People are starting to over-react, too. And many people are finding ways to help --deliveringgroceries to neighbors, schools making up meals and creating places where they can be picked up so the food doesn't go to waste and kids dependent on school meals still get them.

There was an incident at work yesterday, a delivery man came to the back door (where he usually comes) read the sign that said he had to go to the front door to be screened before we would accept the delivery. He got upset and refused to be screened, stated he would just toss the delivery onto the parking lot and "FU".Our administrator (1) called the police to report the danger to our residents of a person refusing to be screened, (2) called the company and told them any delivery left without the driver being screened would be refused and the company would need to reimburse us for the cost of the suppliesAND be prohibited from coming on the property again if they continued to endanger our residents by refusing screening, AND be reported to other nursing homes, hospitals, etc so they would be aware of the risk of allowing that company on the property, (3) threatened to call the Maine CDC to report the refusal to be screened/follow guidance to prevent disease spread. That driver got a phone call from his company, drove away, and 30 minutes later a different driver brought the truck back, went around front and got screened, and the delivery went as planned. Then the administrator got a call that the first delivery guy no longer works for that company, and that all employees of the company have been instructed all along to comply with any screening being done at any delivery site, for their own protection as well as the protection of others.

Sadie thought the whole thing was over the top. Then she reminded me that dogs don't catch COVID-19, and why am I not rubbing her belly--I can talk and rub at the same time!

    Morning, Janky!

Jazzy--good point that we have already been through times that turned everything upside down and having coping mechanisms.Good to know about tax filing, too.

Celia--Thanksfor pointing out the info for those expecting a refund--I fall into that category. Time to do my taxes this weekend!

Chi--It's funny how many people I have talked to don't realize that they can go outside their house and walk around, and even walk in the streets but should avoid congregating.

    Jazzy--nice looking quiche!

Chi--Hmm, sounds like a troublesome interaction with the ENT office nurse.Interesting info about Irish coffee, too!

Cammy Cat--glad to see you here, was beginning to worry about you! I am taking care of myself, for Sadie's sake if not for my own. Actually, not much in my life has changed, apparently I don't go out a lot.I do expect the next Wednesday, Women and Wine get together will be cancelled when it gets closer. This is getting to be a scary time, isn't it? Something to tell stories about in the future. "I survive the COVID-19 pandemic" will be a popular saying on mugs and T-shirts in a year or so.

    Morning, Teka!Good advice!

Goldie--The new neighbors finished their house next door and moved in last fall. Looks like an older couple. Not many opportunities to meet the neighbors around here unless one's doggo gets loose and goes wandering. The puppy has been around for just a week or so.

Librarian--You are right, we can't stop seeing EVERYONE. Family is important. Being careful will mitigate most of the risk. Having been in the hospital, you were probably more of a danger to the family than the family to you! I agree about the bailing out of workers. Start with the small businesses without deep pockets and resources, let the bigger ones manage for themselves for a change.

Karen--oh my goodness, your DH had quite the time! Glad he's better and back home and making good progress.

Jazzy--rationing toilet paper? What has the world come to?;)The vet requiring electronic payment, that's one I hadn't thought of but I bet will become very common very soon. Not sure I'd like to let Sadie go into the vet with a tech like that, but if she needed to be seen, I guess I could do it. She probably wouldn't mind either way! Good luck with the job opp!

Karen--here's praying that the family stays safe and healthy.

Chi--Wow, I can't imagine Bob going into a nursing home and not being required to wear a mask! We're making every visitor and any staff member who works in another facility wear a mask.

On a happier note, First Day of Spring--at almost midnite tonite!! YEAH!

JCS, good news from the tech and his comment! My brother made corn beef and cabbage for me while I was in Michigan.

Karen, I already knew about your DH and addressed that with you. Nice you will be home to take care of him and glad he is continuing to heal. Glad your DD will not be traveling via the air right now. And happy birthday to your baby girl.

Sandy, good for Bob skipping the whip cream on that second cup! My neighbor has chickens and they are laying a dozen a day right now. I picked up a gallon of bleach at the Dollar store, but only because I thought I was low, I wasn't! I sure hope neither of you get this virus.

Jazzy, good luck with that new contract.

NM hmmmmmm, perhaps that delivery person was tired of getting screened every place he made a delivery? But still no reason to act that way. Sadie is so understanding!

I finally called Sue yesterday. She is doing ok but is falling alot, mostly bruised nothing broken. She has a new grand baby from her son and his wife/girlfriend. She is 7 mo and her name is Sophia. Her other grand daughter Maddie, who is almost 11 is into gymnastics and Sue said shes is as good as Simone Biles! Sue may be traveling to Phoenix next month and if so, I will try to make it down there to visit her.

I most likely won't be on tomorrow morning, heading out early to hit the stores right when they open. Walmart has moved their hours from 6 to 7, but another store opens and 6 and Home Depot too, so we will hit those first.

