Good morning to all of us lounging here on Labour Day! Welcome Purple, this is a place to unwind, vent, laugh, cry and get support too!!

NM - I agree with you on the clutter stuff - it is just like housework!! I, too, managed to get some done in my bathroom, and one of the 'spare' bedrooms - the only thing with it being spare is there is no room to spare when having company over, so it needs to be decluttered!! So much nicer all around to snuggle with each other, though the pillow sounds like a great 'clutter' creation.

teka - recline and heal that eye - I took your note as a message as we are picking apples today to make jelly with - I will be extra careful, or maybe will just supervise ;)

Purple - I am one of the beer drinkers, but I mainly go for a light beer, not too many of the craft beers appeal to me, I also enjoy wine! And you will see that some of us are non drinkers, but enjoy the camaraderie found here!

Wishing everyone a relaxing Labour Day, stay safe if you are in a hurricane path, my family in Georgia have been evacuated. Cheers!

THE GREMLINS JUST TOOK MY POST.

Teka I'm sorry about ur eye, but a recliner sounds good to me.

Welcome Purple come by often with any questions these ladies are fantastic===they explain better than a Dr. Drinking is absolutely optional but just more fun. We all wish u an easy transition with a fast healing. But we'll be here.

OK another Miss traveler Lori, wow where is all this energy coming from. U are something else. Now WTF is a party in 100 degrees with no food or drink called a party for. Its morr like let's get together , get burnt, dried out, suffer and see who lasts the longest to me. Well I know u like camping bless u so I'm sure over the next couple of weeks u'll have a good time.

Kim how many time have we told u, u are just tokind for ur own good. And she just might come up with 4 names with only her showing up. Sounds like the type. Haha I knew u'd rather sleep with Sadie no matter what kind of bed u make for her. After all u r her mommy.

Nice legs Jazzy or are we possed to look at the pool, never know around here.

Sandy that's very interesting how u left being an attorney, but I never got the idea that u didn't love it. I think I assume anyone who does anything so long loves it. I can imagine u were very good but now ur doing what u love to do and that makes it good for u.It makes u happy now.

Jazzy they guy is good looking and u must have been close to him.

Well I didn't go yesterday and I was so sad, cuz I was looking forward to it. It was just how I felt to weak and not steady at all on my feet and my trips to the bathroom knocked me out. So I knew I didn't have any energy to even get ready and slept a lot of the day. It was going to be family and all the guys from work so I missed it. And the weather was good too. I even had my outfit picked out hahaha. U know me the fashion diva from any sale I can get.

Jeez I'm taking phone calls while on here so my head is going in different directions, not so hard for me.

    after all divas stand alone.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Good morning friends and happy Labor Day. I got back from my little get away to Santa Fe and had such a good time. I really did NOT want to leave yesterday, could have used some more pool time and the rest, but alas, I need my money for lots of other medical costs coming up in the next few weeks.

The concert with Eddie Daniels was just fantastic and the cooking school is working to create this idea of the supper club that was popular at one time. They did a super job with offering champagne to start with some apps, some delicious food (fresh tomato salad, summer corn risotto and vanilla flan for me) and it just had that feeling of place I have been to before like the Blue Note in NYC and other big city jazz venues. I sat with two other single gals and we had a lot of good conversation around music in NM, one of them is a singer too. We all agreed that what we experienced was pretty special, and I was able to meet him and get a couple CDs and one signed for a very special friend's grandson. I did some videos this time (and trust me, I am lousy at it too) but got one really good one I want to post here but not able to as I don't think you can post that type of file here, but it's on FB if you go there with me.

Back home and today I am doing some of what NM has been doing with de-cluttering. Attacking the closets today for sure, some paperwork too. Hope to get to da pool later. Santa Fe was really nice and in the 80s. It was like a hot blast furnace down here in ABQ when I got out of the car yesterday. I don't remember it ever being this hot going in to Sept, so ready for cooler weather. We should be at least 10 degrees cooler by now. Not much rain around either, monsoons petered out.

