Hey My Thirsty Friends.. long time no check in! I’m doing great...1 more...just 1 more Taxol / Herceptin combo! Still have hair, shedding like a dog, but it’s there. In the back how I sleep is real thin, but gonna push through with what I got!

Hot friggen flashes from hell! Taking otc meds, but will be getting prescription on Thursday, not sure what it will be but, Dr said she’d hook me up.

Finger tips are very dry only on my dominant hand.Dry to the point they crack. Got liquid skin today for that.

Blood work still rocking, some things are low..but not drastic!

Chapped upper lip..not sure about this. Don’t drink out of can!

When I hit my 12 tx on Thursday, I’ll be on Herceptin every 3 weeks for 30 min! No pre meds no bloodwork! Oh yea, the friggen steroids and Taxol-jeans are tight! Hope when done this week, weight goes down! Between the Taxol, steroids, menopause, I’ve gained🤦♀️! Only about 10 lbs but that’s enough!

But, thank the GOOD Lord above, I am here! No matter what I look like❤️🙏💪👊!

The “flat tire” not so flat! We have put almost 500 cc in so far. Almost done. Got my implant surgery on the books for May 21st! Gonna implant the one that had the BC and lift the other!

Sitting outside with my honey enjoying adult beverages waiting for the storm to hit! In shorts!!

    Stay Thirsty My Friends! Later!

Congratulations to both of you—Gigi, for coming into the chemo homestretch, and Librarian for stomping the tumors into submission.

DOTD (at lunch) was a Hurricane. We’re heading out into the chilly rain to try to catch some of the St. Patrick’s parade in the Quarter. Dinner is at 9 on the 100 block of Bourbon St. (Redfish), so I hope we can get in there early. (Heck, I hope we can even get near the Quarter while the parade is still on. (We’re at the Hilton by the Riverwalk—normally a lovely short walk into the Quarter in good weather, but not tonight)

JCS- such great news. Even though we don't know you, we are your sisters in this fight to beat back the beast. BCO (and especially this thread) is a wonderful place for support. I don't get here as often as I used to, but keep everyone close to my heart always. You are doing great sister.

Gigi- you too, pushing through chemo and getting things planned for recon. My sister had one in recon and one lifted and was very happy with the outcome. Fingers crossed for you too.

My guess is I have shared this before, but for the newbees......

    LOL, Jazzy!

We tried to catch the French Quarter St. Patrick's parade, but it was too small and too fast—took us half an hour just to walk to the closest part of the route. It was windy & rainy, and my umbrella nearly got trashed. (And between the potholes, cobblestones and drunken tourists jostling, I nearly fell several times and did twist my L ankle three times. (Not swollen, but a nasty bruise). I felt a sharp thud on my umbrella, looked up and saw a bunch of guys on a balcony throwing beads. What hit my umbrella was a strand of big green beads—but it missed the spike and hit the pavement...wet, yucky, Lord-knows-what-besides beer & water-soaked pavement. A souvenir like that I don't need.

We got a third of the way up Bourbon and gave up. I forgot how much I hate Bourbon St. at night. Anyway, we were 90 minutes early for our dinner res, and had been heading the wrong way. So we turned around and found a little “pocket park" run by Cafe Beignet, with a jazz quartet playing standards. Most importantly, it was canopied. So we sat and listened (I had a few sips of Bob's mango daiquiri) and then hit the restaurant (Redfish Grill). Had a flute of Mumm's Napa rose while we waited, and an Oregon Pinot Gris with dinner.

Did almost 12,000 steps (it helped that I started before 6am).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Sunny here with clouds coming and going, not sure what it's supposed to do or not do today. Warmer with lots of melting going on, a good thing if messy.Mud season is not far off now. Kinda happy to see it coming, even if it does mean lots of floor washing to deal with as Sadie goes in and out! Happy to see summer coming. There's a bean suppah at one of my favorite places today, I'm looking forward to that and a visit with Mom and Dick. Bill and Gloria didn't go last week because Gloria had a cold, I'm hoping she's over it and they can come this week.

Cammy--Silly TGIF kitty! My Ides of March was pretty calm, how was yours? I can't imagine life without a furbaby. I can't imagine how much you miss yours.