Hi friends- happy vernal equinox, otherwise known as spring. We have rain here now and good for the spring blooms!

So the offer for contract work is being discussed right now, not yet accepted. Remember I had something I was going to do about six weeks ago here that that fell apart? Same people for this new one, but came through an IT group out of FL. I told them I had been working on a gig with them directly and was told they could not hire me due to only being able to hire out of certain locations. So I asked them to verify this, and they said they got no indication that was an issue. Weird, maybe it changed. I guess they want to just "hire me" now, and I have not even talked to anyone about what they need my help with? Different role but who knows what they are really wanting. So before I say yes, I need more info; the prime on it is working on that today. I just need more info and asked for more money too as I will be subtracting (probably better given the challenges that could be coming with getting paid during a pandemic.....)

And I have been also been recruited by a company in the area I would really LIKE to work for but is moving a bit slower. They reached out yesterday and have some follow up discussions. By having an offer on the table, I can use it to push the conversation to see how serious they are. This is full time job and and in tech. It all got surprisingly busy yesterday. But I like it!

Chi- I think it is good Bob can still go in to nursing homes to help. Most nursing homes and other group situations are limiting visitors, medical professionals and other care giver staff. I too feel like we are rearranging the chairs on the Titanic too most days.....

Karen- you are finding your way through this and glad you can help your husband to know it will take time to feel better. I remember a doctor friend who also helped me through my bc told me that it would take me a good year to really feel better after my cancer treatment. She was so right about that, I had a lot of fatigue after all that so it helped me to hear that so I did not put too much pressure on myself. As you know, some times we just feel a small healing shift as things improve with time. I wish him a continued strong recovery.....

I wish your DD a safe birthday too. My 60th is a week from today and all my plans are postponed for now. I was able to get an early lunch in with a friend a few weeks ago and to the concert with Harry Connick Junior too (he just cancelled the rest of his tour). So that will be it for awhile. I don't really eat sugar so I will skip on any cake, but think there will be some wine flowing on that day.....

Cami- everyone okay in your household?

NM- wow about that driver, what jerk. Well, he paid for that too with a job loss. I personally worry about the social unrest that may be coming with all this. Being out here in the wild west, people like their guns and heard they are flying out of the stores here. I watch the young folks partying on the beaches in FL with spring break, who don't get it either. The recent stats I am seeing actually have some of the infections more in the 18-50 range, and as we know, this virus is unpredictable. I hope your residents are doing okay and you stay well too!

Goldie- we are getting some nice rain out here today, you too? Started in the afternoon and good for the spring blooms. I was out with my hand saw hacking down a chaste tree into a smaller bush and pollen galore. Ah choo. Glad you got some corned beef and cabbage in.

JCS- congrats on the good bone scan. There is some good news for the thread this week!

Ill, Janky, Celia C, Yoga, Mistyeyes, and anyone else lurking here, wishing you blessings on this first day of Spring.

NM - Ihave a friend that is a speech language pathologist. She frequents a number of patients in nursing homes and now cannot see them due to the restrictions. She is very worried about her patients.

Karen - Hope your husband continues a safe and good recovery. It does take time to fully bounce back from that surgery.

Sandy - I went to the grocery this morning. No milk, eggs, yogurt. Limited breads and meat. Of course, no TP! I did order more of my CBD oil yesterday as I would hate to run out of that. My DH and I call the stock market ‘legalized gambling’ and have very little money in it. Instead we invest in things that hold their value, i.. vintage guitars, cars and sometimes jewelry. Probably not smart if no one is around to buy them. LOL!

Jazzy - Interesting about the job offers. Sounds like you have a plan for getting what you want. My father was a pilot for Braniff until they went busted. My BIL was a pilot for Texas International, then Continental. My nephew is now an international pilot for United. I love to fly, but agree that the airlines should just have to sort it out. I worry more about the people that work at the airport restaurants and kiosks. They are hourly wage and will be laid off.

My younger son accepted a job at the outdoor store REI. The store is being built and will not open until May 1. He just got an email they are closed until further notice. Good thing he had not yet told the bike store where he currently works that he was leaving. Older son just took a new job this week and is getting no orientation. It is in IT so not much contact with others. Always exciting around here!

    Stay safe!

Since there seem to be a number of fellow music lovers on this topic, go to http://liveformusic.com for an article concert films/documentaries to stream while you are "sheltering".

Kim, the exact opposite is the norm here for deliveries: they must be "no-contact" (ring/knock/text, drop & go). There's been a new case in a seniors' bldg. at the far SE end of Edgewater (abt. 1.5 mi. from us). The patient had limited contact with the outside world to begin with. Our housekeeper brought Bob a surgical mask from the stash the V.A. hospital gives dialysis patients and their visitors. He's at the union HMO today (doing only telemedicine house calls using their HIPAA-compliant platform), so will be home fairly early for dinner.