Purple- welcome to our thread. The newly diagnosed experience is simply head-spinning and highly stressful. One of the hardest things to go through, but once all your tests are done, and you have your treatment plan, it helps you to wrap your head around it. It becomes more of the "I don't know what will happen to me" to the idea that you have a plan to focus on with your cancer team to get you well.

Now regarding drinking, like NM says, there is no real answer as to why anyone gets this stuff. Yes, some people have a genetic component to this disease but many of us had no family history of it, and as I have learned, there are several types of breast cancer. My sister and I whom were diagnosed months apart had completely different kinds of bc and very different treatment plans as a result. Around the time of my dx in 2012, there was that renewed report about bc and drinking having a link (and I remember very well when they first talked about this back in the 1908s with some early research around it). One of my MO's said stick to 2-3 drinks a week tops, my current one said that he does not think it really matters. So what I do is drink around outings where I want to drink socially. That is what I have settled in to. Take good care of yourself friend, we are here for you.

Cami- are you working today? Come on girl, it's Labor Day! Did Joey start back to school? But seriously, I am really sorry you were not up for the party yesterday. I know you are disappointed friend. Hugs and sending you a PM next.

Teka- how is your eye? Nothing that needs to be looked at?

NM- do you still have the dumpster? I probably ask you that all the time. Did Sadie get to swim?

Also, if you want to do training for middle of the night, does your place have access to do some on line video company? It is different than classroom training, but the hospital I work for right now does these for the rural hospitals, the locums who are only available at certain times, etc. Maybe hiring a videographer for you to teach the class and have it filmed would save anyone who can't do the classroom setting due to schedule. Just a thought?

Goldie- are you having this burning hot weather too? I hope you are feeling better and know you must be glad to be past the tests and the doc visiting recently.

Janky- Glad your family is safe. I have tons of friends in Florida and family there too and worried for them all. Sounds like they are really pushing hard on the evacuations and saw some really bad footage from the Bahamas. Freeport looks trashed.

JCS- you are SC and think I worry about you the most? You okay or on the move out of there?

Okay friends, enjoy your holiday and in to Sept we go!

OK, back home & online before we leave for the train to Ravinia for our dinner res and Steely Dan concert. The folk festival was fun--I played dulcimer for my one-song + group number "teaser" set on the main stage, and guitar for my half-hour in the afternoon (some audience members were disappointed I didn't play dulcimer for that one too, but when time is tight--especially if the act before takes too long to tear down and there's a setu-intensive act up after me--I try to keep the tuning, instrument switching, and mic-adjusting to a minimum). For a regular show, I usually plug all my instruments in so there's no readjusting of mics, but I like to keep it "organic" for short sets at folk festivals. especially on the smaller "workshop" side stages where we're closer to the audience (which is smaller).

Treated myself to a steakhouse dinner last night: 10-oz "skinny cut" prime rib (still massive--had to freeze leftovers overnight to take them home safely today). With it, I had half a glass of "Jigsaw" Wilammette Valley Pinot Noir. (9-oz. pour, which is wasted on me).

Dunno what I'll drink at the Ravinia buffet today--likely a rosé sparkler.

This morning we learned a friend--the 58-yr-old wife of one of Bob's older colleagues--died suddenly, probably of a pulmonary embolism. She had a swollen leg, and Bob kept ordering her a venous Doppler scan, but she kept putting it off because she "didn't like going to doctors." (At one point, she was his office nurse). The one intermittently puffy ankle for which I was put on Lasix has me wondering if I shouldn't ask for a venous Doppler too, since the other ankle is normal. Think I'll ask my MO when I see her Thurs. The reason I'm posting about it here is because this is a drinking thread--and she was a very heavy drinker (as is her near-octogenarian husband, whose liver is on the verge of failng). I want to spare Bob & Gordy that.

Still waiting for the hurricane. I actually think we may not even get rain. The governor did reverse the interstate today and make the coast evacuate. Seems like it is never going to get here. I do feel terrible for the Bahamas. It is a beautiful place that will have a hard time recovering from this storm.

Sounds like everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend. We are grilling hamburgers and may watch a movie on Netflix. My DH did nap, but woke up at 1:30am to see the end of the Southern 500 NASCAR race. It had a three hour rain delay.