Chi--Wow, what a problem with the zippers and locks! It amazes me how some people can pack for a month of travel in just a carry on or back pack. Talk about organized! A friend of my Mom's used to travel quite a bit and only used a carry on. She would go to a local thrift store and buy clothes for the stay, then leave them behind, tossing or re-donating, and only carry the clothes she was wearing and one change in her bag for emergencies. I've also heard of people shipping their clothes to their destination and then back home rather than paying luggage fees. Seems there are lots of creative ways of saving some money!

    Jazzy--happy transition weekend!Enjoy!

Librarian--WOW!!! That is a great scan report! It really does sound like you are moving toward maintenance, and that is wonderful! Happy Dancing!

Gigi--WhooHoo! Down to one treatment left, Hooray! Sorry about the hot flashes, hope the new med is helpful. And hope the fingertips don't get any worse or the hair either! 500 cc in the flat tire? It must be standing pretty well now.And surgery already scheduled!Good for you!

    Morning, Illi!

    LOL, Jazzy!

Chi--Nice number of steps you did there!

Mema--wishing you many, many more years of visits to the HTL!

Gotta have my Coffee in the ayems:

The Irish Coffee is a classic cocktail featuring coffee and Irish whiskey, and optional Irish cream. It's usually served with the Irish cream, but the version without Irish cream is surprisingly good.

    Irish Coffee

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
    • 6 ounces of hot, strong coffee
    • Whipped cream
    • Optional: 3/4 ounce Irish cream, or a teaspoon of brown sugar

    Instructions

    1. Pour the whiskey into an Irish coffee mug.
    2. Put a spoon in the mug and pour in the hot coffee - the spoon somehow magically keeps the glass from breaking due to the hot liquid (don't ask me how, just enjoy the laws of physics).
    3. If you're adding sugar, do it now and stir until it dissolves.
    4. Add the whipped cream on top.
    5. Garnish with coffee beans, coffee grinds or brown sugar sprinkles.

And for celebrating after coffee time:

My modified version of the Shamrock Juice cocktail recipe. This gorgeous green-blue drink has a fuzzy layered appearance. This drink has 4 ounces of orange juice, and that's what you'll taste the most.

    Shamrock Juice

    • 1/2 ounces gin
    • 1/2 ounces white tequila
    • 1/2 ounces light rum
    • 1/2 ounces vodka
    • 1 ounce Blue Curacao
    • 4 ounces fresh squeezed orange juice

Fill a hurricane or parfait glass with ice. Pour in the liquors and top off with the orange juice. Garnish with an orange wheel and cherries.

When DH and I went...it was off season, we ducked into a little pub...Holy Smokes the price for a beer was outRAygis and it was like 6 oz in a hi-ball glass. Needless to say, we didn't hang around much. Did have a nice dinner on the 2nd o 3rd floor of a restaurant.

Jazz - I don't remember seeing that cartoon...but that means nothing.

Gigi - good to hear from you and with such good news...Ur rocking it!!!

lubslubslubs and Irish Luck to all this weekend. We will be going to the Stateline (where dh and I used to work) for gr8 cornbeef/cabbage...Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Jazzy, I'll bet you will be glad when you can get off that "island" for good, eh? I saw where that train flipped! That's some crazy wind.

NM, I see who's sofa that is...he he! I want a bean suppah!

Cami, we don't want a realtor cuz they would cut into our profits!

Sandy, you are just the woman on the go! Sorry about the luggage and I see you have a new avatar...looks very nice! Sorry about the twisted ankle.

JCS, ohhhhh girl, I DO know how worried you were, I just did this myself. So happy for the good report.

Gigi, we are glad you are here too! And almost done with chemo...that's huge! Are you doing radiation? And remind us when you go in for your surgery when it gets closer.

Sue, again I'm so happy to see you posting again. Enjoy your Irish dinner with the hubs. I wish we could have one, but mine won't do corned beef. I made a meatball/ziti caserole yesterday, so lots of that left over.

So we ended up going today to the Irish Channel parade. The weather held up, though it was chilly & windy. Our concierge was an idiot, just like last night, when she told us it’d be less than 10 minutes’ walk to the parade route in the Quarter—this time she told us to walk “5 blocks” (ha!) to catch the St. Charles streetcar. She didn’t know it wouldn’t run on parade day. After wasting 15 minutes we hailed a cab, which took us to w/in 3 blocks of the route (we could see the barricades and the crowds). We had an hour to kill, so we took warm shelter in a little old-guy dive bar. I ordered Irish coffee—which they didn’t have because they didn’t have coffee—so I went to the luncheonette next door and got a black coffee to go. The bartender added Jameson and Bailey’s: voila—Irish coffee w/o the whipped cream. I got a shot of Tullamore Dew to go.