We didn't do any DIY investing--we have three brokers: two for Bob's medical corp's retirement plan and one to manage the portfolio his dad left us a decade ago. We are somewhat diversified, with a six-figure cash reserve and two six-figure IRAs to boot. To keep things in perspective, we're still in a bit better shape totally compared to where the market was last this low, but it's still damned scary to realize we've lost a quarter of the nest egg we had only a month ago. I have lots of guitars, but their value doesn't really appreciate because they're not exactly "vintage." And as for jewelry, I've learned that most contemporary jewelry has no intrinsic value these days other than their gemstones & precious metals (gold or platinum, not sterling) content. Glad we have only good silverplate flatware, as sterling isn't holding its value.

Thursday Thursday and first day of spring with the sun shining brightly! I am getting used to my 'quarantine', just wish my computer worked a wee bit less cantankerously! Our kids who live near have gotten groceries for us, and so far we have no need to go anywhere, once I rescheduled appointments The importance of solid, fact based reporting came up here in our small town, when the local paper published that a local resident was confirmed COVID-19, today it turns out that it is unconfirmed and may be a flu or?? Sadly, be careful what you read! I cannot believe the people partying on spring break, they just don't seem to get it or the seriousness of this virus - they may not contract it but may pass it on to others who will contract it, again, very sad.

Jazzy - quiche looks scrumtious! and yayy for solid job opportunities!

teka - nice to see you popping in, I love celia's poster too!

cami - how are you all?

goldie - I hope you are hanging in too? It is great that we have opportunities to shop early and with less crowds for the time being at least, though I still have 8 days of self isolation and even after that will be careful (but not totally isolated!)

genny, JCS - so far DH and I are managing, he goes out for an hour walk and that gives me a wee bit of room.

Take care everyone, enjoy the moment. Cheers

Bob's elderly respiratory-distress patients all tested positive for Influenza-A, B, or both. None were his office patients, so none got flu shots.

Shocked reading on other threads here that some members in other states are still going out to eat or shopping for non-essentials. Actually, shocked that any of those businesses are still open.

A 20-ish patient of the family doc in the convalescent center (rehab wing) I mentioned was urged by the doc's locum tenens (temp replacement) to get tested because one of her coworkers tested positive, and stay home till she could get results. The answering service called Bob to follow up. She is not answering her phone, and may be recklessly out spreading the virus if she's not simply incommunicado.

Jazzy - I asked DD how her birthday was - and she said as good as can be in a lockdown. She got to celebrate with her roommates. I told her she can celebrate big when this is all over, please G-d soon. Israel has stricter rules than the states - they closed all their borders, no groups larger than 5, must maintain 2 meter distance, can go to the grocery store, to the pharmacy, doctor etc. All her university classes are online

Big snow storm in Denver today - wet heavy cement snow - not sure of the total, but it took me 3 sessions of shoveling as the snow is so wet and heavy - I had to snow by 3". The last shovel was around 5 or so, and not that much more snow just a layer. Sure hope the snow is done. By Monday it is supposed to be in the 50s or 60s

Mary, here's a link that explains what I have--and that it shouldn't even be called "tinnitus" (which is produced by the inner ear) whereas mine comes most likely from an AVM, carotid stenosis or even a tumor:

Pulsatile tinnitus is DIFFERENT and often dangerous

It fries me that I have something that might cause a stroke or worse--but doctors gave me the brush-off for so long that now I can't even be treated because it's not COVID-related. Please forgive my ranting--I'm headed upstairs and hoping I can drug myself into falling asleep before this whomp-whomp-whomp in my head drives me nuttier than I already am.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! I do admit I am looking forward to a bit of a sleep in tomorrow ayem and a break from busting rumors and misinformation at work. I am amazed how quickly a bit of news can get twisted up and turned around and totally changedgoing from staff member to staff member. And the things people are thinking is just AMAZING! One person actually thought that because one resident had a visitor almost 2 weeks ago who is now being tested means that everyone who has been in that resident's room is exposed and contagious. No one is looking at the fact that the resident has no symptoms, the visitor has no symptoms, and is being tested only because the visitor has COPD and doesn't meet testing criteria. And was on a plane going to and from the home state and public health is not worried about that. Nope, only reaction is "OMG when will I get sick, when will my family get sick?"Like no one is actually reading or listening to actual authorities like the CDC and are listening to horror story writers or disaster movie producers. What shames me, though, is how many staff members have become totally focused on themselves, and barely thinking about protecting our residents. And if I have to tell one more staff member that the mask needs to be up over the nose to be effective I am going to have screaming fits up and down hallway! I really feel sorry for the Administrator, Director of Nurses and Assistant Director of Nursing. The strain is starting to show on them already. What we're supposed to be doing is changing literally every hour. I know it's scary, but what is happening to common sense and all our education? And how many times does it take telling one person the same info to get them to HEAR what's said?