Welcome, Purple! This is a fun group. It is a great place to learn all kinds of things as well as not concentrate too much on breast cancer. I do drink. Will enjoy a beer with dinner and maybe something later. I never smoked yet have a mets to my lung. Who knows what causes a person to have breast cancer. I am past that and concentrating on being NED for as long as I can.

    Take care all

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday, and many people's Monday. Over half and inch of rain came down through the day yesterday, pretty much washed out a lot activities, unfortunately. Sadie and I just vegged most of the day, although I did make a squash and sausage soup that was pretty good.I put intoo much salt, though, need to do something to cut that before I eat the rest of it. It is amazing how close Sadie can get to me and the stove and counter tops when I'm working with any kind of meat in the kitchen! I've learned to shuffle my feet, not pick them up, or else I'll not have a place to put the foot down without stepping on her! How 70 pounds of dog can fit into a couple inches between me and the counter is amazing. Dog really do defy the laws of physics.

Image result for dogs defying laws of physics

Janky--That pillow has been on the bedroom floor for ages, Sadie has been using it as a bed (when she isn't dumping over a basket of dirty clothes and making a nest of them). I didn't have the heart to toss it out. At least it doesn't look like clutter with the cases on it!

Cammy Cat--Sorry about the post stealing Gremlins. We need to go on a search and destroy mission and bury them in the swamp! Yes, Miss 2 ayem class may come up with 4 names and then only she shows up, but that will only happen once! I'm sorry you didn't get to the party, but gladyou are taking care of yourself and resting when you need to.

Jazzy--I'm so glad you had such a good time in Santa Fe. Sounds like you met some really great people. I do still have the dumpster. The convenience is so worth the $34 a month cost. The other day I counted dumpsters from the same company on half my road, got up to 10 in 1 1/2 miles! So very popular. Sadie and I haven't been swimming, the temps have dropped just enough to make that not feel so much like fun, but still holding it open if the temps go back up again, as they often do this time of year. The nursing home does not have a videographer, but recording classes has been discussed. I have done that when I was working at the University of Maine at Augusta, and I believe that my work laptop has video capability. We use Relias for our education tracking, and I did figure out how to download a video. Next step is to learn how to integrate PowerPoint slides into a presentation. The big drawback is the lack of direct learner feedback, and I get a lot of really important info from the participants during live classes.

Chi--welcome home! So sorry to hear about your friend's sudden death. That's always so hard for everyone to wrap their head around.

Librarian--I was just listening to the weather report, seems Dorian has stalled and is sitting on top of the Bahamas. They must be getting a horrible beating, even with the strength diminishing. Not sure what will happen when it decides to move on again.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! Seems like it came pretty quick this week, but that's the effect of the long weekend. Supposed to have some thunderstorms this afternoon, still have laundry on the line, it's getting well rinsed and extra softening! Sadie is not so crazy about the wet grass, which is funny for a dog that loves puddles and ponds! No accounting for taste, KI suppose.

Teka--BEAUTIFUL pic!Glad your eye is feeling better, too!

Welcome, beach2beach! Happy Back-to-School time! I can imagine the need for a nice adult beverage at or after work in that setting. What's your fav libation?

Oh I have scribbles on my tablet but not legible usually meaning I'm sleeping. I actually feel guilty <never did about work before> but it's Dan. The last few days I felt nothing but extreme exhaustion, I avoid my kids cuzz they always want to take me to the hospital. I know I'm a baby

Lori I saw all the canning u did a few yrs. ago wow I member u worked so hard. But ur crop didn't turn out so good this year. Maybe u could rest more this yr. U've got a lot of places to go and enjoy.

Welcome Beach I hope u come back and share what ur comfortable with. And any new recipes.Illi like to share pics. always good.

Teka another beautiful pic. I really like that color blue, hope ur eye is getting much better.

Jazzy I so enjoy how u go to a concert with a few people and end up meetin everyone on stage, those legs are working for u.

Sandy another super busy woman, it's truly something u love cuz u'd never make all this effor not to miss it. Could Bob actually semi-retire or is that not the pan. It sounds like his patients wouldn't want him to, but he seems to work so hard. Of course if he loves it then he'll just keep on going.