The parade was a hoot and a half. We were able to make our way to the railing and caught more than our share of “throws:” besides a boatload of beads (which we will hang on our arborvitae next Mardi Gras), we got a moon pie, headband, elastic bracelet, Saints mini-football, super ball (which the kitties will fight over), mini frisbee, hula hoop (which we gave to a kid because there was no way we could get it into our luggage or the overheads, much less the TSA), packets of carrots, coaster, two cabbages (!), and two full-size bars of Irish Spring soap! On our way back, we passed a homeless person who asked us if we had any food or soap. She gladly took veggies & Irish Spring, but passed on the moon pie.

Here are a couple of pics (videos wouldn’t load):

We had an early dinner at Mr. B’s Bistro—DOTE’s (Drinks of the Evening) were a flute of Roederer Estate and a 2016 Chehalem (OR) Pinot Noir

Minus2- I have not seen any forsythia blooming yet. Just the fruit trees right, saw a bunch fully out yesterday. My weeping cherry out back is also starting to bloom!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Mom and Dick made quite a stir at the Bean Suppah last night, all dressed up for St. Patty's day.

    image

Good feed, I like this Bean Suppah cuz they have mac and cheese and tuna casserole and I really like both of those, more than beans! Another sunny day starting here, lots of melting going on. I caught Sadie rolling around in a melting snowbank this morning. She came back in wet, but at least not muddy. But Muddy is coming!

Mema--looks like we bumped into the pool!Hope you find good corned beef and cabbage!

Goldie--yup, Sadie has taken over the house entirely. But she's worth it.

Chi--wow, what a parade, and what a pile of goodies you caught! What fun! I live the resourcefulness of getting a coffee next door and bringing it to the bar for doctoring up! Going to have to look up the Tullamore Dew.

DEW drop, an Irish whiskey and beer cocktail made with Tullamore DEW

    D.E.W. Drop

    50ml

    TULLAMORE D.E.W. ORIGINAL Irish Whiskey

    250ml

    IPA

In a whiskey glass, add ice and Tullamore D.E.W. Original. Pour beer into glass from bottle as desired to accentuate complementary flavours.

NM - I printed that Shamrock Juice recipe. Gonna try it at the bar later. Your mom and Dick look gr8. I have to try and find something green to wear today.

Lowwee - my hubs LOVES corn beef and cabbage. I rarely ate it until moving here and the cook at stateline did a fantastic job of preparing it, still don't care for the cabbage tho.

    Happy happy greenday all.

Hello, ladies. Just catching up on many pages of posts.

Goldie - Yeah for no organ involvement!

JCSLibrarian - Woo hoo for your good PET scan results! (Echoing Charleston as a great foodie destination. We go to Isle of Palms annually.)

Cami - Belated sympathies on the loss of your dear cousin, but as others stated, lots of laughs to be had from your memories - thanks for sharing.

Jazzy - Sorry to hear of your issues with co-workers.

Sandy - Have seen your NOLA posts on other topics, too. What fun!

Quick shout out to MemaSue, Native Mainer, Janky, Iris and whomever else not mentioned above.

Hope all are enjoying St Patricks Day. We had our annual office (non-alcoholic, of course) celebration Friday am (eggs, home fries, corned beef hash, pastries, muffins, juice, coffee, etc. on offer) plus a private performance of an excellent local (Cincinnati OH) Irish dance troupe. CFO's last name is McGraw, so we have this every year. Dancers perform in the Main Terminal of the Airport for passengers, too.

Hoping to some day celebrate St Patrick's day with an Irish Coffee at Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco, the originator (Tullamore D.E.W. only whiskey they use). Quaffed quite a few there many years ago, accompanied by a former college flame & two friends from Cleveland who moved to SF - good times!

Bye for now, everyone take care.

The dive bar we went to yesterday on St.Charles Ave. was called The Beaded Oak. The significance didn’t hit me until we took the obligatory Garden District streetcar ride today and saw all the live oak trees (they’re evergreens) draped with Mardi Gras/St. Pat’s beads. Some are strewn deliberately, some thrown from floats and overshot their eager would-be recipients’ outstretched hands, and some (especially the broken strands) are discarded, tossed up into the branches to hang like Spanish moss...on an acid trip.