Sadie keeps telling me to stop and breathe, and she's listening very carefully to everything I say. God Bless Sadie!

Goldie--I can imagine the delivery people are getting tired of all the screening.I've talked with a few who have, literally, memorized the screening questions through repetition. I know it's tedious and tiresome. And I know people's nerves are getting worn thin. Sadie is my sanity right now! Thanks for the update on Sue, I've been wondering and worrying about her. She must be so happy with Sophia's arrival! Many stores here are having early hours for people over 60 or at risk and asking others to stay away at that time. Many stores have changed their hours, closing a bit earlier to have more time for restocking overnight. Another whole class of front line workers are the folks working in stores, and they are getting a lot of grief from some people.

Jazzy--I am glad you are getting job opps on the table! May the best circumstance become clear soon. Funny about the only hiring from certain areas thing changing. Makes me wonder what was behind that to begin with, if it ever actually existed.I never thought about the gun thing, being a big hunting state most households have firearms, mostly of the rifle variety but many hand guns as well, and that could become an issue. I look at those kids on spring break and wonder if they will ever make the connection between their travel, the spread of the corona virus and the illness and, in some cases, death of their grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, or even parents.Or even their peers, asyounger aged people are starting to become a larger percentage of the seriously ill. It's a self-centered time of life, I suppose. So far all my residents are ok. Sent one staff member home yesterday with respiratory symptoms. Probably not COVID-19 but we are following the guidelines, and it's as much for her protection as ours and the residents'.

Librarian--This time is being very hard on health care workers who go from place to place. I'm sure your friend is very worried, and she has every reason to be. Congrats to the sons on the new jobs, even if things aren't working out exactly as planned. Love the Kitty Coffee Shop!

    Teka--Happy Spring!

    Thanks, Celia!

Chi--Our Medical Director started using the telemedicine unit at our facility yesterday. It was a bit of circus to watch them sort out the process, but once up and running it's going to be quite efficient and very helpful.

Janky--Those spring breakers are going to be the cause of a second wave of cases when they head back to their respective homes (most won't be able to go back to their universities). With that big pool of potential victims, the virus won't take long to mutate to hit that age group really hard. That's my bet, anyway.

Chi--shaking my head. What is with people?????

Karen--Don't you just LOVE that heavy wet snow? Cement snow, great description!

    Mornin' ladies,

WOW it's like reading the newspaper from hospitals. There is so much going on who can think about all this. It's strange, I hardly ever go out but now the feeling of I should not go out is a different feeling.

Sany I can't imagine Bob going anywhere without a mask and gloves. He's really a caring Dr.. isn't he???It's wonderful to hear that but not at his own risk. It seems like u have everything under control under these cray circumstances, good too to have a Dr. in the house. Are Gordy and Leslie doing all right???

Lori I know u guys have a long haul to really get all the things u need. But do u also have a place where u can get just a few things that are important like just around the corner from you.

Jazzy I know u'll figure out the best plan for u, u always manage to and and also at this time there are offers for wanting you. I don't blame them but ull do the right thing.

Karen glad ur DH is on the mend. I know it takes a while but u being there with him has to be a good thing for him.

Hey Teka hope all is well.

I talked to my GF in CA and she too said there are only 5 people allowed in a store at a time, but the rest wait in their car so no long lines either. Then my GF called from FL an she went out for just milk and eggs an there weren't any in the store so she went home. I asked if she went to any other store and she said N O BUT I asked her if this was for ice cream would she go to another store. Of course our answer was absolutely. Why is that. This is one reason why we're BFF since 9 yrs. old.

Janky I saw some footage of spring breakers, obviously no one is taking it seriously in those age groups. But I think at that age they all think nothing will happen. Not to bright.

Kim u seem like ur in a zoo in a movieand everything is all crazy. Oh I'm sure movies are starting to be written already, but I hope things settle down quickly and have a decent ending. U r one hell of a brave person and u really keep ur patients health and emotions close to ur heart. But Sadie is right don't overdo. I'm always so glad u 2 have each other, I know how it feels. It's great to come home and always having someone who can't wait to see u. It is calming.

Lori I'm glad u spoke to Sue and happy she has a new baby to fuss over. I think of her often and always pray she's doing OK.

Anyone I miss I think of all of you a lot and hoping everyone is safe and happy.

    LUBS U ALL

I don't think I mentioned this in an earlier post, but then again, my memory is like water through a sieve. My gf who is an anesthesiologist is wearing a hazmat suit in surgery. Her specialty is cardiac surgery. Since elective surgeries are cancelled, hopefully her exposure will be limited.

    Stay safe and healthy