Kim u don't have much time left for swimming with Sadie, damn that went by so fast. But I know u always find things to do with her anyway. Jeez pretty soon u'll be putting ur winter tires on.

My niece comes over for shower day today. She is so sweet, She always stays about 2 hrs and we gossip, luv it, she's another line open for conversation , we get along so well.Plus she's so sweet.

Winning (wining) Wednesday is here! Welcome to beach and purple, you have landed in a really awesome space!

My daughter and I made crabapple jelly from my tree, and it has not set properly - kind of runny like a syrup - soooo much work so now back to square one! I will research how to reprocess it and get at it one of these days - any suggestions from you home canners out there? I am still waiting to hear from the MO office, though I know my neutrophils are 1.1, so I should be able to start my Ibrance today, wish they would call and confirm.

cami - you sound like one of my boys - when he is sleeping, he will reply to phone or people, but then has absolutely no recollection at all! kitty above looks like my content cat when I scratch between his ears.

Stay safe and dry everyone Cheers!

    Lost my whole post

grrrrrrrrrrrI told u about Leslie BFF dying the other day, she's been in hospice for a while and Les has gone to see her about 3x a week It's strange they've been friends over 30 yrs <kids> and the other day Lesl asked her if she had a taste for anthing and she said yea a malt, then she said nevermind that's way to many calories. Strange how ur mind works even at the end. Damn she was so young, It;s just so sad. F**kin' cancer, She lived a pretty clean life too so again why, no reason except she got it.

Then this morning about 6am phone rang it was Katie <Marty's cousin> the only one I really like Les took her to the hospital and she had something to do with taking out a stone in her kidney.. So Les spent the whole day and evening with her. That family always has a reason why they can't go. I wish she'd stay here a couple of days, but I'm sure she won't.

So my mind has been filled with sadness, so who else to bother but u gals, I can always cout on u.

OkI'll poop in later and see how ur all doing.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! A front came through last night and blew the humidity out to sea, and boy does the48 degree temp feel cooler than it did yesterday! Apparently Dorian is expected to head out to sea and pretty much miss the New England coast, with maybe just some gusty winds and rain showers over the weekend. The same weather change has my knees complaining a bit, and I noticed Sadie is limping a bit this ayem, too. Seems my gal is starting to feel her age a bit at times just like me. She is 10 or 11 years old now after all.But she's still getting up with the alarm and making sure I get up, she just uses that cold wet nose of her to her advantage. And she says Hi to everyone!

Cammy Cat--wow, working while sleeping, what a job! You must have done OK if everything got done, right? Do you know what is making you so tired? I think you are right, swimming time has gotten away from us here. Oh, boy, you are right, I can put the winter tires on NEXT MONTH!Wow, that snuck up on me! Love that your niece comes over and helps you and then stays to visit.

Janky--when you do reprocess the jelly, keep a couple jars of syrup, that is very useful for all kinds of thing like pancakes, flavoring cakes and cookies and such. One of the local orchards make a cinnamon apple syrup that I get every year, it is sooooo good on ice cream!

Cammy Cat--OH my, I hope Leslie got her BFF a malt anyway! It is funny how people's minds work. And I swear, we do NOT do stuff to make us get cancer, cancer attacks us following it's own rules and it's not sharing those rules with medical science or any one else. I'm glad Katie knew she could count on Les for help when she needed it.Leslie is a wonderful person!

It is raining here this morning. No wind, but gusty down on the coast. Charleston is so low it floods there during a heavy rain. The storm surge and tides will definitely cause flooding. Myrtle Beach will get some rough weather, but that is a long way from here. Should all be gone by tomorrow morning. My SIL lives on the Intercoastal waterway in NC. She looses her dock every year, but did not rebuild after last year’s hurricane.

I visited with a young woman yesterday that I used to work with. She evacuated from Charleston and we enjoyed catching up. Today I will play bridge with my “older” ladies. They are a fun group that play cutthroat cards. Then chemo on Friday.