Today, being the actual St. Pat’s Day, we (and half the city) sported green beads. Brunch was at Compère Lapin in the Old No. 77 Hotel (my fave of all in NOLA). Had planned on some Irish beverage, but decided on the “Bottomless Brunch Punch:” hibiscus tea, blood orange-and-rhubarb-infused syrup, and rum.

Heading to Cochon for dinner—opposite direction from the Quarter, which will host yet another parade and Amateur Drunk Fest. “Paraded-out”till at least July 4.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! Hard to believe that Spring starts later this week, still got quite a cover of snow on the ground. Melting off, but better. Sadie has found a little mud to get on her feet, not sure where, exactly, in the yard she found it, but she did! Next up will be BUG season!

Mema--I hope the Shamrock Juice was as good as you thought it would be. I like corned beef and cabbage, but not so much the cabbage as the corned beef.

    Illi--WOW, what a view!

Celia--You had a wonderful breakfast (brunch?) and the private performance must have been fantastic! Sounds like great memories of the Buena Vista Café.

Chi--love the description of the beads on the oaks! That punch sounds too yummy to pass up!

Wow Sandy, that was quite the catch of "throws"! Ole Fred looks a little tanned! Funny how you had to go get coffee to make your own Irish coffee. The punch sounds yummy, I have some hibiscus tea and really like it on ice, and pretty too.

NM, your mom and Dick are adorable! Your mom so pretty, and you look like her, and Dick so handsome. What a cute couple, dressed up or not! I like tuna, but not really a fan of tuca casserole, it's just "ok". Pretty easy to make too. Did Snookie roll around in the mud, like Sadie does?

Sue, I love both, cabbage and corned beef. But none of that here, another thing my DH won't eat...corned beef, imagine that! Did ya have some Shamrock Juice?

Ill, glad you got to enjoy that beer on the deck, 58 is not too shabby.

Hey Celia, happy to see you poop in. Been to CA several times, not a fan! But SF was fun. Also went to Alcatraz. Amazing how steep the streets are.

Did some pruning in the garden over the weekend and yesterday DH and I went out for a quad ride. Nothing eventful! Starting to get quite a few orders now, so time to get to work for the next few months.

    Morning DahhhLinks,

I can't believe I'm not hungover...had a Shamrock drink yest. Even the bartender liked it as she wrote down the recipe. Did not get any corned beef...they didn't figure more than 120 peeps...well there were 230 peeps this year. Had 2 new bartenders on duty, they started out slow but ended up faster as the crowd poured in. DH and I had never seen so many, so we were happy for the owners.

Have couple appts today and have to call for blood work orders as I have tx tomorrow. Hoping everyone has a good week...lubslubslubs

Went to Cochon last night, and it certainly has enlarged since last I was there four years ago—they expanded into the whole building and even added a loft level. Portions are still too big—dunno how I was able to finish when I dined there alone. For food details, see the “What’s for Dinner?” thread. With the appetizers, a Szigeti sparkling Gruener Veltliner:

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Tomorrow ayem I go in to work very early to meet with the night shift, so won't be on here in the ayem. Getting up at Oh Dark Hundred--4:15 to be exact. Going to be a many, many cup of coffee day tomorrow!Sadie will be so confused, poor thing. Going in later on Thursday and staying into the evening shift a bit.Now the weather guessers are talking about a Nor'Easter on Friday! Exciting week!

Goldie--it's funny, I really like Tuna Casserole, make it for myself quite regularly, but everyone else makes faces at it! Snookie was not a mud roller like Sadie.Snooks would get muddy feet, and sometimes a muddy belly after running through the mud, but didn't roll around in it.LOL at the drunk Lucky Charms Leprechaun!

Mema--Wow, what a growth factor for that bar!Good for them! Glad the tender like the recipe and the drink. And I'm glad you didn't get a hangover! Good luck with the appointments and blood work.

Chi--pretty glass of wine, hope it tasted as good as it looks in the pic!

    Mornin' Ladies,

Wow all the pics, u know I'm lovin that, it's my fun.

JC good results for u, so so happy.

Gigi last chemo- yahoo---all the protocol sounds great for u and JC. It's a good time.

Wow Sandy lots goingon, having a great time do all of this. Kind of tiring tho but that's all right. I'm keeping up.