Planning a trip with my sister. We are thinking of going to Philadelphia in November. Will do the usual touristy things, but if anyone knows any good medium priced restaurants let me know.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I will be watching college football and enjoying a few beers. 🏈🍺

Cami, I echo Jazzy in comforting Les on losing her friend. Odd about those deathbed cravings: the night before my first cousin died of MDS in July, he suddenly snapped out of his anorexia and asked for a bowl of Frosted Flakes & milk, which he polished off (after previously having had trouble swallowing pills). And the night before my friend Mary died of liver mets from laryngeal cancer (she did home hospice), she requested her boyfriend give her tastes of condiments she'd previously shunned (a good Irish gal, her idea of "spice" was salt and ketchup): Dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar, Tabasco, hoisin, and sriracha. She declared they were marvelous and wished she'd tried them earlier.

Had a great time at Ravinia. The Metra train was so crowded that the conductor never made it to our car in time to collect fares (both ways), so the round-trip ride was free. The Tree Top Buffet was marvelous--I was able to fully load my plate with stuff on my diet. (DOTD was a Banshee Pinot Noir). Opening act was a very tight funk-rock band of veterans of the 1960s-70s Chicago and national prog/jazz-rock music scene (members of The Flock, The Mauds, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Mahavishnu Orchestra) called Dinosaur Exhibit. Hard to believe they were all at least our age--and their blues-harp player (Flecktones founder and local treasure Howard Levy, a true musical polymath) sat in with Steely Dan on "Black Friday."

Steely Dan was good, but was the worse for wear without the late Walter Becker. I'd last seen them in 2002, and pretty much took him for granted because he never sang lead and wasn't a hotdogging guitarist. But his absence could be felt in the lack of a male voice in the backing vocals--the "Danettes" were excellent, but at times their harmonies overpowered Donald Fagen's under-mixed formerly "everlasting summer*" but now "fading fast*" lead vocals and buried the melody (the soprano vocalist was mixed too low relative to the powerful altos and the top notes & passing tones of chords got lost). The horns were proficient but not tight with each other (unison parts, especially on "My Old School" were unbalanced relative to studio versions and prior concerts), hooks that were originally on piano (especially on "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" were doubled on guitar, mixed louder than the keys), and iconic riffs & bass lines were also under-mixed. Fagen sounded tired, and employed erratic phrasing to cover an increasingly shrinking vocal range. A former bandmate of mine (our sax player) saw them the first night and echoed my observations. Still & all, it was a nice time and they were better than a Steely Dan cover band. And when we got back to the garage at the train station in Evanston, we found parking was free because it was a holiday.

    * for you Dan fans, "Reelin' in the Years" references (which song was the only encore but did kick major @$).

    But enough not about me.

Today was my semiannual MO visit and final Prolia shot. She did a double take when she looked at me & the computer screen and then at me again. "You've been losing weight on purpose, right?" she asked. "On your orders," I replied. She was delighted--I'm down 31 lbs. from our last visit (15 from Invisalign & then 16 from the diet). I told her about my friend, and the charley-horses I've had lately in my R shin & calf, and showed her the puffy R ankle compared to the left. She said it was most likely orthopedic (arthritis, relaxed ligaments), but agreed that due to possible cardiovascular side effects of AI treatment it would be prudent to rule out DVT (my friend's autopsy results confirmed she died of a PE). So I'm getting a venous Doppler on Monday. She also took me off calcium pending my next DEXAScan in Nov. (which my primary will have to order).

But--especially you ER+ sisters--here's what she told me about eating flax seed, soy, and turmeric (the latter whether as a spice or supplement): they're all okay! (Lavender, grapefruit & bitter orange--at least while on letrozole or antihypertensives--and valerian are still no-nos). And CBD is fine--it may have anti-tumor activity; rather than canceling out AIs it might actually assist them in killing ER+ cells.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Not much going on here today, beautiful sunrise, chilly temps, but going to warm up nicely. I took a few residents out into the Garden yesterday. That's acourtyard area with garden boxes and various plants with paved walkways that make it easy for wheelchair use. It was a great break for me from the computer and lots of fun for the residents. The goldenrod is in bloom, and that's a sure sign of fall arriving for me. Sadie's limp has gone away and she says "Hi" to everyone!