Susie Q there was getti in our house and meatballs, no coened beef and Marty's 1/2 Irish....I guess to much Italian here...but it was his idea.He celebrated Sat. nite, he only drinks on Fri. so he did a good job.

Kim I don't think I've ever seen a pic. of just ur mom and Dick before. Super nice pic. and thanks for sharing.

Lori Alcatraz, u finally told everyone, oh wait, u just visited sorry I get confused. Oh I don't blame u for trying to sell on ur own. wishing u the best of luck u know that. Oh selling, moving super hard work.

OK Jazzy sounds like ur transition has started. And I just love how u take urself out for lunch. Ur so thoughtful to urself.

Well I almost became a rustler yesterday a kitten came into our yard, <a small hole in our fence we left some food out but never came back, probably the dog or I would have taken it. I know how horrible that sounds but I was so tempted. Tempted chit I was going to do it.

My brother is in the hospital for ??? He has had sepsis and his ankle has turned black....he's so stubborn so now we wait and see what can be done.

Celia nice seeing u poop in.

Oh I think I told u my sister had her knee done 4 weeks ago, well it's not good. She said it hurts like before and she doesn't want to go thru any more with this crap...Well her words were just so much more colorful. That could really be the reason we're so close. But she did get some good news the new meds she's on for her eyes is working even tho she'll still get the shot in every month the Drs. finally sees improvement. My dad went blind for this same thing, so she is relieved about that.

My niece came over Sunday <her son is getting married> and this wedding is so elaborate, one of those big Italian weddings that are recockulous. for the rehearsal dinner alone it's close to 100 peeps. 90% her side. Who has that many people especially when someone else is paying. Wouldn't u's think they would talk it over and compromise??? IDK maybe this is what;s done now.

Well I hope everyone's Tuesday is good and healthy and some good drinks.

    LUBS U ALL

Ah, if it’s a Tuesday afternoon in NOLA, it must be time for day-drinking. We went to Mulate’s for the last lunch of the trip. Bob started with a humongous Hurricane, but we all know what those look like by now. I started with a “French 75:” a French methode traditionelle sparkler from near Bordeaux, simple syrup, and Gentilly local gin (steeped with elderflowers):

    image

He had a couple of Voodoo dark beers and I stuck with the plain sparkler (“Faire la Fete,” which is French for “let’s have a party”). No pic necessary—just imagine that French 75 sans lemon twist. And a black coffee with chicory.

Sitting in the terminal at MSY waiting for our flight home; recockulously (thanks, Cami!) early, because we expected rush hour traffic and a hassle at the TSA because we didn’t get Pre this time—road was clear, TSA not at all crowded; at this point, we have a system for getting through the line painlessly. Didn’t even set off the scanner this time. Sharing one last order of beignets (much smaller than at Cafe du Monde, but just as hot and just as messy, with powdered sugar everywhere). Black coffee, as this little airport kiosk wasn’t set up for au lait, so what’s the point of adding sugar and creamer?

Of the three wallets I bought Bob yesterday at the Coach outlet, he made me return two—so I exchanged them for two to replace my 8-yr-old falling-apart one, plus a change purse/pass case. The larger one has 16 credit card slots, a full-zip coin purse (inside, so no change spills out), a business card pocket on the outside, and four currency compartments—it fits in the new purse I bought yesterday; the smaller one has 8 slots, a smaller change purse and one bill compartment—it and the pass-case can fit in smaller purses.

For souvenirs, I hope everyone likes pralines and beads (hehehe).

I went to see my breast surgeon today. He was thrilled with the results of the PET scan. We talked about doing a lumpectomy on what is left of the primary breast tumor. he even called the oncologist and let me listen. That doctor was not really on board with surgery. We are going to wait until the end of May. Then I will have had six cycles of Abraxane and three of Tecentriq. We will do another scan to check on progression. If there is none, the surgeon wants to do a breast MRI to target any growth there. If all is good, maybe a lumpectomy. I am not a doctor, but am willing to do the lumpectomy tomanage any growth and ease my mind.

NOLA looks like it was fun. The weather is improving in the North. My cousins are having problems in Nebraska with the flooding, but tomorrow is another day. I am finishing a bottle of wine then back on the water wagon. Chemo on Friday. The fun never ends!!!!

Dang...no wonder I was jonesing for cannolli...

Actually, it's not just Italian holidays that are food-centric. Every Jewish holiday (except the High Holy Days) can be summed up thusly:

"They tried to kill us. We won. Let's eat!"