Librarian--Sounds like you won't be bothered much by the hurricane. Too bad about the SIL's dock, can see where she'd give up on replacing it after a while.

Chi--The last rally just before death is a well-known phenomenon in Hospice care. Sometimes it's clear as your experiences, sometimes it's more subtle. Good luck getting a free ride on the train due to the crowds! That must have been a very stuffed full train! Sounds like the concert may have been a bit disappointing. I suppose even stars feel the effects of aging over time. Hooray for a good appointment, too!

My Prolia shot is next Friday 🤪

    Mornin' ladies.

I'm sorry the concert wasn't all what u expected, but u did get to go and sounds like they won't be doing a lot more. Wow u've really been on top of ur diet, I think when u pass 20 or 25 lbs u really feel it and look it too. U must be at ur weight goal noood day to me.

Fagen & co. will be doing 2 nights of the entire "Aja" album at the Met in Philly in Nov. Hope they hire a tenor to supplement the Danettes--the soprano's octave melodies kept getting lost in the shuffle. (She has a lovely voice, but the two altos are soul-gospel powerhouses). I think the reason every Dan fan's favorite album of theirs is "Aja" is that it was their first album to hang together cohesively & thematically, not to mention having so many iconic singles besides the deep cuts. It wasn't till I went to a few obsessive-fan sites (I was curious about so many lyrics as well as the band's history) that I realized that up till then, their hits had been scattered across so many albums.

Not sure if I will go to Alpine Valley in Oct. to see the Who--Oct. in SE WI can be lovely, or it can be brutal. ALL the seats there are outdoors (the natural amphitheatre is actually a ski hill from Nov.-Apr.). Last time I was there was in 1997 (might've been '98), for the Tibetan Freedom Concert, and it was muddy as all get-out. After I threatened security with an ADA lawsuit (I was still using a cane after having my shattered tibia glued & screwed back together) they let me bring my folding seat-cane. Kept my butt out of the mud.

Autopsy results came back for my friend: it was indeed a pulmonary embolism. She was barely 60. (One of the reasons that the interment was family-only--as she was one of 11 kids, that's a big family--was that the family had a heavy history of depression & bipolar disorder; had her death been a suicide, she couldn't receive a funeral Mass nor be buried in consecrated ground. Now she can). Yesterday was the wake, followed by what was for all intents & purposes the funeral. Her husband is 89 and very frail. Her daughter, 32 and newly engaged (to an ex-Bear) gave a very moving eulogy (the priest, not being the family's pastor, was sort of perfunctory).

DOTD was a dry rosé from the Trentino-Alto Adige region. (I grilled a duck breast, which we had with leftover veg. from last night's chophouse dinner).

We will not be doing Thanksgiving this year: Bob wants to take a vacation that week. Bar Show rehearsals are suspended from the Sunday night before to the Sun. morning after. We were looking at the Bay Area or Seattle-Vancouver, until I saw the cover of Food & Wine featuring St. John in London--which they deemed the world's best restaurant (I've been twice, no argument there). But we realized that Bob hadn't been to London since our family trip there in 1991. We'll only have 4 full days (travel Mon. into Tues. morning and then home Sat.), but that's as much as I've had the past two Bar Assn. trips, much of which were taken up by court tours, CLE sessions & group meals. We never made it to the V&A or British Museum. nor the street market a few blocks from the Athanaeum, where I stayed in 2016 & 2017. Only hope we don't get caught up in Brexit demonstrations.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Fundy!I jumped right into the housework yesterday and never got on here to say good moringin! But, I got a lot done, even with Sadie's "help". I keep trying to explain to her the difference between a trash can and her toy box, and that stuff in the trash can is meant to go away, not get dragged out and chewed on and played with. She just doesn't seem to get it. So I need to be sure to get trash out of her reach ASAP, or I'll be picking it up again and again and again. . .

Cammy Cat--The sleeping thing sounds like it's a hassle for you. Have you changed any medications recently? Taking anything at a different time? It could be stress related, it's not like there's nothing going on with the family's health issues.I'm glad Dan and Bob can figure out what's going on. And you have a great day, too!

Chi--I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. It's good they found a medical reason for her death, that will be a comfort for the family. The trip to London sounds like a lot of fun!

Good morning friends- it is feeling a bit more like early fall now, although we had another unsufferable week of heat here with temps in the mid to upper 90s. That being said, it is going to be cooling now into the 80s which is usually what happens mid August. My gardens have taken another hit after I thought we were going there last month but now have more trashed plants, especially some mums I put in some pots. Sigh. I bought a new gardening book from the master gardeners program in the city to try to figure out how to make a few more things heat tolerant. I changed up a lot the past few years, but still find a lot of unpredictable weather makes it hard to keep things thriving in the rock garden. The back yard is doing well and lovely to enjoy this time of the year.

Yesterday, I went to play some music at this place where friends gig in the better weather months and enjoyed reconnecting with my music peeps after a bit, plus I played a bit of music too. But my greater delight was going out the back way to discover the gardens behind the place that were in amazing bloom! I was just awed by all the beauty and the butterflies too. I hope to go back again next weekend or by end of month and will bring my better camera next time. I posted some pics on the gardening thread if you want to see:

And I almost forgot to book my balloon trip with my nephew's visit in mid October. My hair stylist mentioned it this week and thought "crap, I have not done that yet" but was working on that when all the health stuff hit middle of last month. We are confirmed now and will go the final morning of balloon fiesta and on his 30th birthday. Whew.

And some great news this morning via a text. One of my cousin's from Florida just texted they are passing through town Tuesday and want to meet for dinner Tuesday night. Yay! He is one of my very favs and has a special place in my heart. He lost his wife in 2010 from bc after she fought it with everything under the sun for 17 years, but he has a new wife whom I met and so glad to see him doing well. This will be his third visit here, and just meeting up for dinner. I heard he had some major heart stuff going on this past year and is better and am sure we will talk lots about our health stuff because that is what we do here in middle age, lol.

This was the LONGEST shortest week ever at work, but I made it through. This next month will be a lot of hurdles to jump and focusing on getting some things done around home with fall cleaning and to be ready for my monthly cleaning tomorrow with the cleaning company. This coming week, I have the thyroid biopsy on Wed and then my Prolia shot on Friday, so it will be a week of needles for me. I pushed out both my annual physical and gyn trip to October as there is just too much other going on in September this year. I also met with my friend who is my helper for cataract surgery on the 19th and feeling ready to get this done.

Chi- I am sorry about your friend. I feel at this point after everything I have been through (and also with family), I take it all quite seriously that things can change so suddenly. A sudden death is never easy. I am glad you and Bob are making some nice plans to go away for Thanksgiving week. I spent Thanksgiving once in Venezuela long ago and remember going with my friends to have a vegetarian buffet that day. I love spending holidays in other countries.

Cami- your work sounds busy friend. How is Les doing since the loss of her friend. It takes a long time to grow and old friend and that kind of loss is like loosing family. Thinking of you all and also got your messages and will confirm when it's in da mail.......

NM- I always love to get cleaning in the fall because the summer heat here makes me NOT want to do much. I am shaking out rugs and doing a bunch of other stuff today and also with the idea I will have my nephew staying here in another month during his visit. Nothing like company to make you clean! I was in a couple drawers yesterday where I found a bunch of old candles and the like and think those drawers have not been cleaned out since I first filled them with the move in back in 2004. A lot of old candles went into the trash, keeping the goodies and made more room for things that need to be stored there. The purging is a never ending cycle, eh?

So Miss Sadie wants to know what is in the bags, eh? That girl is such a character.....

Goldie- are you getting cooler weather yet? How is DD doing with her recovery? Is she going back to the Caribbean eventually? Boy, that Dorian trashed the Bahamas. Are you feeling better? Did you kick that infection finally?

Teka- what is going on in north country?

Okay, gotta go. Will touch base to let you know how things this week by next weekend. May the force be with you!

Jazzy, so great that you were able to jam with your friends, and see gorgeous gardens to boot. Here, the temps dipped down near 60 overnight and we made it only to 65 today. It was gray and overcast, but didn't rain. We walked to Cellars for their Sept. "Care For Real" (neighborhood food pantry) tomato special of eggs shakshuka. (Edgewater restaurants are all adding a special tomato dish aa a fundraiser for the pantry all month). It was luscious, and I enjoyed a DOTD of a couple oz. each of cava and La Vielle Ferme Rhone red. Everything is suddenly in bloom here--my hostas and spider plants are flowering (and I saw a bumblebee on the latter afterward). Have a big pot of marigolds on the front porch. 7 tomatoes are ripe on my kitchen sill, 13 still on the vines. Going up into the 80s, even 90, for a few days this week, which may accelerate that.

Spent the weekend weeding out too-small shoes and refurbishing the ones I've collected over the years that still fit. (Most of them are some variety of orthopedic). Bought a stretcher to accommodated the bunions, new insoles for the squashed ones in my Finn Comforts, and a load of pads to shield my still-tender L toes. (My feet will always hurt, according to my podiatrist; at our age, yeah, yeah, yada yada). But I took dusty old wrecks and polished, padded, and stretched them into attractive wearability (or some semblance thereof).

At brunch today, Bob surprised me by saying how pumped he is to go to London--he spent the summer there on a study trip before proposing to me when he returned to Brooklyn. In 1991, with Gordy with us, we stayed in a weekly rental (the pre-internet precursor of AirBnB) in Brompton went only to the Museum of Science (not the V&A or British), and saw no shows. Did a full-day tour, hung out in Harrod's food halls, visited friends in Kensington, went to Hyde Park where Gordy played with Indian diplomats' kids, took the ferry across to Greenwich, and not much else. This time we'll be staying at the Athenaeum, where I stayed with the Bar Assn. We'll eat at St. John, of course, but seek out other places we couldn't afford as a young family. Maybe a show or concert or two. No touristy stuff this time. The fact that there'll be no trad. Thanksgiving dinner is sort of refreshing--small upscale restaurant portions will be a welcome respite from 1000-calorie holiday meals. Oh, and the dollar is stronger against the pound than any other time we've been to the UK.

So at his urging I went online to book the trip. I told him in no uncertain terms that there was no way I was flying regular Economy across the pond. I needed at least Premium Economy, in order to not just get some shut-eye but also room to stretch and walk about without main cabin flight attendants hassling me. (In 2012, when we went on our Budapest-Amsterdam river cruise, we changed planes at Heathrow and so all of our flights except the intra-European short hops were Premium Economy). In 2016 I flew business class and wasn't as enamored of British's as I am of Iberia's & Alitalia's--but at least I can lie flat and sleep on my side (without my snoring keeping the entire plane awake). Bob protested that all he wants to do on long flights is read. I went online to check prices and saw that on the way to London for that week, Business is $500 less than Premium Economy (in fact, cheaper than Basic Economy was two years ago); on the way back, it's the reverse (and twice as pricey--guess they're trying to soak the tourists returning to the US after T-Day). Bob conceded that the most expensive part of any vacation is the time off, and agreed reluctantly that at our age, DVT has to be avoided at all costs. So we'lll (ok, I'll) get to sleep en route to London to try & beat the jet lag, and on the way home not sleep but at least save our legs--and catnap once home, because we get some time back. He'll decompress that Sun. while I'll be in the Loop rehearsing all day.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day!Another night in the 40's, it was so nice having a warm Sadie cuddled up to my back! Lovely sunrise into a clear sky this ayem. Did some cooking over the weekend, have a couple of things in the fridge to take for lunches. Love this time of year, probably really is my favorite. Sadie still gets to lie in the sun during the day and she loves that.

Jazzy--gardening has got to be a challenge in such a variable environment. I popped over to the other thread, those pics are BEAUTIFUL! What a find! Whew, indeed, on getting the balloon festival trip settled! And a visit from a fav cousin coming up, what a good thing to be looking forward to! I hear you about short weeks feeling long. May only have 4 work days, but there is still 5 days of work to be done! The purging and decluttering does seem endless, but there is a lot of pleasure in creating open space! Sadie seems to think that anything in a bag must be a potential toy. Problem is, she can empty a bag much faster than I can fill it!

Chi--Amazing how the prices of things change over time. Glad you found a good deal for the trip. That must be a long flight, I'd want to be more comfortable, too!
